A fun voice and approach to dumplings。 Lots of tasty, easy to follow recipes of dumplings and more。 We've made some of the recipes in this book and they've all turned out deliciously awesome。 I don't often buy cookbooks anymore, but this is definitely going to be added to my permanent collection。 I love the variety of dumpling, sauce and sides as well as the pre-planned menu suggestions。 A fun voice and approach to dumplings。 Lots of tasty, easy to follow recipes of dumplings and more。 We've made some of the recipes in this book and they've all turned out deliciously awesome。 I don't often buy cookbooks anymore, but this is definitely going to be added to my permanent collection。 I love the variety of dumpling, sauce and sides as well as the pre-planned menu suggestions。 。。。more

This is such a fun cookbook! A great selection of dumplings, hot buns, noodles, salads, drinks, snacks, and sweets。 Some ingredients are difficult to find in a regular supermarket so you might need to visit an Asian market。 I borrowed this book from the library but I might buy a copy for myself。

This was a great cookbook that beginners and advanced cooks can use。 There is a lot of information throughout on the different types of folds and the different kinds of wrappers you can use。 There were also a lot of delicious recipes both dumplings and beyond。 A great book to add to your collection and makes you want to get started the second you open up the book and turn the pages。 I received this advanced copy from Stewart, Tabori & Chang through Netgalley in exchange for my honest review。

When I signed up to review this book for NetGalley, I took my job seriously。 I downloaded the cookbook, and set out to cook as many of the recipes as I could with the help of my guy--the real chef in the family。 He and I have been cooking dumplings for years, so we were pretty sure there wasn't anything we could learn from this book beyond a few new filling recipes。Boy, were we wrong。First, we learned the importance of a good wrapper and the differences between the different styles。 Although the When I signed up to review this book for NetGalley, I took my job seriously。 I downloaded the cookbook, and set out to cook as many of the recipes as I could with the help of my guy--the real chef in the family。 He and I have been cooking dumplings for years, so we were pretty sure there wasn't anything we could learn from this book beyond a few new filling recipes。Boy, were we wrong。First, we learned the importance of a good wrapper and the differences between the different styles。 Although the author offers a recommendation for his preferred wrapper, we tried a few different styles and thicknesses and came up with the best wrapper available in our area--and it wasn't the one recommended by the cookbook。 If you have a chance, and if you aren't going to make your own, pick up the PF Select Shanghai-style wrappers for all of your dumplings。 You won't be disappointed。 If you can't find PF Select, the author's suggestion of Grand Marguis Shanghai style will do, but they'll be a bit more doughy。Second, we learned new folding styles for dumplings beyond the traditional half-moon。Third, Kenny Lao has a method for cooking dumplings that is absolutely fantastic。 In the past, we've fried them and we've steamed them, but his treatment gives you a potsticker that is the best of both worlds and is easy。 It's also a great method for making a ton of dumplings for a crowd。Fourth, we were skeptical of Lao's assertion that freezing the dumplings would yield excellent results。 After freezing dumplings based on Lao's instructions, we have taken to making and freezing dumplings once a month, and we will never return to frozen grocery store dumplings again。 There is absolutely no comparison。Finally, there are the recipes。 We tried four different recipes for fillings, two different soups, many of the dipping sauces, and three of the side dishes。 All were quite tasty, and we definitely have our favorites。 Overall, this is a great cookbook。 The layout is not overwhelming, the recipes are great, and the "how to" sections are clear。 Plus, it has a variety of recipes that will appeal to cooks of all skill levels。We have a lot of detailed notes about specific recipes, but that might be going a bit overboard for this review。 Hit me up if you're interested! We'll be buying a copy of this cookbook for ourselves, and we'll be getting additional copies for friends。 We definitely enjoyed our first attempt at cookbook reviewing, and we hope to do many more!Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy of the ebook in exchange for my honest review。 。。。more

This is a collection of dumpling recipes。 Many of the recipes look and sound delicious, I can't wait to try some of them (I just need to find a day with a lot of free time)。 For the inexperienced dumpling maker like myself this book is very helpful, it goes in depth about what tools you need and which ones you should splurge on if you will be making a lot of dumplings。 It also gives instructions on how to fold the dumplings。 I also like the section on how to fix your mistakes, I'm sure it will c This is a collection of dumpling recipes。 Many of the recipes look and sound delicious, I can't wait to try some of them (I just need to find a day with a lot of free time)。 For the inexperienced dumpling maker like myself this book is very helpful, it goes in depth about what tools you need and which ones you should splurge on if you will be making a lot of dumplings。 It also gives instructions on how to fold the dumplings。 I also like the section on how to fix your mistakes, I'm sure it will come in handy when I make some。If you like to cook and enjoy Asian foods then I would recommend this book to you。 It will give you many more recipes for dumplings that you can try and use to impress your fiends。Disclaimer: I received an ebook copy from Abram books and NetGallery for free in exchange for an honest review。 Al opinions are my own。 。。。more

This is an amazing collection of not just dumpling recipes, but also drinks and desserts – which was a fun surprise! There’s also a few meals such as sesame noodles and clear soups, and a few full menus to try for a dinner party。I’m a great lover of dumplings – mostly gyoza, but xiaolongbao and zongzi are fast favourites also。 What I would have loved for this book to do would be list the recipes by both their untranslated name/s, so that a reader can then know how and what to order when they’re This is an amazing collection of not just dumpling recipes, but also drinks and desserts – which was a fun surprise! The very second that Hey There, Dumpling! showed up on Netgalley, I knew I had to have it。 I love dumplings。 I could eat them every day and not get tired of them。 I've made them at home before。 They were good, but they could have been better, and I had to know the secrets of good dumpling-making。 I was so happy when I was approved, and this book did not let me down。In the first half of the book, Kenny Lao covers the basics: creating a filling, folding the dumplings, pan frying, making a dipping The very second that Hey There, Dumpling! showed up on Netgalley, I knew I had to have it。 I love dumplings。 I could eat them every day and not get tired of them。 I've made them at home before。 They were good, but they could have been better, and I had to know the secrets of good dumpling-making。 I was so happy when I was approved, and this book did not let me down。In the first half of the book, Kenny Lao covers the basics: creating a filling, folding the dumplings, pan frying, making a dipping sauce。 This alone would have been enough for me to rate this book five stars。 But noooo, then he has to go on and give recipes for appetizers, drinks, and desserts。 There I was, in bed with the most awful cold I've had in recent memory, barely able to move, but salivating at the prospect of these recipes, and only wishing that I would get better so I could try them。I have since made his "quickles" -- quick pickles with garlic and Szechuan peppercorns。 I chose radishes, since I have an overabundance of them from my farm。 And they're good, like。。。 really good。 I made three batches this week and have been eating them both as a side dish and throwing them in my salads。 I haven't had the chance to make any of his dumplings yet, but that's coming。 Soon, hopefully。 Maybe the next time I have dinner guests。I am seriously considering buying several copies of this cookbook and giving it as Christmas presents。 。。。more

Love the pictures and humor in this book! Makes me crave good dumplings and gives me courage to try making them myself! There are a lot of exotic ingredients that will be hard for most people to find so it would be nice if there was a list of possible substitutions。 Full disclosure: this book was provided to my as an advanced reading copy via the kind folks at Netgalley in exchange for my honest review。
