Summary

I am a Weyward, and wild inside。

2019: Under cover of darkness, Kate flees London for ramshackle Weyward Cottage, inherited from a great aunt she barely remembers。 With its tumbling ivy and overgrown garden, the cottage is worlds away from the abusive partner who tormented Kate。 But she begins to suspect that her great aunt had a secret。 One that lurks in the bones of the cottage, hidden ever since the witch-hunts of the 17th century。

1619: Altha is awaiting trial for the murder of a local farmer who was stampeded to death by his herd。 As a girl, Altha’s mother taught her their magic, a kind not rooted in spell casting but in a deep knowledge of the natural world。 But unusual women have always been deemed dangerous, and as the evidence for witchcraft is set out against Altha, she knows it will take all of her powers to maintain her freedom。

1942: As World War II rages, Violet is trapped in her family's grand, crumbling estate。 Straitjacketed by societal convention, she longs for the robust education her brother receives––and for her mother, long deceased, who was rumored to have gone mad before her death。 The only traces Violet has of her are a locket bearing the initial W and the word weyward scratched into the baseboard of her bedroom。

Weaving together the stories of three extraordinary women across five centuries, Emilia Hart's Weyward is an enthralling novel of female resilience and the transformative power of the natural world。

This book is well- written and incorporates nature well, but is honestly a little boring。 It’s labeled as magical realism, but there is no magic until the very end, so I was pretty bored throughout the story。 It was honestly a bit repetitive and just not my thing at all。 I could see how other people would really like it, but it was just not at all what I expected and really not for me。 That said, there’s nothing ~bad~ about it per se。

Key themes to consider before reading: feminism, being a woman forced to bear the child of someone you don’t like, and herbal medicine lolSpanning across 3 generations!!

3。5-4 starsA solid debut。 Read if you like magical realism, naturalism, witches, multiple pov’s / timelines and fierce women! Many trigger warnings (violence against women)。 The lower rating is because it was a bit overwritten at times。 Just a little dense with descriptive language。 I look forward to Hart’s next work!

While I enjoy the idea of books with intersecting timelines, sometimes I struggle to stay interested in them。 That was not the case with this one。 Each plotline was very clear and the pace was such that I didn't find myself forgetting what was going on by the time I got back to it。 I loved all three main characters and the connection between them that was eventually revealed, and the historical fiction aspect of it was very well written。 I was definitely impressed with this book and will be look While I enjoy the idea of books with intersecting timelines, sometimes I struggle to stay interested in them。 That was not the case with this one。 Each plotline was very clear and the pace was such that I didn't find myself forgetting what was going on by the time I got back to it。 I loved all three main characters and the connection between them that was eventually revealed, and the historical fiction aspect of it was very well written。 I was definitely impressed with this book and will be looking for more from this author! 。。。more

My first 2023 release! Emilia Hart writes such beautiful prose and I love how the three POV storylines weave together。 I’m such a sucker for alternating perspectives。 There were times where the characters felt a little one-dimensional or where the plot felt too simple, but for all that this was a wonderful, heart-warming story about the power of women and their relationships with each other。 10/10 would recommend!

What a book, 4。5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but 5 on Goodreads because it’s worth it!I absolutely loved this story。 A story of love, uniqueness, family and perseverance。 The book follows three women through different time periods, and yet the three of them are connected somehow。I figured out the connection early on (were supposed to) and I had an idea of what the ending would be, but not once was I bored by that knowledge。 I could not put the book down。 Each woman was strong and formidable and I was rooting for e What a book, 4。5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but 5 on Goodreads because it’s worth it!I absolutely loved this story。 A story of love, uniqueness, family and perseverance。 The book follows three women through different time periods, and yet the three of them are connected somehow。I figured out the connection early on (were supposed to) and I had an idea of what the ending would be, but not once was I bored by that knowledge。 I could not put the book down。 Each woman was strong and formidable and I was rooting for each of them。 My only slight issue is I feel I didn’t get a proper ending for one of the women and even though I’m sure I know what happened, I still would have preferred a proper ending for her as opposed to being left guessing。I also loved the tie to nature in this book, because I also love nature - birds, trees, flowers and bees。 Such a beautiful story and different than what I normally read。 I really enjoyed this story and I can’t wait to see what Hart comes up with next! 。。。more

Three generations of women living in England, one from the early 1600s, another from WWII-era, and the last from the present, are confronting their innate power in the face of patriarchal systems that seek to suppress them。 From witch trials to reproductive health laws, parallels can be made throughout history on how men seek to control female bodies。 The three women we meet are each fully realized with compelling stories that kept me listening。 Each woman is presented by a different narrator, e Three generations of women living in England, one from the early 1600s, another from WWII-era, and the last from the present, are confronting their innate power in the face of patriarchal systems that seek to suppress them。 From witch trials to reproductive health laws, parallels can be made throughout history on how men seek to control female bodies。 The three women we meet are each fully realized with compelling stories that kept me listening。 Each woman is presented by a different narrator, each with their own distinctive voice, which made it very easy to keep the stories separate, even as they wove together。 A bit of a lean into thriller-like writing distracted me toward the end, but overall I found the characters to be beautifully written and full of interest。 。。。more

This is one my most anticipated reads of 2023 and it didn't disappoint。 Historical fiction about three generations of the Weyward women who all connect with their gifts to empower and protect themselves from those who would destroy them。 Loved it! My only criticism is in the writing style, which did have slow points throughout the novel that I wouldn't have expected in a 320ish page book。 Absolutely not a deal breaker, but might be an issue for people who need lots of action! 。。。more

I devoured this book and enjoyed the three POV set in different timeframes。 The writing was lovely and propelling。 However, I thought the men were written obscenely and unrealistically awful。 There were only two decent male characters and even then, the author refused to consider that they could be helpful and understanding。

This is a beautiful book! I cannot believe this is a debut from the author。It’s a gorgeous combination of women’s fiction, historical fiction and a little sprinkle of fantasy realism。 It’s truly an enchanting exploration through time about the power of female resilience and love through generations。

5,000 stars。 This is the kind of book that you’ll think about for months, maybe years to come。 The prose was beautiful。 The story was long but never really dragged。 The 3 generations of stories were easy to keep track of and mirrored each other so well。 I loved this book so much, I want to write it on my heart forever。 The perfect book about feminine rage and the love and protection that women bring to each other。Trigger warnings: sexual assault

I’ve always been drawn to stories with multiple timelines across several generations, and this novel was no exception。 What was unique, however, was the author’s ability to craft an intricate storyline that kept me engaged to the very end without being too complex that I lost interest。 Novels that include references to witch trials can become trite and repetitive very quickly, so I appreciated a different take on this part of history。 I devoured this book in 2 days and am looking forward to read I’ve always been drawn to stories with multiple timelines across several generations, and this novel was no exception。 What was unique, however, was the author’s ability to craft an intricate storyline that kept me engaged to the very end without being too complex that I lost interest。 Novels that include references to witch trials can become trite and repetitive very quickly, so I appreciated a different take on this part of history。 I devoured this book in 2 days and am looking forward to reading more from this author。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this story。 The way the 3 POVs intertwine to create the story and how history can somewhat repeat and how family traits intertwine through the generations and the power of women Weyward or not。 We all have a little Weyward within us。 We are all a little wild。

Thank you to the publisher for the gifted e-copy。I don't know what to say except the following:HOW is this a debut? It was absolutely amazing。The triple POV flows seamlessly。 I usually become invested in one of the POV and want to skip just to that, but I was equally invested in all three。 I loved all three of the women and their stories。 They were connected perfectly, and I did not want any of their stories to end。The magical realism was extremely well done。 I thought the three different time p Thank you to the publisher for the gifted e-copy。I don't know what to say except the following:HOW is this a debut? [3+]。 A fast moving, engaging novel about 3 women in different time periods, each finding their power while fighting back against abusive men。 Multiple timelines often frustrate me and this one felt particularly jumpy。 I barely settled in before I was pulled away - again and again。 As beautiful and original as the cover is, the story felt like a recasting of a Alice Hoffman novel。
