Summary

After the death of my mother and her Bonded, I was relieved to find my own Bonds。
I was sure everything would be okay if I had them。
It wasn’t。
The fate of our people is in my hands and I know we’re better off if I’m alone。
After five years on the run, I’m caught and dragged back to face the men I ran away from。
I thought I was doing the right thing。
Now, I’m not so sure。
North, Nox, Gryphon, Atlas, and Gabe may never forgive me but one thing is for sure。
I won’t ever forgive myself。

*Broken Bonds is a full length reverse harem PNR novel with material that may be difficult for some readers。 This book will end on a cliffhanger。 It's recommended for 18+ due to language and sexual situations。

abusive slow burn, mixed feelings There are some editing issues: a few typos, missing punctuation, etc。 I noticed the issues, but they weren’t enough to upset or overly distract me。 First off, this book started with a bang, and for the first 30%, I truly couldn’t understand why most people only gave it 4-stars。 Imo, the majority of book reviewers highly overrate books。 I see way, way too many 3-star books rolling in with heaps of 5-star reviews when there’s massive editing issues, plot inconsist abusive slow burn, mixed feelings There are some editing issues: a few typos, missing people only gave it 4-stars。 Imo, the majority of book reviewers highly overrate books。 I see way, way too many 3-star books rolling in with heaps of 5-star reviews when there’s massive editing issues, plot inconsistencies, plot holes, underdeveloped characters, weak/boring/stereotypical plots, etc。 So, when this book started out both written and edited well, with the plot interesting and compelling, and an early introduction of potentially great characters, I wondered why the majority of the reviews were only 4-stars?But…now I get it。 (no spoilers)Now that I’ve finished book one, I think the 4-star reviews are actually over-selling this first book, and that’s primarily due to the characters。 Oli is very powerful, but she has to hide her gifts from everyone around her。 We don’t really know what she can do, it’s so smothered and locked down inside her。 That’s for a reason, as we quickly find out。 However, that doesn’t mean Oli should be a doormat…and yet, she is。 She’s a baffling and infuriating study of contradictions。 Oli acts tough, because she is tough, but she allows her bonds to talk to her, handle her, and treat her obscenely and despicably。 It’s horrific。 Her group of “bonds” are the most self-serving, self-centered, immature, chauvinistic pricks I’ve read in a while。 Her bonds are supposed to protect and love her。 Bond pairs are not actually required to bond with each other。 There’s no law enforcing that。 Yet, these grown men assume they know better than her, when she was a 14 year old girl suffering from a horrible tragedy, and despite what truly little they know about what happened, they hold the “choice” she made as a 14 year old over her for years。 When the book starts, she’s now 19 (extremely mild spoilers—this all happens chapter one)。 Her adult bonds have her kidnapped, assaulted, hurt, imprisoned, starved for days on end, paralyzed and held down against her will while they cut her open and chip her like a dog, they then tell her how pathetic, gross, unattractive and vile she is—their 19 year old bond that they’ve never met a day in their lives。 Throughout the book, they take ALL of her free will, autonomy and choices from her。 They keep her locked up, broke with no money and completely refusing to provide for her to the point she can’t even buy tampons or midol or food, they tap her phone, treat her like a disgusting object, sneer at her, CONSTANTLY flaunt their lovers in front of her—so cruelly—on a daily basis。 They call her: a w h0 re, a useless burden, pro $ti tute, accuse her of selling herself on the streets (when they know absolutely nothing about her), they call her a gold digger, tell her she’s disgusting, vile, tr a mp, stupid and uneducated, that she’ll never amount to anything or be worthy of them, floozy, worthless, selfish, cold-hearted-b i t ch, homeless, cheap…it just goes on and on。 It never stops。Then, (mild spoiler here, because it’s honestly treated more like a blip in the book), one of her bonds physically and verbally attacks her。 He $ e x ua!!y assaults her, cho kes her, and then degrades her after, like she couldn’t even get being a$$aulted right。 And Oli does 👏NOTHING👏 to stop any of this treatment throughout the story。 In fact, she goes so far as to blame herself and make excuses for their inexcusable behavior。 It’s vile。 It’s infuriating。 It has me seeing red and seething, because LISTEN, if you’re going to try to convince us that your heroine is a tough baddie, don’t make her simultaneously into a doormat。 I believe J Bree wanted Oli to be complex and not cookie-cutter and straight forward, but all the author accomplished was to create a main character that makes ZERO sense。 Y’all, I was vibrating with fury over Oli just letting herself get walked all over, she does nothing to change or improve her situation, yet also acts like she’s such a tough chick。 I wanted to reach through my phone and throttle her。 It’s literally only the last 5% of this book that made it worth anything。 I can only hope and pray that Oli turns a corner in book two and there’s a crap ton of groveling that goes down, but based on book one, I don’t have high hopes。 Based off my rubric below, technically this should be a 2-star book for me, however, the last 5% were interesting enough that I will try to read book two, which bumps the overall score up to 3-stars。 (out of 5)Romance: ❤️Steam: 0Plot: ✍️✍️✍️Characters: 👤👤 Prose/Editing: 📝📝📝📝 。。。more

I love everything about this book! The writing in this is superb。 I was hooked from the first paragraph。 The h is flawed but she doesn't take crap from anyone。 I live that she's been given a friend as strong as she is。 I can't wait for the next book。 I love everything about this book! Dnf'd at chapter 6。 Really couldn't take the main character anymore and was extremely bored。。。 Cool concept just wish it had better execution。 I wish she knew more angry expressions than "f*ck"。 Dnf'd at chapter 6。 Really couldn't take the main character anymore and was extremely bored。。。 Cool concept just wish it had better execution。 I wish she knew more angry expressions than "f*ck"。 。。。more

I’ll read the next one to see the reverse harem come to fruition Some hot dudes。 A very YA-feeling MC。 Promise of smut to come。 I’ll read the next one only bc it’s on KU and I think it’ll be a fun, brainless way to enjoy some lighthearted spice。

Okay I know that many people love this series but I just didn't like it and that's my rating is so low。 I feel like this book was so hyped up and it wasn't what I thought it would be and that's why I didn't like it。 Okay I know that many people love this series but I just didn't like it and that's my rating is so low。 I feel like this book was so hyped up and it wasn't what I thought it would be and that's why I didn't like it。 。。。more

Ms Bree! What did you inject into this book?! 437 pages, all within 8 hours。 Thank god this series is complete otherwise I would have to sedate myself

Alex Patterson

The first half of this book was so repetitive。 It also didn’t go into detail on a lot of things, like what is a bond and their bonds until middle/end of the book。 I’m glad I stuck through and finished it because I am hooked and will continue to read。

This was my first time reading a reverse harem, and I don't know what J。Bree puts in her writing but I am hooked on this series。 Almost everything about this book is 5 stars。 The writing - AmazingThe Plot - Fast moving and it sucks you in The characters - Each are complex with their own storiesThis is one of those books where not only do you want to know about the main character, but you wish the side characters had a spin off。 On top of that, Oli is everything I look for in a MC。 She's funny, t This was my first time reading a reverse harem, and I don't know what J。Bree puts in her writing but I am hooked on this series。 Almost everything about this book is 5 stars。 The writing - AmazingThe Plot - Fast moving and it sucks you in The characters - Each are complex with their own storiesThis is one of those books where not only do you want to know about the main character, but you wish the side characters had a spin off。 On top of that, Oli is everything I look for in a MC。 She's funny, tough, girlboss, and sensitive。 She has her own quirks and it makes her relatable。 The only thing I would have liked was a bit more drama。 Oli is a bit of a pushover when it comes to those close to her, even when they're wrong。 She's got a bit of a "I deserve it" complex, and I wish I had seen her push back a little more。 。。。more

Well well a new RH novel series of the year and this storyline has me hooked and completely invested。 The fact that the novel is not just mindless sex is a great point but the bully romance kind of theme irks the hell out of me。I seriously hope that the strong female lead doesn't take all this shit lightly and that the storyline just gets more better。 I just want a few answers that I'm sure I'll get soon and damn I swear the anticipation for the next book is just making this better。 Well well a new RH novel series of the year and this storyline has me hooked and completely invested。 The fact that the novel is not just mindless sex is a great point but the bully romance kind of theme irks the hell out of me。I seriously hope that the strong female lead doesn't take all this shit lightly and that the storyline just gets more better。 I just want a few answers that I'm sure I'll get soon and damn I swear the anticipation for the next book is just making this better。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 For the over all series (more like 3。5/ 5)I felt like the brothers being rich was a cop out for half the problems the series ran into。 I also felt the all the boys were a little one dimensial in their “jock” or “jealous guy” characters。 Sex scenes were fun but they were pretty fast! I didn’t love olleander but I didn’t hate her either。 Plot for a little predictable further into the series but it was still a fun series overall!!

I feel like my younger self would eat this book up, but now, I am probably not the target audience for it anymore。 I still quite enjoyed it because it was a quick and easy read, but the inner monologue of the main character was quite annoying。 I am curious where it goes next, so I’ll continue with the series, but I don’t have high hopes。

If you told me that this was the first book that this author wrote。。。 in freshman year of highschool。。。 then published it without editing, I would believe you。 The story line, characters, scenes, vocabulary are all very immature。 The tone of the book is early 2000's Hillary Duffy meets valley girl meets Bella Swan。 The only reason I did not DNF this book after chapter 1 was for my book club。 Any book that says the word Rape that many times in the first couple of chapters already starts on my bad If you told me that this was the first book that this author wrote。。。 in freshman year of highschool。。。 then published it without editing, I would believe you。 The story line, characters, scenes, vocabulary are all very immature。 The tone of the book is early 2000's Hillary Duffy meets valley girl meets Bella Swan。 The only reason I did not DNF this book after chapter 1 was for my book club。 Any book that says the word Rape that many times in the first couple of chapters already starts on my bad side。 I get it, there's a bond that is linked by sex (very original) and they want to be bonded, blah blah blah。 But come on。 Then she barely brings it up until way later in the book when Nox actually assaults her。 If I'm in situation where I'm worried about rape, I'm going to continue to be worried about it, it's not going to just fall out of my head。 I cannot stand books that put so much weight on rape the way that this author did。 There is a correct and helpful way to write about rape and sexual assault, this isn't it。 There were some stupid inconsistencies in the storyline that an editor could have/should have caught。 The ones that really annoyed me were the days of the week。 Do the students have class on Saturday and Sunday? She wrote that after their first "bond dinner" at North's house on a Friday, she had class the next day。 I know this is a bonded/gifted centered college, but it probably runs on a somewhat normal schedule。 Later she says after the basement trial that she had to cancel plans with Sage to have pizza and a study night, but she has TT on Fridays and those Bonded Dinners are on Fridays。 These are not big, consequential details of the storyline but they took me out of the story。I will not finish this series and I would never suggest it to anyone。 。。。more
