Summary

New York Times bestselling author Kelley Armstrong’s Rockton Novels had one of the most unique towns in crime fiction。 Murder at Haven's Rock is a spinoff, a fresh start。。。 with a few new dangers that threaten everything before it even begins。

Haven’s Rock, Yukon。 Population: 0

Deep in the Yukon wilderness, a town is being built。 A place for people to disappear, a fresh start from a life on the run。 Haven’s Rock isn’t the first town of this kind, something detective Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton, know first-hand。 They met in the original town of Rockton。 But greed and deception led the couple to financing a new refuge for those in need。 This time around, they get to decide which applicants are approved for residency。

There’s only one rule in Haven’s Rock: stay out of the forest。 When two of the town's construction crew members break it and go missing, Casey and Eric are called in ahead of schedule to track them down。 When a body is discovered, well-hidden with evidence of foul play, Casey and Eric must find out what happened to the dead woman, and locate those still missing。 The longer Casey and Eric don’t know what happened, the more danger everyone is in。

Murder at Haven’s Rock is a different kind of mystery by Kelley Armstrong。 Haven’s Rock is in the Yukon and has a population of none。 It is a secret town being built by a group of people who agreed to work there for a specific time and not tell anyone。 As this is the first book in a new series, I suspect we will learn more information as the story continues。 Meanwhile, two of the workers have disappeared in the forest。 The forest where no one is supposed to go!Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheri Murder at Haven’s Rock is a different kind of mystery by Kelley Armstrong。 Haven’s Rock is in the Yukon and has a population of none。 It is a secret town being built by a group of people who agreed to work there for a specific time and not tell anyone。 As this is the first book in a new series, I suspect we will learn more information as the story continues。 Meanwhile, two of the workers have disappeared in the forest。 The forest where no one is supposed to go!Casey Duncan and her husband, Sheriff Eric Dalton are the two main characters。 They are called in to investigate the missing people。 However while they are at Haven's Rock, we discover that one of the houses will be theirs。 We also discover the town is meant to be a refuge for people to disappear。 The mystery grows as Casey and Eric start to investigate。 The novel slowly adds more information to help deepen the questions。 I liked the pace, the people and the covert nature of the town。 I found Casey and Eric interesting characters that I want to read more about。 Murder at Haven’s Rock by Kelley Armstrong was a good read! 。。。more

Rockton may be finished but there is still a need for a haven for people who want or need to disappear。 Haven’s Rock is being built to be that place。 It is still under construction when two members of the crew go missing bringing Casey and Dalton to the site to investigate。 They uncover the body of a dead woman only it isn’t the woman they are looking for and it is clear that something is very wrong at Haven’s Rock。I am a huge fan of the Casey Duncan Novels by Kelley Armstrong and Murder at Have Rockton may be finished but there is still a need for a haven for people who want or need to disappear。 Haven’s Rock is being built to be that place。 It is still under construction when two members of the crew go missing bringing Casey and Dalton to the site to investigate。 They uncover the body of a dead woman only it isn’t the woman they are looking for and it is clear that something is very wrong at Haven’s Rock。I am a huge fan of the Casey Duncan Novels by Kelley Armstrong and Murder at Haven’s Rock definitely does not disappoint。 There are plenty of twists and turns and likely suspects to keep the reader engaged and guessing throughout。 Although this is a continuation of the Rockton novels, it could easily be read as a standalone。 The site of the novels may have moved but the story is still as compelling and entertaining as ever。Thanks to Netgalley and St Martin's Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Huge sigh of relief for all of the many fans of Kelly Armstrong’s Rockton series when she announced she had signed a contract for a new series based on the Rockton premise and many of the same Rockton characters。 Murder at Haven’s Rock is the first book in the new series。 The premise of both series, is that Rockton and now Haven’s Rock were built as sanctuaries。 Rockton became a money-making scheme in its last years。 The most recent Rockton owners finally decided to shut it down。 They had it dis Huge sigh of relief for all of the many fans of Kelly Armstrong’s Rockton series when she announced she had signed a contract for a new series based on the Rockton premise and many of the same Rockton characters。 Murder at Haven’s Rock is the first book in the new series。 The premise of both series, is that Rockton and now Haven’s Rock were built as sanctuaries。 Rockton became a money-making scheme in its last years。 The most recent Rockton owners finally decided to shut it down。 They had it dismantled it to the last nail。 Some of the current residents decided secretly to rebuild Rockton spending their inheritances, personal wealth and their talents in secretly re-opening a true sanctuary, calling it Haven’s Rock。 Once again secretive, hidden and mostly basic living。 Readers of the Rockton series, lets recite the first rule of both places “Stay out of the Forest” Unless your name is Eric Dalton, or you are on a guided tour。 The forest isn’t trying to kill you, it just does。 People just can’t seem to keep that simple rule in their heads。 The construction crew can’t either。Eric and Casey are called to the well-hidden Haven’s Rock。 Two members of the construction crew have gone missing into the vast Yukon Forest。 Add in unknown neighbors and bodies and its like coming home。 Oh, did I forget to mention the Yukon? A forest where people can become lost and turned around in less than a tenth of a mile。 About 344,000 people in an area the size of Texas。Murder at Haven’s Rock partially serves as an introduction to some new characters; a few Rockton characters show up towards the end。 For new readers, you get enough of a backstory, but also the joys of discovery。 Armstrong is known for her paranormal books, Rockton and Haven’s Rock are straight crime stories。 These books are just so unusual and compelling in the characters and setting。First off, except for Sheriff Dalton and Casey’s sister April, all of the former residents have terrible backgrounds; and I don’t mean as victims。 Although there will be plenty of residents who are victims of stalkers or abusive mates。 The setting! The Yukon, where just about everything but the trees are actually trying to kill you。 Have I mentioned bear bowling and killer rabbits? I guess you will need to read all of the books。 Then again, Armstrong writes so beautifully of the majesty and peace of the Yukon, making it very understandable why people seek the isolated lifestyle。 Murder at Haven’s Rock serves as a outstanding introduction to the new series, leaving old and new readers anxiously awaiting the full meal of Haven’s Rock。Thank you to NetGalley and Minotaur/St Martin’s press for and Advanced Reader’s Copy。I have listened to Thérèse Plummer’s wonderful audio narration since the first Rockton book。 She has always been the voice of both Casey and Eric, smoothly transitioning from one character to another。 I find her voice to be magic and the perfect reader for the new Haven’s Rock series。Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan/Minotaur Books for and advanced audiobook of Murder at Haven’s Rock 。。。more

An intriguing mystery in an odd setting with equally odd circumstances。 I had some trouble buying that people who have a need to seek refuge would choose the wilds of the Yukon。

Like all the fans of the Rockton series, I was gutted to see it end last year - Eric and Casey are a pair of my favourite protagonists, and their Yukon refuge has been a welcome book-vacation destination for me many times。 But it turns out the story will continue, with a change big enough to call it a new series。 Lucky us!And it seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same - it's not long before there's reason for Eric and Casey (and Storm, of course) to head into the wildern Like all the fans of the Rockton series, I was gutted to see it end last year - Eric and Casey are a pair of my favourite protagonists, and their Yukon refuge has been a welcome book-vacation destination for me many times。 But it turns out the story will continue, with a change big enough to call it a new series。 Lucky us!And it seems that the more things change, the more they remain the same - it's not long before there's reason for Eric and Casey (and Storm, of course) to head into the wilderness in pursuit of answers, as they unravel quite the knotty mystery。 There's characters who return, as well as some new additions I've met with varied responses (view spoiler)[Yolanda ehh, Kendra very yes (hide spoiler)] - but the heart of the series beats as it ever did, with the call to the wild that serves as a refuge for those who need one。 Murder at Haven's Rock takes place in the early set-up, so we're not yet dealing with the operation as it will be。 It's enough to have me very ready to see more though - so as much as I enjoyed this, I can't wait to see everything up and running。 And I'm super glad to get to continue a series I thought I'd had to say goodbye to! 。。。more

Kelley Armstrong writes a ton of books and so before I started this one I made sure it was the first in the series it was, but listening to this book it kept mentioning things from Rockton。 Turns out there’s another series call Rockton, and this one follows that one as the move to Havens Rock。 So I think if I would have started with that series first I would have enjoyed this one more。

I was so excited when I heard we were getting more of Casey and Eric and secret towns in the Yukon。 I’m generally ready to be done with a series after 7-8 books, and the main Rockton series is over, but wasn’t quite ready to let go of this one。 This spin off starts off with a bang。 I’m missing the old gang but some of these new characters are excellent。 I’m still torn on how many murders can we really have to keep these books going, but for now I’m all in。

Kelley Armstrong always keeps me up at night。 From staying up to late reading “just one more chapter” to being unable to sleep because part of the story scared me to being wide awake because I CANNOT stop thinking about this freaking story。 This is one of the best spin offs I’ve ever read and I am looking forward to seeing where this series goes from here。

The new settlement of Haven's Rock doesn't have a great beginning。 Casey and Eric arrive to find that two resident's are missing。 They begin to search and this they found one of the residents, dead, but realize the woman they found is not the missing resident。 One of the missing residents is returned to the settlement unconscious。 The investigation begins and as the mystery unfolds, Casey and Eric try to figure out what is going on in the woods surrounding Haven's Rock。I loved this book。 The new settlement of Haven's Rock doesn't have a great beginning。 Casey and Eric arrive to find that two resident's are missing。 They begin to search and this they found one of the residents, dead, but realize the woman they found is not the missing resident。 One of the missing residents is returned to the settlement unconscious。 The investigation begins and as the mystery unfolds, Casey and Eric try to figure out what is going on in the woods surrounding Haven's Rock。I loved this book。 。。。more

Entertaining and intriguing mystery with interesting and well-developed characters。 My only criticism, if it's even a criticism, is that the setting is strange。 It's set in a private town (is that a thing?) in the Canadian wilderness。 The town is designed to be a sanctuary for people who want to disappear and they have to apply to live there。 ???
