Summary

The journey to 100 friends begins with a single conversation。

Socially anxious high school student Shoko Komi’s greatest dream is to make some friends, but everyone at school mistakes her crippling social anxiety for cool reserve。 Luckily she meets Tadano, a timid wallflower who decides to step out of his comfort zone in order to help her achieve her goal of making 100 friends。

Komi’s friendship quest just hit its first major obstacle—the green-eyed monster! Tadano and a girl named Mine have been hanging out a lot lately, and Komi doesn’t know how to deal with her sudden flood of jealousy。 She can’t just explain what’s wrong, so she ends up spying on them from the shadows。 Will her creepy peeping lose her a chance at a new friend and push Tadano away?

This volume is mostly the school's maid cafe。 I cant help it, I still just love Komi and Tadano。 The rest are okay or sometimes annoying, but Komi is so lovely。 This volume is mostly the school's maid cafe。 I cant help it, I still just love Komi and Tadano。 The rest are okay or sometimes annoying, but Komi is so lovely。 。。。more

This one didn't grab my attention compared to the other books。 There wasn't as much advancement in the story except for the main characters being teased for being a couple which was pretty cute。 Still looking forward to reading the rest of this series。 This one didn't grab my attention compared to the other books。 There wasn't as much advancement in the story except for the main characters being teased for being a couple which was pretty cute。 Still looking forward to reading the rest of this series。 。。。more

Volume five about Komi, who has a communication disorder, and her quest to make 100 friends as she is nearly mute。 About her friendship with Tadano, her chief advocate who defends her against the charge of being aloof。 She’s neurodiverse, and we get some insights throughout about how it is she might be suffering from social anxiety。 We take a close look at that anxiety in action at the shoujo-mandatory culture festival, where Komi’s class gets to perform a (French) “maid cafe” (which is also a c Volume five about Komi, who has a communication disorder, and her quest to make 100 friends as she is nearly mute。 About her friendship with Tadano, her chief advocate who defends her against the charge of being aloof。 She’s neurodiverse, and we get some insights throughout about how it is she might be suffering from social anxiety。 We take a close look at that anxiety in action at the shoujo-mandatory culture festival, where Komi’s class gets to perform a (French) “maid cafe” (which is also a common culture-festival choice)。 Trans character Najime asks the question of the hour with a wink to readers: “Don't you want to see Komi dressed up as a maid?!” So we’re implicated in this performance as voyeurs! And then, a girl becomes obsessed about wanting to see Komi’s underpants。 Nadano dresses as a maid, too, so there are cross-dressing hijinks involving checking out Tadano’s constructed “breasts。” His classmates think that Tadano makes the cutest maid, and a new girl seems to want to befriend him, creating a little jealousy from Komi。 So, there’s discomfort for Komi, and maybe another kind of discomfort for readers? Or not, I see, as dozens of readers love this volume and see it as just light-hearted fun。 And much of it is!Not much advancement on the friends goal, and we’d like to see more of Tadano and Komi alone (as they get outed by someone for being an “item,” to their embarrassment), but there's a lot to like here in Komi and Tadano and the focus on neurodiversity。 。。。more

So cuuuute! Komi makes a wonderfully sweet maid!

Komi's quest to learn how to talk to people and to make friends continues, and this time much of the volume runs through a standard manga trope, that of a school festival, the kind where each class creates a booth or event。 Even though she has no idea what she's getting into, Komi votes for the idea of a "maid cafe," and things get very silly from that point on, especially after her male friend Tadano gets talked into dressing as a maid。 He may never live down the photos, but even Komi thought i Komi's quest to learn how to talk to people and to make friends continues, and this time much of the volume runs through a standard manga trope, that of a school festival, the kind where each class creates a booth or event。 Even though she has no idea what she's getting into, Komi votes for the idea of a "maid cafe," and things get very silly from that point on, especially after her male friend Tadano gets talked into dressing as a maid。 He may never live down the photos, but even Komi thought it was a fun event, and that he made a cuter girl than anyone would expect。The weird bit with the rice balls was interesting。 I have encountered shapes in that food, but never cubes。。。Overall, Komi continues to take small steps in talking, and one of the girls in the class has figured out that Komi has a crush on Tadano, even though no one else seems to have noticed, so in a way she communicated there, too。The series continues to be very good, both for the basic story and for the side-plots about the various ways in which people have trouble communicating accurately。 。。。more

Of course it’s no surprise that I like this volume。 I’m definitely starting to warm up to slice of life mangas BUT I have to admit something horrible! I’m getting my high school tropes confusedddd。 There’s the ramen eating scene like from Saiki K and Komi Can’t Communicate。 Then there’s the culture festival like from Saiki K, Komi can’t communicate, Toradora。。。Maybe I should step back from high school set mangas/anime’s for a while。 At least after I finish Fruits Baskets and these volumes。

Another good volume! (Although, you can really tell this is a shonen manga。。。 Yamai is a bit intense!)I think I'm going to like Onemine, too。 She seems like a nice, down-to-earth character。 Another good volume! Love this mangaAnother great addition to this series。 Always look forward to seeing what adventure awaits Komi and her small group of friends, while she continues to reach her goal of making 100 friends。

Kim

I think this series really excels when it turns away from the weirdly suggestive moments, and focuses on those quiet moments with Komi and her friends when they find new ways to strengthen their friendship。

OMG this was actually the cutest! Someone else in their world finally noticed that slow burning romance and I’m so excited!! Especially those last few instances。。。gah, I can’t wait to pick up the next volume! Happy reading!

After what felt like a dip in quality for Vol。4, Volume 5 comes roaring back with the school cultural festival and Komi being the shining star of the Maid Cafe that she tentatively votes for。 There are lots of adorkable moments for the entire cast but especially Komi and Tadano。 They have an older Senpai who is like a big sister to everyone and notices that Komi likes Tadano and lends her support to Komi。More enjoyable contrast between Komi's cartoony self-image and how achingly beautiful she ac After what felt like a dip in quality for Vol。4, Volume 5 comes roaring back with the school cultural festival and Komi being the shining star of the Maid Cafe that she tentatively votes for。 There are lots of adorkable moments for the entire cast but especially Komi and Tadano。 They have an older Senpai who is like a big sister to everyone and notices that Komi likes Tadano and lends her support to Komi。More enjoyable contrast between Komi's cartoony self-image and how achingly beautiful she actually is。 We also see yet again, Komi is capable of speaking but only with enormous effort。 She's very taciturn but only because of her social anxiety/communication disorder。 She even has a quiet moment of understanding with another communication disorder sufferer, a local restaurant owner。。。they wordlessly acknowledge each other。 。。。more

Komi Can't Communicate Volume 5 is another cute and humorous installment in the series。 This volume focuses primarily on Itan's cultural festival。 So expect common tropes (that when done right I really don't mind - for me, this was okay, it wasn't awful, but it didn't particularly move me)。 The part about Yamai's obsession with Komi's "underpants" was a little icky for me。 I do love Komi and Tadano's relationship, these precious little beans。 Komi Can't Communicate Volume 5 is another cute and humorous installment in the series。 This volume focuses primarily on Itan's cultural festival。 So expect common tropes (that when done right I really don't mind - for me, this was okay, it wasn't awful, but it didn't particularly move me)。 The part about Yamai's obsession with Komi's "underpants" was a little icky for me。 I do love Komi and Tadano's relationship, these precious little beans。 。。。more

As tradition dictates, the culture festival comes and goes with the speed and virulence of a seasonal typhoon。 However fun or peculiar Class 1-1 and its denizens may be, it's good to see this group of friends doing its best to make the most of its youth, even if that means orchestrating a racketeering effort (Najimi), establishing an undercover security force (Shinobino), or being roped into crossdressing at a cute maid café (Tadano)。 The events of the culture festival give KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICAT As tradition dictates, the culture festival comes and goes with the speed and virulence of a seasonal typhoon。 However fun or peculiar Class 1-1 and its denizens may be, it's good to see this group of friends doing its best to make the most of its youth, even if that means orchestrating a racketeering effort (Najimi), establishing an undercover security force (Shinobino), or being roped into crossdressing at a cute maid café (Tadano)。 The events of the culture festival give KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #5 leeway to expand the secondary cast by a few more characters but not to the detriment or rhythm of the manga。The class decides on a maid café for the annual school event, but not before a comical sequence of wrangling and argumentation that sees Komi attempting to make friends amid the chaos of festival prep。 On the one hand, it's the usual pattern of inconveniences galore with Komi not exactly knowing how to help out while everyone else gushes around her。 But on the other hand, readers are introduced to a new relational dynamic that could see Tadano and Komi growing closer than ever。For example, Nene Onemine, whose is designated a "big sister" type for her willingness to help anyone in a pinch, is a fearlessly social but delightfully amicable problem solver。 Onemine will run errands, delegate committee decisions, and collar slacking contributors (e。g。, Najimi)。 She's a nice person。 She's also incredibly observant。 Astonishingly, she willingly steps aside to ensure Komi has enough time and space to sidle up to Tadano for some one-on-one time。 It's a sweet and unexpected turn of events; sure, Komi has mild feelings for Tadano, but for one of her peers to support her in this effort is a delightful addition to the story。KOMI CAN'T COMMUNICATE #5 sometimes suffocates under the weight of its own quirkiness: every character is odd, every odd character has a misguided desire, and every misguided desire threatens to unravel the social contract at the slightest bout of uncertainty。 For example, the super-spacy character, Kaede Otori, is so laid-back and calm as to be utterly useless。 It's funny how close she can get to Komi without being a threat, but the character completely lacks presence。 If Otori is so ditzy as to be useless, then why does she even exist? In all, Tadano and Komi's relationship takes another, few, tentative steps forward。 The manga has toned down the awkward obsessiveness that comes from characters like Yamai and Yadano and refocused more genuinely on how Komi feels when situations spin into or against her personal needs。 Hopefully, readers will get more stories from the girl's perspective as she matures, learns more about herself and her friends, and slowly but surely learns how to have a conversation without transitioning into a shaking and rattling pile of sweat。 。。。more

A little slower than the previous volumes but still really good。 Moments of jealousy and the usual cultural festival in these types of manga which was really good, especially at the end with the dance。

I LOVED this one! It's cute as Hell, but they do some really fun gender-bending in this one, that's in such positive spirits, it absolutely warms my heart。 I love all these little people and the maid cafe was charming as fuck。 The humor is on point too, I laughed out loud more than once。 Long live Komi-san。 I LOVED this one! A borderline 2-star outing carried by the characters。 The cute, near mute Komi is precious as she becomes jealous of a classmate getting close to her crush。 Unfortunately, most of the book is given over to the cultural festival trope (we just had sports festival last volume!) with a cliched maid cafe for the class entry。 Cross-dressing must ensue。 Oh, and we have a whole chapter devoted to a classmate trying to peek at Komi's underwear。 So, y'know, ick。 A borderline 2-star outing carried by the characters。 The cute, near mute Komi is precious as she becomes jealous of a classmate getting close to her crush。 Unfortunately, most of the book is given over to the cultural festival trope (we just had sports festival last volume!) with a cliched maid cafe for the class entry。 Cross-dressing must ensue。 Oh, and we have a whole chapter devoted to a classmate trying to peek at Komi's underwear。 So, y'know, ick。 。。。more

This series is so fun to read。 As someone who suffers anxiety of trying to talk to strangers and making friends with them, this series hits close to the heart。 For those of you unfamiliar with the series, Komi can't communicate is about a socially awkward teenage girl who everyone is madly crazy for because she is cute, but what many don't know is that she is so incredibly shy, and introverted, and suffers extreme anxiety that she can barely talk to people。 She usually talks in the series by wri This series is so fun to read。 As someone who suffers anxiety of trying to talk to strangers and making friends with them, this series hits close to the heart。 For those of you unfamiliar with the series, Komi can't communicate is about a socially awkward teenage girl who everyone is madly crazy for because she is cute, but what many don't know is that she is so incredibly shy, and introverted, and suffers extreme anxiety that she can barely talk to people。 She usually talks in the series by writing things into a notebook and holding it up for others to read。During the ride, we have a sort of main male protagonist too named Tadano。 Tadano is Komi's "first" official friend。 He spends the most time trying to get to understand her, and eventually becomes her voice in a sense。 People assume Komi is a mute because she doesn't talk (much) but in this book you see her having a conversation, even though it isn't full blown paragraphs, she is able to talk。 The books just go through different, normal, teenage life situations, but then show how they get twisted around or screwed up a little because of Komi's communication disorder。 It's funny at times, touching at others, and makes you just want to hug poor Komi。 My favorite images in the books are when she is getting nervous and she has this sort of blank wide-eyed stare。 。。。more
