It's only been three months since the last Madoka Magica manga (say that three times fast!) received an English translation, so one might reasonably ask what Magia Record: Another Story brings to the table。 As the title suggests, this is a spinoff of a spinoff, namely the manga adaptation of the Magia Record mobile game (let's ignore the terrible anime version)。 Here Mami Tomoe, senpai of the Holy Quintet, becomes alarmed at the lack of Witches in Mitakihara and stumbles onto Kamihama City, meet It's only been three months since the last Madoka Magica manga (say that three times fast!) received an English translation, so one might reasonably ask what Magia Record: Another Story brings to the table。 As the title suggests, this is a spinoff of a spinoff, namely the manga adaptation of the Magia Record mobile game (let's ignore the terrible anime version)。 Here Mami Tomoe, senpai of the Holy Quintet, becomes alarmed at the lack of Witches in Mitakihara and stumbles onto Kamihama City, meeting Iroha and friends and discovering the Wings of the Magius's less-than-altruistic plot to free Magical Girls from their curses。 This one's pretty slight: Mami dominates the story, with cameos by Madoka, Kyoko, Kyubey and a few MagiReco girls。 It's enjoyable to watch our favorite blonde Puella Magi play detective as she investigates the Mystery of the Missing Witches, putting her experience to clever use, then interacts with some MagiRecos who are mostly charmed (who wouldn't be?) by Mami's skill and grace。 If you're a convinced Madoka fan, as I am, that along with U35's pleasant visual style is probably enough to justify the hour or two you'll spend reading this volume。 Just don't expect any character development or fresh world-building, let alone surprises。 。。。more
