This was a creepy read。 At times I found I had shivers running down my back while I was reading。 You had to keep your wits about you when you started a new chapter as this book jumps around with dates and characters so much so that sometimes I had to go back to the beginning of the chapter to work out who I was reading about。 This was a good book but slow at times which annoyed me a little。 It could have sped up a little so it would t have been so long。

I loved this book, the setting was amazing the travelling back and forth between time was really well done and I was sad when I finished it。

Thrilling, magical, and desperately sad。 A mystical story combining so much history, folklore, and mystery that all boils down to what one is really capable of doing for those they love。

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The ending was not my favourite but other than that I enjoyed the mystery, the spookiness, and the prose。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Interesting choice to add the time-travel element in a story about witches of Scotland。 It makes so much sense that people who enter the cave and accidentally time-travel would be accused of witchcraft in the middle ages。 What else could explain that? The intertwining stories and points of view made the narrative very interesting。 I ended up liking this more than I thought I would。 Perfect witchy Halloween vibes! ✨🦇🧹

Wow wow wow。 This book had such an interesting and intense storyline。 It’s told from multiple POVs in different timelines。 The whole time i was reading, I kept trying to guess what the ending would be and I had so many different scenarios in my head - but the main plot reveal I could not have guessed。 It was also spooky and had sinister undertones surrounding Scottish myths and legends。 SO GOOD。

This gripped me from start to finish。 Was totally not what I expected but really enjoyed it。

This book I got in a drawing and I really liked it! I definitely was excepting that ending!!

3。5 - I really loved the story but the ending just seemed really lacklustre and a bit lazy。 Not enough explanations given。

Very slow in the beginning and I did struggle to like some of the main characters at first。 But, it did pick up near the end ad I really enjoyed the ending。 Also learning about some of Scotland's folklore was very interesting and the author did an awesome job explaining it when needed。 I do recommend this book to those who love cozy mysteries that don't involve murder。 Very slow in the beginning and I did struggle to like some of the main characters at first。 But, it did pick up near the end ad I really enjoyed the ending。 Also learning about some of Scotland's folklore was very interesting and the author did an awesome job explaining it when needed。 I do recommend this book to those who love cozy mysteries that don't involve murder。 。。。more

Don't think I could love this book more if I tried。 A creepy and atmospheric story involving witchcraft, time travel and a mysterious lighthouse, you will be kept guessing the whole way through。 Don't think I could love this book more if I tried。 A creepy and atmospheric story involving witchcraft, time travel and a mysterious lighthouse, you will be kept guessing the whole way through。 。。。more

An interesting and unusual story with a strong supernatural theme and likeable characters throughout。 Mum, Liv, heads to a remote Scottish location with her three daughters, Clover, Luna and Saffy to undertake a commission to paint a mural in a lighthouse。 Children appear and disappear and no one can explain why。The narrative skips between 1998 and 2021 as the story unfolds and the ending is bittersweet。

Lara

Read 60% of this, then found that I preferred to clean the oven rather than tackle a new chapter。 What I want from a novel is to be entertained or educated, preferably both。 The depressed characters, illness & spooky children just didn’t do it for me, so I gave myself permission to abandon the text。

Review to come。

Great Halloween read。 Loved the strange mystery and loved even more how it was not neatly packaged。 Great story。

Gah, I've had to sit on this one for a while and tbh I still don't know how I feel。 I really liked the first 2/3 or so of this book。 It's mysterious and atmospheric and a bit frustrating (in a good way) and I was super intrigued。 Then it takes a turn I wasn't expecting and didn't particularly connect with but maybe that is just a me thing。 There was a lot about this book that kept me interested and guessing and I for sure didn't predict how it went。 This is my second book by Cooke and I really e Gah, I've had to sit on this one for a while and tbh I still don't know how I feel。 I really liked the first 2/3 or so of this book。 It's mysterious and atmospheric and a bit frustrating (in a good way) and I was super intrigued。 Then it takes a turn I wasn't expecting and didn't particularly connect with but maybe that is just a me thing。 There was a lot about this book that kept me interested and guessing and I for sure didn't predict how it went。 This is my second book by Cooke and I really enjoy her writing。 I highly recommend her book I Know My Name but I recommend going into it completely blind! 。。。more

𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴I didn't think I would have enjoyed this book as much as I did!! It was gripping, suspenseful, atmospheric and creepy! This had everything that I could hope for in a book, folklore, witch trials, different timelines and short chapters! The author created such an eerie atmosphere and there were a few parts in the book I felt slightly on edge! Written from many different POV's it's safe to say that I couldn't put the book down, I needed to know how it was going to end!The only fault I can 𝘛𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘴I didn't think I would have enjoyed this book as much as I did!! I liked the story and the magic。 I think the audio experience would have been better if it was formatted completely differently lol。

Overall a solid read。 Loved the main characters and they way they developed throughout。 Definitely a bit of a slow burn but wraps up nicely。 The writing itself came through a bit basic and not very academic。 It does deliver on the atmosphere, suspence and plot twists。

Hailey

My biggest gripe about this book is the formatting/chapter numbers。 The dual POV+time line was just a lot。 The story itself has such a unique plot and I really enjoyed the magic concepts。

Idk I wanted to enjoy this but I was just disappointed。 The premise had a lot of potential but the execution was poor。 I didn't form any sort of attachment to any of the characters as they were all just。。。。 Naive and not very likeable? But not in a good way? The writing style was equally not for me - it felt like C。J。 Cooke was holding your hand throughout, which can be done well on occasion but missed the mark here。 The ending seemed to me like all the loose ends that were left were just tied u Idk I wanted to enjoy this but I was just disappointed。 The premise had a lot of potential but the execution was poor。 I didn't form any sort of attachment to any of the characters as they were all just。。。。 Naive and not very likeable? 3。5/5 ⭐️Read this book with a group。 This is one of those stories where you truly can’t predict the ending which leaves you turning the pages just to find answers。 The only downfall was that the switching narratives and timelines sometimes got confusing with so many voices in the mix。 Otherwise, it was a great read with just the right amount of spook and mystery。
