Summary

The longer Mo Ran spends in his life reborn, the less he understands the man he once was, to say nothing of the teacher he so hated。 As emperor of the mortal realm, Mo Ran loathed Chu Wanning with all his being, but the Chu Wanning of this life has sacrificed himself for his student’s sake time and again。 Nevertheless, with the day of Chu Wanning’s greatest betrayal on the horizon, Mo Ran clings to his hatred and his hopes: he must not let the past repeat itself。 Yet strange new tragedies continue to unfold, and Mo Ran finds himself working alongside Chu Wanning to hunt down the mysterious culprit—a cruel mastermind who may know more about Mo Ran than even he remembers。

I was split between 2 and 2。5[MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS FOR VOL 2]I enjoyed this somewhat more than the first volume? But at the same time there's aspects that I liked less。This volume continues right where last one left off (of course) and that's fine, but then came the Xia Sini arc which。。。 dragged on for way too long or at the very least it felt like it did。 Practically nothing happens throughout the entire first half of the volume and I got bored enough to stop reading multiple times。 The story p I was split between 2 and 2。5[MAY INCLUDE SPOILERS FOR VOL 2]I enjoyed this somewhat more than the first volume? Its like they're here for shock value rather than plot and while the author manages to write emotion well, I still feel a disconnect, as i said because the angst feels like its here just for the sake of angst rather than for the sake of the plot and characters。I've already decided that I will PROBABLY try to finish the entirety of 2ha, because I'm interesting in some of the things to come and I want to see how things will conclude。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A VAST improvement from vol 1。 I think vol 1 was entirely set-up, the plot just barely starting at the end。 I do think the lake bit lagged on a bit too much, but once they were back at Sisheng Peak, I was loving it。 I really like the steamier elements in this series。 It’s more frequent than in MXTX’s books, which only get explicit towards the end of her stories or in the extras。 I love the build up but sometimes the more sensual thoughts/feelings of the characters can show clear attraction。 Ther A VAST improvement from vol 1。 I think vol 1 was entirely set-up, the plot just barely starting at the end。 I do think the lake bit lagged on a bit too much, but once they were back at Sisheng Peak, I was loving it。 I really like the steamier elements in this series。 It’s more frequent than in MXTX’s books, which only get explicit towards the end of her stories or in the extras。 I love the build up but sometimes the more sensual thoughts/feelings of the characters can show clear attraction。 There’s also a very emotional side to this volume。 I can’t even count, nor recall when and how many times I cried or teared up。 Chu Wanning’s pain hurt me。 To love and protect someone at a distance…。 It’s soul crushing to the individual。 Reminds me of Lan Zhan from MDZS。 I live for the small wholesome moments, and that New Years chapter had me smiling the whole way through。 It reminded me of the New Years chapter in Faraway Wanderers, which I also adored。 Xue Meng being drunk and clinging to Chu Wanning was beyond cute。 Shi Mei is such a sweetheart, I honestly love the tension between him and Mo Ran。 Speaking of, Mo Ran has changed a lot and is now the resident goofball- I like him much more than I did in volume 1。 It is definitely intense to hear the stuff he did in his past life though, especially the stuff he did to Chu Wanning… I’m really glad he’s getting a redemption。 The time they spend together, particularly with “Xia Sini,” is so wholesome。 The group has such a great dynamic going。 I already know that this series is going to break me。 Can’t wait! 。。。more

Not as great as the first book, but definitely has its exciting moments! This is also where a lot of the foreshadowing and setting-up of plot starts to come into play, so it's not as enjoyable until the second time around。 Not as great as the first book, but definitely has its exciting moments! I really honestly enjoy this series so much。 It feels unique for Danmei, and I am excited to keep going, and also try other titles from this author。 If you have been thinking about trying the genre, I think this series wouldn't be a bad place to start。 I feel like it doesn't just drop you into the story like some others I've read。 I really honestly enjoy this series so much。 It feels unique for Danmei, and I am excited to keep going, and also try other titles from this author。 If you have been thinking about trying the genre, I think this series wouldn't be a bad place to start。 I feel like it doesn't just drop you into the story like some others I've read。 。。。more

me: I hate the miscommunication trope also me: devours this series, which could be summed up as "a tale of miscommunication" and loves itThis series continues to blow me away - I don't think I've ever had so many theories while reading a book, at least, not for a long time。 I've basically composed podcasts with my theories。 This series is too good, and I cannot believe it's not more hyped/popular。 I cannot wait for volume 3, although it seems like it'll be many months before it's released。 In th me: I hate the miscommunication trope also me: devours this series, which could be summed up as "a tale of miscommunication" and loves itThis series continues to blow me away - I don't think I've ever had so many theories while reading a book, at least, not for a long time。 I've basically composed podcasts with my theories。 This series is too good, and I cannot believe it's not more hyped/popular。 I cannot wait for volume 3, although it seems like it'll be many months before it's released。 In the meantime, I'll do my best to not read any spoilers and just brainstorm what in the world might happen next - ESPECIALLY after that ending。 。。。more

After the painful cliffhanger of the first volume, book two of The Husky and His White Cat Shizun picks up in the same place, with Mo Ran waking up after Chu Wanning saved him (while in the body of one of his disciples, Shi Mei)。 Injured and exhausted, the three, along with their other fellow disciple, Xue Meng, escape from the lake and head back to Sisheng Peak to recover and plan their next steps now that they have a new enemy to track。 While there, Mo Ran remains wary of Chu Wanning, but his After the painful cliffhanger of the first volume, book two of The Husky and His White Cat Shizun picks up in the same place, with Mo Ran waking up after Chu Wanning saved him (while in the body of one of his disciples, Shi Mei)。 Injured and exhausted, the three, along with their other fellow disciple, Xue Meng, escape from the lake and head back to Sisheng Peak to recover and plan their next steps now that they have a new enemy to track。 While there, Mo Ran remains wary of Chu Wanning, but his feelings soften a bit。 Not long after though, Chu Wanning experiences a strange side effect of the battle at the lake and is turned into a small child! He thus announces he's going into seclusion but in reality secretly spends time with Mo Ran and his other disciples under the guise of a shidi named Xia Sini。Then comes the arrival of the Feathered Tribe, bringing bad memories of Mo Ran's past life roaring back, as that heralded the coming of the event that set him on the path for evil: the death of his crush, Shi Mei。 But events play out differently this time around, as not only Shi Mei, but also Xue Meng, Mo Ran, and Xia Sini are all selected to train with the Feathered Tribe。 Mo Ran eagerly seizes this opportunity to train in the hopes of protecting Shi Mei from his tragic demise。 However, the two are separated into different groups, with Shi Mei going to the healing faction, and Mo Ran, "Xia Sini," and Xue Meng the fighting group。 During this time, Mo Ran and Chu Wanning, in his child form, grow very close and end up having to contend with a trap set by the fake Gouchen they encountered in the first book, who proves himself to be a formidable adversary。 The pair follow his trail in an attempt to uncover his identity and ultimate goal, all the while meeting familiar faces from Mo Ran's past life and struggling with their convoluted and evolving feelings for one another。Just like the first volume, this addition to the series is equal parts hilarious and heart-breaking, heartfelt and frustrating。 I really enjoyed the cute interactions between Mo Ran and "Xia Sini," and I think it definitely helped the relationship between Chu Wanning and Mo Ran since Chu Wanning was able to gain a better understanding of Mo Ran's feelings and insecurities。 Of course, as is their way, the two continued to dance a "two steps forward, one step back" waltz, making for some painful interactions that made me feel for Chu Wanning。 Still, their overall progress satisfied me, and even though the ending foreshadowed potentially negative consequences, the character growth soothes my worries about what will happen next。 There's a lot that takes place in this book, and I can't discuss it without giving things away, so I have to limit the scope of my review to this。 But I greatly enjoyed this book and I can't wait to read more! 。。。more

I am so very interested in the mysteries presented in this world but also so very frustrated with how slow this romance is going。 I'm usually a lover of slow burns but dear God if something could just HAPPEN。 Not that things aren't happening, but that every time they take one step forward they move about 10 back。 I am so very interested in the mysteries presented in this world but also so very frustrated with how slow this romance is going。 I'm usually a lover of slow burns but dear God if something could just HAPPEN。 Not that things aren't happening, but that every time they take one step forward they move about 10 back。 。。。more

This volume just barely skims over what I feel is some pretty important character development in favor of indulging in a fanfic trope that's frankly jarring, given the story's overall tone, but it actually feels like we've moved forward by the end, and I'm curious to see if my suspicions about the villain's identity are correct or if we've been deliberately misled。 Also: ✨emotional vulnerability✨ This volume just barely skims over what I feel is some pretty important character development in favor of indulging in a fanfic trope that's frankly jarring, given the story's overall tone, but it actually feels like we've moved forward by the end, and I'm curious to see if my suspicions about the villain's identity are correct or if we've been deliberately misled。 Also: ✨emotional vulnerability✨ 。。。more

I was very excited to finally get my hands on the second book in this series。 The first novel absolutely astounded me with the writing and most importantly the characters。 One thing that I have noticed in this book and the first one is that the pacing is absolutely incredible。 I was impressed with the multiple plots this novel included without any one of them feeling rushed or oversimplified。 I also think it was clever how the translators decided to leave off this novel when we finally see Mo Ra I was very excited to finally get my hands on the second book in this series。 The first novel absolutely astounded me with the writing and most importantly the characters。 One thing that I have noticed in this book and the first one is that the pacing is absolutely incredible。 I was impressed with the multiple plots this novel included without any one of them feeling rushed or oversimplified。 I also think it was clever how the translators decided to leave off this novel when we finally see Mo Ran actively trying to become a better person。 As frustrating as it is, the cliffhanger definitely has me excited to read the third novel which comes out in August of this yearSomething that I really enjoyed in this novel in comparison to the previous one is how much more of the scenes came from Chu Wanning's point of view as opposed to Mo Ran's。 It gave the book an entirely different feel, one that was more intense and almost somber。 I came to love Chu Wanning's character so much more due to the fact that I go to know him better/Overall I would heavily recommend this novel to those who love fantasy or action-packed novels。 There was no dull point in this book and I ended up finishing it in two days because of this。 As for fantasy fans, I definitely believe you won't regret reading this due to how the world is so well-fleshed out, with a rich background in which you can definitely tell the author put in a lot of hard work。 。。。more
