A solid follow-up book to Dune。

Frank Herbert is a fantastic writer and a great world builder and I enjoy the concepts of Dune greatly… it’s so much world-building that a decent chunk of this book went right over my head lol, and not nearly as exciting as the first

Dune doesn't seem to stop surprising me。 This is a sci-fi book published in 1969 and is still this good。This second book is really slow compared to the first one, but still。。。 Really worth reading。 Dune doesn't seem to stop surprising me。 This is a sci-fi book published in 1969 and is still this good。This second book is really slow compared to the first one, but still。。。 Really worth reading。 。。。more

Perfection。 I'm so glad I've found the courage to read Dune (it does have the reputation of being complicated)。 Dune was great and Dune Messiah just continues on the same level。 The political intrigue in this book is so good, but what made this book shine was Paul's character development。 When you think back on where he started in Dune, and where he ends here。 Perfection。 On to read Children of Dune。 Perfection。 I'm so glad I've found the courage to read Dune (it does have the reputation of being complicated)。 Dune was great and Dune Messiah just continues on the same level。 The political intrigue in this book is so good, but what made this book shine was Paul's character development。 When you think back on where he started in Dune, and where he ends here。 Perfection。 On to read Children of Dune。 。。。more

Hmm。 This book is a hard one。 I don’t feel I fully understood what it was trying to do, and thus it fell a bit flat for me。

Dune Messiah is an interesting work of science fiction that explores two themes I have not previously encountered。 First, it attempts to show how one with the power of prescience would view the world and make decisions。 Second, it portrays an emperor who is wildly successful in the traditional sense, but who is not at all pleased with the actions that have been, and continue to be, done in his name。 These topics transform what would otherwise be a very average story into something far more worth Dune Messiah is an interesting work of science fiction that explores two themes I have not previously encountered。 First, it attempts to show how one with the power of prescience would view the world and make decisions。 Second, it portrays an emperor who is wildly successful in the traditional sense, but who is not at all pleased with the actions that have been, and continue to be, done in his name。 These topics transform what would otherwise be a very average story into something far more worthwhile。 。。。more

Different in tone and scope to the first book, but still enjoyable。 Quite short, but did a good job of bridging the story and setting the scene for the rest of the series to come。

In some way, better than the first book

After a slow start, Dune Messiah develops into a chess match between Paul and those conspiring against him。 The narrative is disrupted by musings on power and the difficulty of appreciating the present when you know the future。  Nevertheless, I was sad when it ended。

Excellent gripping novel。

Solid Sequel。 The story was a bit slow at some points but other than the sus relationship between Duncan and Alia, I liked just about everything about this book。

This book gets a lot of hate for not living up to the quality of the first Dune, but I think it’s a great sequel。

just kind of struggled to get into this one compared to the first

Dune was an epic space opera about a relatable teenage protagonist on his quest for revenge which gave the original book a more human feeling。 Dune Messiah forks away with a much more unique plot。 The obstacles are political and psychological rather then emotional like the first book。 Paul's all grown up and the burden of the Imperium has changed him and that is for the better。 Dune Messiah takes a risk by painting the events of the first book as a tragedy and a loss。 It outlines the horror of r Dune was an epic space opera about a relatable teenage protagonist on his quest for revenge which gave the original book a more human feeling。 Dune Messiah forks away with a much more unique plot。 The obstacles are political and psychological rather then emotional like the first book。 Paul's all grown up and the burden of the Imperium has changed him and that is for the better。 Dune Messiah takes a risk by painting the events of the first book as a tragedy and a loss。 It outlines the horror of religious fanaticism and war in the name of religion。 A prophet is acting as the head of the state and uses his godhood to influence the universe achieving more power than any entity is history。 It is harder to understand the motivations of Paul and Alia in Dune Messiah because of how relevant their oracular abilities are to the plot which makes the plot a bit untidy。 In fact, I found myself more invested when the narration was done by Hayt or Scytale maybe because they are not walking gods lol。 However, keep reading because the book eventually delivers。 The ending is quite satisfying and gives appropriate sendoffs to many characters while setting the stage for future characters and plots。 Like the first book, the reader gets to decide if it is time to say goodbye to the universe of Dune or they can carry on。My favorite character award goes to Paul Atreides。 He is much more bad ass in Dune Messiah and it was interesting to have a protagonist trying to stop himself from losing his position rather than gain a higher one。 。。。more

The quality of writing feels much lower。 More of a daytime Emmy vibe。 Idk。

A bit of a disappointment compared to the first book。 12 years is a pretty big time jump between books and I wish we got to see some of that, especially considering how little action we actually got in this book。 Very dialogue/exposition heavy。 The first book was a very fun, hopeful kind of space adventure feeling, while this one was definitely a bit more doom and gloom。 Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not my personal favourite。 I’ll read the next in the series since I’ve heard it make A bit of a disappointment compared to the first book。 12 years is a pretty big time jump between books and I wish we got to see some of that, especially considering how little action we actually got in this book。 Very dialogue/exposition heavy。 The first book was a very fun, hopeful kind of space adventure feeling, while this one was definitely a bit more doom and gloom。 Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just not my personal favourite。 I’ll read the next in the series since I’ve heard it makes up for the sequel。 Just wish Dune Messiah had a little less talk and a little more action。 。。。more
