Summary

Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve。 Luckily she meets Tadano, a timid wallflower who decides to step out of his comfort zone in order to help her achieve her goal of making 100 friends。

Komi and her friends had an eventful culture festival, so Najimi suggests that they all go to karaoke to finish off the day with a song。 Komi loves hanging out with everyone, but the stress of worrying about singing in front of them is threatening to ruin the whole outing for her。 Can Komi find a way to overcome her fear, or will karaoke end in misery?

It's going to be tough to top this one。 So many hilarious and sweet moments in this。 Komi going shopping with her dad, doing karaoke, going to the cat cafe, and the new boy in the school whose just as socially awkward as Komi。 I loved every page of this one。 This is quickly becoming one of my favorite manga series。 It's going to be tough to top this one。 So many hilarious and sweet moments in this。 Komi going shopping with her dad, doing karaoke, going to the cat cafe, and the new boy in the school whose just as socially awkward as Komi。 I loved every page of this one。 This is quickly becoming one of my favorite manga series。 。。。more

Lovely。 I like that we're getting into more of a continuous story between Komi and Tadano。 I just wish my library had volumes 7 and 8! Lovely。 I like that we're getting into more of a continuous story between Komi and Tadano。 I just wish my library had volumes 7 and 8! 。。。more

I liked this volume more than the previous two。 So the culture festival is over, so they all go out to karaoke, perfect for someone like Komi with a communication disorder, and her wallflower friend Tadano! What can go wrong。 This volume also introduces us to a new "bad boy" character, Makoto Katai, nothing like Tadano and Komi, on the surface, but it turns out he also has social anxiety。 When the three of them are together (not) talking, it's pretty funny。 So this new situation is intriguing。An I liked this volume more than the previous two。 So the culture festival is over, so they all go out to karaoke, perfect for someone like Komi with a communication disorder, and her wallflower friend Tadano! And (communication disordered) Komi's Dad goes shopping with Komi。 Very funny。 。。。more

This volume included one of the best segments of the series so far, the Cat Cafe episode。 In addition to the usual stuff in this story, the cats and their perception of Komi's attitudes and body language was a real treat, especially in the way the "boss cat" finally reacted。 Komi wasn't acting like a regular dumb human, but instead she was acting rather catlike。That karaoke story was funny, but weird。 I got the feeling that there was more there than came across, because I'm not knowledgeable abo This volume included one of the best segments of the series so far, the Cat Cafe episode。 In addition to the usual stuff in this story, the cats and their perception of Komi's attitudes and body language was a real treat, especially in the way the "boss cat" finally reacted。 Komi wasn't acting like a regular dumb human, but instead she was acting rather catlike。That karaoke story was funny, but weird。 I got the feeling that there was more there than came across, because I'm not knowledgeable about Japanese hardcore karaoke clubs。The story of the new, tough-looking student was odd, and I think it didn't translate well as a concept。 Still, it showed several new forms of miscommunication, which was interesting。 The shopping-with-dad story was very good too, but it was the roasted potato sequence that really made me go "Awww, that's so cute。。。" 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I think I’ll really enjoy where Katai’s character development is heading。 He’s like the male delinquent version of Komi。 I think his efforts are just sooo endearing。 I’n also aware that this volume i can definitely say there are sign of a romance brewing between Komi and Tadano。 It’s so heartwarming!

Is a romance about to bloom?

Another volume without a strong central storyline--but Vol。 6 maintains great art and heartwarming, socially-awkward antics that make the series great。 Plus, a couple new characters make their appearances here, bringing with them some of the best moments of the volume。

Ugh forever cute!!!! Seriously, this series is just the cutest and gets better and better。 I don’t even know what more to say 😂Happy reading!

And that means Karaoke! Komi *wants* to participate but is utterly terrified。 She can't actually bring herself to sing, but her classmates are so overwhelmed by her beauty they imagine what her singing voice is like and swoon with delight just from her standing there with microphone in hand。This volume has some fun departures like a bunch of the guys imagining their ideal dating scenarios with the other female characters。。。but with Komi they can only imagine her in a historical samurai setting。。。they can't allow themselves to fantasize about her in the here and now。Then there's the silly game the girls come up with where you have to tell another student "I love you" without cracking up。 Whoever laughs or smiles first loses。 They all manage to lose in amusing ways, including Tadano who accidentally gets roped in and winds up with Komi as his "opponent"。 He is disqualified because of inwardly chuckling with nervousness。 Komi leaves the room blushing。。。her heart torn between being glad Tadano wasn't forced to say it and at the same time wanting desperately to hear him say it naturally。。。she's on the verge of tears。There's also some tender moments between Komi and her father who has the same communication disorder as she。 She helps him buy fashionable new clothes and with the help of Tadano's little sister is able to pick out a nice new sweater to wear。。。it's a bit pricey but Dad comes through and pays for his daughter's new clothes without hesitation。This volume is really sweet and possibly one of my favorites so far。 It's emotionally endearing and adorable and a fun, satisfying read。 。。。more

The funniest one of the series so far。 I haven't read since being unemployed and it's good to just shake it off and go to the basics。 Komi is endearing for a reason。 Rare that I legit laugh out loud with a book。 The funniest one of the series so far。 I haven't read since being unemployed and it's good to just shake it off and go to the basics。 Komi is endearing for a reason。 Rare that I legit laugh out loud with a book。 。。。more

Komi Can't Communicate, Volume 6 was another enjoyable read。 Catching up with some of our favorite characters and I did enjoy the Tadano and Komi moments! The introduction of a new "friend" Katai was okay, but not mind-blowing。 My favorite parts were when Komi and her Dad went shopping, the cat cafe, and of course the little moments Komi and Tadano had to themselves。 Komi Can't Communicate, Volume 6 was another enjoyable read。 Catching up with some of our favorite characters and I did enjoy the Tadano and Komi moments! Mea Culpa。 This reviewer made that short sighted assertion that peak Komi already occurred in a review of the previous volume。 Volume 5 contained in whole the multi-part cultural festival which was my favorite story arc。 However, the best Komi stories has always been standalone, and this volume contains a return to those roots。This volume contained a lot of firsts for Komi; karaoke with friends, the Komi fans club fantasy dates, cat cafe with Chocolate, and shopping with her communication-challe Mea Culpa。 This reviewer made that short sighted assertion that peak Komi already occurred in a review of the previous volume。 Volume 5 contained in whole the multi-part cultural festival which was my favorite story arc。 However, the best Komi stories has always been standalone, and this volume contains a return to those roots。This volume contained a lot of firsts for Komi; karaoke with friends, the Komi fans club fantasy dates, cat cafe with Chocolate, and shopping with her communication-challenged father (the Komi apple did not fall far from the tree)。 One could never go wrong with a Komi volume。 。。。more

More and more, readers are earning the privileged evidence of Komi's affection for Mr。 Average。 Not to say it was a hard won affection, or that it was ever in question, only to clarify that Komi's comfort with Tadano grows and expands as the days and weeks progress。 Interestingly, in KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #6, despite the usual nonsense that permeates high school life, Komi and Tadano find time to be together。The culture festival has mercifully concluded。 Now it's time for final exams。 Najimi eg More and more, readers are earning the privileged evidence of Komi's affection for Mr。 Average。 Not to say it was a hard won affection, or that it was ever in question, only to clarify that Komi's comfort with Tadano grows and expands as the days and weeks progress。 Interestingly, in KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #6, despite the usual nonsense that permeates high school life, Komi and Tadano find time to be together。The culture festival has mercifully concluded。 Now it's time for final exams。 Najimi eggs on her buddies to abdicate studying in favor of videogames。 The guys in class offer a hilarious handful of side stories (fantasies) about what it would be like to date their oddball coeds。 The class delinquent, Makoto Katai, finally shows up (and it turns out he has a communication disorder, too)。 Komi and her father, also of the strong and silent type, go clothes shopping (and it's not a disaster)。 And yes, there are also final exams。Komi and Tadano help each other out in this volume。 Clothes shopping, studying, going out to group karaoke -- it's becoming abundantly clear they enjoy one another's company。 In the previous volume, Onemine consciously stepped back to give the two more space。 In the current volume, their closeness appears to happen more naturally。 Although, credit should be given to Najimi for shutting up Tadano, whom at one point threatened to liken Katai's problems to Komi's。 Indeed, if someone else built for himself the capacity to understand Komi's emotional whims, that would make for some daunting competition, would it not? (As goofy and presumptuous as the male characters of this manga are, it's worth noting that through six volumes, none of the boys are violent, predatory, egotistical, or outright douchebags。)And yet, KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #6 is probably the best volume so far for one simple reason: Komi flirts。In Chapter 78 ("Winter Arrives"), halfway through the book, readers track a short, six-page episode of Komi departing for school and forgetting her gloves。 The girl reaches her destination and is greeted by Najimi courtesy of a cold hand to the back of her neck。 Komi nearly jumps out of her skin and Najimi scurries away, cackling。 Soon, Tadano arrives, cordial as always。 He retrieves his school shoes and two steps later, a pair of icy fingertips brush the back of his neck。 The boy flinches and spins toward Komi (who has conveniently spun to look elsewhere)。 Question marks dot the air around the boy, but Komi squints, blushes, and breathes into her chilly hands。 There is no dialogue in the whole chapter。Ever the delight, the manga promises more odd and heartwarming moments as winter comes into full swing。 The question remains, of course, as to which, if any of these two high schoolers will ever give voice to their budding emotions。 。。。more

I've been reading this as a daily meditation, small communications at a time。 God it's heartwarming, and as a queer adult in their 30s who never really got to have the sorts of experiences they needed in highschool, it does something special for me。 The content is still fantastic, there are new friends, new scenarios, and a black cat named Chocolat who made me cry。 I've been reading this as a daily meditation, small communications at a time。 God it's heartwarming, and as a queer adult in their 30s who never really got to have the sorts of experiences they needed in highschool, it does something special for me。 The content is still fantastic, there are new friends, new scenarios, and a black cat named Chocolat who made me cry。 。。。more

Still cute, but I do wish to see a little more Komi working on more friends。 It’s fun to see her get more social but not much progress towards the real goal。

Another entry into the series about a young lady who has a communication disorder that leaves quite anxious trying to talk to others。 In this volume, her adventures include going clothes shopping with her dad and visiting a cat cafe! Her fellow students mistake her anxious dad, who is suavely dressed in new clothes, for a mafioso and thus are quite scared。 It would have been nice to have more of Komi in the cat cafe and how it effected her anxiety。
