i love Ryuk more than anything else

A five star book got swallowed。 Too long by as much as 1/2, but the main premise and execution are great。

My last book of the year! I may not have read 50 books, but I also didn’t expect to have my last book be 2400 pages long!I’ve seen about half of the anime and it was fun to read the book, but I also do see why I stopped when I stopped。 The last arc of the book, while satisfying, still feels pretty repetitive and like they are grasping for straws on who to add in etc。

Absolutely mind blowing!

loved it。 at some parts it did get repetitive though。 overall i think it was great

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I got spoiled 1000 pages in about the death of Light so it really made me not want to read it。 However, I was able to finish it and it was amazing! If I wasn’t spoiled, it would have been 5 stars。

You know when a grimdark character is well-crafted and fully realized, when you’re appalled by his actions, but still root for him throughout the entire series。 Kira is one of those characters and Death Note definitely a masterpiece that everyone should read!

Oh god - it was WAY too long。 It could have been narrowed down。 The concept was great though。 This book is basically a "what if death notes existed" kind of thing。 I love that the government got involved and cults were made in honor of Kira。 Oh god - it was WAY too long。 It could have been narrowed down。 The concept was great though。 This book is basically a "what if death notes existed" kind of thing。 I love that the government got involved and cults were made in honor of Kira。 。。。more

This series was absolutely PERFECT and AMAZING。 No, that is an understatement。 I’ve watched the show and it’s one of my all time favorite TV shows, but this was even better than the show。 I loved it so so much and it had the perfect ending。

Where the good guy becomes the bad guy and the bad guy becomes the good guy。。。 so many twists and turns and apple-loving Shinigami!

I would recomend this for people that like detective stories more then someone like me that was hopping for something with more fantasy。(yeah there are supernatural things going on, but you as a reader are almost totally omnipresent so, no place for surprises and its a long game of mouse after cat)。 Drawings are great but i found the middle part of the book tedius to read)

I stopped reading at chapter 66 (page 1470)。 I may pick up this book again later on because I remember being so interested and so invested。 It’s just that it’s very psychological and I do not have the brain power to continue right now。 I believe that this manga is simply inappropriate for me at this time in my life and that’s okay。

A dramatic, action packed, hard to put down read。 It's not every day you read a book that keeps you engaged for the whole book that is full of action and moments that keep you guessing on what might happen next。 From the moment I started the book to the moment I finished it I enjoyed the book and never wanted to put it down because it was so interesting and I always wanted to know what would happen next due to all the mysteriousness of some chapters other chapters were kind of boring but they ma A dramatic, action packed, hard to put down read。 It's not every day you read a book that keeps you engaged for the whole book that is full of action and moments that keep you guessing on what might happen next。 From the moment I started the book to the moment I finished it I enjoyed the book and never wanted to put it down because it was so interesting and I always wanted to know what would happen next due to all the mysteriousness of some chapters other chapters were kind of boring but they made up for it because they added more action to the next few parts of the book。 in this action packed book Tsugumi Ohba captures the theme of setting yourself up for success even though saying that for a book like this may seem peculiar its true because he set him self up to be successful and got away with a lot of things he shouldn't have because he set himself up for success。 Above all else this book perpetuates that you should set yourself up for success so you don't fail。 The book paints a picture of how messed up society is and how easy it can be to change the mindset of others through simple actions so I would also argue that some of it is about how our society works。so I think the theme is quite complex because its not completely one thing its a mix of different things not one specific thing which is one of the other reasons I really enjoyed this book。I will most remember the part where Light first met Ryuk because it was funny how he pretended to be scared even though he could have cared less about seeing a demon。 this is an inherently action driven book because the action is the main thing that keeps it going and keeps the book interesting。 One thing I hope to apply to my life at one point is set yourself up for success because I don't do that usually even when I should, although I liked all of the action that the book had there wasn't any comedy which is fine but i like action books with comedy because they are funny and wild books。 the book does an exceptional job at keeping story consistent it doesn't have any parts that are more loose and laid back。 One question that needs to be asked at the end of the book is how did they make this story as fun to read as it is?even if I could change whether I read it or not I would pick read it because it was so amazing I loved the action I loved the characters and the personality that was included。 the book will mostly resonate with having cool characters and some of them teaming up unexpectedly。 readers should look forward to this it was an amazing read and I'm glad I read it, it's one of the only books that's able to keep me engaged the whole time。 。。。more

I've started watching the anime so many times, and then I'd get sidetracked - and a year or two later, I'd recommit to finishing the story。 It's got a premise and style that just sticks with you。 I needed to finish it。 I was pleasantly surprised to see that the anime basically had followed the manga frame for frame when I picked this up and in no time was immersed again。 I love plots that tease out ideas - in this case, the nature of "justice" and "righteousness" - and have you wrestling with yo I've started watching the anime so many times, and then I'd get sidetracked - and a year or two later, I'd recommit to finishing the story。 It's got a premise and style that just sticks with you。 I needed to finish it。 I was pleasantly surprised to see that the anime basically had followed the manga frame for frame when I picked this up and in no time was immersed again。 I love plots that tease out ideas - in this case, the nature of "justice" and "righteousness" - and have you wrestling with your own beliefs and moral boundaries。 I also loved the depiction of the shinigami - but who doesn't love a good Chaotic Neutral?! Where I struggled with the story-telling was the leaps in logic that every character who had a modicum of intelligence seemed to be capable of。 And the long, Bond-Villain-esque monologues revealing hatched plots。 I know I was reading several installments in close succession that would have been originally more spaced out for readers, so that probably added to my frustrations while reading。 At the end of the day, it's a great cat-and-mouse thriller, with some fun characters and lots to think about well after you finish reading。 。。。more

This reread was still so much fun, but I think I've had enough of this story for at least a few years from now。 Turns out reading the whole series all at once, in one go, makes it a very immersive and cohesive experience, but if you've already read it several times before, like I have, it gets a little tiresome。 Don't get me wrong, this is still one of my favourite series ever, and I love the way mostly everything plays out (yes, I've even gotten to enjoy Near and Mello), but nothing beats the f This reread was still so much fun, but I think I've had enough of this story for at least a few years from now。 Turns out reading the whole series all at once, in one go, makes it a very immersive and cohesive experience, but if you've already read it several times before, like I have, it gets a little tiresome。 Don't get me wrong, this is still one of my favourite series ever, and I love the way mostly everything plays out (yes, I've even gotten to enjoy Near and Mello), but nothing beats the feeling of experiencing this story for the first time。 P。S。 I don't feel like I can properly express how much I like this right now, so I'll write a proper review on it later on。 。。。more

Amazing book。 The artwork is impressive, and the story is something that will make you think up to the last page。 Also, the bonus chapter is impressive and I am happy to see it in English。 I already watched the anime, but the manga just made me more in love with this story。 Great story for anyone into deep questions or, just manga in general。

This was one of those series that I was interested in at it’s time of release in the US that, for various reasons, I was not able to read at the time。 I think my interest in manga and anime was waning as I entered late middle school, and the fact that this series was rated for “older teens” would have ensured that my parents wouldn’t have let me read it even if I hadn’t already been drifting away from the medium。 I’m older now, I have no qualms about reading anything that piques my interest, so This was one of those series that I was interested in at it’s time of release in the US that, for various reasons, I was not able to read at the time。 I think my interest in manga and anime was waning as I entered late middle school, and the fact that this series was rated for “older teens” would have ensured that my parents wouldn’t have let me read it even if I hadn’t already been drifting away from the medium。 I’m older now, I have no qualms about reading anything that piques my interest, so I set about reading this massive tome, likely the largest page count of any book that I’ve ever read。 That’s not to say that it’s difficult reading; on the contrary, Death Note read very quickly for me。 The art seemed more focused on pure functionality than the other manga I’ve read recently (Ito’s work and Berserk both put a heavier emphasis on originality and variation, I think), though of course the art still often left me really impressed。 The plot contains many twists and turns as the cat-and-mouse game contains on seemingly indefinitely, which leads to some extremely tense and interesting moments。 There were a few portions of the book that felt like they were dragging on, but I think that’s to be expected of a story of this scale。 I think Death Note raises some interesting moral and existential questions, of course, and while they aren’t necessarily completely novel ideas in their own right, it’a super cool to see them explored in a series that has some appeal to “younger” audiences。 I wonder how much the implications of Kira’s actions would have occurred to me if I had been able to read the series at 13, for example。 I dunno: I’m rambling here! It was an enjoyable read that I’d recommend to anybody interested。 I’m glad I made my way back to it。 。。。more
