Summary

A group of Inquisition agents pursue the deadly elven warrior Fenris in this new chapter from the world of BioWare's dark fantasy RPG!

From the video game developer of genre-defining roleplaying games such as Baldur's GateStar Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect comes a canonical continuation of stories begun in the multiple game of the year award-winning Dragon Age: Inquisition

The power of the substance known as red lyrium is as dark as it is devastating, and a mysterious weapon containing a frightening amount of it is about to fall into the wrong hands。 Enter knight Ser Aaron Hawthorne, elven thief Vaea, the magekillers Tessa Forsythia and Marius, and fledgling con artist Calix Pryde--a motley team of Inquisition agents whose task it is to recover the lyrium artifact before it's too late。 In order to do so, fellow agent Varric Tethras directs them to recruit one more to their party, a former associate from Kirkwall--Fenris。 However, as the team quickly discovers, this legendary fighter has an agenda of his own, and convincing him to join their cause will be no small feat。

I'm not ashamed to say I read this because Fenris is on the cover。 The positives is that Fenris is in character and his new haircut is cute。 Also, they gave him the forehead dots that weren't in the game but in the concept art that I am quite partial to。That ends my positives。 I would probably have been less confused if I read the other comics before this (but they didn't revolve around a character I cared about so。。。)。 But reading from this point was quite confusing。 Too many characters were in I'm not ashamed to say I read this because Fenris is on the cover。 The positives is that Fenris is in character and his new haircut is cute。 Also, they gave him the forehead dots that weren't in the game but in the concept art that I am quite partial to。That ends my positives。 I would probably have been less confused if I read the other comics before this (but they didn't revolve around a character I cared about so。。。)。 But reading from this point was quite confusing。 Too many characters were introduced too quickly。 I still don't know anyone's name (except the one character who was in the video games)。 Also, there were way too many flashbacks and time jumps。 It was difficult keeping all the timeline straight。 Also, the art had a habit of being inconsistent。 The art isn't bad, but facial proportions kept changing。 Not even altering over the length of the comic but from frame to frame, which is jarring。Overall, mediocre。 But I'm happy to have a pretty picture of Fenris on my bookshelf。 。。。more

A mysterious person who has been freeing slaves throughout the land joins our group。Our group, by the way, is the group we have assembled from past volumes of the Dragon Age books。 This detail isn't really touched on or addressed in anyway。 I think a big part of the problem with this book is that it assumes you recall who every person in the group is from previous volumes。 Where a quick summary or cast page would be tremendously helpful, the book foregoes that for a more "jump into the middle of A mysterious person who has been freeing slaves throughout the land joins our group。Our group, by the way, is the group we have assembled from past volumes of the Dragon Age books。 This detail isn't really touched on or addressed in anyway。 I think a big part of the problem with this book is that it assumes you recall who every person in the group is from previous volumes。 Where a quick summary or cast page would be tremendously helpful, the book foregoes that for a more "jump into the middle of the story" type feel。 Unfortunately it comes off as a point of confusion and even someone who has read the previous volumes (like me) struggles to remember who is who and what they did in the past。 The story is very straightforward and kind of。。。 sparse。 It has to do with the Blue Wraith, the person who has been freeing slaves, and how he joins the group。 One of the members' dad gets kidnapped, so they go to find him。。。。and realize there may be more than one villain in this story。 That's pretty much it。 I really was enjoying the Dragon age books in the early volumes。 They seemed well thought out and they took their time to tell a story。 Recent volumes however seem to rush the plot in order to fit it into 3 issues, and I think for a world as robust as the one of Dragon Age, you need a foundation to build off of。 Hopefully the next volume takes it's time a bit more。 。。。more

A comic series based on my favorite video game series sounds like a slam dunk, but this story was too hard to follow with random time jumps and ultimately pretty boring。 Disappointing。

(3,8 of 5, points down for increasing shortness)Well, with this story I felt that the author started to "losing his breath" here。 I see the tendency to create some company of heroes, but the increasing level of "main characters", storylines and decreasing number of pages is a recipe to failure。 It's not complete failure here, but I feel the good qualities are rather diminished here。 One more deterioration of my reader's experience: the end。 Previous stories had a satisfying end, this feels like (3,8 of 5, points down for increasing shortness)Well, with this story I felt that the author started to "losing his breath" here。 I see the tendency to create some company of heroes, but the increasing level of "main characters", storylines and decreasing number of pages is a recipe to failure。 It's not complete failure here, but I feel the good qualities are rather diminished here。 One more deterioration of my reader's experience: the end。 Previous stories had a satisfying end, this feels like closing a storyline but hanging in the middle of a bigger one。Yeah, I quite enjoyed the reading, but I'm bummed out how it deteriorated in expected ways。 。。。more

Im glad u have this for the pretty cover but when it comes to the actual contents of this I was left feeling more than a little disappointed。Fenris is pretty much one of my all time favorite characters and there was pretty much nothing of his actual personality or development that shone through。 Him being bitter and hating the other when they split up for safety at the end of the game ? Like where in the f did that come from? Also the coffin method or whatever the hell special warriors mentioned Im glad u have this for the pretty cover but when it comes to the actual contents of this I was left feeling more than a little disappointed。Fenris is pretty much one of my all time favorite characters and there was pretty much nothing of his actual personality or development that shone through。 Him being bitter and hating the other when they split up for safety at the end of the game ? Like where in the f did that come from? Also the coffin method or whatever the hell special warriors mentioned in this make no sense。 But making fenria having come from this artifact directly contradicts what he said in game。 Which to what I remeber he said the lyrim was either carved or burned into his flesh。 Not that he was stuffed into a random macguffin coffin。 Like so much of that amd then him saying he was sure it was broken makes utterly no sense considering how much time he spent still as a slave to dangerous after that。 Like。。。。。。 he didnt repair it in all that time? I think the main thing now that I've read slme more of the dragon age comics is that they severely suffer from being so short。 There's absolutely no time to explore or go into anything and comic wise as a story they're incredibly weak as a result。 I'm not a huge fan of the art style but at least it's not the worst I've seen but that rralky isn't saying much considering all the artists they have at their disposal。 So many adult charcters end up looking extreme childish and it a bit jarring。 Also using the quanari as a plot device again with utterly no explanation where it doesn't make sense for them to be going after this artifact?? It just strikes me as lazy writing but again I think the main issue is how short these comics are in the first place。 In summary this is worth getting as a fenris fan but only for the cover。 Don't expect a great stpry explaining what he's been doing or even for tge good parts of his character to appear。 。。。more

Alright, Blue Wraith was definitely my favourite of this comic run! And the highest rated from me; at 4 stars。 Finished it in only two sittings rather than several haha。 I'm going to cover it much like I have the preceding comics, and comparing them in places。1。 The ArtNot much to say here that hasn't already been said in my past reviews; HOWEVER, the art had improved so much since Deception?? Overall nicer linework and less weird over-blended colouring。 There were multiple panels that I actually spent more time looking at because they were just pretty and nicely composed。 2。 Pacing and General PlotThe plot was the most interesting so far, as it felt like we were given information that had much more bearing on the information we had already been given in the games。 The pacing was nice, and I actually wanted to read more instead of getting it over with to move on to the next one。 Some of the time jumps felt a little bit weird, but they were easier to keep up with and less clumsy than some of the time jumps in the past comics。 3。 CharactersOverall I was pretty happy with the characters we were meant to care about。 Would have been nice to learn more about Shirallas。。。? His motives were unclear and I can't really figure them out - though maybe we aren't meant to understand him yet haha。 The designs looked a little nicer overall。 I didn't expect for Francesca Invidus to grow on me like she did, but I really love her and her dynamic with Vaea。 Seeing the interactions with all the characters we've grown to know over the past few comics was really nice, as was seeing Fenris again and seeing how much he's developed。 And, okay, I'll admit Calix annoyed me slightly less :)I really hope some, if not all, of these characters appear in DA4, perhaps even as companions! 。。。more

Was just okay。 Nothing special。 The story and characters just felt bland and boring。 The beginning started off a little interesting but it went downhill from there。 Probably wouldn't read this story again。 I also really didn't like the way they updated Fenris' look。 Was just okay。 Nothing special。 The story and characters just felt bland and boring。 The beginning started off a little interesting but it went downhill from there。 Probably wouldn't read this story again。 I also really didn't like the way they updated Fenris' look。 。。。more

I love Fenris so very much, so this was just awesome to read。 Adored the artwork, too, though of course would have liked more time to get to know the characters before the end of this volume。

I had high hopes and high expectations because I absolutely love Fenris。 But this was definitely a letdown, unfortunately。 I wish the story had really been about Fenris, not Francesca。 He's the title character, after all。 But instead he's a flat, one-dimensional version of the character from Dragon Age II。 And the art was。。。less than awesome。 Overall, I was just pretty disappointed with Blue Wraith。 I had high hopes and high expectations because I absolutely love Fenris。 But this was definitely a letdown, unfortunately。 I wish the story had really been about Fenris, not Francesca。 He's the title character, after all。 But instead he's a flat, one-dimensional version of the character from Dragon Age II。 And the art was。。。less than awesome。 Overall, I was just pretty disappointed with Blue Wraith。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 To be completely honest, I'm very disappointed a comic about Fenris barely had any of him in it- especially considering how much of a fan favorite he is。 His character did not feel like him whatsoever, the depiction of the Qunari was disappointing but also not surprising (I'm not sure why most DA comic artists essentially always depict them as unredeemable monsters every single time), and the new characters introduced felt like a lazy rehash of many DA characters already found in the universe。 I To be completely honest, I'm very disappointed a comic about Fenris barely had any of him in it- especially considering how much of a fan favorite he is。 His character did not feel like him whatsoever, the depiction of the Qunari was disappointing but also not surprising (I'm not sure why most DA comic artists essentially always depict them as unredeemable monsters every single time), and the new characters introduced felt like a lazy rehash of many DA characters already found in the universe。 I felt no interest or connection to anyone but the dog, and maybe the older male character in the party。 Though I don't remember anyone's names even though I read this only two weeks ago。This could've been a good read if the story and direction was different。 It really felt like Fenris was a side character in this; unimportant and forgettable, and only happened to be there despite this comic supposedly being about him。 。。。more

I was really excited for this comic at first and though I believe it didn't live up to the hype, I don't necessarily believe its as bad as some people say, I'll admit it was hardly the most exciting dragon age comic。 I liked the stuff that was added to the lore in the comic like how we discover Fenris got his marks but aside from that nothing much happened honestly。 Again I don't think it's a bad comic but it's too okayish when it comes to mostly everything apart from the lore。 I was really excited for this comic at first and though I believe it didn't live up to the hype, I don't necessarily believe its as bad as some people say, I'll admit it was hardly the most exciting dragon age comic。 I liked the stuff that was added to the lore in the comic like how we discover Fenris got his marks but aside from that nothing much happened honestly。 Again I don't think it's a bad comic but it's too okayish when it comes to mostly everything apart from the lore。 。。。more

This book was disappointing for a number of reasons。 The two perspective characters, the mage and the elf girl with the really stupid looking Mabari that looks more like a Corgi than anything actually in the Dragon Age games, are both obnoxious for opposite reasons。 Not to mention flat and boring。 The art is not even that good, a big problem for a graphic novel if you ALSO have terrible dialogue and the story is boring。 The only reason I gave it more than one star is because you could technicall This book was disappointing for a number of reasons。 The two perspective characters, the mage and the elf girl with the really stupid looking Mabari that looks more like a Corgi than anything actually in the Dragon Age games, are both obnoxious for opposite reasons。 Not to mention flat and boring。 The art is not even that good, a big problem for a graphic novel if you ALSO have terrible dialogue and the story is boring。 The only reason I gave it more than one star is because you could technically follow what I guess they're calling a 'plot' in this thing。 Oh and Fenris's new hair cut looks really stupid。 1/10 would not recommend。 A little disappointed I decided to spring for the hardcover after actually reading it。 。。。more

Absolutely love me some Fenris, always, and it was a fun read for sure。 It did feel kind of rushed though, and of course part of me is going to forever wish the Fenris romance was part of DA official canon (in my head and heart Fenris will be returning to Hawke once hes done)

Wow, this - wasn't great。 I love the Sechin Teng artwork, but was really let down by the rest of it。 Probably the weakest in the DA graphic novels thus far。 Wow, this - wasn't great。 I love the Sechin Teng artwork, but was really let down by the rest of it。 Probably the weakest in the DA graphic novels thus far。 。。。more

I got to see my boy Fenris smile because he liked the dog better than the people。 Good stuff right there。Even though I’ve played the games, I wish there was a bit more explanation as to where in the timeline this takes place in relation to DA: Inquisition。 Maybe this will make more sense once I’ve played the Trespasser DLC。 Either way, I’m happy to see my favorite companion from DA2 show up again。

I've learned to not get my hopes up when dark horse releases Dragon Age books with stunning covers。 Good thing too, because with mediocre expectations, I was only slightly disappointed。 The story is weak, aimless, and hard to follow。 The characters aren't even as much as introduced to us properly, causing the emotional impact of the conclusion to feel shallow and like they were trying too hard。 The art is alright。 It's well-drawn for the most part, but sometimes there is a lot going on so it bec I've learned to not get my hopes up when dark horse releases Dragon Age books with stunning covers。 Good thing too, because with mediocre expectations, I was only slightly disappointed。 The story is weak, aimless, and hard to follow。 The characters aren't even as much as introduced to us properly, causing the emotional impact of the conclusion to feel shallow and like they were trying too hard。 The art is alright。 It's well-drawn for the most part, but sometimes there is a lot going on so it becomes a bit difficult to follow。 I personally find it all a bit too bright and colourful to be the grim and dark world of Thedas, and sometimes it felt more like a surprisingly gorey version of a childrens picture book by disney。 All in all, it's not awful, but it's not good either。 But is it worth the full hardcover money of 17。99$ US? Blue Wraith picks up immediately after Deception。 If you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend it before picking up Blue Wraith。Blue Wraith keeps with the previous comic's introduction of a new primary character with previous primaries taking secondary roles。 It follows the party as they continue to track down a magical lyrium artifact and they add Fenris (from Dragon Age 2) to the party。Overall, the story seemed more haphazard than previous comics。 The party gets split early and instead of one Blue Wraith picks up immediately after Deception。 If you haven't read it, I'd highly recommend it before picking up Blue Wraith。Blue Wraith keeps with the previous comic's introduction of a new primary character with previous primaries taking secondary roles。 It follows the party as they continue to track down a magical lyrium artifact and they add Fenris (from Dragon Age 2) to the party。Overall, the story seemed more haphazard than previous comics。 The party gets split early and instead of one full story it feels like you get half of two stories。 The drawing style is fine and the writing feels like Dragon Age。 It's a decent read but not the best of the series。 。。。more

Real bummer, I was STOKED about this book because I love my boy Fenris but it just wasn't well executed, none of the characters were meaningfully introduced, the plot was very scattered, the pacing was choppy, and the art/layout didn't help at all, it was very hard to follow what was happening。 Two stars because the covers are gorgeous and because Fenris。。。exists in it。 Real bummer, I was STOKED about this book because I love my boy Fenris but it just wasn't well executed, none of the characters were meaningfully introduced, the plot was very scattered, the pacing was choppy, and the art/layout didn't help at all, it was very hard to follow what was happening。 Two stars because the covers are gorgeous and because Fenris。。。exists in it。 。。。more
