Summary

No war can be fought with clean hands。 Not even the ones waged for the right reasons。 Not even the ones you win。

Tisaanah bargained away her own freedom to save those she left behind in slavery。 Now, bound by her blood pact, she must fight the Orders’ war -- and Max is determined to protect her at all costs。

But when a betrayal tears apart Ara, Max and Tisaanah are pushed into an even bloodier conflict。 Tisaanah must gamble with Reshaye’s power to claim an impossible victory。 And Max, forced into leadership, must confront everything he hoped to forget: his past, and his own mysterious magic。

All the while, darker forces loom -- far darker, even, than the Orders’ secrets。

As Tisaanah and Max are ensnared in a web of ancient magic and twisted secrets, one question remains: what are they willing to sacrifice for victory? For power? For love?

The whole series is gorgeous。 I can’t help but fall for the whole “orphan girl with traumatic past turns out to be the most powerful magic wielder and she falls in love with her dark and brooding master。” So cliche and I eat it up every time。 Beautifully written, felt like I was in another world, def would recommend。

This book needs a map。Seriously, I would love a map of this world。 Ok a more serious note, this book seemed better than the first one。 I’m glad Tisaanah’s character improved because she was a bit annoying in the first book。 Aefe’s chapters were my favorite and I was glad I was right about her。 I can’t wait to see more of her in the final book。 Parts of the plot seemed to get too fast and confusing, but I’m hoping the last book will clarify everything。

Honestly when I first started the series on audible I wasn’t sure if I would like it。 But then by the middle of the first book I was hooked。 And this one gets even better with the twists。 It just a really clever book on how it connects everything and it has incredible world building。 I wish there was more like fan art or if it were a tv show because it would be beautiful!

Wow。 WOW。 Just。。。 Wow。 I've not left a written review for a book on this app yet。 I've absolutely adored many series I've read。 But this is another caliber。 The first book was 5/5。 This one was 100/5。 The emotions roiling through me reading this series so far are unreal。 It's riveting, soul crushing, heart achingly sweet, hauntingly tragic。 This book is now my personality。 I can't wait to finish the final one! Wow oh wow! I finished this last night and I still don't feel like I have the words to express how I feel about this series。Despite this being another long book, it captured me the whole way through。 Just a perfect plot, the characters are so well written and god the emotions I felt alongside them! the only reason this wasn’t a 5 star read was bc the book was slow until the 70% mark。 but that ending? i’m done。 gone。 heartbroken。 goodbye

ASCENDED BE DAMNED WHAT WAS THAT ENDING???? HELLO???? This book shattered me to pieces and then remade me。 I am unwell。 The plot twists were all so excellent I am shaking to know what happens next! Fave read of the year so far??? Maybe???? I mean it’s only January but holy moly how do you compete with this perfection??

Jess Johns

The world building in this series is absolutely phenomenal。 Two universes collide in this vivid, gripping story that I so loved experiencing。

I gave four stars instead of 5 only because the first half of this book felt a bit bogged down, but the second half completely makes up for it。 Holy Shit how the plot has thickened。 I can’t wait to dive into the last one。

I am at loss for words。 Speechless。 Gutted。 A void of emotions has spread in my brain。 This books went at a moderate pace at first and whilst I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it。 And then Carissa shot me in my brain and my heart with the last 200 pages。 Ripping apart the entire world and people in it, that thought I knew。 If this book was to be described by one word it would be: betrayal。 WHO GAVE CARISSA THE PERMISSION TO BREAK MY BRAIN LIKE THAT。 HOW DARE SHE? This series is amazing。 I can’t wait to read the next。 I don’t think I’ve ever empathized with the villains in any book more than in this one。

This book took my breathe away。 So much occurred。 So much heartbreak。 I cried。 I loved every second of it。 Aefe… Tisaanah… Max… Im rooting for y’all。 On to the next。

4。75 stars // This book was very good - a third POV was added and usually where that can be annoying or distracting from the main story it was somehow equally captivating, interesting, and eventually devastating。 Although this book was a long one, I didn't really feel like it was - the plot was always interesting and moving forward。 Broadbent does a few things really well - creating complex multi-dimensional characters (including villains) and introducing new details throughout in a way that's n 4。75 stars // This book was very good - a third POV was added and usually where that can be annoying or distracting from the main story it was somehow equally captivating, interesting, and eventually devastating。 Although this book was a long one, I didn't really feel like it was - the plot was always interesting and moving forward。 Broadbent does a few things really well - creating complex multi-dimensional characters (including villains) and introducing new details throughout in a way that's not overwhelming。 I sometimes did not know who to sympathize with and root for。 The last 15o pages of this book had me shook and I am so excited to dive into Book 3! It's not a full 5-stars bc I think it's lacking the secret ingredient that makes books un-put-downable。 I looked forward to reading this each time, but it wasn't super, super addictive。 Which is not necessarily a bad thing bc her books are so so so well written and well-rounded in terms of characters and plot。 I'm officially a Carissa Broadbent stan。 。。。more

WHAT THE HELL。 omg this fucking book tore me to shreds and i thanked it。 HOW IS IT SO GOOD??! TISANNAH AND MAX?? they’re soulmates。 AND AEFE AND CAUDAN??? I LOVE THEM BUT IM SCARED FOR WHAT THEY’RE GONNA DO。 AND HOW COULD IT END LIKE THAT 😭😭 i’m kinda eating it up though because it’s giving everything i wanted from war of two queens and didn’t get 🤭 BUT AHHH

Meagan Boen

This is… a lot; oversimplified: weapons of mass destruction in body form and quiet villains。

Someone hold me。But in all seriousness。。。holy cannoli this was an absolute rollercoaster。 So much happened that when I think back to the beginning of this book, I think to myself, "no, that definitely happened in book 1, that can't be all in the same book。" But。。。it was。 It was all in the same book。 Again, someone hold me。What I want to say to our big three main characters:Tisaanah, it's okay to be vulnerable and to show fear。Max, it's okay to be willing to fight for something bigger than yourse Someone hold me。But in all seriousness。。。holy cannoli this was an absolute rollercoaster。 So much happened that when I think back to the beginning of this book, I think to myself, "no, that definitely happened in book 1, that can't be all in the same book。" But。。。it was。 It was all in the same book。 Again, someone hold me。What I want to say to our big three main characters:Tisaanah, it's okay to be vulnerable and to show fear。Max, it's okay to be willing to fight for something bigger than yourself。Aefe, there is nothing wrong with you。 Nothing。That's all I got。 I still don't fully understand the magic system, and tbh it really only got more complicated in this book, but at this point I'm so effing invested in these characters that I don't care。 I need to go collect the little pieces of myself off the floor before I dive into the final book in this trilogy。 I have a feeling I will never be the same after I finish this journey。 。。。more

3。75- idk, not a fan of the ending (a bit convoluted) and pacing was off。 again, magic system not super well defined at all and it doesn’t look like it’s ever going to be at this point。 i do l enjoy that there isn’t much relationship drama/miscommunication。 i appreciate all of the healthy relationship dynamics between the characters and the characters themselves

An amazing sequel to the first book, I felt the additional pov was really well done and tied in to the story in a new and unique way。 Paints a intriguing picture of who the characters are and what drives them to their goals! Cant wait to read the final book! Great for fans of throne of glass。

pam ❀

2/5 i did NOT like the third pov, i couldn’t become invested。 overall, i feel like the stakes were higher in the previous book。i was also disappointed in the romance。 again, the stakes were nonexistent bc they resolved their relationship in the first book。 i’m boreddd idk。 this took me so much longer to finish than the first book bc of how little i cared。 idk if i’ll read book 3。

At first, I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to spend the time and energy on this sequel because I came across a review on bookTok that said the first 70% of this book would be very slow and hard to read。 However, because I wanted to see this series through and had high hopes for its finale, I carried on, and (so far), I’m glad I did! 💖The book is quite heavy, the narrative for this one is quite complex, involving a lot of politics, new characters, new plot lines, new environments, etc。 I literally At first, I wasn’t quite sure if I wanted to spend the time and energy on this sequel because I came across a review on bookTok that said the first 70% of this book would be very slow and hard to read。 However, because I wanted to see this series through and had high hopes for its finale, I carried on, and (so far), I’m glad I did! 💖The book is quite heavy, the narrative for this one is quite complex, involving a lot of politics, new characters, new plot lines, new environments, etc。 I literally had a notepad beside me as I read, since I needed to jot down every new character, detail, or place mentioned!🤣The story is told through multiple timelines and multiple points of view, so if you don’t see it coming, you might find it very confusing when the other plot lines are introduced。 I myself initially wondered if they erroneously added an excerpt from a separate series into the book’s print 😅I find that this is the kind of book you really need momentum for; once you put it down for a long time, I feel like it would be hard to reorient yourself back into the story again But!! Though it’s quite intimidating, I found the whole experience to be mentally stimulating— I loved many of the lines written by the author, I thought they beautifully captured real life experiences and expressed deep, well-developed characters。 Despite the fact that I’ve only read 2 out of the 3 books from this series, I already feel like the characters are really well thought of and richly written。 (Though I find Nura still very flat…。。 I still can’t seem to get a good grasp on her motives— for someone so detached, why does she feel so protective of her homeland? 🤔)Overall, I’m not gonna lie, it was a very long journey, some parts of it were more exciting than others, but I feel like, to get the full effect and experience of this whole series, this book continues to strengthen the excellent foundation that I hope the finale builds on well 🙌 。。。more
