Summary

I don’t know anything about the Royal family。 I have never read any books on them or watched any movies or tv series。 I mean I know the basics。。 but if you asked me what Harry’s brother’s name is。。 I’d have to look it up。 No joke。 I know Princess Diana, and there’s a Kate, Phillip and idk Harry’s wife’s name。。 I can’t remember it。 Anyway, I was curious so I picked up this book, mostly because my heart aches for a child that lost their mother far too young。 This book was sad for me。 I do think he I don’t know anything about the Royal family。 I have never read any books on them or watched any movies or tv series。 I mean I know the basics。。 but if you asked me what Harry’s brother’s name is。。 I’d have to look it up。 No joke。 I know Princess Diana, and there’s a Kate, Phillip and idk Harry’s wife’s name。。 I can’t remember it。 Anyway, I was curious so I picked up this book, mostly because my heart aches for a child that lost their mother far too young。 This book was sad for me。 I do think he made the right decision for him and his family。 。。。more

I'm conflicted。 While I feel horrible for Harry -a book about it feels difficult to read as well as now petty interactions between family are documented forever。 It's long。 I'm conflicted。 While I feel horrible for Harry -a book about it feels difficult to read as well as now petty interactions between family are documented forever。 It's long。 。。。more

Harry’s Story。 Harry’s Voice。 Harry’s Words。 WOW。 How can you read this and not feel empathetic for all he has endured and continues to endure in his life。 I pray this is the beginning of change for their Family… For kindness, love, and peace! Diana would be so proud。 🙏🏻

An interesting insight into the life of someone in the public eye worldwide。 Clearly a lot of trauma in his life with few to trust。 Does have a bit of a whiny tone, but as he said in the book, he is a product of his upbringing。

Often difficult to get through, however, I admire Harry's courage for putting this to paper and I for one, believe every single word。 Often difficult to get through, however, I admire Harry's courage for putting this to paper and I for one, believe every single word。 。。。more

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book。 I have always had interest in reading or watching shows about the royal family and I empathized with william and Harry。 I don’t really know how accurate everything in the book is and it’s definitely harry’s perspective and probably very subjective。 But it is well written and interesting。

this was a bit of a weird one for me, there were some points that were deeply moving and poignant, however there were some moments that felt overly theatrical like they were said for the purpose of the book rather than what actual people think about things? i can understand why this book has been polarising and i think there are some structural flaws but he has obviously had an interesting life and has a unique perspective which did make elements of the book interesting。

Loved listening to him read it on audio!

I wanted to hear Harry’s story; his truth。 I wanted to put aside all the negative press and understand his experience。 But this book is a ramble, and quite boring and lacking in focus。 In the end, as a reader, I’m just not sure what he was trying to accomplish。 Had it been half as long and more focused, it might have been effective, but hearing about his frostbitten penis, and many other unnecessary details, compromised its worth, in my opinion。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I've read 3 memoirs this year, which isn't a favorite genre of mine at all。 However, this was the best written (thanks to a ghost writer, but still) and captivated me the most out of all three of them。 Was there oversharing? Yes。 Bitterness? Yes。 An almost unbelievable romance story? Yes。 But his candidness rang true to me, his pain, sadness, awareness of his privilege, as well as his pointed remarks on his huge mistakes too。 As always, this is his side of a story and his truth。Since I don't fol I've read 3 memoirs this year, which isn't a favorite genre of mine at all。 However, this was the best written (thanks to a ghost writer, but still) and captivated me the most out of all three of them。 Was there oversharing? And not only that, people have been cashing in on him and his family his entire life。 I honestly don't care what he does。 I'm glad he's making his own money on his own terms。That said, it's a 5 star rating for me。 I wish Harry and his family all the best and I'm glad they escaped that horrendous institution。 。。。more

Breezed through this, because the writing was really voice-y and quick (almost too quick in parts; I understand he had 35+ years of stuff to cover, but at times it did feel like racing through a thin outline of the story rather than delving deeper into it)。 My reading of this is fully colored by my own feelings about H&M (I love them, team Haz and Meg for life。 No one said a bad word against Meghan in the press in her entire career, but she starts dating Harry and suddenly every British racist t Breezed through this, because the writing was really voice-y and quick (almost too quick in parts; I understand he had 35+ years of stuff to cover, but at times it did feel like racing through a thin outline of the story rather than delving deeper into it)。 My reading of this is fully colored by my own feelings about H&M (I love them, team Haz and Meg for life。 No one said a bad word against Meghan in the press in her entire career, but she starts dating Harry and suddenly every British racist thinks she's the antichrist, how convenient!), but I really don't see how you could read this and NOT come away feeling like William & Kate and Charles & Camilla are the villains in this story?? And the shameful British press?? Everyone saying Harry is disgracing the monarchy by talking about everything he has (in this book, his interviews, the documentary, etc。, make that money baby) is failing to realize that what actually disgraced the monarchy was the press writing vile things about members of the family for decades unchecked。Something that struck me as so sad is that for all their wealth & power, the British royal family isn't actually a family。 You can't hug your grandmother? Or your father? You have to check with your grandmother's office before being allowed to see her? That's not a family。 That's a business arrangement and it sounds horrible and cold。 Kudos to Harry for moving as far away as he could。 。。。more

I found SPARE to be a very interesting read。 I learned a lot about the protocol of the Royal Family。 How they manage their lives under the scrutiny of the press is difficult at best。 They have so many detailed rules of dressing, speaking and presenting themselves。 The press is always looking for a reason to print something sensational, even if it is exaggerated or untrue。Being told repeatedly to ignore the headlines is not what I consider fatherly and/or brotherly advice。 Harry had issues dealin I found SPARE to be a very interesting read。 I learned a lot about the protocol of the Royal Family。 How they manage their lives under the scrutiny of the press is difficult at best。 They have so many detailed rules of dressing, speaking and presenting themselves。 The press is always looking for a reason to print something sensational, even if it is exaggerated or untrue。Being told repeatedly to ignore the headlines is not what I consider fatherly and/or brotherly advice。 Harry had issues dealing with his mother’s death and was traumatized for years。 He needed therapy as an adult to deal with the loss of his mom and his family’s lack of support。 According to his book, he tried repeatedly to get help from his brother, Father and his grandmother, the Queen。 His wife Meg was experiencing the hounding of the press and Harry of course knew how it had affected his Mother。 Diana had to leave them at times just to get away from the “Paps。” This is why Harry thought she wasn’t dead for years; thinking she was hiding from the press。 He felt he had to do something to protect his wife and family and ultimately was given options, none of which were acceptable other than leaving the royal family and escaping to another country。I didn’t think he was whining about his life。 He seemed to be a down to earth fellow who decided his family was more important than having the title of Prince。 One can’t fault him for that。 。。。more

"Spare" explains Harry & Meagan's war against the papps, which forced them into fleeing fromthe Monarchy, which wouldn't protect them。 It's always good to get the info from the horses's mouth。It was hard to be sympathetic to someone who led a privileged life, albeit there was a huge price to pay (wasn't Harry's fault that he was born into this madness)。Hope their life is better away from Buckingham et al。 "Spare" explains Harry & Meagan's war against the papps, which forced them into fleeing fromthe Monarchy, which wouldn't protect them。 It's always good to get the info from the horses's mouth。It was hard to be sympathetic to someone who led a privileged life, albeit there was a huge price to pay (wasn't Harry's fault that he was born into this madness)。Hope their life is better away from Buckingham et al。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Another audiobook I genuinely enjoyed。 There were parts that were slower than the others and I had to remind myself the whole thesis of the book was “why did Harry leave。” I also had to remind myself that this was just his side of the story。 Otherwise, I enjoyed hearing his vivid descriptions of the palaces and moments with Queen Elizabeth that made her seem more like a grandmother than THE queen。 Overall I found his story and that of the monarchy a bit heartbreaking。

I absolutely loved it。 I want to give Prince Harry a big hug。 It was moving, it was poignant, it was raw, and most of all I believe it。 I tend to go by a principle - MGI - most generous interpretation of people and things。 Most people are good, not sure why Harry and Meg are always assumed to be lying, or faking, or whatever。 To address the oft quoted "they said they want privacy, but here they are releasing all this media。" How silly。 They don't want privacy so much as they want peace, and they I absolutely loved it。 I want to give Prince Harry a big hug。 It was moving, it was poignant, it was raw, and most of all I believe it。 I tend to go by a principle - MGI - most generous interpretation of people and things。 Most people are good, not sure why Harry and Meg are always assumed to be lying, or faking, or whatever。 To address the oft quoted "they said they want privacy, but here they are releasing all this media。" How silly。 They don't want privacy so much as they want peace, and they want to tell their story, just as we all do。 They were put in tremendous pain, that much is clear, and acted with grace。 Bravo, Harry, for telling your story。 Bravo, most of all, for finding your peace。5 stars; I feel I have gotten all I need from it and won't re-read again and again, but still loved it and couldn't put it down。1 star - DNF2 stars - barely finished3 stars - average book that's interesting but doesn't stay with you。4 stars - great book with one or two major flaws5 stars - will read and re-read again 。。。more

As I've said before, it's kind of difficult to review a memoir in my opinion。 Do you review the quality of the writing? In this case, it was simplistic but moved smoothly along。 Do you review whether you enjoyed reading the book generally? I did, more than I expected to。 Do you review how you came away from the book feeling about the person who wrote it? I came away with a more negative view of him than I had before going in。 I have no doubt that he has been through a lot in his life and that so As I've said before, it's kind of difficult to review a memoir in my opinion。 Do you review the quality of the writing? I came away with a more negative view of him than I had before going in。 I have no doubt that he has been through a lot in his life and that some of it has left him damaged - just losing one's mother at such a young age and in such a horrific manner would be enough to do that to the strongest person。 And the family he comes from certainly puts the fun in dysfunctional。 Centuries of inbreeding does not apparently produce smart, kind, or even decent people。Still, I always got the impression from seeing Harry in other situations that he may have been among the best of the royal family with something to actually offer the world。 This memoir left me with an impression of a whiny and entitled young man who is incapable of compromise and easily influenced by pretty girls。 After reading this, the moral of the story seems to be: However beautiful, don't marry a terrible person。 。。。more

So I though a lot about writing this review and I still feel quite hesitant。 I bought the book because I was a huge fan of Harry during the time when he was a member of a royal family。 I thought that he is complicated yet interesting。 I think this changed when he met Meghan but I still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt。 So I wanted to hear their side of the story。 However, the South Park was right and the suitable title for this isn’t spare but WAAAGH。 The amount of complaining and bl So I though a lot about writing this review and I still feel quite hesitant。 I bought the book because I was a huge fan of Harry during the time when he was a member of a royal family。 I thought that he is complicated yet interesting。 I think this changed when he met Meghan but I still wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt。 So I wanted to hear their side of the story。 However, the South Park was right and the suitable title for this isn’t spare but WAAAGH。 The amount of complaining and blame shifting is insane。 He is not able to admit that he has ever done something wrong。 It’s always someone else’s fault - the press, william’s, Kate’s or whoever else。 The most interesting part of the book is the last part, the one where he talks about Meghan。 The way it is written much differs from the rest of the book。 This part contains a lot more victimhood narrative, gigantic blame shifting, and singing praises for meghan。 Everybody’s evil but her。 I think that could be classified as classic narrative of a victim of narcissistic abuse。 Additional thing - Polish translation is just awful。 Five people translated that book and Google translate could have done a better (and faster) job than them。 Idioms and phrases are translated word for word, so usually half of the book doesn’t make sense。 The whole structure lacks Polish grammar, sentences lack punctuation。 。。。more

Okay, I didn't actually "read" the book 😎I skimmed though pages, spent few minutes internally facepalming and then read a summary。A little ridiculous to see such a whiny vanilla memoir from a grown man, a prince even。 Final opinion - I think, when his children grow up, they'll feel shame knowing their father has willingly published it。 Assuming they'll not take it after Harry and will be adequate, of course。 Okay, I didn't actually "read" the book 😎I skimmed though pages, spent few minutes internally facepalming and then read a summary。A little ridiculous to see such a whiny vanilla memoir from a grown man, a prince even。 Final opinion - I think, when his children grow up, they'll feel shame knowing their father has willingly published it。 Assuming they'll not take it after Harry and will be adequate, of course。 。。。more

Interesting。 Easy read。 Just not sure what is true and what is fiction。 But even fiction can still be your truth if that is how you remember it。 I think that is what Harry tries to say in the first few pages to be fair。 I think it would be difficult for anyone reading this to truly be able to relate to some of what he tells us。 No one has ever been in his position or experienced what he has in quite the same way。 His whole upbringing has been quite surreal。 And for that reason, we should not jud Interesting。 Easy read。 Just not sure what is true and what is fiction。 But even fiction can still be your truth if that is how you remember it。 I think that is what Harry tries to say in the first few pages to be fair。 I think it would be difficult for anyone reading this to truly be able to relate to some of what he tells us。 No one has ever been in his position or experienced what he has in quite the same way。 His whole upbringing has been quite surreal。 And for that reason, we should not judge。 Let's leave the man and his family in peace to live their lives。 。。。more

I always enjoy listening to memoirs audibly。 There is something extra that comes through in a story, when the narrator tells it themself。 This is no exception。 While being raised with privilege, one would be hard pressed to say his life has been easy。 I found him very down to earth, and would recommend this book to anyone who was looking for a more rounded perspective of the monarchy and the challenges that come with it。
