Summary

Our attention has never been as overwhelmed or in-demand as it is today; we've never been so busy while accomplishing so little, and we've grown uncomfortable with boredom and a lack of stimulation and distraction。

In Hyperfocus, Chris Bailey - described by TED。com as 'the most productive man you could ever hope to meet' - provides profound insights into how we can best manage our attention。 He reveals how the brain switches between two mental modes - hyperfocus, our deep concentration mode, and scatterfocus, our creative, reflective mode - and how the surest path to being our most creative and efficient selves at work to combine them both。

The often counterintuitive wisdom at play includes:
- How working fewer hours increases our productivity
- How drinking caffeine strategically instead of habitually gives us more energy
- How we get more done by making our work harder, not easier
- How we do our best creative work when we're the most tired

Merging neuroscience, psychology and mindfulness, with practical takeaways for being more focused in our work and wider lives, Hyperfocus will help you think about and manage your attention on a daily basis。

Not bad, but this was padded considerably and regurgitates a lot of the same points you'll find in other books and articles of this type。 These guys who make big money on productivity all seem to float the same ideas in different packaging。 He even literally took terms and gave them new names for no reason。 Maybe that's just what happens when your success is connected to constantly churning out "content"。 But if you don't explore this sort of thing already, this book is pretty alright。The system Not bad, but this was padded considerably and regurgitates a lot of the same points you'll find in other books and articles of this type。 These guys who make big money on productivity all seem to float the same ideas in different packaging。 He even literally took terms and gave them new names for no reason。 Maybe that's just what happens when your success is connected to constantly churning out "content"。 But if you don't explore this sort of thing already, this book is pretty alright。The system and habits he sets up here are easy to understand and follow。 The focus on behavioral and neurological research is neat, but it's not presented with a lot of depth。 I question whether everything is so cut-and-dry, but I don't care enough to check his sources and find out。In the end, it's a pretty compelling way of approaching focus and work, but it could have been an article。 。。。more

Really a great book on productivity, and the attention。 The shiny screened device "out smartphone" is the killer of our productivity and creativity。 At the starting of the book the auther says that if you want to focus in your life just put away that little miracle of technology while you are working。 Book revolves around how we do hyperfocus and how we get distracted。 And that distraction is affecting our overall productivity thorought our days and eventualy life。 If you have noticed in recent Really a great book on productivity, and the attention。 The shiny screened device "out smartphone" is the killer of our productivity and creativity。 At the starting of the book the auther says that if you want to focus in your life just put away that little miracle of technology while you are working。 Book revolves around how we do hyperfocus and how we get distracted。 And that distraction is affecting our overall productivity thorought our days and eventualy life。 If you have noticed in recent times or ask your elder who are in their 50s, we never get bored nowadays。 Out attention is always directed to somethig and whaterver is left we fill that with out phone whether it is social media, videos or anything。 People unlocks their phones hudreds of times in single day。 That is too much attention we are giving to one devices。 If you really want to be creative and productive in life use your smart phone samrtly。 There are lot of little things that we can improve if we actually implement this book。 One thing I would like to write here : After reading this book I started putting my phone away while I am working, not always but whenerver possible。 Pluse before this book I used to read lot of news which is nothing much of useful information, I started keeping my phone away and I can feel the less stress througout the day。 I would recommand this book to everybody。 After all we become what we give attention to。 Have a good reading。 。。。more

Learned something new; hyperfocus and scattered focus。 Both are equally important。 Didn't learn anything new in terms of things I could do to improve my productivity。 The author emphasizes a fair bit of thought based memory instead of using notes。 As a person with vision loss, auditory and thought based memory is my normal。 For other people, this can be a challenge。 Learned something new; hyperfocus and scattered focus。 Both are equally important。 Didn't learn anything new in terms of things I could do to improve my productivity。 The author emphasizes a fair bit of thought based memory instead of using notes。 As a person with vision loss, auditory and thought based memory is my normal。 For other people, this can be a challenge。 。。。more

This book is full of useful, interesting, and applicable insights and advice on how to be more productive whilst also being realistic with true helpful productivity and the need to adopt “scatter focus” too。

Read the book twice now。 The first time Chris Bailey introduced two interesting concepts, "Hyperfocus" and "Scatterfocus"。 The book made me really excited about focusing at work and even at home but after a while I forgot about the book and the advice it gave me。 The second time I read the book, I took action with the tips and tricks, which meant that the book had even more value to me。 What I especially loved about the book is that Chris Bailey takes his point of view in the story, which means Read the book twice now。 The first time Chris Bailey introduced two interesting concepts, "Hyperfocus" and "Scatterfocus"。 The book made me really excited about focusing at work and even at home but after a while I forgot about the book and the advice it gave me。 The second time I read the book, I took action with the tips and tricks, which meant that the book had even more value to me。 What I especially loved about the book is that Chris Bailey takes his point of view in the story, which means that he shows really good examples with his tips and tricks。 My advice, read the book if you really plan on taking action instead of just reading it out of interest。 。。。more

Read this book cause of Thomas Frank's video on it and it looked interesting, pretty decent book but if you're looking for something focus/productivity related I'd recommend Deep Work by Cal Newport and Atomic Habits by James Clear over this one。 Read this book cause of Thomas Frank's video on it and it looked interesting, pretty decent book but if you're looking for something focus/productivity related I'd recommend Deep Work by Cal Newport and Atomic Habits by James Clear over this one。 。。。more

There are some good hints in this book about hyperfocus, and its counterpart scatterfocus。 The idea of attentional space is helpful。 Your mind only holds so much。 So guard your attention well。 It's a quick read, and easy to get through。 Book gets repetitive after you understand the basic concepts however。 There are some good hints in this book about hyperfocus, and its counterpart scatterfocus。 The idea of attentional space is helpful。 Your mind only holds so much。 So guard your attention well。 It's a quick read, and easy to get through。 Book gets repetitive after you understand the basic concepts however。 。。。more

Hyperfocus is a psychiatric condition found in adhd and autism spectrum。 It cannot be directed by intention because its regulated by emotions, not thougths。 Hyperfocus can be a bleesing or a course, and this book has nothing to do with it。

I really need to stop reading self help - honestly, didn't even bother to finish this one。This book picks well-known ideas from Buddhist meditation and neuroscience, and then repeats them endlessly。 If you meditate regularly, then this book contains nothing that you aren't already aware of。 I really need to stop reading self help - honestly, didn't even bother to finish this one。This book picks well-known ideas from Buddhist meditation and neuroscience, and then repeats them endlessly。 If you meditate regularly, then this book contains nothing that you aren't already aware of。 。。。more

I enjoyed the book very much。 It provided me some great insights of how I approach and feel about work and creativity。 As instructed by the author, I took notes along the way and I plan to review it further ahead! Although it is repetitive, this is good for absorbing the information。 It has a great scientific base (with bibliography!)

This was fine。 I will likely forget about in a few days because I found my mind wandering so much while reading this (ironic!)。 I think my problem was that I couldn’t quite find the tonal balance between the theoretical/psychological side and the more practical applications aside from the relatively basic “make your space less distracting” and “learn to meditate” suggestions。 Similarly, it got a bit sanctimonious near the end as the author discussed the value of certain types of media。 While I d This was fine。 I will likely forget about in a few days because I found my mind wandering so much while reading this (ironic!)。 I think my problem was that I couldn’t quite find the tonal balance between the theoretical/psychological side and the more practical applications aside from the relatively basic “make your space less distracting” and “learn to meditate” suggestions。 Similarly, it got a bit sanctimonious near the end as the author discussed the value of certain types of media。 While I don’t have any squabble with his views of social media, I would argue that what he considers “useless yet entertaining novels and movies” actually can have a lot of value in terms in storytelling and empathy。 I guess he might rebut that if you can assign value to it, then it is in fact useful, but I worry that offhand characterizations might make someone new to the personal development world take his word for it and not evaluate his or her own relationships with learning and media。 Overall, I would probably recommend this to someone starting out on their productivity journey, but I didn’t get much from this one。 (Also, still not over the fact that he rips out the first page of a book to use as a bookmark like an utter BARBARIAN)。 。。。more
