Summary

Demigods Nico di Angelo and Will Solace must endure the terrors of Tartarus to rescue an old friend in this thrilling adventure co-written by New York Times #1 best-selling author Rick Riordan and award-winning author Mark Oshiro。

Percy Jackson fans, rejoice! Nico and Will have a book of their own!

As the son of Hades, Nico di Angelo has been through so much, from the premature deaths of his mother and sister, to being outed against his will, to losing his friend Jason during the trials of Apollo。 But there is a ray of sunshine in his life–literally: his boyfriend, Will Solace, the son of Apollo。 Together the two demigods can overcome any obstacle or foe。 At least, that’s been the case so far 。 。 。

Now Nico is being plagued by a voice calling out to him from Tartarus, the lowest part of the Underworld。 He thinks he knows who it is: a reformed Titan named Bob whom Percy and Annabeth had to leave behind when they escaped Hades’s realm。 Nico’s dreams and Rachel Dare’s latest prophecy leave little doubt in Nico’s mind that Bob is in some kind of trouble。 Nico has to go on this quest, whether Mr。 D and Chiron like it or not。 And of course Will insists on coming with。 But can a being made of light survive in the darkest part of the world? and what does the prophecy mean that Nico will have to “leave something of equal value behind?”

Nico will have to face demons both internal and external as his relationship with Will is tested to the core in this standalone adventure featuring two of the most popular characters in the Percy Jackson saga。

Thank you to NetGalley for the introductory chapters of this book。 It is difficult to provide feedback for this title since it was only the first few chapters。 I will acquire this book for my students and read it since it is a Rick Riordan work。 I usually enjoy books with a mythological twist, but I was still waiting for this one to grab me, even after chapter three。 These books usually throw the reader right into the action, but this one starts slower; hopefully, it will gain momentum as it pro Thank you to NetGalley for the introductory chapters of this book。 It is difficult to provide feedback for this title since it was only the first few chapters。 I will acquire this book for my students and read it since it is a Rick Riordan work。 I usually enjoy books with a mythological twist, but I was still waiting for this one to grab me, even after chapter three。 These books usually throw the reader right into the action, but this one starts slower; hopefully, it will gain momentum as it progresses。 。。。more

This short teaser was great! Nico is having having some crazy dreams lately。 Nico is the son of Hades。 Something within his dreams keeps telling him to listen。Virtually alone in Camp Halfblood, Nico is trying to figure out what is going on。Mark Oshiro does a great job with Rick Riordan’s work, but nothing can top the original series。I can’t wait for the completed book to come out later this year so I can read it over and over again。

I got a small preview of the book back in November and everything about it is perfect。 Mark Oshiro adds the perfect touch to Rick Riordan's work。 I cannot wait until the full book comes out, waiting another month feels too long。 I have been following Percy Jackson since I was a kid and this is my all time favorite series, Nico is my favorite and having a book in his point of view is everything I have ever wanted。 I love being able to read all the extra stuff that goes on in Nico's head and I can I got a small preview of the book back in November and everything about it is perfect。 Mark Oshiro adds the perfect touch to Rick Riordan's work。 I cannot wait until the full book comes out, waiting another month feels too long。 I have been following Percy Jackson since I was a kid and this is my all time favorite series, Nico is my favorite and having a book in his point of view is everything I have ever wanted。 I love being able to read all the extra stuff that goes on in Nico's head and I can't wait to finally have him and Will be the main character,。 。。。more

This review is based on the first five chapters of the book, which were available from the publisher and NetGalley。 It’s difficult to give a review based on just a sample, but the book so far contains Riordan’s trademark ability to tell a serious story with oddball humor mixed throughout。 The story looks like it will focus on the trauma that Nico has built up through the previous books, along with his relationship with his boyfriend Will, so hopefully there will be some kind of happy resolution This review is based on the first five chapters of the book, which were available from the publisher and NetGalley。 It’s difficult to give a review based on just a sample, but the book so far contains Riordan’s trademark ability to tell a serious story with oddball humor mixed throughout。 The story looks like it will focus on the trauma that Nico has built up through the previous books, along with his relationship with his boyfriend Will, so hopefully there will be some kind of happy resolution for him。 I’ll be looking forward to reading the full book and learning the fate of Bob the Titan。 。。。more

I only really got to read the first fifty or so pages of this book through a NetGalley sampler, so I cannot give a complete review on this book。 Even if I did get the whole book, however, it would be a bit difficult to review a book about a character who was absolutely integral to my childhood development, and I am much older than the target age for, because the passage of time is something that never seems significant until you realize that you are older than the characters that you grew up wit I only really got to read the first fifty or so pages of this book through a NetGalley sampler, so I cannot give a complete review on this book。 Even if I did get the whole book, however, it would be a bit difficult to review a book about a character who was absolutely integral to my childhood development, and I am much older than the target age for, because the passage of time is something that never seems significant until you realize that you are older than the characters that you grew up with。 。。。more

This sneak peek to Mark Oshiro’s and Rick Riordan’s The Sun and the Star is exactly what I look for in a novel in the Percy Jackson universe。 Full of humor, even in the midst of intense cinematic moments, and great character interiority that showed the humanity of characters that once felt so untouchable。This opening did a great job showing what’s at stake for these beloved characters as well as making me so excited for what journey this story is going to be。 I’m absolutely ready to pick up the This sneak peek to Mark Oshiro’s and Rick Riordan’s The Sun and the Star is exactly what I look for in a novel in the Percy Jackson universe。 Full of humor, even in the midst of intense cinematic moments, and great character interiority that showed the humanity of characters that once felt so untouchable。This opening did a great job showing what’s at stake for these beloved characters as well as making me so excited for what journey this story is going to be。 I’m absolutely ready to pick up the full work once it’s released to the world。 。。。more

This was just the first five chapters of The Sun and the Star but they were so good! Nico and Will are getting reading to go on a quest to Tartarus to bring back Bob the Titan。 I can’t wait for this book to be out。 I’m really hoping for lots of Will and Nico moments as a couple throughout the entire book! Thank you netgalley for the sampler!

This chapter sampler provides a peek of the first five chapters of The Sun and the Star, a new book in the Riordanverse in which Nico di Angelo accepts a quest that will take him and his boyfriend, Will Solace, to the depths of the underworld in hopes of bringing back Bob, a reformed Titan。 While this is co-authored。 the jokes present in Riordan’s other works were not left out, which I loved。 Just with these five chapters, I’m already needing more。 I can’t wait for the full book!

NetGalley ARC Educator 550974This is just a teaser of what the book holds。 It's enough to wet your reading appetite to want more。 This is Nico's quest。 He's not sure if it's a setup or an attempt to save an old friend。 If he fails, he'll never be found。 There are some old characters from previous books mentioned, however this can be read as a standalone。 I can't wait to read the entire book。 NetGalley ARC Educator 550974This is just a teaser of what the book holds。 It's enough to wet your reading appetite to want more。 This is Nico's quest。 He's not sure if it's a setup or an attempt to save an old friend。 If he fails, he'll never be found。 There are some old characters from previous books mentioned, however this can be read as a standalone。 I can't wait to read the entire book。 。。。more

Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the first 5 chapters of this book in exchange for an honest review。I am so happy to get something from Nico's perspective。 He's been one of my favorite side characters from Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO) and Heroes of Olympus (HoO), and it's great to see his thoughts。 On that note, I think it would have been better for it to have been 1st person POV, like PJO was, instead of narrow 3rd person, like the revolving character chapters of HoO, Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read the first 5 chapters of this book in exchange for an honest review。I am so happy to get something from Nico's perspective。 He's been one of my favorite side characters from Percy Jackson and the Olympians (PJO) and Heroes of Olympus (HoO), and it's great to see his thoughts。 On that note, I think it would have been better for it to have been 1st person POV, like PJO was, instead of narrow 3rd person, like the revolving character chapters of HoO, since I'm assuming the entire book is from Nico's POV。(view spoiler)[The inclusion of Nico's native language in one of his nightmares was a wonderful touch, reminding us that he's Italian, not just Greek, and that was his first language。I love how much Nico loves his boyfriend, and it's clear from body language and everything Will says in chapter 5 that the feelings are strong and mutual。 I look forward to seeing how it progresses。Mr。 D is still one of the funniest but most frustrating characters。 Gods, I love him。 (hide spoiler)]I can't wait to see how the rest of the book is, cuz these first 50 or so pages were great! Thanks again to Netgalley!**this will probably be updated once I've read the full book** 。。。more

The Sun and The Star picks up after the Heroes of Olympus with Nico and Will at Camp Half-Blood once the events of the previous adventure have calmed down。 Well, they appear to have calmed down, but Nico is inwardly tormented by voices and horrible dreams calling him to a quest to return to Tartarus。 In what I can only describe as an absolute delightful exchange between Nico, Will, Chiron, and Mr。 D (who I actually kind of love in this book), it is decided that Will will accompany Nico on his qu The Sun and The Star picks up after the Heroes of Olympus with Nico and Will at Camp Half-Blood once the events of the previous adventure have calmed down。 Well, they appear to have calmed down, but Nico is inwardly tormented by voices and horrible dreams calling him to a quest to return to Tartarus。 In what I can only describe as an absolute delightful exchange between Nico, Will, Chiron, and Mr。 D (who I actually kind of love in this book), it is decided that Will will accompany Nico on his quest。The tone of this book definitely strikes differently than the previous series - it’s more tender and thoughtful in my opinion, almost a more mature and wise telling than Percy’s sarcastic and unfiltered narrations。 I think this is indicative of the difference in main characters。 Nico seems to be very aware of his personal trauma and how it affects his feelings and behavior。 The overall feel to me was a more grown-up and nuanced story, but still with the humor and action typically associated with Riordan’s books。I only read the first few chapters, but you can bet that I have the complete book preordered to read in its entirety once it releases on May 2!
