Listen🎧Would have given it a 3。5。 It is the first book of a series。 Good news I did not figure out who the killer was。 Bad new I did not feel any real attachmentto the characters。 Might try reading the next book in the series。

A genuine page turner full of intriguing people & especially the place。 Can’t write of the resolution but I felt satisfied at the completion。 I do love Vera Stanhope as a character & all team。 Love how Ann Cleeves gives us plenty of time to get to understand the characters & their back story。 Look up Lindisfarne before you begin this fine crime novel。

I can’t even give this a partial star it was so offensive。 The fat shaming in this book is appalling。 The main character is fat and slovenly， and the message is that in spite of this， she’s a good detective。 I would have hoped we were past this kind of blatant body shaming。

With Vera， Ann Cleeves has created an interesting and varied detective。 She also is very good at evoking the region of England， Northumberland。 This was a mystery that I finished as rapidly as I could。 The ending was an emotional moment。 Mind you， it is still fictional police work， but a very satisfying addition to this series。
