Summary

For cynical twenty-three-year-old August, moving to New York City is supposed to prove her right: that things like magic and cinematic love stories don't exist, and the only smart way to go through life is alone。 She can't imagine how waiting tables at a 24-hour pancake diner and moving in with too many weird roommates could possibly change that。 And there's certainly no chance of her subway commute being anything more than a daily trudge through boredom and electrical failures。

But then, there's this gorgeous girl on the train。

Jane。 Dazzling, charming, mysterious, impossible Jane。 Jane with her rough edges and swoopy hair and soft smile, showing up in a leather jacket to save August's day when she needed it most。 August's subway crush becomes the best part of her day, but pretty soon, she discovers there's one big problem: Jane doesn't just look like an old school punk rocker。 She's literally displaced in time from the 1970s, and August is going to have to use everything she tried to leave in her own past to help her。 Maybe it's time to start believing in some things, after all。

Thanks to St Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review。 I absolutely loved this quirky cast of misfits who come together as friends turned family。 Taking place in modern day New York City, there are elements of fantasy mixed in with this LGBTQ romance。 I loved this every bit as much as Red, White and Royal Blue by the same author!

This is it; it’s the queer romcom we’ve been waiting for and the queer romcom we deserve。 Not only are the romantic leads beautifully developed, but there is a whole cast of queer characters who you will definitely be glad to get to know。 Reading this novel was emotionally fulfilling and validating, as a new adult and a bisexual woman who didn’t come out to myself until last year。 I love this book。I received an eARC from NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press in exchange for an honest review。

This book had my bisexuality RAGING。 Like, throwing oil onto a fire, RAGING。 All of the characters? I’ll take two, please! I haven’t ever been to New York, and every time I read about it, I just can’t help but wonder about the supposed magic of it。 One Last Stop is a book that showcases the good, the bad, and the subway grime of New York that is so terrible but also, full of opportunity。 When August meets her roommates, Nico, Myla, and Wes, I immediately felt kinship with these characters。 They have a beautiful friendship full of weird happenings and support, and I love a good story filled with hilarious, easygoing friends, and sweet side romances。 I also enjoyed all of the other characters in this, especially Jane。 She is a fantastic, beautiful love interest and the sci-fi twist surprised me, but I thought it was integrated so well that even though I knew this was totally strange and weird, August and her friends really made it just seem like another New York possibility。 This book is unapologetically queer, featuring a cast of LGBTQ+ characters。 My bi heart is exploding with how much love I have for the dedication to representation, and humour。 One Last Stop is full of pop culture, but also some great one-liners and interactions that left me giggling out loud。 It was realistic at times despite the plot, and overall, just such a fun time!!! Pick this up if you want to feel warm。 Thank you to NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press for the ARC! 。。。more

When I saw that Casey McQuiston was coming out with a new book, I KNEW I needed to read it, and I didn't actually expect to get this arc。 I was kind of scared that it would not meet my expectations as RWRB is one of my all time favorite books, but I'm sooooo glad it did not disappoint。 I cried twice and broke out laughing a few times, and overall, I just found this to be such a beautiful, heartwarming book。Full disclaimer, I did not read the book blurb carefully enough before diving straight int When I saw that Casey McQuiston was coming out with a new book, I KNEW I needed to read it, and I didn't actually expect to get this arc。 I was kind of scared that it would not meet my expectations as RWRB is one of my all time favorite books, but I'm sooooo glad it did not disappoint。 I cried twice and broke out laughing a few times, and overall, I just found this to be such a beautiful, heartwarming book。Full disclaimer, I did not read the book blurb carefully enough before diving straight into this book, so when it jumped into sci-fi territory I was SOOOO confused and I definitely did not see that coming at all。 But I think it's super amazing that Casey McQuiston is kind of expanding genres, while still staying true to herself and writing the most beautiful LGBTQ+ books ever。I love August, I love the way she's written, and the way she thinks and acts。 But I ABSOLUTELY STANNNNN Jane。 She's written so beautifully, and every aspect of her soul makes me believe in love and sunshine and strawberry milkshakes on a summer day。 I also really love seeing an asian character so upfront in a novel, especially in a LGBTQ dynamic。 And the way her character and background is developed is so intricate and detailed, and I just absolutely l o v e the representation。In terms of writing, I found that like RWRB, this book also has a semi-epistolary format? But unlike the letters in RWRB, each chapter starts off with a little snippet from different mediums, and I just found it a super enchanting way to ground the reader and kind of give little pieces of Jane's personality and life, especially since this book has no head-hopping。 I also found the use of present tense to be really interesting, but like RWRB, Casey McQuiston can pull it off! It really just pulls you in and makes you feel like you're living the book with them。I really loved this book, and 10/10 would recommend。 As always the dialogue was witty and quippy and fun, and I loved how One Last Stop brought in that element of sci-fi to a beautifully written LGBTQ love story :D。 。。。more

I was so excited to get an early copy of One Last Stop to review - after Red, White and Royal Blue I had high expectations and Casey McQuiston did not disappoint! This book was so unexpected with a lot of emotional weight to it! Although I smiled at the pages often, this is not a typical romantic comedy。 First love/soul mate plus time-slip/time-travel romance is not *light reading* for me, this love story is SERIOUS business! Don’t you hate it when the side characters slow down the main show? That is not happening here。 What is wonderful about this book and all of the intertwining relationships is that you don’t just get a protagonist and her love interest-- you get a whole group of characters that completely steal your heart。 Niko, Wes, Myla, Isaiah。 I almost loved these four more than August and Jane。 (Almost!)Oh, how you'll root for this seemingly impossible love story。 Every moment agonizing over what would happen was worth it in the end。 Drink a late coffee and just accept it that you'll be up all night reading! 。。。more

Pure genius and heartwarming。 Now this book, it brings you through a roller coaster of emotions。 A genuine rollercoaster。 One that I've never ridden before。 At one point I was laughing so hard, at another I was crying (this is the first book in months that had been able to make me cry), at another I was eager, and at the end, I was at peace。 I didn't read the synopsis to this book before starting so I genuinely was surprised by where the story was going and who the characters were。 And let me tell you, this is the most unique romance novel I have read, and I love anything time related。 This book proves that romances don't have to have a certain set of rules。 Two people can fall in love against all odds, literally。 Not even time can stop them。And to finish off this review, I just want to put out there how much I love Wes, and I think everyone else will love him and the rest of the group just as much as I do。Movie to watch if you enjoyed this book: The Lake HouseThank you so much to NetGalley and St。Martin's Press for the earc in return for an honest review。 。。。more

I was a little skeptical when I saw the time-warp aspect of this plot line, but McQuiston played it really well。 I also LOVED all the drag references in the book, as a huge RPDR fan。 She had some really well developed characters, and some of the secondary plots were really endearing and wonderful to read。 Would definitely recommend this book。

This was a must request for me, as I am a huge fan of McQuiston's Red, White, and Royal Blue。 I really had no idea what it was about except it involved two girls, a subway, and romance。 I didn't read the description well enough to know going into this that there was a supernatural twist, and what I first thought might be too weird to me really made this story fantastic and surprising。I adored this book。 The love story was so sweet, and the ending was really unexpected and better than I imagined。 This was a must request for me, as I am a huge fan of McQuiston's Red, White, and Royal Blue。 I really had no idea what it was about except it involved two girls, a subway, and romance。 I didn't read the description well enough to know going into this that there was a supernatural twist, and what I first thought might be too weird to me really made this story fantastic and surprising。I adored this book。 The love story was so sweet, and the ending was really unexpected and better than I imagined。 Jane and August were fantastic main characters and were fleshed out enough that I really felt a connection to them。 But even better were the side characters- I loved them all and would read stories just about them。 I could not put this one down。It wasn't really like Red White and Royal Blue, so if you want something exactly the same this really isn't it。 However, McQuiston has a writing style that is all her own, and I will definitely put everything she writes on my TBR list。This review was provided for an ARC, courtesy of NetGalley and publisher St。 Martin's Griffin。 。。。more

Casey McQuiston does it again with One Last Stop。 This is a book that I read slowly, savoring。 It's hard to follow up a book like Red, White, and Royal Blue。 One Last Stop does so magnificently。 With her second book, McQuiston introduces readers to August and her delightfully quirky roommates。 August has never really felt like she belonged, and it takes landing in this queer and accepting group for August to start to figure out that maybe she has more than she thought to offer。 And, what's a sto Casey McQuiston does it again with One Last Stop。 This is a book that I read slowly, savoring。 It's hard to follow up a book like Red, White, and Royal Blue。 One Last Stop does so magnificently。 With her second book, McQuiston introduces readers to August and her delightfully quirky roommates。 August has never really felt like she belonged, and it takes landing in this queer and accepting group for August to start to figure out that maybe she has more than she thought to offer。 And, what's a story set in NYC without a bit of love。 With a bit of magical realism, August also falls for a girl on the Q train。 There's just a catch (or two) that may involve some time travel to figure out if the connection is one that can last。 It's a delightful book with heart that readers are going to fall for this summer。 Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for sharing this book with me。 All thoughts are my own。 。。。more

4。5/5It took me some time to evaluate how I felt about this book。 When I read Red, White and Royal Blue it was at the right time, right place。 I can’t articulate what resonated about it with me。 I had hoped that One Last Stop would follow in those footsteps。 This book also encompassed things I liked – more so than RWRB, so why did I like this one less than RWRB? My only conclusion is that I felt RWRB had more heart than OLS did。 For me, personally at least。 I really wanted to be like 10000/5 sta 4。5/5It took me some time to evaluate how I felt about this book。 When I read Red, White and Royal Blue it was at the right time, right place。 I can’t articulate what resonated about it with me。 I had hoped that One Last Stop would follow in those footsteps。 This book also encompassed things I liked – more so than RWRB, so why did I like this one less than RWRB? My only conclusion is that I felt RWRB had more heart than OLS did。 For me, personally at least。 I really wanted to be like 10000/5 stars, but unfortunately, for me, that isn’t the case。 Let me make it very clear this book is still fabulous and a lot of people will love it but I think overall it had some issues because I feel RWRB was a lot to beat。 Now that I've said that, there are some things that this book does that RWRB did as well, and did splendidly。 As always, there is a lot of diversity in this series。 It feels like McQuiston is really trying to reach the largest audience and most diverse one。 So points for that。 I think that they accomplish this very well。 We’ve got Asian characters, Black characters, trans characters, queer characters and I do believe August is fat, so fat characters as well。 I think my biggest issue with this book is the pacing。 The pacing was driving me up the wall。 I love a good slow paced character driven book。 And this I think was supposed to be that。 Unfortunately, some of it was a bit repetitive and boring at points。 Usually you’re supposed to see character progression and we don’t really get that until the very end。 I really think the pacing of this book is what made me love it a little bit less。 I did enjoy the characters。 I like that August feels real。 She was relatable to me in many ways, and I think she was the perfect character for the story to focus on and around。 We get to see her POV more than anyone else’s and it is her story that drives the book。 But as I said previously, at times it feels like the pacing doesn’t work and we’re not getting any progression which doesn’t help August’s character at all。 I know August is supposed to be bi, and as a bi person and fat, I love her for it。 I just wish。。。I’m not sure what else I wanted from her。 But I feel that it is missing something for me。 The side characters were lovely too。 I like how they all interacted and their stories that we get briefly。 I especially liked how it all came together in the end。 I'm not sure I could pick a favorite side character。 I very much enjoyed the relationship between Jane and August。 I think the romance was well developed and absolutely adorable。 As a note for people, this book does have explicit steamy scenes。 So。。。yes。 😏 Moving on。。。 The plot。 Granted, I only half read the description。 Saw the author the cover, heard f/f meet cute essentially and was sold。 I did not realize how much of a supernatural or paranormal element there was going to be in here。 That was a lovely surprise because I love those elements in any story。 I like how it was introduced too。 I think that was so well done, that if you hadn’t know it had a supernatural element your jaw would drop。 Mine did。 I think the only downside also is that it feels like there was so much going on in this book。 Lots of little subplots supposed to be connecting to the next, and while I generally felt it was well done, I did feel that at points it was almost too much trying to juggle。 But overall, I think this book was absolutely amazing, and people are going to LOVE it。 This is a sweet paranormal rom-com meet cute book, and it is going to appeal to a lot of people。CW: mentions of death, anxiety, homophobia, racism, and blood。 。。。more

One Last Stop takes its time to lay the groundwork of this magnetic and passionate yearning romance。 The original story slowly unravels the mystery and eases into a slightly supernatural space with creative antics。Though the book is grounded in many realistic events, it is surprising in how it smartly addresses small continuity errors when introducing and explaining the fantastical, proving how detailed and well thought out the world building in the writing is。 When the story reaches the breakin One Last Stop takes its time to lay the groundwork of this magnetic and passionate yearning romance。 The original story slowly unravels the mystery and eases into a slightly supernatural space with creative antics。Though the book is grounded in many realistic events, it is surprising in how it smartly addresses small continuity errors when introducing and explaining the fantastical, proving how detailed and well thought out the world building in the writing is。 When the story reaches the breaking point, the set up pays off and unpredictably ties back together。Though some of the party scenes don’t have large motivators pertaining to the plot, McQuiston gives us great descriptors to aid in visualizing how each scene will play out。 The book builds appealing intrigue and raises the stakes, making you want to learn more about these characters and see what becomes of them。The novel’s characters are inclusive, diverse and queer without overtly pushing an agenda。 The side characters could have been more fleshed out, but there are so many layers added to the protagonists。 Witty humour is sprinkled throughout the novel, guided by a millennial voice and narrated with contemporary dialogue。What is most fascinating about this story is the manner in which it explores intersectional queer Asian identity, touching on history and gentrification, driving home the point of the importance of identity and knowing your roots。Thank you to St, Martin's Press and Netgalley for the ARC! 。。。more

I only read rwrb for the first time about a week ago and still haven’t given it a rating。 I was stuck between four or five stars。 One last stop knocked it out of the park。 Definitely a five star read for me。 Sometimes comparison makes things a little easier。I feel like since their last book, McQuiston stepped up their game。 One last stop cuts through the surface level, and made me truly believe that Jane and August loved each other。 The side characters were so fun, and while I wished we could ge I only read rwrb for the first time about a week ago and still haven’t given it a rating。 I was stuck between four or five stars。 One last stop knocked it out of the park。 Definitely a five star read for me。 Sometimes comparison makes things a little easier。I feel like since their last book, McQuiston stepped up their game。 One last stop cuts through the surface level, and made me truly believe that Jane and August loved each other。 The side characters were so fun, and while I wished we could get a bit more of a backstory for them, maybe a novella about Niko and Myla, I was given enough that it wasn’t disappointing。 I never wanted to put this book down。 I cursed work for making me busy, and spent half my shifts itching to read again。 The fantasy twist really throws everything into gear - the characters are interesting, the writing is seamless and beautiful, the relationships are developed well。 But there’s something about a sprinkling of fantasy in this way that brings in the magic。 Not just in the plot, in a literal kind of way, but in a way that excites you while you read。 I was there, rooting for them, just as confused as everyone else, while they were figuring it out。 I knew time travel was involved but I wasn’t expecting it in this way, and it was a fantastic surprise。 100% recommended One last stop。 I’ll definitely be buying my own copy when the physical book is released。 。。。more
