Summary

My role as Moric—ruler of a small and prosperous fiefdom in a quiet corner of the world—has always been painfully dull and stifling。

Until a beautiful, otherworldly creature with pink skin and a mane of golden hair falls through a strange void that has appeared in my guestroom。

And I am instantly captivated by him。

I have never seen anything like him。 I have no idea where he came from, and what else is through that unsettling void—another world filled with soft-skinned, defenceless creatures like him? No tails, no horns, no claws, no sharp teeth。 Tiny clothing, rounded ears, bright blue eyes。 He is fascinating。 And I want to keep him。

But I have no idea how my citizens and councillors will react to his presence—to the knowledge that a whole other world exists, and there is a portal to it in my guestroom。 As much as I try to keep him my secret, the truth starts to slip out。

And those in my fiefdom who cling desperately onto power do their best to tear us apart。 To take him from me。

I won’t let them。

Older than humans anyway。 I was surprised that the extra 30 years age difference is never mentioned。 So, is this not an issue? (hide spoiler)]All in all, a fabulous addition to the series, and I can’t wait to find out Lyri and Cat’s story。Also find the overall arch of the series and how so many details fit together really fabulous。 。。。more

3。5I really don't know how to rate this。 So yeah。 I loved most of it, but I despised a good chunk of it too。 Maybe "despised" is the wrong word, but Lily Mayne chose a few tropes that, in my world, have no place in a romance novel。But yeah。 First of all, the good:The first 60% of "Lor" was absolutely lovely。 A bit slow maybe, but I still loved it。 I adored the monster world setting: it was so fascinating and so clever。 I also loved the whole cast of main and side characters。 I admit, Jugs remain 3。5I really don't know how to rate this。 So yeah。 I loved most of it, but I despised a good chunk of it too。 Maybe "despised" is the wrong word, but Lily Mayne chose a few tropes that, in my world, have no place in a romance novel。But yeah。 First of all, the good:The first 60% of "Lor" was absolutely lovely。 A bit slow maybe, but I still loved it。 I adored the monster world setting: it was so fascinating and so clever。 I also loved the whole cast of main and side characters。 I admit, Jugs remained a bit underdeveloped as a MC because most of the story is told through Lor's POV and because of *insert spoilery, despicable trope here* reasons。Lor was a wonderful protagonist though and I LOVED him: he's so sweet and insecure and shy and endearing and lovely。 I loved being in his head。 And all the side characters? Absolutely iconic。 Lyri already owns my soul and I cannot wait to read his book and discover his adventures and how, precisely, he ends up meeting Cat。 All the other characters were equally precious! We meet a lot of new monster species too, and I wonder about a certain sneaky, giant, warmongering bastard。I also loved seeing the monster apocalypse from the monster's world point of view and I'm so excited to see what will happen after that last chapter。Why 3。5 stars then?If there's one thing I despise in my romances is (view spoiler)[ time jumps and the agonizingly horrific "seperated for years and years because of *reasons*" trope。 I hate it so, so much。 It makes me angry, frustrated and unspeakably sad。 Lor spends THIRTY YEARS without Jugs, because he's in a stasis, TEN YEARS without Lyri and I hated every moment。 It was so, so unfair and so cruel。 I understand that, from a series-wide plot point of view, it makes sense。 This way, Lor and Jugs' story joins up with the rest of the monstrous couples' stories and especially, Lyri and Cat's。 But I still hated it。 I skimmed a good 30% of the book: I couldn't wait to be finished。 So yeah, that was disappointing。 (hide spoiler)]I still loved good chunks of "Lor", and of course, the last few chapters where we finally get to witness their much-awaited HEA。I'm still BEYOND excited to read Lyri's book: I honestly can't wait, especially considering what happens in that last chapter。 。。。more

Mabs sake! This one gave me all the feels。 I was laughing, crying, steaming and internally screaming。 Did I even think there would be an 80’s influenced male whole shared a story with a beautiful blue monster? Nope, but I am sooooo happy we got one。 This was everything I never knew I need in my life。 I’m so happy to have read Lor and Jugs story。 It’s getting harder and harder to have favorites in this series when all of the characters are amazing。 I cannot wait for the next one!!

The book is pretty much just 3/4 porn and 1/4 actual plot that doesn't really pick up until the end。 That being said, it's very well written porn so。。。 Either way it's different from the others in the series, but still adds to the main plot a little。 It was cool to see how the monsters' world works。 The book is pretty much just 3/4 porn and 1/4 actual plot that doesn't really pick up until the end。 That being said, it's very well written porn so。。。 Either way it's different from the others in the series, but still adds to the main plot a little。 It was cool to see how the monsters' world works。 。。。more

This boon easily trumps the rest of the books in the series, there is just a more romantic tension between the two main characters (which both have great character in their own right - dual pov is always the right way to go), a retro vibe (I love the 80s) and a "I will wait forever on you" trope - it's not explained particularly how it's happened and the poisoning is a bit obvious but nonetheless it was fun (? I cried) and made me feel things。 It really explored the world the characters were in This boon easily trumps the rest of the books in the series, there is just a more romantic tension between the two main characters (which both have great character in their own right - dual pov is always the right way to go), a retro vibe (I love the 80s) and a "I will wait forever on you" trope - it's not explained particularly how it's happened and the poisoning is a bit obvious but nonetheless it was fun (? This book was honestly just a lot of fun - with lots of golden retriever/himbo energy! Lor and Jugs were a fun couple, and the set up was done so well that I didn’t mind the almost insta-love connection that the two had。 Set in the 80s up until modern day, the book gives us a little bit of a glimpse into the monster world both before and after the tear opened and how Lor’s particular corner of the world is set up and all the politics involved in that。 We already had a glimpse of Lor’s fiefdom in This book was honestly just a lot of fun - with lots of golden retriever/himbo energy! In this book we get the background and the build up of not only Lor’s relationship with Jugs but also what the story is with Lyri and Cat - two characters that have cast a shadow over the series for the last couple of books, and the taster we get at the end is enough to drive you crazy waiting! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for our monster gang。 For Jugs and Lor, some of their relationship is built on a lot of convenient plot devices, but there is a real sweetness between the two of them that I just adored。 There is an element of comfort that the two provide each other that remains steadfast throughout the book, and even when they turn romantic that comfort and trust is the core of their relationship。 Jugs is a big ol’ himbo and gives off such a fun energy, even with quite a bit of trouble in his backstory。 It is a bit convenient how it all worked out to allow him to move to the monster realm in the first place, but honestly when you’re reading it you can give the book a lot of leeway。 For Lor I don’t know what the author fully wanted from his character - he works best as one of the heroes in romance focused book with light details, but there was this persistent framing of him as almost a political fantasy hero, which missed the mark as we just weren’t given enough background and world building for it to fully work - the light political thriller aspects we got in the book/world really work best as a frame for the romance。 The book really shines in the romance between Lor and Jugs and the angonising angst that was the time jump to the current day - poor Lor deserves the world! 。。。more

This one flashes back to the 1980’s set in the monster world when a human falls through the first rift between worlds, right into his guest room。 This book was really long, and I was tempted to give it 4。5 stars because it had a lot of over-explained prose like some of the early books。 However, she was explaining a whole new world with a story that had a lot of ground to cover。 I was so into it。 I was also really impressed that she basically wrote something that could be a standalone 7 books dee This one flashes back to the 1980’s set in the monster world when a human falls through the first rift between worlds, right into his guest room。 This book was really long, and I was tempted to give it 4。5 stars because it had a lot of over-explained prose like some of the early books。 However, she was explaining a whole new world with a story that had a lot of ground to cover。 I was so into it。 I was also really impressed that she basically wrote something that could be a standalone 7 books deep but with lots of origin details, as well。 This book did not go how I thought it would。 I cried。 A lot。 Lor’s steadfast devotion for his sweet 80’s himbo mushed up my heart。 And he had so much character growth。 I loved it。 These books just keep getting better and better。 。。。more

LOR was another excellent addition to the MONSTROUS series and I loved that we got to see more of the monster world as well as what happened for the monsters when the voids to the human world opened。 Lor and Jugs were both really likable characters and they were both such soft, sweet people。 They were both lonely in their own ways but against all odds they found a connection with each other。 I also thought it was really interesting to see monsters discovering humans for the first time because so LOR was another excellent addition to the MONSTROUS series and I loved that we got to see more of the monster world as well as what happened for the monsters when the voids to the human world opened。 Lor and Jugs were both really likable characters and they were both such soft, sweet people。 They were both lonely in their own ways but against all odds they found a connection with each other。 I also thought it was really interesting to see monsters discovering humans for the first time because some of Lor's interpretations and assumptions about Jugs and humans were pretty entertaining。 All of the monster romance I've read in the past has had monsters that are already aware of humans so this made for a nice change of pace。While LOR was still plenty spicy it also had a softer feel to the romance because both Jugs and Lor are such cinnamon rolls and they both care so deeply。 They fall quickly for each other but their journey is not easy。 This was a long read because it covers a lot of time, starting 20 years before the monsters crossed over and then eventually catching up to the events of the last book, SERPAH。 Lor especially goes through a lot of emotional trauma throughout this book and my heart was breaking for him。While I loved most of LOR, I do feel like the separation for Jugs and Lor was unnecessarily long and went well past what was reasonable。 It felt too much like trauma for the sake of trauma and not because it actually added anything to the story。 That being said, I am glad that we got a good number of chapters after their reunited so that we could see them healing as a couple after everything they went through。I can't wait to read Lyri's story (Lor's brother) and see what happens next in this series!Content Warning: past death of a parent; unexplainable illness; grief and depression- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Favorite Quotes:Releasing his hand, I splayed my trembling fingers over his chest。 “My heart is in here now。 Not with me。 I will be empty without you。”- - - - -Lifting our joined hands, he pressed my fingertips to his mouth—to the ring piercing his lower lip。 “This means that I will never want anyone else。 My mouth will never touch another。 I will never speak ill of you。 Your name is the first thing I want to pass my lips every morning and the last thing I say every night。”- - - - -“You don’t have to do anything for me,” I mumbled, feeling overwhelmed。 “I just want you。”“You have me,” he breathed, wrapping his arms back around my neck and hugging me tight。 I felt his lips move against my skin as he said, “From the moment we met, you have had me。”- - - - -I cherished every single moment I had with him, even the moments when we were simply existing within each other’s space, not doing anything of note。 Perhaps I cherished those moments the most。 。。。more

It was nice to see everything that was going on from the other side, and the 80s vibe was fun。 I knew what was coming, and it still gave me sad feels for the title character。

This pains me so much。 The Monstrous series is one of my all-time faves and I loved every book that came out。。。 until this one。 Was it bad? No。 Was it too long and boring? Yes, yes it was。 It was 200 pages too long and too much waffling and sitting in meetings and whatnot。 The last start of the book was good, and the last quarter was great as well but in the middle。。。well, that was a lot of filler! This feels a bit like a filler book to bridge over to Lyris book who I can't wait to read more abou This pains me so much。 The Monstrous series is one of my all-time faves and I loved every book that came out。。。 until this one。 Was it bad? Potential to be my favorite book in the series holy SHIT❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️Lor and Jugs are just adorable, and so sweet together。 This book is full of God damn PAIN but the HEA is believable, heartbreaking-ly good, and made me stay up all night as I tried desperately to get to it lmao。 Worth it。The writing is gorgeous!!! Mayne's writing has always been wonderful to read, but Lor's pov is just so lyrical, so endearing, it made this book completely unique to the others in the series。 I loved seeing the mon Potential to be my favorite book in the series holy SHIT❗️❗️❗️❗️❗️Lor and Jugs are just adorable, and so sweet together。 This book is full of God damn PAIN but the HEA is believable, heartbreaking-ly good, and made me stay up all night as I tried desperately to get to it lmao。 Worth it。The writing is gorgeous!!! (That being said pls read in order it just makes the little cameos all the more beautiful; yes I'm talking about Wyn and his little note to the Moric) 。。。more
