Newt has been to hell and back with his friends。

The Glade。 The Maze。 The Scorch。 The inner halls of WICKED。 But now he has a burden that can't be shared with Thomas and the others—the Flare。 And Newt can't bear the thought of his friends watching him descend into madness as he succumbs to the virus。

Leaving only a note, Newt departs the Berg before the Gladers return from their mission into Denver, Colorado。 From there, he experiences the gritty nightmare of life on the streets, running from the infected and those hunting them, until he ends up in the Crank Palace, the last dumping ground of those without hope。 Although Newt thought he was running away from his friends to save them from himself, along the way he meets a young mother named Keisha and her son, Dante, who end up saving Newt in a way he could never have imagined。

Taking place during the latter events of The Death CureCrank Palace tells the story of Newt like never before, from inside his own mind, as he searches for meaning in a life gone horribly wrong。 He will try to fulfill a newfound destiny before his path leads to its inevitable conclusion—and one last meeting with his best friend。

I would recommend this book to any Newt fans or any Maze Runner fans。 。。。more

This short, 108 page novella is dedicated to giving a formal ending to Newt, one of the main characters in the Maze Runner series。 Taking place during the latter events of 'The Death Cure' (3rd book in the book series), Crank Palace tells the real, detailed story of Newt-from inside his own mind ridden by the Flare-as he searches for meaning in a life gone horribly wrong。 After leaving his friends so they wouldn't see him descend into the depths of the virus, Newt tries to fulfill a newfound des This short, 108 page novella is dedicated to giving a formal ending to Newt, one of the main characters in the Maze Runner series。 Taking place during the latter events of 'The Death Cure' (3rd book in the book series), Crank Palace tells the real, detailed story of Newt-from inside his own mind ridden by the Flare-as he searches for meaning in a life gone horribly wrong。 After leaving his friends so they wouldn't see him descend into the depths of the virus, Newt tries to fulfill a newfound destiny before his path leads to its inevitable conclusion—and one last untold meeting with his best friend。 POSSIBLE SPOILERS‼️‼️Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫/5Newt is my favorite character in the Maze Runner universe, and I was very upset and heartbroken over the ending he was given in 'The Death Cure'。 I was really looking forward to reading this novella, because of how much I love his character, and also to receive more insight on him and what really happened after he left his friends。 But I feel like the focus of this book was more on what the Flare was doing to Newt's brain, than about Newt himself。 I didn't mind this aspect of it, but honestly, I wanted some flashback scenes or memories, or just anything more。 This novella felt a little rushed, and I know it also is because it's meant to be a short book, but I wanted more content and details than what was provided。 Nevertheless, the ending of this book absolutely shocked me, and even though I had many critiques and notes on ways this novella could have been improved, it was well worth the wait and the read。 I definitely recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the Maze Runner series :) 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I am a massive maze runner fan even before there were movies made from this series。 So obviously i was stoked when this sequel came out about Newt。 And yessss i loved this book! The only thing i didnt love was that some parts felt rushed。 Like the ending for example。SPOILER ALERT:He was driving a truck and then in the next chapter we were told that tommy had put a bullet in his head。 There was no sign of Newt making it to the maze crew so it kinda came as a shock。

I haven't read Crank Palace yet, but I think it would be really cool for it to be told in Newt's perspective, as he is one of my favorite characters in Maze Runner, Scorch Trials, and Death Cure。 I think that in the movies, Thomas Brodie-Sangster plays Newt was really good, and i recommend people to watch Games of Thrones, Nanny McPhee, Love Actually, and Nowhere Boy, as he plays really well。 Like Dylan O'Brien, he plays in a load of movies。 You know what, here are some movies Dylan O'Brien play I haven't read Crank Palace yet, but I think it would be really cool for it to be told in Newt's perspective, as he is one of my favorite characters in Maze Runner, Scorch Trials, and Death Cure。 I think that in the movies, Thomas Brodie-Sangster plays Newt was really good, and i recommend people to watch Games of Thrones, Nanny McPhee, Love Actually, and Nowhere Boy, as he plays really well。 Like Dylan O'Brien, he plays in a load of movies。 You know what, here are some movies Dylan O'Brien plays in: Maze Runner, Scorch Trials, Death Cure, Teen Wolf (TV Series), The Internship, Charlie Brown, and American Assassin。 You really need to watch these movies; Thomas Brodie-Sangster and Dylan O'Brien both。 。。。more

I loved newts character so it was nice to have a novella dedicated to just his story。 But I wasn’t too bothered with it。 I thought I would enjoy it more than I did。 It was a good short read though。

I thought it was going to be more idk, intense? It was a disappointment actually。 Newt has always hace been my all time favorite character and after reading a mini story of him being the centre, I wished I had more。 It still amazes me his sympathy because he always tries to help someone and puts them before of himself。 He is the best

I am currently sobbing and I can’t stop。 I cried throughout the whole book but the last chapter really ended me。 Newt deserves so much better。 I read it in one sitting and it’s currently almost 2 am in the morning and I’m trying to stifle my sobs so I don’t wake up my parents。

3。5?look, okay, see, i have thoughts。it’s pretty clear that this isn’t a fully integrated, fleshed-out, thrilling new addition to the series, nor was it intended to be。 it’s worth considering that this novella basically only exists because Dashner wanted a book he could sell to donate the proceeds to good causes, and it was likely written according to tight time restraints to get the book out to fans while *2020* was happening and he could contribute to charities as well as give fans some TMR co 3。5?look, okay, see, i have thoughts。it’s pretty clear that this isn’t a fully integrated, fleshed-out, thrilling new addition to the series, nor was it intended to be。 it’s worth considering that this novella basically only exists because Dashner wanted a book he could sell to donate the proceeds to good causes, and it was likely written according to tight time restraints to get the book out to fans while *2020* was happening and he could contribute to charities as well as give fans some TMR content in these trying times。 the context behind this novella is different to the rest of the series, so it’s harsh to judge it as though it’s intended to be “the hot new book in the TMR series”。that being said, i think being connected to and invested in the character beforehand is the formula to enjoying this novella。 if you’re invested in Newt as a character and are happy to revisit him regardless of the plot, this book is pretty enjoyable。 he’s a fan favourite, it’s just nice to have more content of him。it’s worth remembering that Dashner was working with a canon that had a solid conclusion it had to get back to, so it makes sense that there couldn’t be many high stakes situations that relied on the reader not knowing what was going to happen next。 a remedy for that could have been introducing new characters for the reader to connect with, then putting /them/ in high stakes situations to create tension or conflict that we don’t know if it gets resolved。 it’s not entirely clear if that’s what Keisha is supposed to be, and the book doesn’t do a great job of connecting the reader to her and Dante to fully engage with their storyline。 the conflicts introduced to create the plot are mostly non-issues or are immediately resolved in the most convenient and least interesting ways possible。 there were so many roads it could have taken to add something compelling to the story but the book immediately swerves around every one of them in confusing and unexpected ways。 not like fun, plot twist unexpected either, more like every time it’s headed somewhere good, it gets yanked away to something that’s a little jarring and not as fun to read。 i get the sense that Dashner also wanted more from this but didn’t have the time to explore any of them properly so settled for only hinting at good plot beats。 the timeline and pacing are off-kilter too; suddenly whole days have passed and we’ve missed an entire crank riot? something that would have been one of the most interesting moments of the book? we just。。。 missed it? it felt like a massive chunk got scrapped and then nobody edited it to give context for the things we missed。 the conflicts are wrapped up so neatly with mostly zero progression of the plot or intervention from the characters; conclusions so tidy it almost comes off sickly sweet。 recognising the novella as being written in 2020 /for/ 2020, specifically an audience living through a global pandemic, i can’t really critique it for getting a bit escapist at times, but it shifts the tone and is a bit clunky with its explanations。considering this is a novella about a fan favourite character with a mysterious past, living in a complex dystopian future, dealing with the mortality of his own sanity, i feel like the potential here was enormous。 i wouldn’t say i’m disappointed, i just know it could have been better than it was。 with more time and a different intention, this could have been really good, but that’s essentially asking for a different book, and as a fan of the series with an emotional connection to the character, i’m quite happy to excuse some of the weak points to just be glad we got a Newt Book。one thing i’m less willing to excuse with my bias for any characters is that James Dashner didn’t take the opportunity to officialise Newt’s sexuality in the written canon。 i know it’s dystopian fiction, romance/romantic interest isn’t the focus, but it feels like a shame to announce that Newt’s gay before writing a whole novella about him and then not even hinting at it in the work itself。 it could literally be a throwaway line that holds no bearing on the plot or character dynamics, i’d even take a cheesy “you’re not my type” to a female character, just something to indicate his queerness。 if you by chance haven’t seen like three specific tweets from a specific authors twitter, you’d have no idea he was gay and personal bias would fill in the blanks, which almost always defaults to straight and erases a character’s queerness entirely。 especially if there’s nothing to indicate otherwise。 honestly, Thomas’s obsession with Minho’s biceps in TMR is gayer than anything the /canon gay character/ does in this novella。 there are a few questionable throwaway references to Newtmas but a few “and Tommy。。。 [contemplative ellipses]”s isn’t exactly mlm rep and comes off kind of queer-bait-y when that’s the only indication he has deep feelings for a same sex character, especially when it’s left ambiguous whether or not those deep feelings are romantic or platonic。 ~is Newt gay for Thomas or does he just like him as a friend? if Newt’s gay for Thomas that means he definitely IS gay canonically but if it’s platonic love, and Thomas is the only same-sex person Newt seems to feel that deeply for, with no indication of him being queer otherwise, then the bias shifts to him not being gay。~ it’s not representation if the audience can read the entire series and have no idea that a character is queer, and this was a prime opportunity to shift Newt being gay from an offhand retrospective character decision (“he’s gay。 the trilogy’s over so it’s not in the books but he is gay i promise”) to genuine narrative representation。TL;DR: release the crank riot edition, james。 and let newt kiss one of them in a gay way 。。。more
