Summary

The journey to 100 friends begins with a single conversation。

Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve! With the whole student body keeping their distance and Komi unable to utter a single word, friendship might be forever beyond her reach。

It’s time for the school trip to Kyoto。 Komi has never been on a school trip before, but she’s not worried。 After all, she’ll have Tadano and her friends at her side! But then she’s assigned to be buddies with two girls she doesn't even know who don’t seem very nice。 Is Kyoto ruined, or will Komi be able to make new friends all on her own?!

A kind of slow and pretty uninteresting volume compared to others, but the world being built here is nevertheless over all very worthwhile reading。 It's a world where Komi, a girl with a communication disorder, is the central character; she has a goal, supported by her shy crush, Tadano, to make 100 friends (15 is the current count, so this is going to be a long one)。 The over all point seems to be social anxiety as a cultural phenomenon, generally played for laughs, but it is nevertheless a ver A kind of slow and pretty uninteresting volume compared to others, but the world being built here is nevertheless over all very worthwhile reading。 It's a world where Komi, a girl with a communication disorder, is the central character; she has a goal, supported by her shy crush, Tadano, to make 100 friends (15 is the current count, so this is going to be a long one)。 The over all point seems to be social anxiety as a cultural phenomenon, generally played for laughs, but it is nevertheless a very real social problem。 How do you communicate if you don't use your words? The joke is that Komi can't speak to anyone yet; she is seen as the prettiest girl in the school, and is revered as a kind of aloof Queen。 Why she doesn't seem to be making any progress with communication with those she is becoming better friends with is a mystery。 It's beginning to feel like something I associate with the autistic spectrum; not necessarily, of course。 In contrast, Najimi is a kind of manic catalyst for Komi's social life, but she also seems to "like" Komi and can't tell her。 Communication issue。 Then there's Katai, also a funny kind of tough guy who seems to scare everyone, but he also has social anxiety and no one seems to know this。 He has in the past expressed his social anxiety in anti-social, thuggish behavior, apparently。 He wants to make friends, too, and is as anxious as Komi to do so, and almost as much challenged in figuring out how to do so。 Then there's new and not yet interesting characters, including Naruse the Narcissist, who has another communication problem, that he talks and doesn't listen! Oh, yeah, the volume focuses on the class trip to Kyoto, which is。 。 。 you know, a class trip, okay! Pretty standard class trip fun, but not that memorable to me。 。。。more

This manga is so pure<3 I'm so invested in Komi and Tadano's budding relationship, the amount of sweetness is sickening and I love it。 This series also consistently tackles social anxiety in such a great way, I love seeing Komi grow as a character in comparison to her past self。(view spoiler)[Komi once again talking to Tadano on the phone,,,timidly,,, so precious<3 And when she lays her head on his shoulder while she's sleeping ahhh so cute。 And how she wrote 'H' for Hitohito!! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Im enjoying reading this manga sooo much。 Komi is so endearing and I’m liking how the side characters are being incorporated into the story。 I didn’t realize it until now but I guess it’s obvious that Komi and Tadano are stuck to the hip to everyone else but themselves which is so cute! Can’t wait to grab my hands on Volume 9 and 10!!!

Volume eight exploits the well worn trope of the school trip to Kyoto。 I've been to the old capital a few times already, most notably with Kaguya-sama and Hachiman。 I bet I could be a decent tour guide for myself when I finally visit it for real。However, it's in the execution and the strength of an adorable character like Komi and her cast that made this worthwhile。 This is a series that I'll reread in the future many time, because it is fun, light, and sweet。 Volume eight exploits the well worn trope of the school trip to Kyoto。 I've been to the old capital a few times already, most notably with Kaguya-sama and Hachiman。 I bet I could be a decent tour guide for myself when I finally visit it for real。However, it's in the execution and the strength of an adorable character like Komi and her cast that made this worthwhile。 This is a series that I'll reread in the future many time, because it is fun, light, and sweet。 。。。more

A flat volume in a previously enjoyable series。 Four new characters were introduced as potential friends to the detriment of the core cast's time to interact with each other。 And the new characters were not particularly interesting: a narcissist and his sidekick who interprets his behavior; a girl who likes yo-yos and another girl without even that level of quirk。 The goal of the series is for the title character to gather 100 friends。 If this is the level of people she'll be getting, the series A flat volume in a previously enjoyable series。 Four new characters were introduced as potential friends to the detriment of the core cast's time to interact with each other。 And the new characters were not particularly interesting: a narcissist and his sidekick who interprets his behavior; a girl who likes yo-yos and another girl without even that level of quirk。 The goal of the series is for the title character to gather 100 friends。 If this is the level of people she'll be getting, the series could go downhill rapidly as she pursues the remaining 79。 Hopefully, she'll realize soon that it is the depth of the friendships that matter, not the headcount。 。。。more

The delightful confusion of a field trip permeates even the quietest of school kids, even Komi。 Front of mind, as the class makes it way to Kyoto, Komi spends hours upon hours sightseeing historical locales, gabbing with friends late into the night, and enjoying time away from home。 KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #8 is another subtle chapter。 Its peaks and valleys are so simple and casual as to be regarded as commonplace。Komi is a wee bit scared of going on a field trip due to her hyper-conscientiousnes The delightful confusion of a field trip permeates even the quietest of school kids, even Komi。 Front of mind, as the class makes it way to Kyoto, Komi spends hours upon hours sightseeing historical locales, gabbing with friends late into the night, and enjoying time away from home。 KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #8 is another subtle chapter。 Its peaks and valleys are so simple and casual as to be regarded as commonplace。Komi is a wee bit scared of going on a field trip due to her hyper-conscientiousness, but alas, Tadano assures her it'll be alright。 At one point, the boy suggests, to avoid the stress of a trip, they both skip the school whole ordeal and venture to the old capital on their own time。 It's this accidental suggestion of an almost-date that kickstarts what is probably Komi's first, actual, face-to-face conversation with another human being。 Granted, while Komi and Tadano are situated around a street corner and separated by residential masonry, the two are open and comfortable with small conversation in a way unthinkable a few volumes ago。 And yes, Komi blushes the whole time。But the trip turns out to be quite fun。 Interestingly, the manga makes a stronger and more successful push to show readers it isn't only Osana who believes Komi and Tadano should get together。 For example, Komi's peer group consists of a megane nerd girl (Mikuni Kato) and a hilariously misunderstood teen yo-yo master (Ayami Sasaki)。 One evening, Kato and Sasaki essentially kill Komi with kindness by egging her into confessing the first letter/character of the first name of her crush: H[itohito Tadano]。KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #8 doesn't prove particularly creative or insightful but it does have its moments of unbridled hilarity。 The best example is probably the showcase of unmitigated stupidity when the boys decide to strike poses, half-naked, as they exit the communal bath。 Katai, the pseudo-delinquent, and Shisuto Naruse, a wildly yet harmlessly narcissistic fool, as well as others, decide to "strike a pose in front of the skyline。" Why in the heck would a bunch of idiot boys run around without their clothes on in the name of "art"? The answer is a memorable overlapping of teenage ridiculousness and head-shaking comedy。 It's not often the boys-will-be-boys trope is played to genuine success these days, but in this volume, the author's aim is true。Regardless, another volume of sweet and comical musings is put to bed。 KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #8 incorporates the largest assemblage of the manga's cast thus far, if by grouping them together for a school trip。 Even so, it's good to see the author validating Komi and Tadano's growth by having them interact with different characters who bring out different facets of their personalities。 。。。more

Time for the students to take a school field trip! This volume is full of plenty of。。。unforgettable characters。 I also love the ending。 Komi is really growing into a character that I keep routing for to succeed。 I do wish that the more annoying and cringey characters would go away。

I really liked this volume, but I hope we get more Komi/Tadano interactions in vol 9。

*4。5 stars*So this was a reread and I adored it just like the first time I read it! I took off half a star because there was a scene with Yamai and Komi that was supposed to be funny, but it just made me uncomfortable。 In this volume we see Komi and Tadano act like a couple and they’re so cute! Also Najimi is still wild as ever。 This volume also focuses on the class going on a school field trip and it was cool to see all of them interact together。 I really love this series!

Kate

5/5starsThis volume was so freaking cute !

More of the same with Komi’s friends ranging from disturbing to quirky。 BUT Komi’s made some serious progress this volume and seems to be getting a crush on a close friend。2。5
