Summary

The adventures of Geralt the Witcher continue in this second novel in the bestselling Witcher series that inspired the Netflix show and video games。

The kings and armies are manoeuvring for position, each fearing invasion from across the river, each fearing their neighbours more。 Intrigue, dissent and rebellion fester on all sides。

After decades of oppression, the elves and other races are fighting each other and attacking the humans - and with growing numbers preparing for battle, the threat of all-out war looms ever greater。

Against this backdrop of fear, Geralt and Yennefer must protect Ciri, the orphaned heir who is sought by all sides。 For the child of prophecy has the power to change the world - if she lives to use it。

3。5, there’s so much politics in this book i was worried i would be struggling through but the last 2 chapters were so interesting and actually made me enjoy ciri’s character so that’s good !!

Shadow's Bane

Better than the first, paced very slow in the first half and extremely fast in the second half。 Very gruesome book too, like I am reading A Song of Ice and Fire。 Though honestly I was expecting more “witchering” from the book called the Witch, these are more in line with aSoIaF and the First Law。 It has good characters and character interactions though。

Overall, not bad。 A bit too convoluted for its own good, but I was mostly content to have Peter Kenny's gravely voice wash over me。Sapkowski was apparently gunning for the world record in "number of times the title appears in the book"。Not terribly eager to continue the series write now because of the shitty, shitty ending。The attempted rape was bad enough, but immediately following it with actual rape is just。。。I don't know what kind of idiot you have to be to write something like that and thin Overall, not bad。 A bit too convoluted for its own good, but I was mostly content to have Peter Kenny's gravely voice wash over me。Sapkowski was apparently gunning for the world record in "number of times the title appears in the book"。Not terribly eager to continue the series write now because of the shitty, shitty ending。The attempted rape was bad enough, but immediately following it with actual rape is just。。。I don't know what kind of idiot you have to be to write something like that and think it's a good idea。In general, I think (male) authors need a collective intervention so that the idea that sexual assault will make their stories deeper is totally expunged from their brains。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Scorre leggermente più lento rispetto ai precedenti。 I capitoli sono molto lunghi e la loro struttura è diversa rispetto ai 3 precedenti。 La trama si incentra molto sul clima politico senza perdere di vista la crescita dei personaggi。 Ciri ricopre una parte fondamentale del romanzo。 È a tutti gli effetti un "libro di mezzo", dove si inizia a giocare a carte scoperte。 Il finale ti lascia con l'irrefrenabile voglia di sapere come prosegue nel quinto volume。 Scorre leggermente più lento rispetto ai precedenti。 I capitoli sono molto lunghi e la loro struttura è diversa rispetto ai 3 precedenti。 La trama si incentra molto sul clima politico senza perdere di vista la crescita dei personaggi。 Ciri ricopre una parte fondamentale del romanzo。 È a tutti gli effetti un "libro di mezzo", dove si inizia a giocare a carte scoperte。 Il finale ti lascia con l'irrefrenabile voglia di sapere come prosegue nel quinto volume。 。。。more

I made a goal for myself to read all of the Witcher books because I love the game and recently fell in love with the show。Once again, Andrzej has created an entire world, religion, society and war in these books and although they are called “The Witcher”, they don’t involve Geralt or the other witchers all that much。That being said, this book delved deeper into politics which I did complain about in the first instalment however this time it revoked more are the sorcerers council and started buil I made a goal for myself to read all of the Witcher books because I love the game and recently fell in love with the show。Once again, Andrzej has created an entire world, religion, society and war in these books and although they are called “The Witcher”, they don’t involve Geralt or the other witchers all that much。That being said, this book delved deeper into politics which I did complain about in the first instalment however this time it revoked more are the sorcerers council and started building in Ciris development。As with the first book, I struggled with the same themes, the politics aee exhausting, the lack of Geralt annoyed me and the amount of elvish names that I won’t even pretend to know how to pronounce is excessive。 However I did enjoy this sequel more than the first and I can see it will start ramping up over the next few books and as I mentioned it’s my goal to read all of them… and I’m not a pussy。 。。。more

This is one of the best fantasy books I've read。 Sapkowski has a very unique form of writing that I enjoy。 Turning what was originally a short story collection of fairytales into a political drama focusing on characters caught in the middle is great。 My main criticism for this book is the ending was very out of place。 I'd prefer to have it at the start of the next book。 (view spoiler)[ what I don't like is that Ciri finally meets people her age who seemingly care for her and want to help her。 Th This is one of the best fantasy books I've read。 Sapkowski has a very unique form of writing that I enjoy。 Turning what was originally a short story collection of fairytales into a political drama focusing on characters caught in the middle is great。 My main criticism for this book is the ending was very out of place。 I'd prefer to have it at the start of the next book。 (view spoiler)[ what I don't like is that Ciri finally meets people her age who seemingly care for her and want to help her。 The last couple pages of the book is they actually don't really care for her and are abusing her (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

Druga część serii Wiedźmina nie zawiodła。 Każda książka wprowadza czytelnika głębiej w historię i ujawnia więcej szczegółów na temat głównych bohaterów。 Mnóstwo akcji, bitew i niezwykłych stworzeń sprawia, że nie możesz oderwać się od stron。Jeśli chcesz zatracić się w świecie fantazji, ta seria jest do tego stworzona。English:Part two of the Witcher series didn’t disappoint。 Each book brings the reader deeper into the story and reveals more details about main characters。 A lot of action, battles, Druga część serii Wiedźmina nie zawiodła。 Każda książka wprowadza czytelnika głębiej w historię i ujawnia więcej szczegółów na temat głównych bohaterów。 Mnóstwo akcji, bitew i niezwykłych stworzeń sprawia, że nie możesz oderwać się od stron。Jeśli chcesz zatracić się w świecie fantazji, ta seria jest do tego stworzona。English:Part two of the Witcher series didn’t disappoint。 Each book brings the reader deeper into the story and reveals more details about main characters。 A lot of action, battles, and extra ordinary creatures keep you glued to the pages。If you want to get lost in a fantasy world, this is the series to do it。 。。。more

This entry is loaded with politics and factions - and it's not always compelling to keep them separate。 The characters are consistent, but their interactions a bit dull - no sparkling repartee。 On the plus side, this feels like an actual narrative with an arc。 It seems like it moves the story along。 This entry is loaded with politics and factions - and it's not always compelling to keep them separate。 The characters are consistent, but their interactions a bit dull - no sparkling repartee。 On the plus side, this feels like an actual narrative with an arc。 It seems like it moves the story along。 。。。more

More 3。5 or 3。75。 I do like it better than the first book cause most of the dots are finally being connected and consequences are finally happening from all of those choices。

I really enjoyed this entry in the series。 Elements built up have started moving and the pieces have been set for future parts of the story。 Can't wait for the next book。 I really enjoyed this entry in the series。 Elements built up have started moving and the pieces have been set for future parts of the story。 Can't wait for the next book。 。。。more

This is the author's second novel and it's become apparent that he doesn't know how to write a novel。 He's a short story writer。 The novel doesn't have any proper pacing, just a series of stories that kind of wind together by just being in chronological order。 The climax really happens in the middle of the book, followed by two chapters of the characters trying to figure out what just happened (they fail) and then a final short story about Ciri lost in the wilderness that gives no ending to all This is the author's second novel and it's become apparent that he doesn't know how to write a novel。 He's a short story writer。 The novel doesn't have any proper pacing, just a series of stories that kind of wind together by just being in chronological order。 The climax really happens in the middle of the book, followed by two chapters of the characters trying to figure out what just happened (they fail) and then a final short story about Ciri lost in the wilderness that gives no ending to all of the other plot threads。 I swear, half these books are just Geralt, Yennifer, Dandelion, and Ciri looking for each other, and then when they finally meet up it lasts for like two pages。Yes I'm going to keep reading the series。 Shut up。 。。。more

Slow start to the book。 About halfway through the book gets better, the story evolves。 Nevertheless, it is still a good book,

I've got mixed feelings on this one。It definitely isn't as fast paced as the previous books in this series that I've read so far。 I find Ciri to be *a little bit* annoying (as are most teens lol) so having so much of this book follow her POV was not necessarily my cup of tea。 However, I do think that around the halfway mark the story started to pick up。 I am going to read the other books in this series but this is my least favorite so far。 I've got mixed feelings on this one。It definitely isn't as fast paced as the previous books in this series that I've read so far。 I find Ciri to be *a little bit* annoying (as are most teens lol) so having so much of this book follow her POV was not necessarily my cup of tea。 However, I do think that around the halfway mark the story started to pick up。 I am going to read the other books in this series but this is my least favorite so far。 。。。more

I'm not quite sure why this book was written。 The start had me slightly interested but then it felt like it went nowhere。 The plot and storytelling is very fractured and just not exciting whatsoever。 Geralt isn't very present in this sequel and instead, Ciri is pushed to the front which I liked but even that felt very weak towards the end。 At this point, the series really isn't drawing me in anymore。 I'm not quite sure why this book was written。 The start had me slightly interested but then it felt like it went nowhere。 The plot and storytelling is very fractured and just not exciting whatsoever。 Geralt isn't very present in this sequel and instead, Ciri is pushed to the front which I liked but even that felt very weak towards the end。 At this point, the series really isn't drawing me in anymore。 。。。more
