***THE INSTANT New York Times Wall Street Journal, USA Today, and IndieBound BESTSELLER***

An NPR Book of the Day

Picking up where the New York Times bestselling Front Row at the Trump Show left off, this is the explosive look at the aftermath of the election--and the events that followed Donald Trump's leaving the White House all the way to January 6--from ABC News' chief Washington correspondent。

Nobody is in a better position to tell the story of the shocking final chapter of the Trump show than Jonathan Karl。 As the reporter who has known Donald Trump longer than any other White House correspondent, Karl told the story of Trump's rise in the New York Times bestseller Front Row at the Trump Show。 Now he tells the story of Trump's downfall, complete with riveting behind-the-scenes accounts of some of the darkest days in the history of the American presidency and packed with original reporting and on-the-record interviews with central figures in this drama who are telling their stories for the first time。

This is a definitive account of what was really going on during the final weeks and months of the Trump presidency and what it means for the future of the Republican Party, by a reporter who was there for it all。 He has been taunted, praised, and vilified by Donald Trump, and now Jonathan Karl finds himself in a singular position to deliver the truth。

Great book。 Very informative and an interesting look at the Trump Whitehouse。

I thought I knew just about everything about what had occurred…。yeah- not so much! I actually had to stop and read the paragraph about the Google Nest Thermostats out loud to my husband- I just couldn’t believe ANYONE could be that gullible。

Lost interest in this & returned it to library unfinished。 Sick of Trump。 Betrayer in Chief。 Loser。

Mary Newcomb

The account of interviews set in the lobby of Mar-A-Lago is the first signal that this book has a close view to what happened。 I know I should stop reading these books but I am somehow compelled to learn more。

MonsterIf you ever thought Donald Trump is not a monster, read this。 Karl's hard hitting summary of Trump's final year and its aftermath reveals more than a few surprises - none of them positive。 The fact that 74 million Americans voted for this one man horror show in plain view is astounding。 You learn about Johnny McEntee, the 30 year old human wrecking ball who became Trump's deputy president, who went about firing anyone who wasn't a die hard Trump supporter。 You learn about what some of Tru MonsterIf you ever thought Donald Trump is not a monster, read this。 Karl's hard hitting summary of Trump's final year and its aftermath reveals more than a few surprises - none of them positive。 The fact that 74 million Americans voted for this one man horror show in plain view is astounding。 You learn about Johnny McEntee, the 30 year old human wrecking ball who became Trump's deputy president, who went about firing anyone who wasn't a die hard Trump supporter。 You learn about what some of Trump's lukewarm GOP colleagues, like Moscow Mitch thought of Trump。 But most of all you learn what a monster Trump is from his words (he interviews Trump in March 2021) and actions。 And what you learn is worse than you thought。Karl strives for truth and objectivity and even tries to credit Trump with 'accomplishments' - like the vaccine, the Abraham Accords, the refried NAFTA deal and says his positive rating was 49% before Covid struck。 He says nothing about the tax cuts for the rich, the alienation of NATO and embrace of Putin, his massive Covid death toll responsibility, and the stacking of the Supreme Court with right wing lunatics (credited mostly to Moscow Mitch)。 But he pulls no punches over Trump's lies, character, criminal acts and lack of moral compass。 He writes well, so the book is readable (3 days for me) and vital。 The edition I read was reasonably up to date (paperback edition takes the January 6 committee hearings in brief)。Clearly though, the fault is not Trump's alone, but the hollowed out GOP and the deluded, rage filled 74 million voters who supported him。 America is not divided so much as it is riven with hate, and the monster in charge of that hate was and still is, Trump。 He is a stain on the underpants of American democracy and must be jailed。 。。。more

A quick read that is well-written。 If you are not completely exhausted hearing about former President Trump and January 6th, this is an interesting and objective book。

Jonathan Karl is a well respected journalist and had the inside scoop to Trump and his final days in office。 This is a riveting account on how close we actually lost on our democracy。 Every American should read this。

Not groundbreaking, but relatively informative and a straighforwardly chilling reminder that the 45th president of the USA is a traitor who literally tried to overthrow the government。The main things to watch out for is how claustrophobically self-aware the author is, and how artlessly he swallows and regurgitates the self-interested excuses of high-level officials who spent most or all of their time in office failing to stand up to, or even enabling, the gross violations of ethics, morality, an Not groundbreaking, but relatively informative and a straighforwardly chilling reminder that the 45th president of the USA is a traitor who literally tried to overthrow the government。The main things to watch out for is how claustrophobically self-aware the author is, and how artlessly he swallows and regurgitates the self-interested excuses of high-level officials who spent most or all of their time in office failing to stand up to, or even enabling, the gross violations of ethics, morality, and law that characterized the Donald presidency。 Probably not actively harmful to read, but make sure to have a bowl full of grains of salt handy for when he starts quoting un-factchecked Republican lines about how they were secret heroes who stood between America and the worst excesses of the incompetent, malicious narcissist they helped put into, and sustain in, office。 。。。more

Great review of the final days of unbelievable reign of terror that was Trump's so-called presidency。 Most of the details are well known but Karl does a brilliant job of illuminating the depth of incompetence surrounding some of the lesser knowns like Jonny McEntee the 29yo goof who went from Trump's factotum to improbably being given responsibility for managing the jobs of >4k political appointees i。e。, ambassadors etc。 His only qualification for the role was his good looks and unrelenting alle Great review of the final days of unbelievable reign of terror that was Trump's so-called presidency。 Most of the details are well known but Karl does a brilliant job of illuminating the depth of incompetence surrounding some of the lesser knowns like Jonny McEntee the 29yo goof who went from Trump's factotum to improbably being given responsibility for managing the jobs of >4k political appointees i。e。, ambassadors etc。 His only qualification for the role was his good looks and unrelenting allegiance to the narcissist- in-chief。 。。。more

In the second of two books about the presidency of Donald Trump, Jonathan Karl chronicles the assault on American democracy by the 45th President。 His final chapter asks questions that all Americans should ask themselves。 Karl's conclusions leave no doubt that he believes, as does this reader/reviewer, that the Republic was in great peril and that the man who led the Insurrection of January 6, 2021 has no remorse for what he did, for the lives he threatened, and for the lies that spurred not onl In the second of two books about the presidency of Donald Trump, Jonathan Karl chronicles the assault on American democracy by the 45th President。 His final chapter asks questions that all Americans should ask themselves。 Karl's conclusions leave no doubt that he believes, as does this reader/reviewer, that the Republic was in great peril and that the man who led the Insurrection of January 6, 2021 has no remorse for what he did, for the lives he threatened, and for the lies that spurred not only thousands to attack the Capitol, but convinced millions that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen from him。 I am giving the book a less than perfect rating because I thought some of the writing was a bit repetitious。 Also, while Karl quoted political officials who used profanity regularly, I don't think it was necessary for him to stoop to their level。 During my reading of this book, Trump declared his candidacy for President in the 2024 election。 This adds to the importance of Karl's reporting, for it is the responsibility of all of us to deny Trump another term as President。 Four stars waxing 。。。more

The author provided a significant amount of detail and first hand knowledge of the Trump White House。 He stuck to facts more than opinions and kept the story moving。

A good book to read。You are taken on a journey that you may or may not agree with what Trump says about the election , he knows he lost but he claims otherwise。 He has been brain washing people about his lie。 There were 5 people that had died on Jan 5 2021 , I guess that doesn't bother Trump and I guess that is fake news 。 The book gives a view on what was going on in the White house , the author did a good job with the book。 A good book to read。You are taken on a journey that you may or may not agree with what Trump says about the election , he knows he lost but he claims otherwise。 He has been brain washing people about his lie。 There were 5 people that had died on Jan 5 2021 , I guess that doesn't bother Trump and I guess that is fake news 。 The book gives a view on what was going on in the White house , the author did a good job with the book。 。。。more

A very good description of Fascism。Jonathan did a remarkable job of describing what Donald Trump is about。。。。his ego。 Nothing matters to him but himself。 Me, me, me is all he cares about, along with his money。 He is a disgusting excuse for a human being, who NEVER should have been elected!!!

This book is similar to several other books about former President Trump's last few months in office。 Much of the same territory is covered as Carol Leonnig's "I Alone Can Fix It" but Jonathan Karl shows just how close we came Jan 6th to losing our democracy。 He does an excellent job showing how Trump put wildly unqualified people in positions of power, with the only job requirement to root folks who were not loyal enough。 Some of the dialogue w/Trump is actually pretty funny, until you realize This book is similar to several other books about former President Trump's last few months in office。 Much of the same territory is covered as Carol Leonnig's "I Alone Can Fix It" but Jonathan Karl shows just how close we came Jan 6th to losing our democracy。 He does an excellent job showing how Trump put wildly unqualified people in positions of power, with the only job requirement to root folks who were not loyal enough。 Some of the dialogue w/Trump is actually pretty funny, until you realize the senior folks are trying to stop Trump from launching a war or crushing protestors。 Strongly recommended。 。。。more

Mildly interesting account of the catastrophe that was the last year of the Trump presidency, but, having read several of these, it did not seem to offer much that was different from the others。 There are a few nuggets in here; I didn’t know anything about the White House personnel takeover by McEntee。 There were a few other things that I didn’t know about, but mostly it is just those same facts that other journalists have covered。 One thing detracting from this book is it is written by a televi Mildly interesting account of the catastrophe that was the last year of the Trump presidency, but, having read several of these, it did not seem to offer much that was different from the others。 There are a few nuggets in here; I didn’t know anything about the White House personnel takeover by McEntee。 There were a few other things that I didn’t know about, but mostly it is just those same facts that other journalists have covered。 One thing detracting from this book is it is written by a television journalist。 Occasionally, this means the reader gets interesting tidbits about how television news works。 Who knew, when important news breaks, ABC has a system to essentially send something like a fax/text to every phone that you list as a possible contact, including Karl’s wive’s cell。 But mostly this just means that the writing is not as good as in books covering the same topic written by newspaper journalists。 At times, I found Karl’s writing plodding and a bit simplistic。 Not enough to stop reading, but, having already read other books on the same topic, it was noticeable。 。。。more

Mr。 Karl made the last few weeks of President Trump's time as President come alive。 It was probably the most exciting non-fiction I have read this year。 The anecdotal account of the accusations of a "stolen election" and the January 6th attack on the capitol are vivid and fresh。 This is a very controversial subject, but Mr。 Karl's presentation appears as fair as is humanly possible。 Mr。 Karl made the last few weeks of President Trump's time as President come alive。 It was probably the most exciting non-fiction I have read this year。 The anecdotal account of the accusations of a "stolen election" and the January 6th attack on the capitol are vivid and fresh。 This is a very controversial subject, but Mr。 Karl's presentation appears as fair as is humanly possible。 。。。more

4。5。 This was a hard book to listen to。 I have tried to give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt but I just can't。 I didn't like his lies and I certainly didn't like the way he chose to dump all over the peaceful transition of power after an election that he lost。 This book only added to those feelings。 4。5。 This was a hard book to listen to。 I have tried to give Donald Trump the benefit of the doubt but I just can't。 I didn't like his lies and I certainly didn't like the way he chose to dump all over the peaceful transition of power after an election that he lost。 This book only added to those feelings。 。。。more

Well written but tough to read。 Some parts I had to gloss over because I had heard enough on a specific topic。 Going forward, I won’t read an entire book about Trump’s reign in the White House; it’s just too disturbing。

A difficult book to read。 It's not just the supreme narcissist leading the clown show, but the full supporting cast of toadies, chancers, opportunists and hypocrites who make up a large part of our political leadership is just depressing。 Had it not been for a few brave souls who upheld their oath to defend the constitution, the results could have been unthinkable。 A difficult book to read。 It's not just the supreme narcissist leading the clown show, but the full supporting cast of toadies, chancers, opportunists and hypocrites who make up a large part of our political leadership is just depressing。 Had it not been for a few brave souls who upheld their oath to defend the constitution, the results could have been unthinkable。 。。。more
