Summary

The Others freed the cassandra sangue to protect the blood prophets from exploitation, not realizing their actions would have dire consequences。 Now the fragile seers are in greater danger than ever before; both from their own weaknesses and from those who seek to control their divinations for wicked purposes。 In desperate need of answers, Simon Wolfgard, a shape-shifter leader among the Others, has no choice but to enlist blood prophet Meg Corbyn’s help, regardless of the risks she faces by aiding him。

Meg is still deep in the throes of her addiction to the euphoria she feels when she cuts and speaks prophecy。 She knows each slice of her blade tempts death。 But Others and humans alike need answers, and her visions may be Simon’s only hope of ending the conflict。

For the shadows of war are deepening across the Atlantik, and the prejudice of a fanatic faction is threatening to bring the battle right to Meg and Simon’s doorstep…

Simon and The Others continue navigating a peace with humans。 This book adds a bit of humor, which I hope continues in the next installment。

I still love this world, but this book has long, repetitive, tedious infodump sections where the characters were trying to figure out politics and intrigue and the future of the human race that felt like a) the author thought I wasn’t clever enough to understand what was going on and had to be hit over the head with it b) the editor was snoozing on the job that dayor c) typical book of the series where the author doesn’t quite know how to move the characters where she wants them to go, so spends I still love this world, but this book has long, repetitive, tedious infodump sections where the characters were trying to figure out politics and intrigue and the future of the human race that felt like a) the author thought I wasn’t clever enough to understand what was going on and had to be hit over the head with it b) the editor was snoozing on the job that dayor c) typical book of the series where the author doesn’t quite know how to move the characters where she wants them to go, so spends lengthy pages telling them what’s happening rather than letting them act。 Maybe part of the reason in this case is that the perspective switches every so often from one character to another, and multiple characters -humans, Others, human pack- have to all figure out the same things before coming to the same conclusions in the end。 Still makes it repetitive。 Another thing I didn’t really like from this book was that Meg’s debilitating tendency to overload came out of left field。 Of course, that moves the plot along for the rest of the cassandra sangue girls, but there were no real indications of the problem for Meg in the previous books, which just doesn’t seem realistic at all。 She shows up at the Courtyard cold and wet and hungry, talks Simon into giving her a job, shows up the next day to work and adapts really well。 All indications now with the rest of the girls are that that would be highly unlikely。 So why is Meg different? And why is she breaking down now? This is lightly explained by her reaching a plateau in her ability to absorb new things, but I wanted more of an exploration of the possibilities。 Maybe it’s because she dared to dream of more than her captivity in planning her escape and was thus better prepared for the outside world。 Maybe it’s because she took care of most of the initial overloading on the trains and buses and the rest of her journey to Lakeside and was ready for more new things upon arrival。 Maybe it’s because she had visions of her survival (at least until her vision of her death) and so knew it could be done。 To be fair, it’s mentioned that maybe she just wanted to live all she could because she thought she would die soon。 I don’t know。 But I think these ideas could have been explored really well if one of the characters were a therapist of a sort。 Theral or Eve could have been one, or Dr。 Lorenzo could have referred Meg to one。 It seems like a lost opportunity。 Things I did like: I still love how non-human the Others are。 I still love the spikes of humor throughout。 I like the glacially slow burn between Meg and Simon。 So much more relatable than instalove, especially for these characters。 I’m going to read the next one and hope for better。 。。。more

This third book in The Others series continues the story from the first two books and is just as good。 I love this series and the diversity of the characters。 Of course Meg and Simon lead the way。 Their relationship deepens as they grow closer as they try to make their world a better, safer place for all the creatures。 Their is a lot of subtext in the story which I also enjoy。 Anne Bishop has created a truly unique shifter series and I can't wait to read the next book。 Thanks again to my Goodrea This third book in The Others series continues the story from the first two books and is just as good。 I love this series and the diversity of the characters。 Of course Meg and Simon lead the way。 Their relationship deepens as they grow closer as they try to make their world a better, safer place for all the creatures。 Their is a lot of subtext in the story which I also enjoy。 Anne Bishop has created a truly unique shifter series and I can't wait to read the next book。 Thanks again to my Goodreads friend Kimberly for encouraging me to read these books! One of my favorites in this series。 We learn more about the Others and see the various levels and what they each contribute。 Even after a number of re-reads this book has some parts that make me teary。 Meg is learning more about herself and her skills and trying to help the the other girls。 The Others are dealing with the HFL people and what is being stirred up。 I loved seeing more of the Ferryman’s and seeing everyone sort of come together, even with a few setbacks。 This is a great series!

Should have mentioned this earlier but I like the world building in these books。 They have put a spin to non-human creatures I haven't seen before。 This story really accentuates the failings of human beings, how greedy and entitled one can become。 I do sympathize with the Others sense of justice。 Maybe that is one of the reason I quite like this type of books。 Characters that are more in tune with nature and the natural order of things feel more honest that most human's spin on what is just。Is i Should have mentioned this earlier but I like the world building in these books。 They have put a spin to non-human creatures I haven't seen before。 This story really accentuates the failings of human beings, how greedy and entitled one can become。 I do sympathize with the Others sense of justice。 Maybe that is one of the reason I quite like this type of books。 Characters that are more in tune with nature and the natural order of things feel more honest that most human's spin on what is just。Is it weird to not like a little kid that is just a character? I was quite annoyed by Lizzy, she was spoiled, and her dad, Monty, did not do anything about it。 That bothered me。 Although all of the humans bothered me in general, when Simon was complaining in his head that humans just kept asking for things I just couldn't agree more。 Cumbersome little creatures。 Just kept creating problems and taking space that could have been Meg and Simon's scenes。I have to admit though, as much as the story is interesting, what keeps me hooked is the hope I have for Meg and Simon。 Obviously。 And I think the author knows that that is the case for many of her readers because she just gives us enough crumbs at the end of the story to make us read the next one as soon as possible。 I swear the beeessst scene is the very last one。 So wholesome and sweet。 。。。more

The great thing about Anne is before every book in this series she has given brief description of the world , the locations and the inhabitants。 Even throughout the chapters she keeps on describing who is who and if someone new is introduced, which makes it easier for anyone to start with any book and can keep up with the story。The introductions of elders and more in depth event of HFL movement and blood prophets has been described。 Monty has also become a more prominent character even though fo The great thing about Anne is before every book in this series she has given brief description of the world , the locations and the inhabitants。 Even throughout the chapters she keeps on describing who is who and if someone new is introduced, which makes it easier for anyone to start with any book and can keep up with the story。The introductions of elders and more in depth event of HFL movement and blood prophets has been described。 Monty has also become a more prominent character even though focus is still on Simon & Meg but still no hint of romance which makes me little impatient and made me curious to start book no 4 right after finishing this one。I like the fact that if a certain event happened at certain place , Anne will describe story from view point of all the main characters present at the venue of the event but also what the other characters were feeling at the same time but on different locations。 I feel these books should have been adapted to a netflix series, the writing and the detailing is so good and captive。 。。。more

I still enjoy this series but this book felt just like more of the same from the first two。 I do enjoy the story progression but would have liked more tangible character development (and more romance!) than the constant hinting。 There's only very brief moments throughout the story where the characters truly take time to reflect on their current situation and instead of going in depth of the matter, they cut themselves off almost immediately and then move on to doing what they did before。 It's ex I still enjoy this series but this book felt just like more of the same from the first two。 I do enjoy the story progression but would have liked more tangible character development (and more romance!) than the constant hinting。 There's only very brief moments throughout the story where the characters truly take time to reflect on their current situation and instead of going in depth of the matter, they cut themselves off almost immediately and then move on to doing what they did before。 It's exhausting to keep waiting for something more to happen。The overall story is still interesting and I like the rising tensions between humans and Others, but some more action and changing stakes would have definitely helped the slow trickle-along of the plot。 Let's hope the next book picks up and this was just the mediocre mid-way point。 。。。more

I can't finish this。 I keep looking at the time left in my audible app and it's become demoralizing。 "Six hours, are you kidding me?" 3。5 Stars It was a while ago now that I read it, but I remember being rather disappointed in the last one - A Murder of Crows - so I was a little apprehensive going into this one, but determined to finish this series as that’s my first ‘reading goal’ for this year - finish some of these damn series’ that I keep starting! I needn’t have worried, as I did enjoy this。 It was fairly simplistically written but it was fun and there was excitement there。

Excellent! The world is still expanding in this 3rd installation of The Others series。 I loved learning about the other earth natives。 We are left with a cliffhanger that involves all of the humans of Thiasia。 I also loved getting a glimpse into the lives and uniqueness of the other blood prophets。

This is the case where I'm reading the series so closely one after another that the books are running together, but there is just something about this series that I can't put it down。 Everyone is dealing with the fallout of the last book。 Now that the blood prophets have been "freed" from their human controllers, and the terra indigene have taken them to safe undisclosed places, we are faced with the fact that a lot of these girls don't know how to cope with the outside world。 Something as simpl This is the case where I'm reading the series so closely one after another that the books are running together, but there is just something about this series that I can't put it down。 Everyone is dealing with the fallout of the last book。 Now that the blood prophets have been "freed" from their human controllers, and the terra indigene have taken them to safe undisclosed places, we are faced with the fact that a lot of these girls don't know how to cope with the outside world。 Something as simple as asking them for a name can overwhelm them and send them into a catatonic state。 It was slowly revealed in the book that these humans that controlled these girls deprived them of everything that could give them even a hint of happiness and pleasure, so that the only way the girls could experience anything was through cutting and prophecy。 Meg is the designated Trailblazer for how to deal with blood prophets, because she has survived outside the compound for months without breaking down。 There's a lot of following Meg around and discussion of how Meg deals with her need to cut, and what's causing her to cut, and how to prevent a cut。 While it's interesting that the book is going into the details, I feel like this part was not really planned when the author wrote the first book, because a lot of what Meg considers overwhelming now in this book had already happened in the first book。 It's like Meg had regressed, from not really have that many episodes in the first book, to being overwhelmed by almost everything new in this book。 This book had a lot more development in the rising tensions between the Others and the Humans First and Last Movement。 There're rising food shortages and the Others are being blamed by the charismatic leader of the Humans First and Last Movement。 We learn more about the Others in the Wild Country, who has no qualms about killing all of humans in Thaisia。 I loved reading about the overall world/society development, and the more complicated relationship that's forming between the Lakeside Courtyard and its human pack, and that's really what kept my interest going in this book。 As much as I just want to dive into the fourth book, I do think I need a break from the series。 I love it so I don't want to get series fatigue by reading it too fast。 。。。more
