Ahdieh nailed a lot of things with this book -- it had beautiful world building without being overwhelming, the enemies to lovers plot was great and the romance was steamy, the story itself was fast paced and dark。 There were a few minor things that I didn't love, and maybe that's just me being nit-picky, but I felt like the wingmen for the main guys in the love triangle were a little too similar (if you put Jalal and Rahim in a room together I would not be able to tell them apart), I felt like Ahdieh nailed a lot of things with this book -- it had beautiful world building without being overwhelming, the enemies to lovers plot was great and the romance was steamy, the story itself was fast paced and dark。 There were a few minor things that I didn't love, and maybe that's just me being nit-picky, but I felt like the wingmen for the main guys in the love triangle were a little too similar (if you put Jalal and Rahim in a room together I would not be able to tell them apart), I felt like Shiva didn't get enough page-time (which led to me being unable to form an emotional attachment to her and that's kinda a big deal in the story?!), and the back and forth between Khalid and Shazi got a little bit redundant at times (more a complaint on a slow burn I guess)。 Overall, I really liked Shazi a lot and felt that at all times she maintained her independence and power。 Very excited to read the sequel!!! 。。。more

I honestly thought I wouldn't like this at first because I read the webtoon version。 WORST PREDICTION BECAUSE I LOVED THIS BOOK! It is sooo much better than I could ever imagine。 I love the writing style, showing the thoughts of characters makes it easy for me to visualise the relationships between them。 10/10。 However, it is important to note that Shahrzad and Khalid are not the best of couples in terms of a healthy relationship。 This marriage was started by hate, but, it does grow into a love。 I honestly thought I wouldn't like this at first because I read the webtoon version。 WORST PREDICTION BECAUSE I LOVED THIS BOOK!

I've just finished this and I have to say it took me longer than usual to finish it。 It is a really good story with interesting characters。 The female lead has a backbone and is not afraid to stand up for herself which is refreshing。 It was pretty slow at parts and I thought the different POV's were a bit jumpy at some points (although they were necessary), there also wasn't much world-building and it seems like the author is constantly leaving clues as to magic and the such, but there is never I've just finished this and I have to say it took me longer than usual to finish it。 It is a really good story with interesting characters。 The female lead has a backbone and is not afraid to stand up for herself which is refreshing。 It was pretty slow at parts and I thought the different POV's were a bit jumpy at some points (although they were necessary), there also wasn't much world-building and it seems like the author is constantly leaving clues as to magic and the such, but there is never any real explanation for any of it, which I hope I'll find in the second book, otherwise that will be a bit disappointing。 Some of the narrative also wasn't very clear, and I was sometimes unsure as to what was actually happening。 I enjoyed the change of the usual setting to a middle east sort of environment, but again, there were enough things that make it seem like it could be real life, but the fantastical elements then confused me because of the reader's doubts and uncertainties about it are never addressed。 Ultimately, the first book is left on a cliffhanger, leaving me with many questions that didn't solely regard what would happen next。 I will read the next one and hope to get my questions answered :) 。。。more

*3。75*I’m so mad because I really loved this book but I have to give it a 3。75。 I loved her writing, I loved the plot, I loved our main character Shazi; I couldn’t put it down! But the one thing I could not get over was how underdeveloped her relationship with Khalid was。 IT WAS SO UNBELIEVABLE。 You’re telling me this girl concocted an entire revenge plot just to give it up as soon as McDreamy looks at her???? NOO。 Her internal dialogue was literally “He killed my best friend。。。but he’s so sexy。 *3。75*I’m so mad because I really loved this book but I have to give it a 3。75。 I loved her writing, I loved the plot, I loved our main character Shazi; I couldn’t put it down! I am a hoe for enemies to lovers don’t get me wrong, but there should have been a TON more lead up to them falling in love bc this was very frustrating to read。 I know we were given a hint that he was doing it for the greater good, but SHE didn’t know that so why was she able to give up her plan so easily for Mr。 Bland???? I’m sorry y’all but I’m on Tariq’s side for this one。 IN CONCLUSION will i be reading the next book?。。。。。。yes。。 。。。more

SPOILER WARNINGThis book has many different opinions but here I am seeking the truth。 I love books that so many people think differently about and so here I go。 Hopefully I will fly as I jump off the cliff and not perish into the deep underground。 Anyways enough with the dramatics let's get started。 So far so good, I like the defiance and the strength that she carries。"I will live to see tomorrow’s sunset。 Make no mistake。 I swear I will live to see as many sunsets as it takes。And I will kill yo SPOILER WARNINGThis book has many different opinions but here I am seeking the truth。 I love books that so many people think differently about and so here I go。 Hopefully I will fly as I jump off the cliff and not perish into the deep underground。 Anyways enough with the dramatics let's get started。 So far so good, I like the defiance and the strength that she carries。"I will live to see tomorrow’s sunset。 Make no mistake。 I swear I will live to see as many sunsets as it takes。And I will kill you。 With my own hands。"Let's see if she keeps that promise。 I like Tariq, the humor amazes me。 It made me laugh。 It's amazing the first chapter I felt pity and excitement, but now I feel happy and full of laughter。 Truly incredible。 HE'S GONNA FIGHT FOR HER。 OK ITS GETTING INTERESTING。 I also see how some people don't like the Arabian details but I love the details。 It makes the book so much more realistic。 Oh the defiance。 She's a really good story-teller she even got me entranced。 She got him as she got me。Ship= Despina and Jalal you cant say no。 BRO I LOVE TARIQ HIS DEFIANCE AND DETERMINATION TO SEE SHAZI IS EVERYTHING。 WHEN I READ THAT SHAZI SAW HIM I NEARLY FAINTED。 HE DID IT OUR BOY DID IT。 Ok now I am beyond confused about my own feelings。 Do I want her to be with Tariq or do I want her to be with Khalid。 It's so hard。 But the thing is she doesn't love him no more。 "I’m lost to him。 I can’t ignore it any longer。"-ShaziOk that's it I've made up my mind I ship her more with Khalid。 "Khalid’s features smoothed knowingly。 “How right you are。 You are notmine。” He dropped his palm from the door。 “I am yours。”"That is the line that made me fall for him like jump the cliff for him。I thought he was gonna kill her but I never imagined this。JALAL AND DESPINA! JALAL AND DESPINA! Something makes me love forbidden love y'know。 Ok first Reza making me want to kill him。 Second I am really hating Tariq but somehow I understand him。 Third I wanna know what happened between Jalal and Despina。 And finally the fourth, which is that I NEED Khalid and Shazi to be together again。The reason why I didn't give it five stars was probably because I wanted to see her fight Khalid or hurt him。 Y'know before they started getting feelings for each other。 Just a punch in his perfect, beautiful face would be fine。 。。。more

I really thought I would love this book。 I was promised it was great enemies to lovers story and instantly I was intrigued。 However。。。the romance was instant-love more than anything。 The main character (who everyone loves for a reason I still don't know) had a plan at the beginning - to get revenge on the king by marrying and then killing him。 But within three days, she was in love with him and vise versa。 I thought maybe there could be an interesting love triangle with the childhood best friend I really thought I would love this book。 I was promised it was great enemies to lovers story and instantly I was intrigued。 However。。。the romance was instant-love more than anything。 The main character (who everyone loves for a reason I still don't know) had a plan at the beginning - to get revenge on the king by marrying and then killing him。 But within three days, she was in love with him and vise versa。 I thought maybe there could be an interesting love triangle with the childhood best friend who turned up, but that fell through as well。 I have to say though, despite the poorly developed characters and the much-to-be-desired writing, the plot was fascinating。 I read this book very quickly because I was invested in the plot but little else。 The author seemed to have very great ideas and concepts but failed to execute them very well in my opinion。 。。。more

Bloody hell I am conflicted on what to rate this。 I didn’t hate it but I didn’t love it, so I assume that means I liked it。 I’m rating it 4 stars, because it’s not on the level of some of my 3/5, but it is definitely on the boundary。。。 On one hand it is rich with beautiful, atmospheric writing, but this writing shows how indecisive the main character is。 She chose to marry a man who killed her best friend - like wtf?

Welp, enjoyed this more than I thought I would and I definitley need to read the sequel!

way more of a romance than i was expecting。 so if you enjoy more plot-driven books, you prob won’t like this one。 it was very fast-paced bc there wasn’t a lot of world building needed, which i liked。 i think the relationship was kind of manipulative at times but also you kind of expect that from a fantasy enemies-to-lovers。 i’ve seen ppl recommend this a few times on booktok and i think it lived up to my expectations! so yay! i put the second book on hold but it’s like 10 weeks away lol thanks l way more of a romance than i was expecting。 so if you enjoy more plot-driven books, you prob won’t like this one。 it was very fast-paced bc there wasn’t a lot of world building needed, which i liked。 i think the relationship was kind of manipulative at times but also you kind of expect that from a fantasy enemies-to-lovers。 i’ve seen ppl recommend this a few times on booktok and i think it lived up to my expectations! so yay! i put the second book on hold but it’s like 10 weeks away lol thanks libby。 on that reading grind rn 🦾🦾 。。。more

“For nothing, not the sun, not the rain, not even the brightest star in the darkest sky, could compare to the wonder of you。”ahh i can’t。 the beginning was really slow at first。。。Khalid’s character development could have been much more than what was given thb。 it was kinda uneventful, wished more action happened in between the plot and relationships in characters。

This was so freakin good and that ending 😱😱😱My only complaint was that I though Shahrzad developed feelings for Khalid way too quickly but it’s honestly such a minor issue it didn’t impact my feelings on the rest of the book at all

I enjoyed this! A fast paced fantasy about forbidden love, I loved how much of a slow burn the romance was but ngl I was left wanting a bit more from the relationship aspect from the end。 This felt like the introduction to a bigger story rather than a full story in itself? There's a magic carpet for example, which played absolutely no role in the plot of this book 😂 The magic wasn't greatly explored, but then magic actually wasn't such a massive element of the story which is surprising for a fan I enjoyed this! This has officially become one of my favourite YA books, it was all I was hoping for and more: the characters, the setting, the storyline- they all gripped me! The protagonist, firstly, was one of my favourite characters in the book。 She was witty and really easy to get behind, and I loved the portions of the book from her POV。 I thought Ahdieh’s character work (possibly barring one minor character, but I won’t go into that) was extremely enjoyable and all of the ‘good’ characters were remarkabl This has officially become one of my favourite YA books, it was all I was hoping for and more: the characters, the setting, the storyline- they all gripped me! More like 3。5* Good, but a lack of world building at the start and not good enough to read the second。 There were a lot of good quotes but I can’t comprehend why Khalid was suddenly a love interest just because he looked pretty。 All the stars are for Jalal
