Summary

Amazing! I loved it!Super heavy and definite trigger warnings though!

This is not really a thriller, more of a crime novel because you always know that the main character is safe so there’s less tension。 I did read it quickly, but frankly it was an unpleasant experience just reading accounts of horrific abuse。 There’s not a lot else there besides the high concept for the serial killer。

This book has stuck with me and I read it 3 years ago。。。 An incredible read I remember I could not put down。 It is very dark and twisted, but what a story! I can understand why some people would not like it, if you don't like that kind of thing (serial killer vibes, twisted dark thinking, etc。) definitely don't read this。 If you do, and you watch serial killer docs and crime shows regularly this book is TOTALLY for you。 This book has stuck with me and I read it 3 years ago。。。 An incredible read I remember I could not put down。 It is very dark and twisted, but what a story!

I used to think of myself as a tough reader, as in I don't easily get unnerved by psychological thrillers no matter how grisly the details get。 I could read most of King's novels (and Thomas Harris) without stopping to take a deep breath and attempting to regain my balance, but this novel shook me。 It was not fear that I felt, but a kind of sick thought that 'how in the hell can anyone imagine this to happen?'So this definitely isn't for the faint hearted, while the scenes aren't very explicit(s I used to think of myself as a tough reader, as in I don't easily get unnerved by psychological thrillers no matter how grisly the details get。 I could read most of King's novels (and Thomas Harris) without stopping to take a deep breath and attempting to regain my balance, but this novel shook me。 It was not fear that I felt, but a kind of sick thought that 'how in the hell can anyone imagine this to happen?'So this definitely isn't for the faint hearted, while the scenes aren't very explicit(save one where I felt I won't be reading more), the whole theme the book is set on is disturbing。 The Gardener is one sick psycho who brings girls of sixteen years of age into the Garden where he then tattoos their back with brilliant wings of different species of butterflies。 He takes care of them, feeds them and then rapes them regularly。 He has his own personal butterfly harem, you could say。 And this isn't even the scariest part of the story。 The horrors that are revealed as the story proceeds shocked me to the core and some places I wanted to shout back to the girls why doesn't anyone try harder to escape。 But yes of course I understand later when things are explained in more explicit details。But that's the kind of reaction I had while reading this book。 Also the way the story is narrated is pretty brilliant, through the voice of one of the survivors who was named as Maya by the Gardener。 She is one hell of a girl and I loved the way her story was told, in bits and parts。This book is deeply terrifying and at the same time a psychological thriller。 It may not be in par with American Psycho-level creepy(I haven't read it but my hands hover over the book with skepticism) but it definitely should come with a disclaimer。 。。。more

Great concept, just wasn't a fan of switching to present 3rd POV。 It didn't feel necessary for the perspective of the detective to be there, and the 'secret' aspect also felt unnecessary。 But overall, it was an easy, enjoyable read。 Great concept, just wasn't a fan of switching to present 3rd POV。 It didn't feel necessary for the perspective of the detective to be there, and the 'secret' aspect also felt unnecessary。 But overall, it was an easy, enjoyable read。 。。。more

A very disturbing but captivating story。 I’m used to reading this type of twisted story but still found the whole process of what the collector did (kidnapping/after death ritual) jarring to say the least。 The only negative was Maya; everything about her character annoyed me。

I like the book, I ca not say is goint to become a classic in the literature but is a good book。 I rate this book with 3 stars because I got hooked in the first half of the book, but in one point I loose interest in the story, and even that the events follows the natural course of actions around the characters it takes some time to reach the conlusion。 It was a "ok book", I can recomend it as horror book that is goint to give you some spine chilling stories with some plot twist。 I like the book, I ca not say is goint to become a classic in the literature but is a good book。 I rate this book with 3 stars because I got hooked in the first half of the book, but in one point I loose interest in the story, and even that the events follows the natural course of actions around the characters it takes some time to reach the conlusion。 It was a "ok book", I can recomend it as horror book that is goint to give you some spine chilling stories with some plot twist。 。。。more

This book disgusted me to no end。 I absolutely hated the villains in this。 They were awful, terrible people that what they did in this book is nightmarish。This was extremely well written to evoke these sort of emotions out of me。 I've never hated a fictional serial killer so much。 He was a creative and twisted type of killer。 Something I havnt seen done before so it was interesting to see the delusional world this guy created and all of his logic Olympics he did to make it seem fine。The characte This book disgusted me to no end。 I absolutely hated the villains in this。 They were awful, terrible people that what they did in this book is nightmarish。This was extremely well written to evoke these sort of emotions out of me。 I've never hated a fictional serial killer so much。 He was a creative and twisted type of killer。 Something I havnt seen done before so it was interesting to see the delusional world this guy created and all of his logic Olympics he did to make it seem fine。The characters that are actually well developed are few but for a good reason。 The main character is super well developed and is clear and identifiable。 The side characters play their role but due to the situation focus couldn't really be on them so this book stayed narrow in scope。 It mostly focused on the villains, a man and his two sons, and the girl that escaped and freed all these girls。 Not a spoiler because this book's first chapter immediately tells you the ending。The way this book is formatted, giving you the end result and working backwards was interesting。 I kind of liked it because of the absolute awfulness that happens, the books format is like A promise that they get out of it。 Otherwise I dont think I would have been able to finish it being too scared they the ending would be awful。 I really liked this detective room retelling of events as it made a horrible situation more endurable to listen to。The world building was great too。 The villain creates a really intricate delusional world that was easy to picture and very well described。Overall, this was a great book, the way its written totally gave me a good mix of being devestated and relieved that it's over。Highly recommend for anyone with a strong stomach。 。。。more

A GIRL LITERALLY HAD SHARP SCISSORS ON HER PERSON AT ALL TIMES??

The garden is a prison where a dozen girls are tattoed with buterflies on their backs, imprisoned until their 21st birthday, then killed, raped at will by the man they call “the gardener。” It’s a story told by Maya, who is tougher than all the others and who managed to not cry once。 This is a well-written story that turns off the weak of heart and stomach, it’s very dark and twisted。 There are plenty of reasons not to like this story - it’s too explicit, too vile, too disturbing, and maybe too u The garden is a prison where a dozen girls are tattoed with buterflies on their backs, imprisoned until their 21st birthday, then killed, raped at will by the man they call “the gardener。” It’s a story told by Maya, who is tougher than all the others and who managed to not cry once。 This is a well-written story that turns off the weak of heart and stomach, it’s very dark and twisted。 There are plenty of reasons not to like this story - it’s too explicit, too vile, too disturbing, and maybe too unrealistic。 Other than Maya, none of the characters are well drawn。 The ending was odd, and I’m being gentle here。 Still, I found it haunting and, though I knew what happened, I could not put it down。 。。。more

I was definitely not expecting this book to be what it was! Enjoyable is definitely not the word I would use for it, and maybe realistic isn´t either。 The stakes were a little too high and sophisticated, but the whole concept of victimized women and disturbed perpetrators was definitely there。 A+ on the writing and the pace, it was definitely gripping and i finished it in one sitting。

Scoelho

Wow! Now this is messed up。 A matured FBI agent who thinks he’s used to dealing with these sort of cases, has no idea what’s been happening in that greenhouse。 The butterflies are out, the killer, torturer and rapist in hospital and one of the victims is under interrogation。。 when you think this can’t get anymore messed up, Dot Hutchison slaps you in the face with a couple more facts。 Definitely worth the read。

Not for the faint of heart。 Overall, a great book with a stinker of an ending。 The book should have been 15 pages shorter。Although, that last bummer part won't keep you from appreciating the rest of the novel。 I can see why this book is so polarizing。For my part, I found it really interesting but I'm a sucker for f****d up stories so there's that!
