Summary

Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve。 Luckily she meets Tadano, a timid wallflower who decides to step out of his comfort zone in order to help her achieve her goal of making 100 friends。

Valentine’s Day is a total minefield for people with communication disorders, but this year Komi has a secret weapon to combat the stressful holiday—friends! Armed with homemade chocolates, Komi is ready to give Tadano a Valentine’s gift。 At some point! Before the day is over! She swears!

Could’ve done without that Yamai-centric chapter (my gosh, does she realize she’s technically sexually harassing Komi?!?! Like just what the heck。。。)The rest of the volume was great as usual! One docked star for that Yamai chapter。

A sweet volume as the kids get all anxious about Valentine's Day and the reciprocation of gifts on the following White Day。 The cuteness and gentle humor is marred a bit by a very fetishistic fan service chapter with a creepy, stalking classmate who just keeps getting worse and worse。 (That's her on the cover lying on the ground trying to get an up-skirt shot of Komi with her phone。 Eew。) A sweet volume as the kids get all anxious about Valentine's Day and the reciprocation of gifts on the following White Day。 The cuteness and gentle humor is marred a bit by a very fetishistic fan service chapter with a creepy, stalking classmate who just keeps getting worse and worse。 (That's her on the cover lying on the ground trying to get an up-skirt shot of Komi with her phone。 Eew。) 。。。more

So, this is an expected volume as we slow-burn our way to a possible romance (or disaster? nah。 。 ) between Komi and Tadano。 Valentine's Day/White Day。 So you might expect some actual clear romantic moves, but no, a chocolate can mean so。 many。 things, especially in ths series where so many people can't communicate。 So we get anguish instead, though Komi is actually starting to talk more, developing a few more friendships (73 to go get to 100) to help her。 Katai is an interesting character who a So, this is an expected volume as we slow-burn our way to a possible romance (or disaster? nah。 。 ) between Komi and Tadano。 Valentine's Day/White Day。 So you might expect some actual clear romantic moves, but no, a chocolate can mean so。 many。 things, especially in ths series where so many people can't communicate。 So we get anguish instead, though Komi is actually starting to talk more, developing a few more friendships (73 to go get to 100) to help her。 Katai is an interesting character who actually makes a connection with Tadano。 Yamai's continuing crush on Komi is supposed to be adorably cute, but it seems a little creepy to me。But what we all want to know: Will Komi actually be able to give her best hand-made chocolates to Tadano? We have to wait a long time to find out, but that is part of the humor and charm of the series。 And then, what does it MEAN to get these chocolates??! Oh, she just thinks of me as a friend, ha ha。 At this pace we can maybe expect one episode of hand-holding in volume 16 and a single kiss in volume 27。 。 。 。。。more

Just such an adorable series, I love the slow building romance and the awkwardness throughout, it just feels so real for the type of people they are。 The Volume contains valentines & white day, which was just so good to read, goo thing I have another volume to go straight into!!

OH, THE TENSION! "This is Valentine's Day。。。 the day when all signals get crossed!"With an expanding cast of characters, Komi's story continues to become more dynamic。 And as some relationships drift toward something deeper, the battles between social anxiety and connection continue to play out in messy and heartwarming fashion。 OH, THE TENSION! 4/5 Stars Another enjoyable installment in this series with Komi Can't Communicate, Vol。 9。 This volume focuses on the pretty typical Valentine's Day/White Day theme, but it is sweetly (and funnily) done with a lot more focus on the friendship aspect。 I do love that Komi is starting to improve and take the initiative more, it's been so much fun to see her grow! Tadano as well! I look forward to seeing what the next volume brings。 4/5 Stars Another enjoyable installment in this series with Komi Can't Communicate, Vol。 9。 This volume focuses on the pretty typical Valentine's Day/White Day theme, but it is sweetly (and funnily) done with a lot more focus on the friendship aspect。 I do love that Komi is starting to improve and take the initiative more, it's been so much fun to see her grow! Zen on every page。 The pacing is perfect, and the characters are incredibly endearing。 I need more Onigashima, and a Najimi spinoff would be welcome ;)

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Another great installment to the Komi Can’t Communicate storyline。 Obviously with Valentines Day there was going to be some miscommunications which I predicted but it was still enjoyable to read nonetheless。 I’m also warming up to Hitomi a little more with each volume and I have a special place in my heart for Katai for some reason (I couldn’t explain it )。

And sweet Komi, deliberately, removes, then puts away her notebook, and speaks (mumbles) her mind。 It's a touching scene。 Komi, it would appear, is the more aggressive of the two when it comes to being honest with her emotions。These moments of forward reflection are increasingly common。 For example, when Komi visits Onemine's home, her friend's younger siblings rather bluntly assess their shy new visitor: "You have a pretty voice。 So you should talk more。" The kids are rambunctious and annoying, but Komi senses they may have a point。 "I'll do my best," she says。KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #9 is a fun volume and excels in all the small things, which is to say, is as consistent in its delivery of awkward humor, teen angst, and hopeful romanticism as most of the series' previous volumes。 The mild heartbreak of Tadano and Komi often getting moments alone but never really taking large leaps in their relationship are expected。 Not to say quirky or uncomfortable moments don't pop up now and then。 Tadano visits Komi's house one morning and the boy sits quietly while the girl's father slowly sips a cup of tea。 Elsewhere, the three amigos -- Chiarai (pony-tail kid), Sonoda (slicked-hair kid), Shinobino (ninja kid) -- engage in a bit of hysterically wholesome fantasies about Yamai (yandere girl), Nakanaka (eye-patch girl), and Inaka (country girl), respectively, in terms how the kids dream their Valentine's Day might somehow turn out。 The boys' fantasy lasts a scant two pages, but the passage is lovely and brilliant and sadly -- all too sadly -- all in the heads of the teenage boys。 。。。more

Volume 9 contains that standard trope of school based manga, the entire Valentines-White Day arc, but this series has one of the most heartwarming and funniest depictions of it。

2020 Read #671I never find myself bored by this series, but not every chapter is a “wowzer” for me。 The chapters can be hit or miss within one volume。 Thus, by the time I finish a new installment, I can’t always be praiseworthy about the whole thing。 There were plenty of cute moments between Komi and Tadano in this volume, though!!
