Summary

THE SUNDAY TIMES NO 2 BESTSELLER  **  THE NEW YORK TIMES NO 1 BESTSELLER
‘More explosive, compulsive and gasp-inducingly, spine-tinglingly, mouth-dryingly, heart-poundingly thrilling than any fiction I have read for years, but it is all true’ Stephen Fry

‘Mind-blowing。。。Browder's battle for justice is at times terrifying, at times deeply touching’ Catherine Belton
A jaw-dropping exposé by Putin’s anti-corruption nemesis’ Daily Telegraph

Following his explosive international bestseller Red Notice, Bill Browder returns with another gripping thriller chronicling how he became Vladimir Putin’s number one enemy by exposing Putin’s campaign to steal and launder hundreds of billions of dollars and kill anyone who stands in his way。

When Bill Browder’s young Russian lawyer, Sergei Magnitsky, was beaten to death in a Moscow jail, Browder made it his life’s mission to go after his killers and make sure they faced justice。 The first step of that mission was to uncover who was behind the $230 million tax refund scheme that Magnitsky was killed over。 As Browder and his team tracked the money as it flowed out of Russia through the Baltics and Cyprus and on to Western Europe and the Americas, they were shocked to discovered that Vladimir Putin himself was a beneficiary of the crime。

As law enforcement agencies began freezing the money, Putin retaliated。 He and his cronies set up honey traps, hired process servers to chase Browder through cities, murdered more of his Russian allies, and enlisted some of the top lawyers and politicians in America to bring him down。 Putin will stop at nothing to protect his money。 As Freezing Order reveals, it was Browder’s campaign to expose Putin’s corruption that prompted Russia’s intervention in the 2016 US presidential election。

At once a financial caper, an international adventure and a passionate plea for justice, Freezing Order is a timely and stirring morality tale about how one man can take on one of the most ruthless villains in the world。

The sub-genre of "political intrigue" is not a part of non-fiction that I often read, and I put this book off til almost the last minute。 However, once I started the book, I couldn't put it down。 Browder is clear and concise, with a good balance of personal detail and big picture explanation。 It would have been easy--maybe even advisable--for him to strip all emotion out of the story and just give facts。 But part of the appeal of the text is that you get glimpses of his emotions and relationship The sub-genre of "political intrigue" is not a part of non-fiction that I often read, and I put this book off til almost the last minute。 However, once I started the book, I couldn't put it down。 Browder is clear and concise, with a good balance of personal detail and big picture explanation。 It would have been easy--maybe even advisable--for him to strip all emotion out of the story and just give facts。 But part of the appeal of the text is that you get glimpses of his emotions and relationships throughout--he feels like a real fallible human being。 I did get bogged down in names once in a while but for the most part this was an interesting, thought-provoking and very timely read。 。。。more

Freezing Order is an all encompassing story that breaks down the Russian money laundering scandals that involved the Author Bill Browder。 This story details how Browder quickly became Vladimir Putin’s number one target by exposing a small portion of the Russian scandals and money laundering scheme。 There are many stories and events that seem almost fictional and hard to believe that government bodies can ignore such vast amounts of evidence and put citizens in international danger。 This story ha Freezing Order is an all encompassing story that breaks down the Russian money laundering scandals that involved the Author Bill Browder。 This story details how Browder quickly became Vladimir Putin’s number one target by exposing a small portion of the Russian scandals and money laundering scheme。 There are many stories and events that seem almost fictional and hard to believe that government bodies can ignore such vast amounts of evidence and put citizens in international danger。 This story had a bunch of quality information on the Trump and Russia scandal which was an interesting addition。 Freezing Order had a bunch of times that were edge of your seat moments and stories。 There were times the book could get bogged down in legal and governmental jargon。 There also were quite a lot of names and organizations to keep straight。 Overall a very educational and thrilling story! 4 Stars! 。。。more

I really wished this had been written in a more interesting, story telling type way, instead of a boring log。 “This happened, and then this happened next, and then this happened…”etc。

DNF。 Just not in the mood for it。 Fast paced, kind of like a legal thriller。

Bill has a great way of keeping the reader enthralled throughout the journey。 Fantastic attention to detail and amazing story。

The sequel to Browder's first book (Red Notice), the continuing saga of Bill Browder trying to survive the Putin machine。 The recent arrest of the WSJ journalist in Russia makes this all too real once again。 The sequel to Browder's first book (Red Notice), the continuing saga of Bill Browder trying to survive the Putin machine。 The recent arrest of the WSJ journalist in Russia makes this all too real once again。 。。。more

I'm glad that I came across this book。 Browder's story tied together for me a number of past political events。 And talk about a rabbit hole! There is much that I want to research now based on this book。 My negative - Browder spent too much time and detail on what I thought to be irrelevant events (most notably his family vacations and his boarding school background) that he came across as a bit pretentious。 I'm glad that I came across this book。 Browder's story tied together for me a number of past political events。 And talk about a rabbit hole! FREEZING ORDER is a book everyone should read。 I cannot speak highly enough of it, and I am impressed as all get out with its author, Bill Browder。This is a continuation of Browder's description of his experiences with Russians, both good and bad, that began with his book RED NOTICE。 In FREEZING ORDER, he works to do the right thing in countries around the world as he convinces more and more of them to enact the Magnitsky Act while Russians collude with Vladimir Putin to thwart him。 Browder's ef FREEZING ORDER is a book everyone should read。 I cannot speak highly enough of it, and I am impressed as all get out with its author, Bill Browder。This is a continuation of Browder's description of his experiences with Russians, both good and bad, that began with his book RED NOTICE。 In FREEZING ORDER, he works to do the right thing in countries around the world as he convinces more and more of them to enact the Magnitsky Act while Russians collude with Vladimir Putin to thwart him。 Browder's efforts are ongoing。Here is a man I would like to meet if for no other reason than to get an update。 Therefore, I unthinkingly submitted a question about his book tour through the "Contact" page on his website。 First, the book is a year old, so any touring for it would be over by now。 Second, Browder cannot announce his tour dates and places for safety reasons。 He isn't paranoid to be afraid of Putin and friends。 They've made it clear that they want to get rid of him。 And yet Browder continues。My only criticism of FREEZING ORDER is that Browder should have included an acronym list and a list of the many names (especially Russian names) in the book along with a description of who each is。Thanks to goodreads。com for having Simon & Schuster send me this book。 。。。more

Interesting read about Russian crime and money laundering。 It’s difficult to grasp the sheer scale of some of the corruption it’s so vast。 Being a true story that book is filled with names you will most likely have difficulty remembering as well as an almost routinely circular turn of events。 Report on Russian crime, Russia trumps up charges, author goes to lawyers, very little occurs, more Russian crime is reported, more trumped up charges from the Russians, etc, etc。 it does wear thin after a Interesting read about Russian crime and money laundering。 It’s difficult to grasp the sheer scale of some of the corruption it’s so vast。 Being a true story that book is filled with names you will most likely have difficulty remembering as well as an almost routinely circular turn of events。 Report on Russian crime, Russia trumps up charges, author goes to lawyers, very little occurs, more Russian crime is reported, more trumped up charges from the Russians, etc, etc。 it does wear thin after a while。 That said, after having finished reading it, I am glad I read it since it opened my eyes to the vastness of not only Russian corruption, but also that of the rest of the world as well, it’s mildly disheartening but hopefully the Magnitsky act is actually followed through on by all of the named countries。 Also, it’s easy to forget that the author is a multimillionaire while he’s telling you the story until you remember he affords some of the best lawyers, takes his family on vacation quite a bit to Aspen, which he loves to constantly remind the reader。 Overall good book and if you are into true crime and money laundering then I would recommend it。 。。。more

Just like a spy novel, so easy and entertaining to listen to。 But it’s not a novel, all that shit’s real :) Not a lot of notes from a biography like this, but some lessons… Do not take on big players, You will most likely get assassinated and there will be no justice for You。 But on the other hand, it’s good that there are some small underdogs that do go after the big bad wolves。 Most of the underdogs die。 But some do make a change and I thank them, for I’m as stupid as to do it myself :) As for Just like a spy novel, so easy and entertaining to listen to。 But it’s not a novel, all that shit’s real :) Not a lot of notes from a biography like this, but some lessons… Do not take on big players, You will most likely get assassinated and there will be no justice for You。 But on the other hand, it’s good that there are some small underdogs that do go after the big bad wolves。 Most of the underdogs die。 But some do make a change and I thank them, for I’m as stupid as to do it myself :) As for the author, I like his creativity to solve things in a different manner。 Using the typical route would have ended up him getting killed quite some time ago。 But he turned many things to his advantage and by today he probably is as strong as superman - even Putin can not kill him。 The one man, he can’t。 So what ever You do, be creative and think of “back door” solutions。 The regular solutions are never enough。 You have to get the 100x effect somehow to achieve enormous success in what You do。 Be it business or politics, find the 100x effect。BTW as an Estonian I'm ashamed that we helped Putin to launder money more than our GPT。 Like 2013 our GPT was 23 billion and we laundered 30 billion in the same year。 Total 280 billion through the years。 Oh My God。 Never thought I'd say something as harsh but: Aivar Rehe's (the banks director) suicide now makes sense。 The change he brought into the world was so catastrophic, neutralizing the good efforts of all other Estonians。 He was one of the dudes that we have to "thank" for what Putin is doing now and what he will do in future。 。。。more

This was an excellent and insightful read into the world of money laundering and one man’s drive to impose an international banking act to stop it。 It was also an inside view of the Russian oligarch and and their perseverance to stop Bill Browder and his team from imposing the global Magnitsky Act in the anti corruption puzzle。 The book does read like a thriller。 It is impressive the efforts and risk Mr Browder undertook to lobby for congress to pass this act not to mention the legal battles tha This was an excellent and insightful read into the world of money laundering and one man’s drive to impose an international banking act to stop it。 It was also an inside view of the Russian oligarch and and their perseverance to stop Bill Browder and his team from imposing the global Magnitsky Act in the anti corruption puzzle。 The book does read like a thriller。 It is impressive the efforts and risk Mr Browder undertook to lobby for congress to pass this act not to mention the legal battles that followed to retrieve millions of dollars of stolen money。 Reading this book also provided further awareness why global leaders such as Putin would want to play a role in the outcome of elections in other major countries and is timely with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine。 。。。more

Hell of a book。 Would love to see Putin’s (and Browder’s!) balance sheet。 Can’t believe J*hn M*scow is still practicing law。 Corruption is terrorism。 May we always stand forever united against Putin and his cronies。 Browder is a wonderful writer and an inspiration。 He must have five star airline status。

Not as intersting as his first book。 A lot of filler including what he has for breakfast on a given day…

The second volume of the Magnitski sad story is as good as the first one。 It could be used as a relevant support for junior experts in AML and fraud and corruption field。 The humain perspective of the described events is very strong and inspiring。 Overall, the author provides an important dose of hope that the battle against big scale fraudster is not impossible。

Lindsay

A true ongoing story even better and more terrifying than the first book。 A story of courage to devote his life and resources to doing the right thing & justice。 One of my favorite books。

Continuing from the end of Red Notice (with some overlap), Freezing Order traces Browder’s work to expand the Magnitsky Act to other countries and other corrupt people all while his colleagues and himself are under threat from Putin and later, Trump。 The book goes to around 2017, I had been hoping it would continue to at least the start of the war in Ukraine。 I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a third book。

Renard Sessions

Met Mr Browder years ago in an MBA class, he was inspiring then and more so now。 His drive and determination for fairness is to be admired。

DNF。 I loved Red Notice and binge-read it twice and was looking forward to reading Freezing Order。 However, Freezing Order ended up being a very slow read。 I think a newspaper article describing the events in the book would have sufficed。

Listened to audiobook。 I read Bill Browser’s first book Red Notjce and was enthralled。 His story is crazy! While this book was equally fascinating, it did feel much more dry at times。 It was less of a story and more a recounting of various things that were done to him in Retaliation。 It probably could have been condensed into an epilogue and added to a reissued version of Red Notice。 If you loved Red Notice, definitely read this follow-up。 Would not read unless you’ve read Red Notice。
