Summary

Discover the spellbinding magic of In the Hall of The Mountain King in this musical retelling of Peer Gynt—push the button on each beautiful scene to hear the vivid sound of an orchestra playing from Grieg’s score。

This tale of a boy’s adventure through the valleys and mountains of the Norwegian countryside begins at a wedding feast far, far away。 Peer Gynt is bored and he’s longing for adventure。 After sneaking off from the party, he finds himself at a peaceful lake where he meets some dairy people。 When he lies about his escapades riding reindeer through the sky, they dare him to go to the lair of the Mountain King, the king of the trolls。

The king’s halls are dark and spooky, and it isn’t long before Peer is captured。 How will he escape? And will he learn the importance of humility and the value of friends?

As you and your little one journey through the magical scenes, you will press the buttons to hear 10 excerpts from the score。 Readers should press firmly on the pages to activate the sounds, encouraging interactive learning and introducing children to this beautiful piece of music

At the back of the book, find a short biography of the composer, Edvard Grieg, with details about his composition of Peer Gynt。 Next to this, you can replay the musical excerpts and, for each of them, read a discussion of the instruments, rhythms, and musical techniques that make them so powerful。 A glossary defines musical terms。

The Story Orchestra series brings classical music to life for children through gorgeously illustrated retellings of classic ballet, opera, and program music stories paired with 10-second sound clips of orchestras playing from their musical scores。

Also available from the Story Orchestra seriesThe Magic Flute, I Can Play (vol 1), Carnival of the Animals, The Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, and Four Seasons in One Day

This picture book is part of a series that introduces children to classical music and stories associated with it。 This volume adapts the story of Peer Gynt for young children, and the interactive element of the music recordings will make this appeal to a broad audience。 On each page, readers press the music note image to activate the recording in the back of the book。 The book has nice sound quality and plays an approximately ten-second clip of music for each page。I read this book twice back-to- This picture book is part of a series that introduces children to classical music and stories associated with it。 This volume adapts the story of Peer Gynt for young children, and the interactive element of the music recordings will make this appeal to a broad audience。 On each page, readers press the music note image to activate the recording in the back of the book。 The book has nice sound quality and plays an approximately ten-second clip of music for each page。I read this book twice back-to-back。 The first time, I just read it as a story。 The second time, I added the musical element, and it greatly enriched the experience。 It inspired me to listen to more of the music, and I would recommend this to families regardless what existing exposure they have to classical music。Because I'm barely familiar with the source material this story is based on, I don't know how well the book adapts its short section of the original material, but it will appeal to kids who like fairy tales and fables。 Highly sensitive children may be frightened of the scary goblins and the dramatic music near the climax of the tale, but this passes quickly and most readers will be fine with it。At the end, there is a note with additional information about the music and the composer。 I appreciate how this book combines education and entertainment, and even though I had expected the music recordings to be glitchy, they worked very well。 The pages need to be flat so that they line up with the right spot in the back of the book, but you don't have to press extremely hard。 The book comes with its first battery, and there are instructions on the back for replacing the battery in the future。I received a free copy of this book from the publisher through Amazon Vine in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

Adapted from part of the play Peer Gynt。 Boastful young Peer Gynt goes into a cave of trolls and runs back out again。 Because it's just a short part of a larger story, this story is too straightforward for me。 But this introduces kids to snippets of the songs Morning Mood and In The Hall Of The Mountain King, which have graced many a Bugs Bunny cartoon and car commercial。 Adapted from part of the play Peer Gynt。 Boastful young Peer Gynt goes into a cave of trolls and runs back out again。 Because it's just a short part of a larger story, this story is too straightforward for me。 But this introduces kids to snippets of the songs Morning Mood and In The Hall Of The Mountain King, which have graced many a Bugs Bunny cartoon and car commercial。 。。。more

We are big fans of the entire Story Orchestra series and this is another fantastic addition。 I love the idea of meshing story and song in an imaginative way for children。 These stories are so fun and the interactive element where children push a button to play a piece of music from the featured composer is just wonderful。 The story provides just the right amount of interest and depth that can appeal to a wide age range of children。 The illustrations are dreamy and playful with full pages of deta We are big fans of the entire Story Orchestra series and this is another fantastic addition。 I love the idea of meshing story and song in an imaginative way for children。 These stories are so fun and the interactive element where children push a button to play a piece of music from the featured composer is just wonderful。 The story provides just the right amount of interest and depth that can appeal to a wide age range of children。 The illustrations are dreamy and playful with full pages of detail and depth。 Lots to love and I appreciate so much that this story can be revisited again and again。***Note: I was given a review copy of this book via Quarto Kids。 Opinions are my own。 。。。more
