Summary

Pipo thinks that pizza is the best。 No, Pipo knows that pizza is the best。 It is scientific fact。 But when she sets out on a neighborhood-spanning quest to prove it, she discovers that "best" might not mean what she thought it meant。

Join Pipo as she cooks new foods with her friends Eugene, Farah, Dakota, and Ronnie and Donnie。 Each eating experiment delights and stuns her taste buds。 Is a family recipe for bibimbap better than pizza? What about a Moroccan tagine that reminds you of home? Or is the best food in the world the kind of food you share with the people you love?

4。5 stars。 Illustrations are a bit too busy for a story time, but a fun read-aloud both kids and adults will enjoy。

Such a sweet celebration of all things food and flavor! This is a little wordy, but full of fun jokes in the text and illustration that will make readers of all ages laugh and enjoy this little scientific study。

Are there foods better than pizza? Pipo wants to find out。 I was hoping this would inspire my picky eater, but no dice。 I enjoyed it, however。

Pipo expands her palate when, in the name of gathering scientific data, she's finally willing to try some dinners OTHER than pizza。 A cute introduction to the appeals of world cuisine and the merits of breaking bread with the people you love。I'm uncomfortable with the squinty-eyed portrayal of the Korean elder who dishes out bibimbap with Pipo's neighbor Eugene。 Bummer。 Pipo expands her palate when, in the name of gathering scientific data, she's finally willing to try some dinners OTHER than pizza。 A cute introduction to the appeals of world cuisine and the merits of breaking bread with the people you love。I'm uncomfortable with the squinty-eyed portrayal of the Korean elder who dishes out bibimbap with Pipo's neighbor Eugene。 Bummer。 。。。more

One of the most memorable books I have read so far。 I like the storyline and diversity being shown with characters and culture (food and lifestyle)。 It has a good and funny humor as well, it is a book many kids can relate to as well。 Would recommend and use within a classroom。

Pipo loves pizza! In fact, she loves pizza so much that it is all she will eat for supper。 Finally, Pipo decides to gather the data about what her neighbors are eating and discovers they are eating some very yummy food: bibimbap; tagine; red beans and rice; and more。 Yum, yum! J。 Kenji Lopez-Alt is a chef and a food writer, working as a columnist for the New York Times。 He has authored this picture book about a young girl who only eats pizza。 Her family is tired of pizza and they are trying to get her to be more open-minded about her food choices。 She doesn't want to, but how can she know pizza is truly the best if she never has tried anything else? The story presents a heart-warming sense of community, and represents many cultures through cuisine。 The illustrations are beautiful and engaging and it is a fun story that continuously made me laugh out loud and smile about trying new things and the comfort we can find in a wonderful meal with friends。 There's even a pizza recipe included! 。。。more

A cute story about a girl who thinks pizza is the only best food only to find out that there are a lot of other awesome foods that she needs to try before making that claim。 Probably a good book for picky eaters or for non-picky eaters who really like to learn about foods from different cultures (albeit superficially)。 At times (especially in the first few pages) there is so much happening, it is hard to know what part the author wanted me to read first; nevertheless, it's a worthy read。 A cute story about a girl who thinks pizza is the only best food only to find out that there are a lot of other awesome foods that she needs to try before making that claim。 Probably a good book for picky eaters or for non-picky eaters who really like to learn about foods from different cultures (albeit superficially)。 At times (especially in the first few pages) there is so much happening, it is hard to know what part the author wanted me to read first; nevertheless, it's a worthy read。 。。。more

Food, trying new things, diversity, neighborhood, pizzaNote- The length and jokes would probably be over the heads of most of my preschoolers, but I think the 5-8 year olds would really get a lot out of this as a read aloud。 Very cute and spunky book about trying new foods。

Nicki

A great way to explore new foods! Love the different love of food in this story!!

Robert

A charming and fast read for kids from the food lab。 I’ll have to try the recipe for pizza next!

Good kid's book, a way to show picky eaters that there is more to the world。I hope if?/when? What a fun book! We had to read it twice through because we both enjoyed it so much the first time。 I love all the culture and the subliminal message to try new foods。 Dallin loves "french onion p---" and saying Bibimbop over and over again。 Such a fun story- we'll be looking out for more books by this author。 What a fun book! Rich illustrations, simple but with lots of details to catch the eye。 Fun story - laughed at the dad longing for grapefruit。 Loved the mouth-watering exploration of best foods from different families and the explanation of “best” near the end。 Also so neat that a recipe for pizza is included at the end!

Cute introduction to yummy foods。 The recipe for pizza in the back is a fun addition。 The storyline and the text were a little hard to follow sometimes。

It's a (scientific) fact that culture is best shared through things that bring us joy: food, music, and stories come to mind。 This little gem is too long for a read-aloud to big groups, but it would be a delightful shared reading experience that will crack open the hard little nut of the American Child Eater。 Maybe you read it while your tagine is in the oven, or while your dumplings steam。。。If your kid subsists on mac n' cheese and nuggets, this might be the trick to open their minds and mouths It's a (scientific) fact that culture is best shared through things that bring us joy: food, music, and stories come to mind。 This little gem is too long for a read-aloud to big groups, but it would be a delightful shared reading experience that will crack open the hard little nut of the American Child Eater。 Maybe you read it while your tagine is in the oven, or while your dumplings steam。。。If your kid subsists on mac n' cheese and nuggets, this might be the trick to open their minds and mouths to new foods。 The colors of the foods are dazzling, the adjectives adventurous and the names of the foods are just fun to say。 。。。more
