Summary

SUMMARY If there’s one thing Mare Barrow knows, it’s that she’s different。Mare Barrow’s blood is red - the colour of common folk - but her Silver ability, the power to control lightning, has turned her into a weapon that the royal court tries to control。 The crown calls her an impossibility, a fake, but as she makes her escape from Maven, the prince - the friend - who betrayed her, Mare uncovers something startling: she is not the only one of her kind。Pursued by Maven, now a vindictive king, Mare sets out to find and recruit other Red-and-Silver fighters to join in the struggle against her oppressors。 But Mare finds herself on a deadly path, at risk of becoming exactly the kind of monster she is trying to defeat。Will she shatter under the weight of the lives that are the cost of rebellion? Or have treachery and betrayal hardened her forever? PLOT Glass Sword picked up right where we left off in Red Queen, I actually really liked how Victoria Aveyard did that。 It also rolls into action pretty quickly as well, the first couple of chapters are mostly just confrontations which I didn't like as much, I found it a bit repetitive at times。 However, as the book progresses, it gets much better。 If I'm being honest though, the main highlight of this book was the characters。 There were some plot twists here and there which I loved (and hated) but the rest was mostly monotonous。 CHARACTERS The characters carried this book for me, (view spoiler)[ ALTHOUGH, WHAT THE HELL WAS VICTORIA AVEYARD THINKING WHEN KILLING OFF SHADE (for real this time) ?! (hide spoiler)] I began to feel even more connected with some of them。 I hope to see my love of these characters extend into the next book as, at the moment, they are the main thing that are holding my attention right now。Let's start with Mare。 I really loved her in Red Queen, she was one of my favourite heroines。 A girl, coming from nothing to everything, but she still held her morals truly。 She also had the best humour ever and was a person you could really root for。 In Glass Sword, the burden of betrayal, disappointment and grief starts to weigh down on her。 She becomes a bitter, more cold and unreasonable girl。 I also believe that the name of 'Red Queen', 'Mareena Titanos' and 'Little Lightning Girl' changes her as well, it's as if she's lived so many different lives within such a short space of time that she begins to lose her true self。 “If I am a sword, I am a sword made of glass, and I feel myself beginning to shatter。” This affects her personally, but also everyone around her。 Her relationships with everyone becomes either strained or forced, it's quite sad sometimes, just watching her push everyone she loves away。 That being one of her main inner conflicts of the book, dealing with her feelings whilst also trying to lead everyone around her。 At the ending part of the old Mare creeps through, revealing the girl I know and love。 I really hope she develops in the next book as she really deserves it after everything she's gone through。 “I fear being alone more than anything else。 So why do I do this? Why do I push away the people I love? What is so very wrong with me? I don’t know。 And I don’t know how to make it stop。”Now onto Cal。 I'm really happy with how much he features in this book, he's probably my favourite character in it。 I liked him from the start of reading Red Queen, and I might actually like him more now。 He understands Mare more than she understands herself, and once again we see him battle between the sense of honour and duty that's been drilled into him, and also how he feels and what he thinks is right。 I really hope that he helps Mare on her journey of self-discovery again, and vice versa。 They've been through everything together and I think they deserve something good。 “No matter how much I might want to feel him, I cannot。 I must keep my eyes ahead, and away from the fire of a fallen prince。 I must freeze my heart to the one person who insists on setting it ablaze。”Lastly onto Maven。 Much to my disappointment, he doesn't feature much in Glass Sword。 He reminds me so much of The Darkling。 a villain who isn't really a villain, but a victim。 Maven has been in the shadow of his brother all his life and has tried to live up to the expectations placed on him。 He's also had his wicked mother whispering her poison into his ears since he was born, causing him to be warped by her manipulation。 Even though he's killed loads of people, I can't help but love him and want to protect him。 He's just so precious and I hope that there will be some sort of redemption arc for him as he deserves it。。。“No one is born evil, just like no one is born alone。 They become that way, through choice and circumstance。” CONCLUSION I'm really excited to start King's Cage as the ending of this book was too good! I hope it improves from here plot wise as that was slightly lacking here, but overall a good read。["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]> 。。。more

It makes no sense she had the least to lose at that point in my opinion。 Why get all that way to give up? I also weirdly liked this but though because I wanted her to do it the whole time, she put so many people’s lives in danger and killed so many people that I think she needed something to bring her back to what she was。 Overall, I would obviously recommend this book along with the first one。 Favourite character: CalLeast favourite character: MareFavourite moment: When they escaped the Colonel (I think😂)Least favourite moment: Shade dying and his funeral😭 。。。more

I got bored。 I think the story suffered from the first person PoV。 It would’ve been more effective to see Mare’s reaction after the events of the first book instead of being in her head。 Her head got a little repetitive。 Also, would’ve loved to see her and Shade being super close instead of her just telling us that he’s her closest brother。 Again and again。

Again?”。 BUT, those cons are not enough to make me hate this book。 Victoria knows how to twist things around on you and oh boy she does it good, especially at the ending。 The last chapter and epilogue had me rolling! I was NOT expecting any of that and I can’t wait to see what twists and surprises are going to appear in the next bookSerious question though, can someone make this into a tv show??? 。。。more

I'm giving this book 4/5 stars, why you ask? well, I enjoyed this book。 There were a good amount of twists and turns that I wasn't really expecting。 I know that I lot of people don't like this book because it has a lack of character development in Mare。 And I agree with that in some way but, this book only spans over a few weeks。 I think it's hard to have much character development over such a short period of time, you know? I want to take a moment and talk about the epilogue here as well。 Woe, I'm giving this book 4/5 stars, why you ask? well, I enjoyed this book。 There were a good amount of twists and turns that I wasn't really expecting。 I know that I lot of people don't like this book because it has a lack of character development in Mare。 And I agree with that in some way but, this book only spans over a few weeks。 I think it's hard to have much character development over such a short period of time, you know? So this book was not as good as book 1 in my opinion。 I felt as if newbloods were being introduced to us just to fill potential plot holes。 I wanted more out of these new characters。 We know nothing about them at all。 I wanted their story!I also didn’t get the excitement I did from book one。 It was just a series of, Mare trusts someone, she loses their trust and repeat。 Even the big action scene at the end lasted all but one single chapter。 Again, all I wanted was more。 I enjoy the series, I do。 So this book was not as good as book 1 in my opinion。 I felt as if newbloods were being introduced to us just to fill potential plot holes。 I wanted more out of these new characters。 We know nothing about them at all。 I wanted their story!I also didn’t get the excitement I did from book one。 It was just a series of, Mare trusts someone, she loses their trust and repeat。 Even the big action scene at the end lasted all but one single chapter。 Again, all I wanted was more。 I enjoy the series, I do。 I think it’s a good read。 There really is though one big, shining, awkward issue here that sticks out like a sore thumb。 The main character, Mare, is just so unlikable。 She makes so many awful decisions。 And I hear you, she’s in a difficult position。 I get it。 Sure。 But what is worse for me, is that she puts her life above others。 She says it, near the start of the book that her life is more valuable than those around her。 Ouch。 She doesn’t care for the welfare or health of anyone around her, she keeps so many secrets and yet has this painstaking anger whenever anyone else lies to her。 Yes, I do see negatives in Glass Sword。 Again, as per my review of book one, we don’t see anything new here。 The echos of other dystopian YA novels are present。 But, there are positives。 I am intrigued as to where this series is going to go and I got through this book so quickly。 It is a page turner。To me, this series isn’t groundbreaking so-to-speak。 However, I am actually enjoying reading it (however harsh this review feels, it is a 4 star review) and I think Aveyard writes well。 I can tell she has a screenwriting background。 I like it。 The story is exciting, but I still find myself looking for the unexpected。 I still find myself looking for more。 。。。more
