1 ⭐️Okay。 I don’t know what the author was thinking when she made the MAIN DILEMMA of this book the fact that Caldris and Estrella could be STEP-SIBLINGS! STEP-SIBLINGS!! Are you serious? STEP-SIBLINGS!! Are you serious? The only reason I even finished this book was because I had to know if the author went through with this weird not related but relatedness。 We also get a awful and confusing ending to match - where one second Estrella wants to die, the next she is aiding Caldris in saving her, then she is angry at Caldris for saving her despite the fact she LITERALLY FOUGHT BACK AND HELPED HIM SAVE HER。 Why did they also not prepare for fighting the mist guard if they knew they were there? Why did no one look to see if there was another way across the veil? Why is everyone in this book so stupid。 I give it one star because the enemy’s to lovers (again) trope was ok at the beginning, but unfortunately half of the sex scenes in this book - the only reason most of us are even reading if I’m going to be completely honest - are ruined by the fact that there is undertones of Estrella being his STEPSISTER。 How am I meant to enjoy them if the question of their relatedness is constantly in the back of my mind when they’re boinking? Despite the conclusion that the stepsiblingness was all a quirky ruse and awfully chosen plot point I will most definitely let my time reading this series end。 Leave it at the first book, IMO, don’t ruin the intrigue of what happens between Estrella and Caldris with whatever the hell happened in this one。 。。。more

From the twist at the end of the first book to the twist at the very end of the book, it kept me guessing all the way to the end。 The only thing I would say I had a hard time with was the constant flip flop of the main character wanting/ not wanting her mate。 It was super constant until she finally decided to choose her own heart and accept that he was always meant to be hers。 I can not wait for the third book to be released!

Once again we are left on a bit of a cliffhanger, not a devastating one, but a cliffhanger none the less。 I had such high expectations for this series and am hoping book three will meet them for me, with the crew finally landing back in Alfheimr and everything going to shit 。。。more

I was so close to choosing not to finish this book。 It was so slow, and every time I picked the book back up, I found I couldn't remember anything that happened previously。 This one just couldn't hold my attention。 I was so close to choosing not to finish this book。 It was so slow, and every time I picked the book back up, I found I couldn't remember anything that happened previously。 This one just couldn't hold my attention。 。。。more

I decided to give the second one in this series a shot, because I had a little higher hopes for this one。 While I did think it was better than the first and there was a little more character and plot developement I was still disappointed。 I do want to give credit that the side characters were more relevant and likable in this second book, which I thought was much needed。 I also think the ending of this one left more opportunity for the third book to be even better, so I am looking forward to see I decided to give the second one in this series a shot, because I had a little higher hopes for this one。 While I did think it was better than the first and there was a little more character and plot developement I was still disappointed。 I do want to give credit that the side characters were more relevant and likable in this second book, which I thought was much needed。 I also think the ending of this one left more opportunity for the third book to be even better, so I am looking forward to seeing how the story will progress。 。。。more

Loved it and can’t wait for the 3rd book! Tons of spice in this one and a great storyline。 Needs some typo work sadly which is why it doesn’t get a 5 from me。 4。75 for story。 5 for spice though。

This book started off so good then halfway through it got pretty bad。

minor spoilers??I definitely did not enjoy this book as much as the first one。 I’m here for the spice but the plot was seriously lacking。 Caelum’s love was amazing but Estrella irritated me for the majority of the book。 She loves him, she hates him, she loves him, she hates him… girl, get over yourself and just be with him。 You think you’re sooo much better than him but you’re just as twisted as he is。 If you want to rip hearts out, just do it and own it。

I liked some parts of the book。 This read was for me fine, a little slow and I didn't love it。。 nor was i hooked on the story thoughout the book。 For me I felt like not much happened。 The sole focus was on Caldris and Estrellas relationship and not so much for an actually plot。 The plot does show up in some parts of the book, and those parts I liked。 As I did like reading about Caldris and Estrellas relationship, it just didn't have to take the hole fokus on the book。 I'm left with a feeling tha I liked some parts of the book。 This read was for me fine, a little slow and I didn't love it。。 nor was i hooked on the story thoughout the book。 For me I felt like not much happened。 The sole focus was on Caldris and Estrellas relationship and not so much for an actually plot。 The plot does show up in some parts of the book, and those parts I liked。 As I did like reading about Caldris and Estrellas relationship, it just didn't have to take the hole fokus on the book。 I'm left with a feeling that I'm curious about the next book, but im not impatient and its not a need to read。 Though, the ending endicate that there will be going more on in the third book 🤞🏼I did like it as much as the first book。 。。。more

First and foremost, I did not like Estrella。 To me, she is petulant, childish, immature, and the constant waffling was ineffective。 I don’t even feel for Caldris as everyone else seems to。 As far as book boyfriends go, there were no stakes, and therefore, I wasn’t invested。 I’m all for a morally gray character, but when a character reminds me of my abuse Whew, I personally did not enjoy this novel。 Please remember that these opinions are my own, and if you enjoyed the novels, I am happy for you! First and foremost, I did not like Estrella。 To me, she is petulant, childish, immature, and the constant waffling was ineffective。 I don’t even feel for Caldris as everyone else seems to。 As far as book boyfriends go, there were no stakes, and therefore, I wasn’t invested。 I’m all for a morally gray character, but when a character reminds me of my abuser, I am out。 The temper tantrums and manipulation, the lack of patience, the entitlement, and so much more, are unattractive at best。 Characters need to have stakes or development, individual and relational, or the story is cheapened。 The sex is also cheapened by not developing your characters at a decent pace。 The pacing in this was too fast and too slow all at once。 Jealousy and possessiveness as main (or sole) conflict is annoying and shallow。 It’s not tied into anything。 The novel was too heavily reliant on the fated mates trope, which isn’t enough to make a good story, and it really muddied the ethical waters。 When you have a novel that’s mostly traveling, all the repetitiveness has a spotlight shone upon it。 People will zone out and no longer care。 Her accepting the bond was also not earned。 It was cheap to just have them look into each other without it being related to the overarching plot。Immediate readiness for sex is not the fated mate move you think it is, especially when there was barely hardship in the current plot in order for them to be together。 I understand why she went that way, but it’s annoying instead of sexy。 She seems like a desperate, simpering young girl。 It gives teenager, while she’s a woman who has lived many lives。 Same goes for her nickname。 When you say it constantly every time he speaks, it’s not special anymore and becomes irritating。 The consent talk is lampshading。 You mention consent to have us see you acknowledging it as an issue, but the lines are extremely blurred in these novels。 If it’s not an enthusiastic yes, it’s not consent。 The O denial to have her finally say “I love you” was wildly manipulative and coercive。 On that topic, I did not find any of the dirty talk to be interesting or titillating。 It was overused, crass, vulgar, and often out of context。 When you randomly sprinkle it into a serious scene, it completely changes the tone and takes your reader out of it, especially when it’s all。 the。 time。 It’s wholly over saturated and does not add to plot or character development in any way, it’s just there to be there。 Dirty talk has its place in stories, and I love it when it’s done right。 I am so, so far from a prude, but it often made me uncomfortable, because it was out of left field and super intense。 It also often just went on for too long。 It was not balanced out by plot or character development。 It felt like the novel was 65% dirty talk for no reason other than to include dirty talk。 I was not invested in the spice, either。 The tension was weak and what angst was there was annoying after a time。 There needs to be balance。 As for character development, I cannot say, as I dnf’d around 70% of the way through。 I wasn’t crazy about the first book, but I was intrigued enough by the potential。 From what I read, I truly didn’t see much。 Nothing felt earned, because the stakes were too low。 Plot and relationship should be interwoven in a way that keeps the reader invested at all times。 Everything felt disjointed to me。 I truly wished to enjoy it, and I know other people will enjoy it, so keep that in mind。 The plot and premise had such potential。 Hopefully it’s fleshed out more in the future novels, but I will not be continuing the series。 。。。more

I surprisingly enjoyed “What hunts inside the shadows” more than what I would have thought。 I wasn’t a fan of the first book, and I only read this one because I wanted to read some new adult fantasy that wasn’t 1000 pages long。 But it hooked me up pretty much from the start。 The plot finally took off and in a good way: it’s not so similar to other books anymore。 Both Estrella and Caelum got on my nerves at times but they were not insufferable。 I also liked some of the side characters (finally so I surprisingly enjoyed “What hunts inside the shadows” more than what I would have thought。 I wasn’t a fan of the first book, and I only read this one because I wanted to read some new adult fantasy that wasn’t 1000 pages long。 But it hooked me up pretty much from the start。 The plot finally took off and in a good way: it’s not so similar to other books anymore。 Both Estrella and Caelum got on my nerves at times but they were not insufferable。 I also liked some of the side characters (finally some that aren’t boring!)。 The ratio plot/smut was also muuuuch better。I’ll read the next book and I truly hope it will be as good as this one or even better。 I changed my mind on these books! 。。。more

I liked this one a lot more than the first。 The first book started slow and seemed predictable, this one had more infighting and twists which were a bit more surprising。 The ending came as no surprise, it's what you do when you write a series。 This one also started to diverge more from the series the first book was often compared to。 However there are still some similarities you just have to ignore。 I will definitely be reading the next one as I think this one redeemed the series。 I liked this one a lot more than the first。 The first book started slow and seemed predictable, this one had more infighting and twists which were a bit more surprising。 The ending came as no surprise, it's what you do when you write a series。 This one also started to diverge more from the series the first book was often compared to。 However there are still some similarities you just have to ignore。 I will definitely be reading the next one as I think this one redeemed the series。 。。。more

Well this become way too similar to from blood and ash but with more whiny main character。 I really hope we will see more character growth as we move ahead in the story。 At some points she was insufferable,Just kept whining and whining about her humanity 🤦‍♀️Caldris was a perfection。 Did not enjoy this book as much as it felt like not much happened for that many pages。 I really wish the story would pick up already
