Summary

Great language, strong and lovable characters。 I love the series, and this book has been the strongest with the 944 pages of unputdownable content。

Super boring and tedious。 Couldn’t get through it。

Great book, but way too long!

The fifth entry in the Cormoran Strike series is a commitment as the audiobook version has 26 discs。 The agency takes on its first cold case when they're hired by a woman to find out what happened to her mother nearly 40 years ago。 As Robin and Strike set out on this challenge, they're also beset with other cases and personal matters。 The novel ends on a somewhat cliffhanger as Robin and Strike inch ever closer to a romantic relationship。 If you enjoy in-depth character development and intricate The fifth entry in the Cormoran Strike series is a commitment as the audiobook version has 26 discs。 The agency takes on its first cold case when they're hired by a woman to find out what happened to her mother nearly 40 years ago。 As Robin and Strike set out on this challenge, they're also beset with other cases and personal matters。 The novel ends on a somewhat cliffhanger as Robin and Strike inch ever closer to a romantic relationship。 If you enjoy in-depth character development and intricate place descriptions, this is the novel for you。 。。。more

Классический page turner, оторваться невозможно совершенно。 Несколько дней примитивного, я бы даже сказала, первобытного читательского удовольствия

A gripping and thoroughly enjoyable read, with a satisfying ending。 My favourite in the series。

This book is cut from precisely the same cloth as the other Cormoran Strike novels, and though it's every bit as good, you ultimately know exactly what you're in for。 There will be a murder。 There will be painstaking interviews going deep into every detail of the event and everyone who could possibly be connected to it in any way。There will be Tension between Strike and Robin。(view spoiler)[In the last 20 pages, Strike will meet the killer face to face and explain what happened。(hide spoiler)]I This book is cut from precisely the same cloth as the other Cormoran Strike novels, and though it's every bit as good, you ultimately know exactly what you're in for。 There will be a murder。 There will be painstaking interviews going deep into every detail of the event and everyone who could possibly be connected to it in any way。There will be Tension between Strike and Robin。(view spoiler)[In the last 20 pages, Strike will meet the killer face to face and explain what happened。(hide spoiler)]I do wish this had varied a little from the tried and true Cormoran Strike formula, and that it were just a little shorter。 At almost 1,000 pages, it is a near-Biblical tome and the story's pace is often best described as "glacial"。 This style of writing works well for actual epics, but is somewhat exasperating in a genre better known for plot twists, action, and page-turning peril。 800 pages of interviewing witnesses, smoking cigarettes, and eating crisps is just quite a lot。 (As an aside, some are accusing this book of being transphobic, but if you ask me, a woman writing under a man's name is a lot more interesting in that regard than a serial killer who occasionally cross-dresses。) 。。。more

Another very good book in the series。 Perhaps a little overlong, but I don’t know what I would cut。 Excellent storytelling and narration。

Gets a little long in the middle, but I enjoyed it。 A little graphic at times。 Excited for the next one 🤩

Janice

From reading other reviews, I think I may have spaced out while listening to the audio edition。 I look forward to each new book in the series, but felt this one was too wordy。 There was so little going on for most of the book that my focus drifted away。 My wish was to have the excruciating analysis stop and let something happen, please! I was happy with the resolution but wished it had not taken so long to get there。

A little bogged down by details at times。 Superfluous characters made it hard to start and stop but otherwise very enjoyable。

Rob Mead

As with all the Strike books, the mystery is secondary to him, Robin, and the corners of London and England they visit。 So a shame that this was utterly enjoyable until JK seemed to realise she had to solve the damn thing, creating an ending that felt rushed and contrived

This was a struggle for me。 At over 900 pages it is entirely too long with a good 20-30% that should have been edited out for just being unnecessary exposition that adds nothing to the central plot。 That being said, I only read this series for the Strike/Robin relationship and there were some really good moments during the last half of the book so it wasn't a total waste of time。 This was a struggle for me。 At over 900 pages it is entirely too long with a good 20-30% that should have been edited out for just being unnecessary exposition that adds nothing to the central plot。 That being said, I only read this series for the Strike/Robin relationship and there were some really good moments during the last half of the book so it wasn't a total waste of time。 。。。more

I am up to part 6 of 30, and have been keeping careful notes of all of the characters (I thought), yet have obviously missed a few。 I feel like I've got 100 characters so far (feels like 。。。 probably not) but lands, even taking notes, it is so confusing! I know "Robert Galbraith" likes long books, but it's just so confusing even with my notes。 Just had to vent a bit。 I do love the Cormoran Strike series -- but don't recall other books being this elaborately confusing。 Will keep at it。。。 Do LOVE I am up to part 6 of 30, and have been keeping careful notes of all of the characters (I thought), yet have obviously missed a few。 I feel like I've got 100 characters so far (feels like 。。。 probably not) but lands, even taking notes, it is so confusing! Enjoyed it immensely despite the length!

Colleen Saltmer

it's a bit drawn out。 She lets you know it's a year-long case but it could have been cut a bit shorter。 Appreciate the deep dive into Strike's relationships but not quite necessary。 it's a bit drawn out。 She lets you know it's a year-long case but it could have been cut a bit shorter。 Appreciate the deep dive into Strike's relationships but not quite necessary。 。。。more

Man ļoti patīk Kormorans un Robina。 Nu ļoti。 Tāpēc izdzīvoju visas 877 lappuses no sirds。 Varētu lasīt vēl 800。

Tad lengthy but excellent plots, I felt the Joan sub-plot was exceptionally powerful。

Karen (Living Unabridged)

Monstrously long (almost stream of consciousness at times)。 Had to skim some descriptions of crimes (torture, murder, etc。) that were too graphic for me。 Galbraith/Rowling certainly does know how to set a scene and compel you to keep reading, but the length of these is self-indulgent。Of course, she needs all those pages because there are roughly 17,000 characters (I exaggerate) and even her main character has 42 nicknames。 (Again, I exaggerate, but not by much。)

Penny

OK。 So JK Rowling has this tendency to make her books longer and longer。 This series is no exception, even under this nom de plume。I say that because I am bothered by how long this book is, and yet I also appreciate how long it is。 Acknowledging that detective work and solving mysteries takes time, energy, persistence, and luck is what I take away from the book。 And the surprise--yet completely fitting--solutions to said mysteries are so much fun。

Another great book from JKR。 Looking forward to watching it。 I did find the Charlotte storyline getting a little old, but besides that I loved it and if I hadn't heard all the controversy I wouldn't have thought about it。 My one thought on that is if you are going to boycott this book because if opinions, one your missing out on a good book but also boycott Pyscho。 I do agree in making a stand for peoples rights but I also think this cancel culture has gone beyond any real meaning as it thrown a Another great book from JKR。 Looking forward to watching it。 I did find the Charlotte storyline getting a little old, but besides that I loved it and if I hadn't heard all the controversy I wouldn't have thought about it。 My one thought on that is if you are going to boycott this book because if opinions, one your missing out on a good book but also boycott Pyscho。 I do agree in making a stand for peoples rights but I also think this cancel culture has gone beyond any real meaning as it thrown around so often。 。。。more

Great job author, I really like your writing style。 I suggest you join NovelStar’s writing competition on April。

I love the Stike series of novels - despite its length the book flies - the red herrings are given just as much attention as the main culprit , the fact that the disappearance took place 40 years prior is also an interesting way to approach it - of course the relationship between Strike and Robin also plays a significant role in the book and now I have to wait ages before book 6 comes out - what am I going to do with my time?

Christine Eskilson

I always enjoy the Strike novels even though I never figure out the convoluted resolutions and this one was no different。

Michelle Collins

Loved it - my favorite of the series so far!!

。。。more
