I think this book is great in getting children to understand symbolism。 There are small symbols that many times readers seem to miss or think picture-books are for younger audiences, but they sometimes miss out of the literal symbols within the story, such as the bell in the Polar Express and we can symbolize it to many things。

An absolutely magical Christmas book I've loved since I was a little girl, I hope all children get to read this book or get it read to them & get to experience the magic of it as well。 An absolutely magical Christmas book I've loved since I was a little girl, I hope all children get to read this book or get it read to them & get to experience the magic of it as well。 。。。more

Honestly, everyone can read this book and it'll teach you things about the importance of Christmas alongside Santa as long as you believe in it。 I'm happy that it became a movie and a perfect read when it's Christmas Eve。 Honestly, everyone can read this book and it'll teach you things about the importance of Christmas alongside Santa as long as you believe in it。 I'm happy that it became a movie and a perfect read when it's Christmas Eve。 。。。more

Primary (2-3)Modern FantasyThe illustrations in this book are amazing and the story is one that keeps you hooked all the way! This book feels like Christmas。 It is full of imagination and wonder, it's warm and exciting, has a little bit of coldness to it especially in the illustrations, and overall a great book to keep close during the holiday season。 No matter your age you can find such meaning in this books lessons of hope, friendship, giving, and well, the true meaning of Christmas! The text seemed a bit wooden。 Some of the pictures are neat, but I agree with someone who commented they aren't sure how much they would draw children in。 The text seemed a bit wooden。 Some of the pictures are neat, but I agree with someone who commented they aren't sure how much they would draw children in。 。。。more

The Polar Express is a wonderful classic story that has been adapted into a movie。 A little boy wakes up on Christmas Eve to the sound of a train that ends up being the infamous polar express。 The train is going to the North Pole to visit Santa。 The story overall explores his experience on the train and being able to see Santa's workshop。 I don't think I would use this story in my classroom because overall I feel like it would only be beneficial for students who celebrate Christmas。 Although, th The Polar Express is a wonderful classic story that has been adapted into a movie。 A little boy wakes up on Christmas Eve to the sound of a train that ends up being the infamous polar express。 The train is going to the North Pole to visit Santa。 The story overall explores his experience on the train and being able to see Santa's workshop。 I don't think I would use this story in my classroom because overall I feel like it would only be beneficial for students who celebrate Christmas。 Although, this was something I enjoyed as a child it is not inclusive for different religions and belief。 However, I can appreciate the wonderful imagination in the story。 。。。more

I thought this book was very good。 I've seen the movie and I love that in the end the kids are able to make it to the North Pole。 Seeing Santa was a good way to end the movie。 I thought this book was very good。 I've seen the movie and I love that in the end the kids are able to make it to the North Pole。 Seeing Santa was a good way to end the movie。 。。。more

The Polar Express is one of those Christmas classics that you can never grow tired of。 This is the story of a young boy who just doesn't believe in Santa。 One night he is awaken by the sound of a train he runs outside and a ticket for the train appears。 The train is headed straight to the North Pole。 He boards the train with a few other young children who are also non believers。 I mean who wouldn't want to board a mysterious train, with other young kids, going to the North Pole to bring back the The Polar Express is one of those Christmas classics that you can never grow tired of。 This is the story of a young boy who just doesn't believe in Santa。 One night he is awaken by the sound of a train he runs outside and a ticket for the train appears。 The train is headed straight to the North Pole。 He boards the train with a few other young children who are also non believers。 I mean who wouldn't want to board a mysterious train, with other young kids, going to the North Pole to bring back their belief in Santa。 Chris Van Allsburg does an amazing job of bringing the emotion and Christmas spirit to life in his illustrations。 They are captivating, jaw dropping, almost unbelievable illustrations that will gather the attention of all readers young and old。 This book brings an almost child like feeling for adults when reading it。 It brings you back to your holiday traditions whatever they may be。 Back to waking up Christmas morning, seeing all of the presents Santa left for you under the tree。 These feelings are hard to replicate for some authors, but not Chris Van Allsburg。 I read this to my kids around Christmas time and they love it。 I highly recommend this book for all ages young and old。 。。。more

This is a classic Christmas children's book for all ages。 It explores a new adventure of Christmas that follows a train to the North Pole showing the magic of elves, reindeer, and Santa。 The illustration in this book consisted of two-page spreads to depict the pictures clearly to the reader。 The illustration uses realism in cartoon-like form。 The illustration is very crisp and clear to see which makes it easy for the reader to decipher the pictures related to the written word。 The use of blacks This is a classic Christmas children's book for all ages。 It explores a new adventure of Christmas that follows a train to the North Pole showing the magic of elves, reindeer, and Santa。 The illustration in this book consisted of two-page spreads to depict the pictures clearly to the reader。 The illustration uses realism in cartoon-like form。 The illustration is very crisp and clear to see which makes it easy for the reader to decipher the pictures related to the written word。 The use of blacks and blues creates a mysterious feel and contributed to the setting of the story being a cold dark snowy night during Christmas Eve。 Also, the illustration of the children gathered around the boy when he lost the silver bell conveys the emotion in that moment where you can see his head hung low in sadness and one children even depicted gasping in shook。 。。。more

I thought this book was a great Christmas story。 It shows a little boy who is confused on whether he believes in Santa Clause or not and goes on an adventure to meet him。 When he does meet Santa, he ends up claiming the first Christmas gift of the night。 This book allows kids to know that they have a choice on whether they want to believe or not。 Either way, is okay and I believe this story will point children in the right direction to believe again。 The illustrations are beautiful and are able I thought this book was a great Christmas story。 It shows a little boy who is confused on whether he believes in Santa Clause or not and goes on an adventure to meet him。 When he does meet Santa, he ends up claiming the first Christmas gift of the night。 This book allows kids to know that they have a choice on whether they want to believe or not。 Either way, is okay and I believe this story will point children in the right direction to believe again。 The illustrations are beautiful and are able to tell the story without the words。 。。。more

The Polar Express is a Christmas favorite and has been for many years。 The book is a story of belief and love as a group of children take a train to the North Pole where they meet Santa and discover the true meaning of Christmas。 The images are warm and inviting like sitting by a warm fireplace during the holidays。 It was made to be the classic movie which extended its popularity。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A cozy Christmas story that makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside! It reminds me of a snowy day right before Christmas break。 This story follows a boy who gets on a train the night before Christmas that is supposedly going to the north pole。 While on the train they indulge in hot cocoa and watch the snow fall through the windows of the train。 When the train reaches the North Pole, the children see thousands of elves in the town square。 Once they get off the train and into the crowd of elves, the A cozy Christmas story that makes me warm and fuzzy on the inside! He is really on this obsession with polar express movie right now。 He first fell in love with the train I believe, but has come to really enjoy the story。 We read the book tonight and he was comparing and contrasting with the movie ( like we all do with books turned movies ! ) 。 He enjoyed the pictures, but also the story。 I love the art。

This was perfectly…。 Okay。 The story/text was just a little disappointing。 The pages had really thick text, which doesn’t hold little ones’ attentions spans very well。 I usually have to abridge the pages for little ones。 And the illustrations were really…。 I don’t know… muted…。 Fuzzy。 I can’t really put my finger on it。 It just wasn’t what I was expecting after hearing so much about it。

This is a classic Christmas story that I would consider using for teaching illustration in a language arts class。 With little written character development, we learn the story through the illustrations。 We see the apparent danger of the world outside the train, the joy of the North Pole, the kind guidance and reassurance of Santa Clause, and the poor boy's skepticism。 We also see the joy that he feels on Christmas day。 This is a classic Christmas story that I would consider using for teaching illustration in a language arts class。 With little written character development, we learn the story through the illustrations。 We see the apparent danger of the world outside the train, the joy of the North Pole, the kind guidance and reassurance of Santa Clause, and the poor boy's skepticism。 We also see the joy that he feels on Christmas day。 。。。more

This was my first time reading The Polar Express。 I have seen the movie many times but never read the book before。 I honestly didn't know there was a book。 It was a good book。 I liked reading it and thinking about the movie and what was the same and different。 This would be a good one to use to talk about how books and movies can be alike and different with students。 This was my first time reading The Polar Express。 I have seen the movie many times but never read the book before。 I honestly didn't know there was a book。 It was a good book。 I liked reading it and thinking about the movie and what was the same and different。 This would be a good one to use to talk about how books and movies can be alike and different with students。 。。。more
