Summary

For fans of Outlander, New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’ newest installment of the Highland Brides series brings us a sweeping tale of passion as a laird’s swim in a loch leads to the love of a lifetime。

An invigorating swim in the loch was exactly what Calan Campbell, Laird of Kilcairn, needed after defeating his enemies in battle。 What he didn’t need was a thief running away with his plaid while he swam。 Calan gave chase and managed to catch the lad, only the lad turned out to be a lass, and obviously a lady。 Having hit her head when he’d tackled her to the ground, the woman was now unconscious and couldn’t explain how she had ended up bruised and naked in his woods。 He’d have to take her back to his castle and tend her wounds to learn that。

Kidnapped and forced to wed her clan’s enemy, Allissaid MacFarlane had risked death to escape。 But after a struggle over a plaid she tried to “borrow,” she awakens in a strange bed with a strange man seated in a chair beside her。 Unsure if he is friend or foe, she claims not to remember her own name or how she’d come to be in the clearing。 However, the more time she spends with Calan, the more she falls for this strong, honorable laird。 She soon decides she can trust him with her life。 。 。 but can she trust him with her heart

This is the latest addition in Lynsay Sands series and at this point the stories are pretty clear cut。 I enjoy the series for it's humor, seeing old characters, and just being in a Highland setting with men in kilts。 While In Her Highlander's Bed did fulfil the above, I truly did not enjoy how the female lead was in physical pain for most of the book。 Pain that was so terrible she had difficulty moving, and yet she was still in such pain when the male lead lost his head to lust??? *scratches hea This is the latest addition in Lynsay Sands series and at this point the stories are pretty clear cut。 I enjoy the series for it's humor, seeing old characters, and just being in a Highland setting with men in kilts。 While In Her Highlander's Bed did fulfil the above, I truly did not enjoy how the female lead was in physical pain for most of the book。 Pain that was so terrible she had difficulty moving, and yet she was still in such pain when the male lead lost his head to lust??? *scratches head*。 I did not enjoy that at all and it colored the rest of the book for me。Overall, this book worked for me until it did not。A huge thanks to Avon and Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC。 。。。more

I enjoy the author's Argeneau series and a few years or so ago had read some of her earlier historical romances enjoying them (highly rating a number of them) but for some reason never started her more recent series of which this is the latest installment。 The plot of this story appealed as did getting back into a more medieval-ish period historical so was happy when got the chance to read an ARC of it。 While it does work as a stand-a-lone novel, i think it would have been better enjoyed if I ha I enjoy the author's Argeneau series and a few years or so ago had read some of her earlier historical romances enjoying them (highly rating a number of them) but for some reason never started her more recent series of which this is the latest installment。 The plot of this story appealed as did getting back into a more medieval-ish period historical so was happy when got the chance to read an ARC of it。 While it does work as a stand-a-lone novel, i think it would have been better enjoyed if I had read the prior (at least) book as some of the characters, dynamics, and issues seem to have been introduced then。 The story didn't disappoint。 it is well written and moves along a decent pace。 both Calan and Allissaid are smart, capable, and likeable characters and well matched。 However, for me, there was still some disconnect in the story that kept me being fully pulled in as I hoped。 I'm not sure just what it was -- that I hadn't read the prior books, some minor plot point(s) or some other unrelated item。 I do feel it is more a "me thing" than a "book thing" and therefore I would still recommend the book to someone looking for a sexy highlander story with smart characters, steady pace, some humor and a sweet romance。arc courtesy of net galley in exchange for a fair and honest review 。。。more

I enjoyed this book very much。 The chemistry between the characters are right。 I really like how they laugh and joke and generally enjoy each others company without the constant mistrust or one or the other always making the other think something bad about the other。 This whole series has been exciting to read。

The book ties into book 10 because of the sister from the previous book。 Allissaid returns as the villain as though he didn't get enough from the previous book。 In the beginning this book was a little slow and that's shocking because I'm in love with this historical series。 Calan was a character because of his shyness and was a sweetheart。 The romance was amazing and so so sweet。。 The books other side characters were a pleasant read in the book。 Its a beautiful feisty happily ever after! Terrific book with a great balance of romance and suspense。 This book picks up where the previous book (Highland Wolf) ends。 Allissaid MacFarlane is the sister of the heroine in that book, and when the villain in that book is foiled, he immediately kidnaps Allissaid to continue his efforts to steal her family's lands。 Allissaid is no meek-hearted miss and risks her life to escape, even though she's badly injured。 When she attempts to steal, umm。。 borrow a plaid left on the shore of the loch, its Terrific book with a great balance of romance and suspense。 This book picks up where the previous book (Highland Wolf) ends。 Allissaid MacFarlane is the sister of the heroine in that book, and when the villain in that book is foiled, he immediately kidnaps Allissaid to continue his efforts to steal her family's lands。 Allissaid is no meek-hearted miss and risks her life to escape, even though she's badly injured。 When she attempts to steal, umm。。 borrow a plaid left on the shore of the loch, its owner catches her, and in the struggle, she loses consciousness。Calan is taking a quick dip in the loch when he sees a lad running off with his plaid。 However, once he tackles the lad, he discovers the lad is a lass and a lady。 Because she's unconscious and to protect her reputation, he sneaks her into his room at the castle。 He'll straighten things out once she's awake and he knows who she is。 When she awakens, Allissaid has no idea if she's in the home of a friend or foe, so she pretends she doesn't remember anything, including who she is。 Calan's instincts to protect are aroused, and he's determined to keep her safe。I enjoyed watching the relationship develop between Allissaid and Calan。 Since his father's death eight years earlier, Calan has been busy learning to be a laird and taking care of his lands and people, with neither time nor inclination to look for a wife。 But Allissaid drew his interest from the start, and I loved seeing this tough Highland warrior show his softer side as she wormed her way into his heart。 It doesn't take long for Allissaid to realize that Calan is an honorable man and that she can trust him。Most of the book's action occurs in Calan's bedroom, where Allissaid is hidden to keep her presence secret until MacNaughton can be dealt with。 Calan won my heart with his sensitivity, from the late-night snack scene to his understanding of her fears for her family。 He falls for her more every day and is soon determined to have her for his own。 Allissaid falls equally hard for him and starts hoping he feels the same。 There are some blatant matchmaking vibes from Calan's mother and sister, so it's no surprise their growing attraction puts them into a compromising situation with predictable consequences。 There is a hilarious scene with Calan and his mother regarding the wedding night, and Calan's reactions had me laughing out loud。 The ending was fantastic, and I look forward to seeing more of them in future books。The story's suspense was good, keeping Allissaid's danger present without overwhelming the romance。 The more we hear about MacNaughton's actions and intentions, the more Allissaid's peril is evident。 Calan and his family have had issues with MacNaughton and are determined to keep her safe。 I liked seeing the steps taken to mitigate the threat and how clan relationships and alliances make that possible。 There is suspicion that MacNaughton has spies planted in the various households, intensifying the need for secrecy。 The final confrontation was a nail-biter as an unexpected (by them) player entered the game and put Allissaid in danger。 The ending was well done, with Calan to the rescue。The secondary characters were terrific, too。 I liked Calan's sister Inghinn。 Like Allissaid, she is intelligent and strong。 I liked her quick understanding of the danger Allissaid was in and her efforts to keep her safe。 I laughed at her mother's blatant matchmaking attempts with Alick and am interested in seeing if anything comes of it。 Calan's mother was great。 I liked her obvious caring for Allissaid and wasn't surprised at her attempts to bring her and Calan together。 It was fun to see Calan's confusion when she didn't react as he expected her to。 Calan's cousin and best friend, Gille, had an intriguing backstory, and I'd love to see him get his own story。 I loved seeing more Buchanans and hearing about other clans and characters from earlier books。#netgalley 。。。more

Unfortunately, I don't think this author is for me。 I didn't love the writing style which really hurt the story for me。 I prefer first person narration in my romance novels, and the dual third person of this one made me feel distanced from the story and the characters。 I also felt like this could have been shorter or some things could have been cut for additional scenes。 Some passages or aspects of the book were repeated so many times。 The characters also felt the need to continually explain the Unfortunately, I don't think this author is for me。 I didn't love the writing style which really hurt the story for me。 I prefer first person narration in my romance novels, and the dual third person of this one made me feel distanced from the story and the characters。 I also felt like this could have been shorter or some things could have been cut for additional scenes。 Some passages or aspects of the book were repeated so many times。 The characters also felt the need to continually explain their every thought on every situation。 Usually, I would want in-depth character feelings, but it was the same situation getting explored throughout the whole book。 This ended up just feeling like telling not showing for the character's sake。 The characters were fine, but I just couldn't connect to them or their relationship。 The relationship also felt surface level after they got together which is strange because I tend to see the opposite in most romance novels。 The plot and setting were fine but nothing unique。 I read this quickly which I appreciate。 Sad to say this was not a new favorite historical romance。 However, if you love Lynsay Sands then I don't see why you wouldn't have a good time with this one。 。。。more

Calan Campbell, Laid of Kilcairn was just hoping for a quick morning swim, not a thief making off with his plaid while he was in the loch。 Catching the lad and retrieving his plaid was no issue, but when he discovers he’s just inadvertently tackled a young woman, leaving her unconscious, and unable to explain how she came to be bruised from head to toe and naked in his woods, he realizes he must take her back to his own castle so she can heal, and he can get some answers。Lady Allissaid MacFarlan Calan Campbell, Laid of Kilcairn was just hoping for a quick morning swim, not a thief making off with his plaid while he was in the loch。 Catching the lad and retrieving his plaid was no issue, but when he discovers he’s just inadvertently tackled a young woman, leaving her unconscious, and unable to explain how she came to be bruised from head to toe and naked in his woods, he realizes he must take her back to his own castle so she can heal, and he can get some answers。Lady Allissaid MacFarlane risked her life to escape the tower her family’s enemy had locked her in after forcing a sham marriage on her。 After struggling over a plaid she hoped to borrow, she wakes in an unfamiliar room with an unfamiliar man seated next to her。 Not knowing if he’s a friend to her clan or to their enemy, she claims to have lost her memory in order to gain herself some time to learn where his allegiances lie。 But the more time she spends talking with Calan, the more Allissaid realizes he’s a caring, honorable man she could fall for, someone she’s quickly come to trust with her life。If you’re a fan of Sands’ style of highland hijinks, this should be another hit for you。 This story was very simple, a quick read with a pretty readily identifiable villain, but I was immersed in it quickly and found it to be a page turner for me。 I adore the protector heroes and it’s even better if they’re highlanders and the heroine has been injured or run into some sort of trouble from which she needs saving。 I know this is old school of me, but I just don’t care; it’s the ultimate escape for me and I love it。 I think it does need to be said that Allissaid did feel a bit flat to me as a heroine, without too many original thoughts coming from her, but I was happy enough with this being a light read that it didn’t much bother me。 Calan was pretty adorable as the strong, silent type of hero who came out of his shell a bit around Allissaid and became charming and likable。 There’s some mystery here and a villain, but this is still a low angst, slow burn story and I really enjoyed the escape it provided for me, and I’ll keep hoping for more installments to the series。I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 Blog link: https://mustreadalltheromance。blogspo。。。 。。。more

This book did not work for me, and I am so surprised given that I loved the last two books in this series。 This book just started off agonizingly slow, which I thought may be related to a recent book hangover but eventually came to terms with the fact that it was definitely the pacing of the book。 There were moments that peaked my interest, and I do love the hurt/comfort trope, which was HEAVY in this book。 The hero carried around the heroine a lot, and one of those times is when they had a very This book did not work for me, and I am so surprised given that I loved the last two books in this series。 This book just started off agonizingly slow, which I thought may be related to a recent book hangover but eventually came to terms with the fact that it was definitely the pacing of the book。 There were moments that peaked my interest, and I do love the hurt/comfort trope, which was HEAVY in this book。 The hero carried around the heroine a lot, and one of those times is when they had a very swoonworthy first kiss。 Unfortunately, it just wasn't enough to save this book in my eyes。The heroine spends over half the book completely covered in bruises。 Bruises that are SO painful that she can barely walk, stand for more than a minute or two, and she can't even get herself up out of the bathtub。 At one point she is swollen, bruised and crying in pain that the hero takes her to the cold loch to help get the swelling down。 And that was the scene where the author lost me。 He proceeds to kiss her, then claim he shouldn't given her pain, and within a sentence or two seemingly changes his mind。 He starts fondling her, kissing her supposedly bruised and painful breasts, and then brings her to orgasm which OF COURSE causes her even more pain。 The author tries to play this off like the heroine is totally fine with this and experiences pleasure。。。which I'm sure she does, but what hero decides that taking advantage of an obviously vulnerable, injured woman is a good idea? He couldn't wait a week or two until she is more healed? Seriously?I did push through to finish this book, because it's Lynsay Sands and I thought she could redeem herself。 But nope, still didn't work for me。 It was definitely a shame, and I hope the next book is better。**I received a free copy via NetGalley, and this is my honest review。** 。。。more

I love a good Scottish Highlander romance。 Calan and Allisaid have an interesting way that they meet, and right after, the story takes off。 Lynsay Sands brings her familiar style of flare, kidnappings, romance, and a handsome protective Laird。 There is something comforting about this series, something relaxing and easy。 After I’ve read a heavy, world building Fantasy, I need a softer book。 One that still draws me and stays interest—and this one does just that。

The story was really good and kept me interested throughout。 While she is supposed to stay in the the boundaries of her castle so she is not kidnapped by an enemy clan, Allisaid steps out of the safety of her own home to find her brother, and ends up waking up with a hot Scot named Calum watching over her。 He's saved her from a clan plotting against her family, and they end up finding a simmering attraction between each other。 The stor This is my first Lynsay Sands book, and I really enjoyed it! The descriptiveness is great-- I felt like I could picture what was happening as I read。 I really liked In Her Highlander's Bed! This is in the tail end of a series of Highland Brides, but could be read as a standalone。 I'll definitely be reading more Lynsay Sands, this was a fun read!I received this book as an ARC for Netgalley for my honest opinion。 If you like HR and especially intriguing Scottish HRs, this will be up your alley! 。。。more

In Her Highlander's Bed is the 11th installment in the "Highland Brides" series。 From the moment that I saw this beauty I knew that I just had to read it。 There is something so endearing about the way that this author has written this series。 There is such great family connection in this one here。 It was so charming to see the way that this story came together。 Lynsay Sands definitely wrote a treasure。 So if you are a fan of the series or just the author, you will have a fun time with it。 In Her In Her Highlander's Bed is the 11th installment in the "Highland Brides" series。 From the moment that I saw this beauty I knew that I just had to read it。 There is something so endearing about the way that this author has written this series。 There is such great family connection in this one here。 It was so charming to see the way that this story came together。 Lynsay Sands definitely wrote a treasure。 So if you are a fan of the series or just the author, you will have a fun time with it。 In Her Highlander's Bed is where our hero is enjoying a cold bath in the Loch, having recently recovered from a arrow wound to the chest。 But when he sees someone trying to steal his clothing, he chases them and discovers its a woman posing as a boy。 He brings her to his castle, to help her with her injuries where amnesia is present。 As Calen is determined to figure out the truth, there is an endearing chemistry that is building between them。 But the secrets come out and soon they might have to come together to protect those that they love。 In Her Highlander's Bed we have such an interesting romance and I know that Amnesia might throw some readers off, but its short, and not dragged out throughout the story。 I really enjoyed both of these characters here, they had such a good bond。 I loved the highlander feel to the story and the focus on the clans and the laws with the King, it was really interesting。 Lynsay Sands did such a good job with it。 The romance was so delightful though, they had powerful chemistry and are so caring towards each other。 And once they get on with the smexy times, it really hits just right for them。 The family connection is so solid and well loved throughout the story。 I really enjoyed seeing this serial arc that the author implemented and I am so curious to see the author do more for Calan's family。 Overall I found In Her Highlander's Bed to be a vibrant and sexy historical that delivered in such a solid way。 Its packed with plenty of thrills, packs a sensual punch and portrays a powerful romance to fall so easy in love with! 。。。more

To say Lynsay Sands is one of my favorite authors is an understatement。 Her books are buy and keep for me。 However, when I saw this was available for review on Netgalley I leaped at the chance to get it。I am not sure if I read the previous book, but maybe I didn't do my Goodreads review, but even though this is 11th in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone。The heroine is very brave and the hero just adorable, a laird who really respects his mother。 The heroine is smart and quick thinking, as To say Lynsay Sands is one of my favorite authors is an understatement。 Her books are buy and keep for me。 However, when I saw this was available for review on Netgalley I leaped at the chance to get it。I am not sure if I read the previous book, but maybe I didn't do my Goodreads review, but even though this is 11th in a series, it can be read as a stand-alone。The heroine is very brave and the hero just adorable, a laird who really respects his mother。 The heroine is smart and quick thinking, as well as brave。 She and Calan are really perfect for each other。There isn't as much of a mystery as in the previous books, but some tension on waiting for the villain to reappear。 I only had one small quibble as Sands uses the phrase "not a fan of pain" twice in the book, and the anachronism jumped out at me。 Otherwise, the dialogue is fine。 Thanks to NetGalley and them publisher for providing this EARC。 I will now go and find book 10。 。。。more

Lynsay Sands' Highland Brides series is one of my favorites to read。 They can each be read as standalones, but the characters carry over to each other's stories and reading the other ones definitely helps you better understand what is happening。 Of this series, I have read 8 of the 11 books, which is actually quite a bit for me to have read in a historical romance series! This story focuses on Allissaid MacFarlane。 Her sister (who was the focus of the previous book) is happily married after an at Lynsay Sands' Highland Brides series is one of my favorites to read。 They can each be read as standalones, but the characters carry over to each other's stories and reading the other ones definitely helps you better understand what is happening。 Of this series, I have read 8 of the 11 books, which is actually quite a bit for me to have read in a historical romance series! This story focuses on Allissaid MacFarlane。 Her sister (who was the focus of the previous book) is happily married after an attempted kidnapping/forced marriage。 Allissaid and her sisters are told to be careful because the kidnapper may now turn his attentions to one of them so that he can move forward with his plot。 Allissaid ends up kidnapped anyways but manages to escape after being beaten badly。 She is then found and accidentally knocked unconscious by Calan Campbell, Laird of Kilcairn, who vows to protect her even before he knows who he is protecting her from。 The story moves on from there。 It is a very simple and cute love story between the main characters, and we meet some new characters and get to revisit some characters from previous books (and I believe the next book will be about a new character and a previously met one)。 I really do like the main characters in this series, especially the Buchanans and I look forward to reading more from this series!Thank you to #NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

The words sword, scabbard, blood and pain take on a whole new meaning in “In Her Highlander’s Bed”。 This is the latest novel in author Lynsay Sands “Highland Brides” series。 Calan and Allissaid are the most adorably compatible pair I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading。 In true Sands fashion, the author creates another intriguing tale of life in the Highlands。 Complete with the teasing wit and camaraderie her characters are known for。 Fans of the Buchanan brothers will be delighted to see a coup The words sword, scabbard, blood and pain take on a whole new meaning in “In Her Highlander’s Bed”。 This is the latest novel in author Lynsay Sands “Highland Brides” series。 Calan and Allissaid are the most adorably compatible pair I’ve ever had the pleasure of reading。 In true Sands fashion, the author creates another intriguing tale of life in the Highlands。 Complete with the teasing wit and camaraderie her characters are known for。 Fans of the Buchanan brothers will be delighted to see a couple of them make an appearance in support of their cousin。 You don’t want to miss this one!My thanks to Avon & Harper Voyager and NetGalley for the ARC。 This is my honest review。 。。。more
