Summary

I’m the face of the NHL。 The golden boy with quick hands and a million dollar smile that the fans adore。 My contract is up at the end of the season, and with playoffs starting, I have to be on my best behaviour。 Keep my head down and respect the press when they shove their microphones beneath my nose。 This isn’t my first rodeo, so it should be easy。 Right?

No。 Not this time。 One bad call and I’m the poster boy for bad decisions。

I haven’t seen my childhood best friend since the day her father betrayed me and she broke my heart。 Now, eight years later, she’s back。 And she’s my new fake girlfriend for the next three months。

Some wounds never heal, and the moment I see Braxton Heights, I know mine have not。 But she’s the only shot I have at saving my reputation and securing my new deal, and while I might have lost her all those years ago, I refuse to lose hockey。

I just hope I’m strong enough not to fall for her all over again in the process。

Childish book。 I don’t like friends to lovers or second chance romance。 He always called her baby girl and that grossed me out。 Almost DNF but I forced myself to finish

4。5 ⭐️ AHHH I love Maddox and Braxton, they made my heart feel so full! Have to say though, Braxton Heights is a terrible name。 It’s the perfect name for a middle class suburban neighbourhood where all the houses look the same and they have perfectly manicured lawns, but not the best for a person。

Definitely influenced into reading this book。 I love a good sports romance, but unfortunately this one wasn’t my fav。 I do appreciate the good writing and character design!

3,5 stars。 This was really cute and enjoyable but I got bored towards the end。 I will definitely pick up the next book in this series since the FMC reminds me of Daisy Calloway。

Maddox & Braxton were definitely made for each other。 Even though Maddox was slightly angry at Braxton in the beginning (and rightfully so), you can't deny the pull between them。 The only things that bothered me was (view spoiler)[ Braxton's reasoning about why she ran away。 That was just plain stupid and caused so much hurt to not only Maddox but also his family。 Maddox should've been way more angry at her than he was tbh。 Because she not only broke his heart but her decision to convince Maddox to listen to her father's decision hurt his professional career too and I feel like I was more pissed at her than the characters lol。 (hide spoiler)] Overall, the book was enjoyable and a bit angsty。 The things Maddox said to Braxton made me swoon so much! If you're up for a bestfriends to strangers to lovers hockey romance, this one's for you。 。。。more

A couple that actually communicates and a second chance romance that is actually done well。 I liked how the flashback chapters were short and didn’t drag the story。 Pretty disappointed in how little Braxton’s actual sister Annalise was mentioned especially in the wedding, she wasnt there at all。 I find her character the most interesting and look forward to her story if she gets one。

I love hockey romances, and I wanted to love this one…but I don’t know, I just didn’t love the character development。 It just seemed like still living in a teenager’s world。 The spice was good, but it just wasn’t one of those books I couldn’t put down。 Now, I’m dying to read the next book though because Cooper and Adeline sound interesting for sure!

absolutely loved this book。they’re such a cute couple & they deserve the world。i absolutely adored their “friendship” (quotes bc that’s what they called it during they state of denial)kinda nervy for the the next book bc i genuinely have no idea how that’s gonna work (praying it’s nothing weird🙏🏽)。 i still can’t wait to read it though🤞🏽

dnf @ 17%I truly need to stop trying books because I see one line that sounds good。 This was just unnecessarily dramatic and boring and trying to be mysterious but instead just annoying me。

why have I slept on this one ?Sports romance has been a surprise love of mine and finding a good well written one that focuses on the sport with additional plot is hard to find。This is a slow burn second chance, friends to enemies to lovers, with the darn cutest story。It’s dual POV but flicks to the past。If you like hockey romance, read this one。 You’ll love it

When I say I love friends-to-lovers I love a good friends-to-lovers story, and this is the one。 They've been in love with each other since they were kids, but something happened that made them stop talking, and suddenly they had to fake a date。 THE ANGST hello- my heart goes out to them。 the communication they've had? *chef's kiss*。 I really love the little flashback to when they were kids。 The love they had for each other was so beautiful💕Also, as a hockey fan, every time I've read a sport roma When I say I love friends-to-lovers I love a good friends-to-lovers story, and this is the one。 They've been in love with each other since they were kids, but something happened that made them stop talking, and suddenly they had to fake a date。 THE ANGST hello- my heart goes out to them。 the communication they've had? *chef's kiss*。 I really love the little flashback to when they were kids。 The love they had for each other was so beautiful💕Also, as a hockey fan, every time I've read a sport romance, hockey romance to be exact, it's quite rare for me to find when the story mentioned hockey as thoroughly as this one because sometimes the hockey aspect was nowhere to be found in a so called hockey romance book。 This is my first book by the author, and I'm pretty sure I will check the others and the rest of the series。 I can't wait for them all!!!🥰 。。。more

Maddox really was a chip off the ole block 🥹🫶🏽 Cannot wait to see how the rest of this second gen series shapes out! Tropes• Hockey Romance• Childhood Best Friends to Strangers to Lovers• Second Chance• Fake Dating• Curvy Heroine• “It’s always been you”Maddox Hutton & Braxton Heights had been best friends since childhood however in a bid to make more money, her father advises Maddox to make a terrible call on his first NHL contract。 Braxton leaves convinced Maddox will never forgive her for encouraging him to go along with her father’s plan and they don’t see each other for 8 years。 All this time later her father is still bitter and seeking “revenge” and after a scandal breaks out about Maddox, he uses it as an excuse to spout more lies about him hoping to sabotage his career。 In a bid to fix his reputation, the higher ups at VW formulate a plan for Maddox to enter into a fake relationship。 What they don’t tell him is that the woman they chose happens to be the one that broke his heart all those years ago。 ReviewCannot put into words how excited I was to start this series! Seeing Maddox all grown up and a star hockey player in his own right was everything! I loved seeing how supportive his family was and I’m very interested in seeing their family dynamic play out some more throughout the series。 Braxton had always been part of their family and it was beautiful to see how welcoming they were when she returned。I really enjoyed the way their relationship played out。 There was a lot of hurt still there and Braxton respected that Maddox couldn’t forgive her right away。 The fact that he was more hurt about her leaving than the actual reason she left, spoke to how much he loved her and thought she would be by his side forever。 I appreciate that the fake dating wasn’t drawn out and that they had actual conversations about their feelings and working towards leaving the past behind them。 The little snippets of their childhood were so sweet and I adored the way Maddox had always made Braxton feel beautiful and never wanted to hear her talking badly of herself。 He showed her everyday that she was the most gorgeous woman in the world to him and I loved that she eventually believed that。 Her confidence in herself was everything! My love for Oakley & Ava skyrocketed just as I suspected it would。 They were the best most supportive parents and I loved every glimpse we got to see of them 🤍 Extremely interested in Noah’s story! I need to get in this man’s head asap! It was heartbreaking to see he wasn’t close with the rest of his family but I cannot wait to get to his story with Tinsley, I know their book will be a lot heavier。。。 He was really giving off “hates everyone but her” vibes and I’m here for it。 In saying that, I’m thrilled Cooper & Addie’s book is next! Age gap, brother’s best friend, their banter… I need it NOW!!! Also I know it’s unlikely but I loved Braxton’s sister Anna and I wouldn’t be mad if she got her own book… Bentley was a fun side character too just throwing it out there… 👀 。。。more

It’s been me and Curly Fry since the moment we met in that kindergarten parking lot twenty-one years ago。Imagine spending seven years of your life building up your public image。 Even longer to work to a point where you can have a public image。 It all comes crashing down in an instant when trying to do the right thing。 The public doesn't care about the truth, only whatever the juiciest explanation is。This is the story of Maddox Hutton, a hockey player trying to live up to his father's legacy。 He It’s been me and Curly Fry since the moment we met in that kindergarten parking lot twenty-one years ago。Imagine spending seven years of your life building up your public image。 Even longer to work to a point where you can have a public image。 It all comes crashing down in an instant when trying to do the right thing。 The public doesn't care about the truth, only whatever the juiciest explanation is。This is the story of Maddox Hutton, a hockey player trying to live up to his father's legacy。 He gets a call from his sister at 2am that their other brother is at a sleazy bar in town and needs to be picked up。 The two brothers wait too long to make their exit, giving enough time for an angry man to approach them and demand money from Noah。 This exchange and Maddox's subsequent beating is a PR nightmare。Enter Braxton Heights, former best friend and current vet/shelter owner。 She has an adoption event coming up, and it's the perfect thing to help Maddox fix his image。 The problem? The two haven't spoken in 8 years。 The even bigger problem? They have to fake date。This was a sweet story of a second chance "it's always been you。" After briefly meeting our duo in the Swift Hat-Trick series, this book gives glimpses of their first 13 years of friendship while showing us where they are in the present。 Every few chapters, the story jumps back in time to some of the important highlights of their time as friends。 There's background to show how close they were and not just listening to the characters say it。The thing this story does best is come full circle, even on the little details。 For example, (view spoiler)[Braxton and Maddox meet for the first time in 8 years in front of Hades's cage。 Throughout the story, we learn where the name comes from and see his growth。 We end with our lovely couple adopting him, coming full circle from the conversation they had as teenagers about their future dog。 (hide spoiler)]Something else this story does well is teenage angst。 At 23, it's frustrating to understand how neither character picked up on their feelings for one another。 However, the reader has to put their brain back into their teenage body and remember what it felt like to have a crush in high school, especially on a close friend。 It's terrifying to not know if someone is saying and acting out of friendship or romantic interest。 And these two make it clear that they have been very close since kindergarten。Another highlight, though not important to this book specifically, is the information given about the couples in the later books and the little hints towards the meaning of their titles。 Forgetting the fact that it's a second generation series and all these characters have been introduced as kids, the future couples are introduced just enough to get readers interested for their books。 (view spoiler)[ Adalyn wants to travel Europe, but has Cooper been asked to go with her? Or is she going alone? Is she even going at all? Has she always had a crush on Cooper? Or do feelings develop throughout the book? How did Noah and Tiny become so close, and why is he moving to Toronto? Does his music career happen? (hide spoiler)]There are three points that felt weak, but it's important to stress that they're not major。 (view spoiler)[The first is the chapter from Oakley's point of view。 I know it's meant to be a throwback and insight, but it may have worked better if the reader found out about the blackmail when Braxton does。 The entire book is spent only knowing what Braxton and Maddox know, and this almost felt like a random deviation to appease fans of the first book。 The second thing is the fact that Braxton's sister just disappears。 A big deal is made about the fact that they've always been close, and she even asks Braxton to meet up with her again after brunch。 But after the hockey game, she's just gone。 No mention of her at the wedding in the epilogue (unless I missed it)。 The last part is how Braxton's car being broken into is just dropped until it's relevant again。 For a couple who is great at communication, it was surprising to not even see a conversation about it。 Additionally, it's not mentioned if she filed a police report until, again, it comes up chapters later。 It just almost felt like an afterthought for something that ends up being a major detail。 (hide spoiler)]Overall, this is Hannah Cowan's best book to date。 It's clear that her writing has grown since her first book, and is continuing to grow。 Things are well thought out and nothing feels too far-fetched。 Their love is apparent and doesn't just magically appear in 3 chapters as it does in many romance novels。 Braxton and Maddox have great communication skills and are a couple that genuinely deserves to have the audience root for them。 This is a good sign that the next four stories will hopefully be even better than this one。 。。。more

4。25⭐️ 2。5🌶️This was a nice fluffy read with a good dash of spice。 A friends to “enemies” to lovers, pseudo second chance romance, virgin MMC, fake dating, found family, and no third act breakup。 Not my favorite hockey romance of all time but there was nothing that I hated about it 🤷‍♀️ It’s just not that memorable, ya know? I’m also reading another hockey romance at the same time so the plots are merging in my head lol
