This is one of my favourite Julia Donaldson books。I think I enjoy the story so much because basically its a story of kindness。

Each reader of this book will recognise that no matter your size, wealth or knowledge you’re unique。 George wishes he wasn’t the scruffiest giant in town and as the book progresses he begins to look for a smarter attire。 George bumps into friends along the way and they need his help。 Children in early years enjoyed being read this book。 They noticed the kindness George offered to his friends along the way!

I loved this book。 It has a great rhyme to it and the children (Year 3 and Year 4) loved joining in。 Very catchy and fun but also teaches us that we should all be kind and caring to each other。

Another lovely story from Donaldson。 The reader follows the giant on his journey home, encountering animals in need along the way and gifting his clothes in an effort to help them。 A fun way of spreading a message about the importance of helping others and sharing what we have set to rhythmic lines in a great children's book。 Another lovely story from Donaldson。 The reader follows the giant on his journey home, encountering animals in need along the way and gifting his clothes in an effort to help them。 A fun way of spreading a message about the importance of helping others and sharing what we have set to rhythmic lines in a great children's book。 。。。more

Loved this book! Another great book from Julia Donaldson which insinuates as to how at Giant’s appearance starts to become less important when he looks out for others。 Ideal for Reception-Year 2。

George, a giant with some scruffy clothes, purchases a spiffy set of new clothes。 As he heads back home, he comes across various animals in need of help。 At each meeting, he gifts them an article of clothing to help them。。。until he has no more spiffy clothes! He returns to the store, and finds his old clothes, which he now realizes are actually quite comfy, and he learns that he is the kindest giant around。

This story is humorous and engaging。 I think it would be suitable for children in Key Stage 1 as there are lots of pictures as well as sentences。 The story begins when George the Giant decides he doesn't want to be scruffiest giant in town therefore he goes to the shop to buy some extra large clothes that will fit his huge body。 On his way home he encounters a few animals that need an item of clothing each。 The giant, who was very generous, kindly gave away his new clothes。 He ends up not being This story is humorous and engaging。 I think it would be suitable for children in Key Stage 1 as there are lots of pictures as well as sentences。 The story begins when George the Giant decides he doesn't want to be scruffiest giant in town therefore he goes to the shop to buy some extra large clothes that will fit his huge body。 On his way home he encounters a few animals that need an item of clothing each。 The giant, who was very generous, kindly gave away his new clothes。 He ends up not being the smartest giant in town but the kindest one!I think this story teaches children about kindness and looking out for other people。 This book could be used as a topic focus for English as it has lots of potential for story writing and discussions。 。。。more

Just as good as the Gruffalo and that Saying Something。

This book is so adorable。 George the giant is helpful in town。 He shares his clothes with the community to help them out。 For example, George gave his long tie to a giraffe to be used as a scarf。 Then he used his shirt as a sail for a rabbit's sail boat after the sail was blown away in a storm。The illustration are so detailed and cute as well。 I love this story and would definitely use it in my future classroom。 This book is so adorable。 George the giant is helpful in town。 He shares his clothes with the community to help them out。 For example, George gave his long tie to a giraffe to be used as a scarf。 Then he used his shirt as a sail for a rabbit's sail boat after the sail was blown away in a storm。The illustration are so detailed and cute as well。 I love this story and would definitely use it in my future classroom。 。。。more

This was a sweet book about a giant who gives away his new spiffy clothes a piece at a time to help strangers in need。

I like this book because I really enjoyed reading this book to my siblings。This book shows that the giant is really kind and because of his kindness he got a present from the animals he had helped。 I really enjoyed reading this book to myself too。

I am currently reading a lot of children books due to homeschooling and this book was really lovely! Both my kids and I enjoyed it :)

A lovely story about a scruffy giant who buys himself some smart new clothes, but on his travels he meets various needy animals to whom he donates his clothes, so he has to return to his scruffy clothes but has made lots of new friends。 There is a song repeated and added to throughout which children will love singing along to。

Rachel Hinds

Lovely book, featuring rhyming words and poetry。Themes: kindness, charity, no need of material possessions, friendship, generosity

Lauren

A lovely vibrant picture book suitable for young readers about a kind giant called George who trades in his patched up gown for a smart new outfit。 He stumbles across many of his animal friends along the way who are in need of his help。 Young readers would enjoy the rhyming and lovely illustrations。 Perhaps useful when talking about acts of kindness and friendship or helping one another。

Hartverwarmend mooi en lief verhaal。 Erg lekker voor te lezen door de herhaling en de rijm erin。

Amy

We love this book in our house。 Lots of characters to do some fun voices for and love how the poem builds as the story progresses。 Some childish humour to keep the kids entertained and a lovely message about being humble and helping others in need。

i personally love any book with rhyme and the illustrations are very good。 As an author myself i love Julia Donaldson's books。 would also recommend others to read as there should always be a message/moral in story books。 i personally love any book with rhyme and the illustrations are very good。 As an author myself i love Julia Donaldson's books。 would also recommend others to read as there should always be a message/moral in story books。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Of the many, many books I read with my toddler, I find myself pondering The Smartest Giant In Town a lot。 Some might call it overthinking。 1。 Just why is George the scruffiest giant in town in the first place? It's obviously not about money; as soon as a suitable shop opens locally, he's straight in there。 If it's about availability, where do the other giants get their clothes from?2。 When you have spent many an afternoon poring over every town scene because your child can't get enough of the "W Of the many, many books I read with my toddler, I find myself pondering The Smartest Giant In Town a lot。 Some might call it overthinking。 1。 Just why is George the scruffiest giant in town in the first place? It's obviously not about money; as soon as a suitable shop opens locally, he's straight in there。 If it's about availability, where do the other giants get their clothes from?2。 When you have spent many an afternoon poring over every town scene because your child can't get enough of the "Who's wearing glasses? How many people have hats?" type game, you get to know the detail very well。 And what a mad jumble of details there are。 The style of dress is from all sorts of eras, ranging from medieval to regency to the modern day - there's a rabbit talking on a mobile phone! George himself goes from a gown of a generic olden times style to, bizarrely, the outfit of a middle manager。 3。 There is a definite hierarchy in the needs of the animals our hero meets and far be it from me to question someone else's charitable instincts, but George might want to be a bit more discerning about who he literally gives the shirt off his back to。Mouse family's house has burnt down? That's some understandable distress。 Fox drops his sleeping bag in a puddle? Are you kidding me? Get a grip, Fox! At the very least, George could have just bought a more suitable item of clothing for the cold giraffe given he was RIGHT OUTSIDE the clothes shop。 (Also, that giraffe is a very confusing height。 Too big to be a normal giraffe, too small to be a giant one。)4。 I am hung up on why the dog needs to cross the bog in the first place。 The back cover seems to suggest it's for a picnic, and if that's the case then this is even less deserving than the fox's damp camping gear。 But giving the dog the benefit of the doubt (sick relative to deliver food to, Little Red Riding Hood style?), couldn't George just have carried the dog over? He can't have needed to go for long, given he was back in time for the big finale。I like the story, I like the illustrations, there's a lot of depth to it。 It's not like any other child's picture book has a water-tight plot but for some reason, the questions I have about The Smartest Giant In Town torment me。 。。。more

Another classic from the inimitable duo that is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (of The Gruffalo fame)。 This one a wonderful endorsement of generosity。 How wonderful it feels to be able to help others and share what we have! We never need as many fancy material possessions as we think we do。 There's a lesson in here for all of us, including the adults。 Great fun to read aloud and even sing in parts。 Another classic from the inimitable duo that is Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler (of The Gruffalo fame)。 This one a wonderful endorsement of generosity。 How wonderful it feels to be able to help others and share what we have!
