Summary

I started reading this book en route to our honeymoon。 I’d pick it up on planes, car rides, & trains。 When I fell asleep on a train ride through Italy, my husband picked up the book out of boredom & began from the beginning。 He has hooked (as was I)。 I let him catch up to me within one train ride。 We arrived at our destination and I immediately downloaded a second copy of the book on my iPad。 We spent the evening on a rooftop bar, sipping cocktails, and reading chapter-by-chapter together; stopp I started reading this book en route to our honeymoon。 I’d pick it up on planes, car rides, & trains。 When I fell asleep on a train ride through Italy, my husband picked up the book out of boredom & began from the beginning。 He has hooked (as was I)。 I let him catch up to me within one train ride。 We arrived at our destination and I immediately downloaded a second copy of the book on my iPad。 We spent the evening on a rooftop bar, sipping cocktails, and reading chapter-by-chapter together; stopping to discuss what happened and what we thought was coming next。 We devoured the book in two evenings。 It was magical and soon something I will not forget。 Read this, it’s worth it。 。。。more

I didn’t really like this book at all。 2。5 stars rounded down。 I felt like there was 0 plot/substance, just words, until the very end。 Characters didn’t have much depth, aside from Jane , but even then she wasn’t very deep

I really enjoyed this read。 I thought I had an idea of where the book was going to end up but the last few chapters had me guessing! Very good build up and great ending!

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 -- “Stick with the nice boys, Chloe!” said Madeline after a moment。 “Like Daddy。 Bad boys don’t bring you coffee in bed, I’ll tell you that for free。”“What are you babbling on about, woman?” sighed Chloe。 She’d picked this phrase up from her father and imitated his weary tone perfectly。

4🌟I was really looking forward to reading this book, I watched the show and loved it。 The first three quarters of the book were pretty good but once it got to the week prior to trivia night it really picked up。 I couldn’t put the book down for the last 200 pages。 This book does a really good job of talking about serious issues and somehow still manages to be funny。 Would definitely recommend。

Such a great book。 Moriarty really has a way with words。 This book is gripping, easy to read with bite-sized chapters, and so compelling。 Lots of tough topics。 Very entertaining and had such a humor to it。 Easily better than the show。 I really enjoyed the chapters from Celeste’s point of view—she really captured the mindset of an abuse survivor。 The little side dramas—Madeline hitting Renata’s car, issues with her daughter, Jane’s mother and her nitpicking attempts to help, I could go on and on— Such a great book。 Moriarty really has a way with words。 This book is gripping, easy to read with bite-sized chapters, and so compelling。 Lots of tough topics。 Very entertaining and had such a humor to it。 Easily better than the show。 I really enjoyed the chapters from Celeste’s point of view—she really captured the mindset of an abuse survivor。 The little side dramas—Madeline hitting Renata’s car, issues with her daughter, Jane’s mother and her nitpicking attempts to help, I could go on and on—all so relatable。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book! I would have definitely given it five stars, but the use of the f*** word was a little too much for me。It was a book I didn't want to put down。 The first chapter was a little confusing and didn't grab me instantly, but part way through the second。。。I hooked and just wanted to keep reading。 I absolutely loved this book! I loved this book, and enjoyed reading all of the women stories and how they came together。

For starters let us say I HATE people who spoiled the book in the frequently asked questions about this book that I happened to read and spoiled the book for myself。 I tried soooo hard to forget the names and managed to forget one but not the other 。 So before we begin go read the book and dont google it like I did! Keeping that aside I REALLY loved this book! Even though I was partially spoiled(thanks to my forgetful ass)。 I loved the female friendships and solidarity in this book and felt it For starters let us say I HATE people who spoiled the book in the frequently asked questions about this book that I happened to read and spoiled the book for myself。 I tried soooo hard to forget the names and managed to forget one but not the other 。 So before we begin go read the book and dont google it like I did! Keeping that aside I REALLY loved this book! Even though I was partially spoiled(thanks to my forgetful ass)。 I loved the female friendships and solidarity in this book and felt it like no other 。 The three main characters Madeline, Celeste and Jane were so beautifully written and I loved their stories and how they bond so well with eachother。 I loved Madeline's character so much, how she fights for her friends and their problems are her own and she is the reason the three women gor together。 I love her and Ed's characters and how they found eachother。 It was really sad and hard for her to bring Abigail all on her own and I was really happy it all feel into place (view spoiler)[Abigail is her little secret and how she has opened a website to sell her virginity and I really love the way Madeline thinks about it as howsensitive and sad Abigail was for them and it was one of the most touching things for me! Her being there for Jane and Ziggy and helping them out and realising Celeste was being abused just show how good a friend she was to the lot ! (hide spoiler)]Celeste was also ofc my favourite!I loved how strong she was and (view spoiler)[ I really understood how an abuse victim actually takes a really long time to leave the abusive relationship even though it's hurting them and it is not out and out evil and such but very very complicated as perry was an amazing father to the twins and really good to her until he was not 。 It shows no matter how powerful, independent, clever and educated a woman is she still is a victim to abuse and violence。 I really understood how Max and Josh were also very badly affected what it can do to those young minds (hide spoiler)] (view spoiler)[。。。 (hide spoiler)]Jane on the other hand was soo vulnerable and scared mom and was doing all that is in her power to raise Ziggy and keep him happy。(view spoiler)[It was pretty scary when Ziggy was pointed out by Amabella and really creeped me out and as the story went on I realised the opposite! I was so sad for Jane and her being so young and vulnerable coming to this foreign town all alone it was very brave of her! And the best actually happens to her at the end with Tom who I was crazy for when I found out he was not gay! Sooo soo happy I was for Jane she really got where she wanted and deserved! And I feel so sad for Ziggy for being wrongfully blamed but he was a really brav kid and I adored him! (hide spoiler)](view spoiler)[I LOVED the ending so much 。 I read someone is killed by Bonnie but I am so glad I forgot Perry! I love the solidarity between all these women who were jealous, pulling eachouthers hair and fighing allll the time and hen needed to defend Celest from Penny they all come together and it gave me goosebumps 。 I hated perry so much and to find he was Saxon Banks was the most shocking thing ever! (hide spoiler)] All in all loved it so much it is the perfect combination of thriller-comedy-friendship-feminist Book ever!Coming to the TV show there are things that I absolutely loved and somethings I would have preferred otherwise (view spoiler)[Celeste and Jane's stories were absolutely perfect in execution and I loved them so much! Madeline's story however really confused me because the book shows a reallly nice realationship between Ed and her but here when she cheats on him it confused me alot and I did not know what to do about it! But in the end it all was fine and I was not mad about it ! ANd I love Nicole kidman and Reese witherspoon now because I already loved shaileen woodley! It won all those awars and wow it was crazy and I am definitely watching season two (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

When my dentist recommended this book, I had some serious doubts。 I almost dismissed it as just another bit of mindless chic lit that seems so prevalent these days。 Thank goodness I decided to read it despite my misgivings! This book is full of realistically complex characters that continue to reveal more of their truths right up until the end the book。 I loved the twists and turns and revelations, the surprising depth to the characters and the storyline! I definitely recommend this book!

This book is truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever read in my life(other than silent patient) and this is not an exaggeration。 Every single character was so well written and every single detail that I first thought was irrelevant came back later on。 There was not a page that I thought was boring and I just absolutely love it so so much。 There is so much drama in this book。 With Madeline’s ex husband and his new wife, Jane’s husband Perry and Ziggy’s father and even things happening with This book is truly one of the most amazing things I’ve ever read in my life(other than silent patient) and this is not an exaggeration。 Every single character was so well written and every single detail that I first thought was irrelevant came back later on。 There was not a page that I thought was boring and I just absolutely love it so so much。 There is so much drama in this book。 With Madeline’s ex husband and his new wife, Jane’s husband Perry and Ziggy’s father and even things happening with the kids。 One of the things I hated about the last book that I read was that there were too much happening at the same time to the point where it was overwhelming but this wasn’t。 It had a perfect balance between everything that was happening which made it easy to read and understand。 For Madeline’s chapters, I really loved the seeing the difference between when she’s with her husband, her ex husband and his wife, with Celeste and Jane, and with her daughters。 When she is with Nathan and Bonnie, you can feel the tension between them and you can tell she just wants to kill them and it is said repeatedly in the book that her and Ed wants to kill them but that’s irrelevant。 But when Madeline is with her friends, you can sort of see her soften and become more empathetic towards them like when Jane needed help although it was late she still went and when she saw what was happening with Celeste sort of unravel she didn’t hesitate to go and help her and I really liked that。 When reading Jane’s chapters, throughout the whole thing I just really felt bad for her because well first she’s a single mom moving to a completely new city and her son is accused of hurting a child and she was assaulted by the father of her son which is I think too much for anyone to handle。 One thing I absolutely loved about Jane was how much she trusted Ziggy when he said he didn’t hurt that girl。 I loved that when he told him that she did not hesitate for a second to trust him because that was the right thing to do。 Towards the end when we were finding out who really hurt Amabella I thought that Jane was being kind of annoying but I still really loved her “redemption” when she actually came face to face with Perry and how Celeste realized what was happening and how they sort of together confronted Perry。 Overall out of the three main characters, I think that my favorite is Celeste。 Although she had less chapters than the others her story is truly amazing as it is something many women have to deal with and although I can’t speak for them I know how hard it is to actually admit to yourself that this was happening。 One thing that was similar between Jane and Celeste were that they both just weren’t ready。 They weren’t ready to admit to themselves that what they had gone through were abuse and it was really sad to see。 But later on it was amazing to see how were slowly working through it and how different their approaches were。 Something that I loved about this book was how different it was。 In a typical book/movie/show I would read or watch is that there are going to be like three people who become best friends and then suddenly some random person or secret comes in and drives them apart but that never happened。 Throughout the whole book Madeline, Celeste and Jane were always there for each other and that was great。 Something I thought that was kind of funny was the end where they just all pretended like they didn’t see anything and just went on with their lives like nothing had just happened but it was fun to see how everyone even the antagonist just went along with them and everybody mutually agreed that nothing had happened and everything was fine。 Okay I’m gonna go watch the show now 。。。more

Wow! This was my first audiobook。 I started commuting for work and decided I needed something like an audiobook to listen to for the long drives。 I loved this so much。 I love the characters, the development in Jane in particular。 There was so much mystery, so much build up, and a great ending- not entirely satisfying, but I'll take it! Would definitely reccommend。 I haven't seen the tv show yet but I'm a little wary of an american adaptation of an australian story。 Wow! I watched the tv series before reading this, which was probably a mistake。 I absolutely loved the show。 I could not get over how good the story was。 Now that I finally got around reading the book, I'm surprised to say I liked the show so much better, which usually never happens。 Obviously I still love the book because the story itself is sososo good。 It's so real and the DRAMA! Definitely interested in reading more books from this author now。 I watched the tv series before reading this, which was probably a mistake。 I absolutely loved the show。 I could not get over how good the story was。 Now that I finally got around reading the book, I'm surprised to say I liked the show so much better, which usually never happens。 Obviously I still love the book because the story itself is sososo good。 It's so real and the DRAMA! Great story but definitely very dark and thought provoking。 Not for the faint of heart。

This story is so complex and twisty。 I did guess the ‘twist’ but it didn’t make it any less of a reveal。The book had such a strong set of characters with real raw struggles。 A have strong admiration for Celeste, Jane and Bonnie。 A very powerful story with an unlikely ‘happy’ ending。

Taylor Clarke

Amazing。 Quite different from the direction of the show。 Engaging and compelling, does not get lost in the drama in a way that would be soapy。 So many relatable and captivating storylines。 Have reread more than once。

Helen Mackay

Great read with an unexpected twist at the end。

Jackie Pierce

A fun, laughter out loud book about the kinde-moms in an Australia town。 I loved the characters and their stories。 I also enjoyed the writing style with starting at the chaotic scene of a school event then flashing back to events leading up to the shocking plot twist。

Aylya

Just excellent from the beginning to the end! Thoroughly enjoyed it 😄
