Did I fail before I even got started? How many Night Burgers until I’m happy?

I read this whole novel under the delusion it was a memoir! I was awed by the candid nature of this 'memoir' and impressed that no matter how highly annoying Maggie was in this episode of her life, she was prepared to let the world know, instead of letting herself off lightly。 I was also worried at times about how her friends would feel when they read her memoir and saw what she had written about them。 Anyway, that all aside this is a very entertaining read, inspired by Monica's life。 I read this whole novel under the delusion it was a memoir! Not my cup of tea

Really awful!! Zero stars。 This was just so bad。 I really detested Maggie and did not enjoy reading about her depressing, downward spiral。 This book was blurred as being "hilarious, heartwarming and wise" and was the furthest from that。 Wish I didn't waste my time on this one。 Really awful!! This was a ride。 I’d go from laughing out loud to cringing to heartbreak and back again。 I’m down for an unlikeable protagonist but Maggie had moments that were a bit too much。 Maybe she’s just too human?

Christine

Not a fan of the stream of consciousness, young neurotic and unlikable divorcee。

Mathilde

Did not enjoy the main character。。 the book is really funny in certain places, but overall I found it too long and dragging。 I couldn’t relate to the emotional, manic, irrational, impulsive Maggie。

I was really excited for this book and it started off very strong。 I listened as an audiobook and in the beginning I would frequently chuckle out loud, which is always the sign of a good audiobook。 However as it kept going, I started to feel depressed listening to the main character’s journey with so few kernels of hope。 What started as feeling real started feeling a bit pathetic。 I think the overall journey and progression was strong, it was just too long in the middle, and listening to it augm I was really excited for this book and it started off very strong。 I listened as an audiobook and in the beginning I would frequently chuckle out loud, which is always the sign of a good audiobook。 However as it kept going, I started to feel depressed listening to the main character’s journey with so few kernels of hope。 What started as feeling real started feeling a bit pathetic。 I think the overall journey and progression was strong, it was just too long in the middle, and listening to it augmented the feeling。 Would recommend more to read than listen to。 。。。more

Like reading my diary from 6 years ago。 This one may not hit the same if you haven’t actually been divorced, but for me it was incredibly (and at times painfully) accurate。

Light and fun, just the kind of read I needed and found myself more invested than I thought I would be。 Deals with a woman in her late 20s going through a divorce, coming to terms with her life, who she is and throwing herself into the dreaded world of dating。

Amy

The author did a nice job of creating authentic characters and painting the very bleak picture of what divorce looks and feels like。 It was definitely an escape and held my attention。

I don't know if I didn't like the book or just the main character。 She was so insufferable I couldn't wait to be done with her。 I don't know if I didn't like the book or just the main character。 She was so insufferable I couldn't wait to be done with her。 。。。more

I almost gave up on this book a few times。 I persevered and struggled to finish it。 There were witty parts but was lack luster for the most part。 A cute cover cost me $27。99。

If you've ever been in a massive breakup or just feel like your life is an embarrassing mess, then this book might just be the thing for you。。 If you've ever been in a massive breakup or just feel like your life is an embarrassing mess, then this book might just be the thing for you。。 。。。more

The audiobook was great to listen to and probably made the book better to digest。 I wanted to hate Maggie but maybe she just hits too close to home lol

Bridget

This book was mostly negative。 I feel as though the author was trying to be funny and relatable but just seemed to have missed the mark。

This book wasn’t for me。 I found it too boring early on and I decided not to continue reading。 I don’t feel comfortable rating books that I don’t complete。

I actually really liked this novel and I didn't think I would。 It was funny, but poignant。 Very deep and sad, but so real and raw。 I actually really liked this novel and I didn't think I would。 It was funny, but poignant。 Very deep and sad, but so real and raw。 。。。more

A hysterical, uplifting look at the life of a woman who really wasn't planning on divorce before 30。 This book wasn't perfect--the pacing and tone wasn't entirely consistent--but it was pretty delightful and relatable。 Even as a woman who has never been in her shoes, I enjoyed her outlook and her commentary。 Kind of made me think of Helen Fielding and Bridget Jones' Diary。 A hysterical, uplifting look at the life of a woman who really wasn't planning on divorce before 30。 This book wasn't perfect--the pacing and tone wasn't entirely consistent--but it was pretty delightful and relatable。 Even as a woman who has never been in her shoes, I enjoyed her outlook and her commentary。 Kind of made me think of Helen Fielding and Bridget Jones' Diary。 。。。more

I wanted to like this book but it dragged。 There were many opportunities for it to end and it just wouldn't。 Its also very depressing。 I only recommend it if you need a good cry。 I wanted to like this book but it dragged。 There were many opportunities for it to end and it just wouldn't。 Its also very depressing。 I only recommend it if you need a good cry。 。。。more

probably close to 2。5 ⭐️this novel felt more like a bunch of personal diary entries and essays stuck together。 I’m all for narration and description, but the characters kind of felt flat and nothing really ✨happens✨ in this book which is unfortunate。

Shelbie

I normally like this genre but the main character became so annoying and unlikable and I just got so tired of listening to her go on and on。 It started alright, the middle was awful, ended decent。

Kelly Niehaus

Loved the eriting style--its a combination of brain dumps, texts, google searches, etc。 Although Maggie is going through a divorce, there are pieces of this book every woman can relate to。

I chose this book as an add-on through BOTM because it seemed interesting。 Who wouldn't enjoy a post-breakup book about a woman discovering herself and beginning her journey as a single woman? Well, it sounded great initially :(This book was。。。 not good。 I enjoyed the book the first 100-125 pages, but then it just fell so flat。 The writing style was hard to enjoy because we were stuck in the main character's head the whole time。 I felt for her because she was struggling with the breakup, but she I chose this book as an add-on through BOTM because it seemed interesting。 Who wouldn't enjoy a post-breakup book about a woman discovering herself and beginning her journey as a single woman? I wanted to like this book more, because I actually share a lot of personal similarities with her way of thinking at times, but more often than not I just thought she was whiny and self-deprecating with little (if any) actual development or growth by the end。

Shivani Gonzalez

Ughhh I really wanted to love it and I did for the first half but by the second half it was just grating and finishing it felt like a chore

Rory Jansen

You know those Ben Stiller movies where everything goes wrong and he continues to make bad decisions that further the awfulness and you just cringe the whole time? That is this book。The writing was okay, but the Maggie character was a trite narcissist that is completely unrelatable。

Christy Lodder

DNFI had to stop reading because I was just so bored。 At first I was drawn in and thought the humor in the writing was great but then I realized there is no plot。 I wasn’t willing to trudge through almost 400 pages of the same thing so I gave up on this one。 I gave it 2 stars instead of one because maybe this book is really cathartic for people going through divorce, I wouldn’t know。

Elissa

Unbearable at times (character), love a long journey。

This book feels like reading your friends diary after a bad breakup except it’s that one friend who is mildly self obsessed and extremely emotionally immature - so at first it’s fun and entertaining, but then it starts to grate on you and you’re like ugh shut up about yourself already, and then it gets slightly pathetic but also really sad and you’re just hoping she finally seeks some help, and eventually it comes back around to being fun but now in a kind of heartwarming way。 And still at the e This book feels like reading your friends diary after a bad breakup except it’s that one friend who is mildly self obsessed and extremely emotionally immature - so at first it’s fun and entertaining, but then it starts to grate on you and you’re like ugh shut up about yourself already, and then it gets slightly pathetic but also really sad and you’re just hoping she finally seeks some help, and eventually it comes back around to being fun but now in a kind of heartwarming way。 And still at the end of all that you’re kind of like, wait, what what even happened in this story? So anyway, fun read !! 。。。more
