Summary

When Ollie meets his dream guy, Will, over summer break, he thinks he’s found his Happily Ever After。 But once summer’s ended, Will stops texting him back, and Ollie finds himself one prince short of a fairytale ending。 To complicate the fairytale further, a family emergency sees Ollie uprooted and enrolled at a new school across the country—Will’s school—where Ollie finds that the sweet, affectionate and comfortably queer guy he knew from summer isn’t the same one attending Collinswood High。 This Will is a class clown, closeted—and, to be honest, a bit of a jerk。

Ollie has no intention of pining after a guy who clearly isn’t ready for a relationship。 But as Will starts ‘coincidentally’ popping up in every area of Ollie’s life, from music class to the lunch table, Ollie finds his resolve weakening。

The last time he gave Will his heart, Will handed it back to him trampled and battered。 Ollie would have to be an idiot to trust him with it again。

I liked this book a lot, I didn’t want to put it down。 Ollies shyness but also sassiness made him a really fun main character。 And that he also kinda looked at himself towards the end and saw what he was doing wrong was cool to see too。

Super cute YA romance!! Think Grease except Sandy is a gay punk rock guitar player from CA and Danny is a closeted basketball star who fall in love over summer but think they’ll never see each other again。 It gave me all the good feels。

They're everything。• The ending! The entire last two chapters, absolutely astounded。 Very satisfying how it all tied together in the end。 THE LOWS:• I'm happy to say I don't have many complaints。 But in saying that, I just want to address the ickiness of Will's friends sexualising sapphic relationships—Lara and Renee making out—and making homophobic jokes towards Oliver and Will, and then suddenly switching over when Lara was outed, as if their views had suddenly changed。 Boys in such cliques more often than not have horrible views on people living outside the norm, and I think a confrontation of such running situations and jokes would've been much more suitable than a simple switch。• Although I know it's partially just because they're stupid teenagers, I really did hate the stubbornness and frankly, plain stupidity, from both Will and Ollie, that at some points just felt entirely out of character for them。• Some things that were key elements of the story at one point would become minor and trivial in others and it was rather confusing。"And right here and now was the only thing that ever mattered anyway。" 。。。more

“It’s funny how you can spend weeks, or months, or sometimes even years preparing yourself for a nightmare that’s more “when” than “if”。 Then just when you’re fooling yourself that you’ve accepted the world’s end, and you’ll roll with the impact when it hits。。。 suddenly, it might be hitting, and you’re not rolling。 You’re collapsing, sitting where you stood, totally overwhelmed by a loss you were never really ready for” (124)。

Aunt Linda was the grown up influence he needed, she was great。 I liked the characters in this book so much。 Except for his parents, it's a toss up but forced positivity (mindfulness) is so not for me。 Seriously, sometimes you just need to feel feelings。 Idk。 Ollie was wonderful。 He's so funny。 So responsible。 So selfish and selfless。 Such a good kid。 I was rooting for him Will was such a low key mess。 A charming, ridiculous mess。 I love him。 Grease was Such a great story! Such a lovely modern Grease-re-telling (without the cringey things from it)!Only Mostly Devastated is a wonderfully told story about being a teenager, going towards your thing and finding acceptance and friendship。 A diverse set of characters, big feelings and hopeful endings make me squeal happily and I enjoyed reading this a lot。(Okay, sometimes it feels hard when there are so many big and sad things in the books of this genre, but I still love them and I understand why these things are there。 Such a lovely modern Grease-re-telling (without the cringey things from it)!Only Mostly Devastated is a wonderfully told story about being a teenager, going towards your thing and finding acceptance and friendship。 A diverse set of characters, big feelings and hopeful endings make me squeal happily and I enjoyed reading this a lot。(Okay, sometimes it feels hard when there are so many big and sad things in the books of this genre, but I still love them and I understand why these things are there。) 。。。more

3。5 stars! This was so cute 🥺I appreciated the lightness in a high-school love story after my last read。 The writing was simple yet beautiful, making it easy to speed through this reimagining of one of my favorite 80's love story。 I loved our hispanic lead/love interest and how his culture was highlighted despite living in a place like North Carolina。 The representation on this story overall is beautiful!

The book Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales was a great read。 The book talks about homophobia and not being your real self。 Ollie and Will had an amazing love story。 Ollie soon gets enrolled at the same school as Will and learns that the Will he loves and knows isn't the same guy that he is in school。 Will is caring and loving to Ollie but when Ollie arrives at school he is quick to learn that Will is closeted and seems to be king of a jerk at school。 Ollie doesn't exactly want a relation The book Only Mostly Devastated by Sophie Gonzales was a great read。 The book talks about homophobia and not being your real self。 Ollie and Will had an amazing love story。 Ollie soon gets enrolled at the same school as Will and learns that the Will he loves and knows isn't the same guy that he is in school。 Will is caring and loving to Ollie but when Ollie arrives at school he is quick to learn that Will is closeted and seems to be king of a jerk at school。 Ollie doesn't exactly want a relationship with someone who clearly can't be really who he is at school。 I found this book to be really compelling。 It teaches people to be who you are and not who other people think you should be。 When they get enrolled in the same school they learn that their Will isn't who he seems to be。 It shows the fear in coming out and some people dont which can drive relationships apart and soon to an end。 This book was an amazing read and I would love to read the next book that Sophia Gonzales writes。 She made an amazing story and something that I can’t personally relate to but gives a view of what it id like for someone who does happen to relate to it。 。。。more

Ollie has a summer romance straight out of a movie。 Things get even better when he finds out he's moving and he's going to be going to the same school as his summer love, Will。 Unfortunately, Summer Will and School Will are completely different people。 Will basically pretends that the summer never happened, leaving Ollie only mostly devastated ;) Thoughts:- I loved Ollie and Lara's friendship!! It grew on me so much and I was very happy that they were able to find solace in each other after the rocky beginning - I liked the scenes of Ollie and Will's summer because I felt like it was proof of this other version of Will that Ollie loved。 Will is sort of an a**hole in the beginning but seeing how sweet he was over summer really made me feel for Ollie- I did find it odd that after moving Ollie never spoke to his friends from back home again。 You went to school with these people for a long time and now it's your senior year and you just drifted? Sort of odd but then again different sides of the country, Ollie had a lot going on, and his friends didn't really seem to care that their band was making progress without Ollie so - I liked how Ollie didn't immediately forgive Will for acting like the summer never happened despite how badly he wanted to。 Self-love! Refusing to be treated like sh!t ! Love that for him! Overall 4/5 stars。 It was a very cute story with side characters that actually had depth and value as opposed to just being props for the main character。 Definitely recommend to anyone who likes YA romance :) 。。。more

And I am disappointed yet again。 I'm so sure these women read Japanese yaoi all day long。 They have no excuse for making characters so bland with zero romance and no passion。 Ollie has spent the first 1/3 of this book butthurt over a mistake, Will was a dipshit who could have handled things better, Ollie's new friends are weird (well, Lara is, and I don't like how Juliette and Neeve COULD HAVE warned Ollie about Will, but chose not to。) The cancer story is just FUCK。 Like, why do I need this in my life? Why? Why can't I just enjoy a cute story without some woman fucking dying and her annoying kids talking about Frozen like it's 2012 and YA authors are referencing Harry Potter。 Like thank god JK Rowling isn't cool anymore so these hipster fucks will finally shut up with the Harry Potter references, holy shit was that an annoying trend that would never end! Anyway that rant doesn't belong here, sorry。I'm determined to finish this book, so I'll be back to complain about the rest of it, I guess。 Hopefully it starts getting better soon because right now I have this review set to 1 star。___Oh, I'm back already:One night, in the middle of one of these fits of despair, I asked Mom if she had any huge regrets from when she was a teenager。 She apparently thought the appropriate response to that question was to break out into an off-key rendition of “Let It Be” by the Beatles。 Word for word。 From beginning to end。 A performance I was expected to watch in full。 I made a mental note never to ask Mom for relationship advice again。 This is supposed to be funny。 Imagine having a mother this insufferable and disrespectful。 No wonder Ollie is such a used tampon, he takes after his mother。___I forgot, there is also an E-story: Ollie helps Juliette with some music audition type thing。 Honestly it's a complete waste of time and space。___Holy fuck, it's Thanksgiving, the aunt is slowly dying in the hospital, everyone is miserable and bickering with each other。 What is this shit? I don't remember this being in Grease。 I dealt with cancer in my own life twice so far。 I read books labeled "Cute" to see "cute。" Add I get surprise cancer instead。 Really, I have the worst luck with books。 This sucks。___ 。。。more
