This deluxe edition of The Godfather includes:
- An iconic new cover

Since its release in 1969, The Godfather has made an indelible mark on American crime fiction。 From the mind of master storyteller Mario Puzo, it traces the Corleone family, whose brilliant and brutal portrayal illuminated the violent and seductive allure of power in American society。 A tale of family and loyalty, law and order, obedience and rebellion, it has stood the test of time as the definitive novel of the Mafia underworld。

Beyond the bestselling novel, Francis Ford Coppola's incomparable film adaptation and Academy Award winner for Best Picture cemented The Godfather's reputation as a triumph in storytelling and a seminal classic for the ages。 With a legacy of blood and honor, it is a cultural touchstone that has resonated for generations, and still mesmerizes readers to this day。

Bafflingly in love with its own mythos and characters - hard to believe the cold opera that is the film adaptation came from something so simultaneously grimy and romanticised。 While its iconic characters and groundbreaking depiction of mafia mechanics cannot be doubted, Puzo is too pedestrian a prose writer - and oddly crude, in the depiction of certain sexual subplots - to make any of it feel remotely human, or largely emotional in its big swings。

Got most of the way through, will definitely come back and finish in the future。 I now have a newfound appreciation for the movie

The novel that twisted my gut。 The masterpiece "Godfather" is timeless。 I love how Michael Corleone gradually turned into the Don。 The novel that twisted my gut。 The masterpiece "Godfather" is timeless。 I love how Michael Corleone gradually turned into the Don。 。。。more

This book got me back into reading。 I’m a big fan of the mafia and other gangster films。 The movie follows the book very closely。 Vito Corleone is by far the best godfather and mafia leader ever in my opinion。 His style is unlike any other。 So many good quotes and scenes from this book。 Will always be a classic

Having been a big fan of the Godfather film trilogy (the first two parts anyway), I just had to read this。 My only regret is that I watched the films first。 Puzo's acclaimed Mafia epic is not celebrated without good reason。 The snapshot he gives us into the inner-workings of the Cosa Nostra are easily the best parts, and poses the question: how on Earth can a world of brutality and sin be so sophisticated?Despite clocking in at around 450 pages, there really isn't a single sentence that seems us Having been a big fan of the Godfather film trilogy (the first two parts anyway), I just had to read this。 My only regret is that I watched the films first。 Puzo's acclaimed Mafia epic is not celebrated without good reason。 The snapshot he gives us into the inner-workings of the Cosa Nostra are easily the best parts, and poses the question: how on Earth can a world of brutality and sin be so sophisticated?Despite clocking in at around 450 pages, there really isn't a single sentence that seems useless or out of place。 Every word and phrase throughout the book deserves to be there; whether it's Michael's 'wintry cold hatred' or the lemon-scented fields of Sicily。 Every syllable is used either to draw us further into this fascinating world or to give us a better understanding of Puzo's wonderfully complex and vibrant characters。 。。。more

This was a very fun read! It was hard to put down because somebody was always gettin’ whacked。 This is an interesting situation where I think MAYBE the movie was higher quality than the book (?)。 But still an action packed book full of strategy and tradition。 I really enjoyed it! (Except for one really gross section which I very much disliked and I won’t spoil, (you can be upset on your own terms)。

WOW, very interesting book。 There was a lot of back story on Johnny Fontane and a couple of other ancillary characters that weren't in the movie, but the book does help "fill in the gaps" that can't fit into the movie。 The book is easy to read and has interesting characters。 Ironically, when reading about Johnny Fontane, I pictured Frank Sinatra, but the rest of the cast, I pictured the actors in the movie。 WOW, very interesting book。 There was a lot of back story on Johnny Fontane and a couple of other ancillary characters that weren't in the movie, but the book does help "fill in the gaps" that can't fit into the movie。 The book is easy to read and has interesting characters。 Ironically, when reading about Johnny Fontane, I pictured Frank Sinatra, but the rest of the cast, I pictured the actors in the movie。 。。。more

A real pageturner - absolutely brilliant storytelling。 I will definitely get my hands on some of Puzo’s other works。 The story is of course already very famous - it is after all memorialized as one of the greatest movies ever filmed。 But what I found interesting and illuminating was Puzo’s underlying narrative on the nature of power, albeit in the self-contained world of the Costa Nostra。

Một tuyệt tác của Mario Puzo。 Giọng văn và cốt truyện vô cùng lôi cuốn, hấp dẫn

A masterclass in storytelling! Puzo is able to weave a story of family and power, all set in a crime-ridden 1930's New York。 Could not put it down and loved every second of it。 A masterclass in storytelling! Still good read after all these years It took a while to finish, but I enjoyed every minute。 I watched the movie several times while reading only to get a visual of how things appeared to have happened。

I came to this book through the miniseries "The Offer" which was a really fun look into the making of the movie but obviously involves a lot of Puzo and the hype of the book and the screenwriting of the film。 Not required for the book to be awesome, but good tip and it's worth a watch。Now what I love most about this book is everything that is NOT in the movie。 As is usually the case a book allows side characters to have side adventures and even tie back into the main plot in beautiful and breath I came to this book through the miniseries "The Offer" which was a really fun look into the making of the movie but obviously involves a lot of Puzo and the hype of the book and the screenwriting of the film。 Not required for the book to be awesome, but good tip and it's worth a watch。Now what I love most about this book is everything that is NOT in the movie。 As is usually the case a book allows side characters to have side adventures and even tie back into the main plot in beautiful and breathtaking ways。 I guess the other thing I really loved is a line that you will never see in the movie because it literally goes against the mantra, but it sums up the main theme of family in a self-referential way that only The Godfather can:"Tom, don't let anybody kid you。 It's all personal, every bit of business。 Every piece of shit every man has to eat every day of his life is personal。 They call it business。 OK。 But it's personal as hell。 You know where I learned that from? The Don。 My old man。 The Godfather。" 。。。more

It's pretty much exactly what I expected, and I was excited to get back to it every time。 It's really excellent, I might have given it a coveted 5 stars based solely on enjoyment but the rampant misogyny (however apt for the story) will not allow it。 It's pretty much exactly what I expected, and I was excited to get back to it every time。 It's really excellent, I might have given it a coveted 5 stars based solely on enjoyment but the rampant misogyny (however apt for the story) will not allow it。 。。。more

4。5?this was a very good book…but what’s holding me back is some of it seemed pretty unrealistic。 i just find it hard to believe that so many people had unwavering loyalty to vito and then michael; in my view what they said didn’t rly command that much respect。 also not to be a liberal snowflake but the amount of racism, homophobia, and misogyny was a little distracting…especially the misogyny。 i don’t like how even the strongest female characters ended up bending to the will of the men。 but! i 4。5?this was a very good book…but what’s holding me back is some of it seemed pretty unrealistic。 i just find it hard to believe that so many people had unwavering loyalty to vito and then michael; in my view what they said didn’t rly command that much respect。 also not to be a liberal snowflake but the amount of racism, homophobia, and misogyny was a little distracting…especially the misogyny。 i don’t like how even the strongest female characters ended up bending to the will of the men。 but! i get it。 different times whatever。 time to finally watch the movie! 。。。more

Probably considered a classic already, this story of the American mafia underworld in the 40s, didn’t quite catch me the way the movie did。Mario Puzo‘s repetitive writing pattern and prose made me doubt myself as if I was re reading any given chapter, also the fact that he keeps bringing back scenes in the book, as if the reader wasn’t able to remember them, kind of threw me off。To my eye, Johnny Fontane and Lucy Mancini were propper fill in characters that weren’t needed at all。To wrap it all u Probably considered a classic already, this story of the American mafia underworld in the 40s, didn’t quite catch me the way the movie did。Mario Puzo‘s repetitive writing pattern and prose made me doubt myself as if I was re reading any given chapter, also the fact that he keeps bringing back scenes in the book, as if the reader wasn’t able to remember them, kind of threw me off。To my eye, Johnny Fontane and Lucy Mancini were propper fill in characters that weren’t needed at all。To wrap it all up, fell the story was told in a very cold, impersonal way。 You just can’t bond with the characters or care for them either。Not what I expected。 。。。more

While there were obviously parts of this novel that were very intense and gory, it overall pleasantly surprised me。 Part of me wants to watch the movie but part of me knows that these kind of violences are typically such more palatable on paper than on screen, so we will see

Wanted to read this book and watch all versions of the movie because I wanted to know why men loved this movie and why so many quotes came from this book, it’s because of the power, greed and revenge for the justice that society didn’t afford the Italian immigrants。 Now I understand, now I get it not to say I approve of the casual violence but I get why men in this story want to have a dignified living where they are perceived untouchable。
