Summary

Good Grief is a collection of poetry and prose written within a ten-year period of reflection; a tribute to trauma, loss, self-worth and growth。 Written to gently close a chapter of pain, Brianna Pastor also honors the beautiful things that can be found throughout struggle。 Good Grief is a delicate reminder that it is okay to acknowledge our most painful experiences while also loving them。

One of my new years solutions was to read my poetry and I’m excited for it!

A genuinely good set of poems that actually resonate。 I thoroughly enjoyed all of them。

This was a lovely little poetry book。 I thoroughly enjoyed it and will read it for years to come。

really loved these。 one of my favorites:“i am alive to learn and unlearn, to relearn and unlearn and learn again。 i am here to unpack and develop and understand the value in struggle。 i am here to hold my grief the way it deserves to be held, for as long as that takes。 i am here to learn that there is no judgement where there is love。 i am here to understand that i am not small。 i am here, and i am learning that this is a big thing”

My first poetry read。 I saw it going around on tiktok lol so I bought on Amazon。 You could feel the authors pain and journey to self discovery and the work she put in to finding herself despite life circumstances。 “if anyone is going to magically appear and make your life better just know that person is always going to be you。”

beautiful。 so lovely。 short and sweet yet i found myself having to sit and mark certain poems just because of how they resonated。 truly beautiful。 highly reccomend

Nothing special—you could’ve told me this was Rupi Kaur and I’d believe you。 I didn’t relate to a lot of the poems but the ones I did relate to were good!

Abi

4。5/5Not a big poetry fan, but this was fantastic。

Reading this after “All About Love” was a really good combination。 They complement each other immensely。 Brianna really gets into the grit of grief。 We have to accept it and learn to love ourselves in that place, or it will consume us and turn us into the person who kicked us into that very hell。 Learning to love our grief turns it into “good grief。”

not usually a poetry person but so many of these poems resonated with me。 “how can you feel the freedom of the sun when you have not sat for a while under the shade of the trees? surely, you can learn to appreciate both。”

Bennett Grant

The first poetry book I’ve ever purchased, and I loved it!

Steven Thorn

Remarkable。 I will reread。 Vulnerable, wholehearted, and life-affirming。

Really clever title, really beautiful words。 I love that it feels like a character arc-from the darkest moments to healing and moving forward。 It felt universal, like everyone has felt something similar to what she’s describing。

3。5。 Not every poem was for me and not every style was for me, but i could feel the author’s catharsis in every word。 Just wish it had brought more of my own as well。

I love much of what Instagram sensations like Rupi Kaur offer, but this little book was leaps and bounds more profound and beautiful。 What makes this collection of thoughts so incredibly moving is that it voices---in somehow gorgeous and raw tones---extraordinary pain and depression。 But it also pays tribute to those little moments of hope that pull a person through difficult times, trauma recovery, and grief。Truly, a deeply moving and incredible collection of poems。

this book both shook me to my core and also felt like a nurturing lullaby at different times。 it’s incredible to me how valuable the sentiments in such a small book could really be。 good grief tugs at your heartstrings and so eloquently depicts the ebbs and flows of what it means to navigate chronic mental illnesses and the overlapping complexities of coming of age as a queer person。 i found it to be a highly relatable, harrowing & comforting, and think anyone could benefit from the lessons it h this book both shook me to my core and also felt like a nurturing lullaby at different times。 it’s incredible to me how valuable the sentiments in such a small book could really be。 good grief tugs at your heartstrings and so eloquently depicts the ebbs and flows of what it means to navigate chronic mental illnesses and the overlapping complexities of coming of age as a queer person。 i found it to be a highly relatable, harrowing & comforting, and think anyone could benefit from the lessons it has to teach! 。。。more

Briannas words are safe and vulnerable and important。 This collection felt like an embrace。 Ill be keeping this on my nightstand and re reading for a while!

The emotional shift in this book from the first half to second half of words was so beautiful to absorb。 The ever so slight shift to acceptance and yearning。 Like buds in spring。 I love poetry/short essay books and Brianna hit out of the park, love you friend!

The most stunning and challenging book I have ever read。 Brianna opens a door for their readers to safely feel their pain and their joy and every emotion in between, and not just to feel those emotions but to treasure them and acknowledge their beauty。 I would give a lot to be able to read this book for the first time again。

Brianna Pastor's poetic debut does not disappoint and will resonate with many。 Good Grief (amazing title!) is a poignant introductory collection that sets the stage beautifully for what's to come from Pastor Brianna Pastor's poetic debut does not disappoint and will resonate with many。 Good Grief (amazing title!) is a poignant introductory collection that sets the stage beautifully for what's to come from Pastor 。。。more

This collection of poems has a universal message that a thousand people with a thousand different experiences can all relate to。 I hope that others who read this will feel as impacted as I did。

This book is a safe space。 There’s no “fluff” or unoriginal content within it。 This book is filled with raw emotion / life experiences yet it’s articulated beautifully。 Even though the author wrote this book based on their life- it felt like it was written for me。 This is a must have for your bookshelf and I have no doubt in my mind I’ll be re reading it throughout the next year
