Summary

Love isn't always part of the plan 。 。 。 A charming, heartwarming story following a Miami girl who unexpectedly finds love – and herself – in a small English town。

Soon to be a movie starring Heartstopper's Kit Connor and Pretty Little Liars' Maia Reficco!

For Lila Reyes, a summer in England hadn't been on the cards。 Certainly not one stuck in the small town of Winchester with a lack of sun and zero Miami flavour。 But when Lila meets Orion Maxwell in the local tea shop, her nightmare trip starts to look up。 With a bright new future suddenly on the horizon, will Lila leave behind everything she's ever planned and follow her heart?

A New York Times bestseller and Reese Witherspoon x Hello Sunshine Book Club YA Pick。

Such a cute teen read。 Def gave me “Eat, Pray, Love” vibes in a PG version。 Warning: reading about all the yummy treats she makes will definitely cause bread and sweet cravings。

Very satisfying YA fiction。Part of my concerted effort to diversify my reading overall, and not hurt by the Reece’s Bookclub recommendation but I really enjoyed the story。 Not too fluffy but a sweet HEA, some great emotional processing and dealing with the complexities of people’s mental health crises when life does genuinely pile too much on you at once; I was happy with the paperback but would have liked it more on the kindle at times, there’s a decent quantity of Spanish language and expressi Very satisfying YA fiction。Part of my concerted effort to diversify my reading overall, and not hurt by the Reece’s Bookclub recommendation but I really enjoyed the story。 Not too fluffy but a sweet HEA, some great emotional processing and dealing with the complexities of people’s mental health crises when life does genuinely pile too much on you at once; I was happy with the paperback but would have liked it more on the kindle at times, there’s a decent quantity of Spanish language and expressions, which is wonderful and authentic but not a language I’m familiar with, beyond Dora the Explorer (I’m interested, but had almost not exposure- that’s an Australian thing I’m sure) and I’ve have liked to have hit the lockup a few times! The ‘recipe for’ sections weren’t odious, and I usually cringe at those, and even though Lila’s food and fortune happenstance of the perfect English love interest was a little too good to be true, it was an enjoyable read, even if surely not -everything- needs to be ‘Cuban’! But also made me hungry, which the movie Chef inspired an interest in Cubanos that this certainly didn’t extinguish! I’d be interested in more by this author too 😏 。。。more

What a fun book to read。 I loved the “mash-up” of Cuban and British cultures especially the stuff about the food。 Makes me want to eat a Cuban sandwich!

The story follows Lila who’s been made to go to England after a bout of bad events occurring。 As expected she wasn’t too keen to go but she found comfort in the kitchen as she usually does back in Miami and with her new friends and especially the cake batter licker, Orion。 Orion was just such a gentleman and I loved how thoughtful he was with taking Lila to different places in England and making her feel comfortable, I also think he pushed Lila to chase her dreams which I loved the most。 The other side stories also tied in well, especially Orion’s family and the struggles that his sister Flora was facing。 I was glad she had Lila to look up to by the end。 It was a really easy read and I wished there was a second so I could see how the story continues for Lila! 。。。more

This book was just something I never expected。 The story line is beautiful and the relationship between the main character and others is amazing。 The ending to the book is definitely one that will make you tear up but if joy。 I feel like it teaches a few life lessons throughout the book which I will take away。 All in all this book is definitely up there to be one of my favourites and can hopefully find more books from this Autor。

DNF。 Dude, I’m 50% I to the audio book and nothing is happening。 The bad British accent doesn’t help。

Overall, this book was good but I felt that there wasn't anything to rave about。 At times it felt like the story dragged and was a bit cringy, but it was a good story。 Lila and Orion have a good story and I really liked the way the book ended。 Overall, just an average, good book。 Overall, this book was good but I felt that there wasn't anything to rave about。 At times it felt like the story dragged and was a bit cringy, but it was a good story。 Lila and Orion have a good story and I really liked the way the book ended。 Overall, just an average, good book。 。。。more

This was fine but the Spanglish was so weird to me it did not flow at all 😩 and I didn’t really like the narrative voice style very much

I couldn’t physically put down this book! I started to read this due to the movie being made in my area with actors I love。 I was very scared it was going to be boring or too cheesy but I was wrong。 Its just the right amount of everything! The characters are likeable and the love is sweet。 You really find yourself falling in love with Orion。 Highly recommend to anybody that loves a sweet romance with an exotic charm!

honestly, this book really just deserves all the stars in the world。 i’ve never seen myself represented in a book before。 this was my first time reading and seeing a latina as the main character in a book, and especially a latina living in miami 🤍 i related to every single word, feeling, thought that lila had even if i’ve never really experienced what it’s like to run a bakery or to visit england and fall in love at the same time 🥹 i really just want to thank the namey for writing this book beca honestly, this book really just deserves all the stars in the world。 i’ve never seen myself represented in a book before。 this was my first time reading and seeing a latina as the main character in a book, and especially a latina living in miami 🤍 i related to every single word, feeling, thought that lila had even if i’ve never really experienced what it’s like to run a bakery or to visit england and fall in love at the same time 🥹 i really just want to thank the namey for writing this book because it really just goes to show how representation in books and media really does have a positive impact on people, myself included! i’m so so glad this book is getting a movie adaptation and i can’t wait to see it 🫶🏼 。。。more

When I saw that Kit Connor was going to be in the adapted movie for this book, I just had to read it to see😂It was pretty good, since I lived in Miami it made me have connections to some parts of the book, I like how the main characters’ relationship stayed as friends until they truly knew what they felt about each other。 And OF COURSE I looooved the fact that there was pastries and food involved throughout the whole story!

Charlotte

I really wanted to love this book but I just couldn’t get over the descriptions of my home town。 On top of that, I got 40% in and didn’t really feel a connection to the characters or like anything much was happening。 Really hoping the film is better 🤞🏻and I might give it another shot the nearer the release gets

Amazing! The emotion this story evokes。。。 This was like reading my feelings。Lela's story was just so beautiful。 It was heart-wrenching, and sad, and hopeful, and cathartic, and heartwarming。 I felt all of the feelings。 I smiled, and laughed, and cried。I am conflicted about wanting to see more of Lela and Orion's story, but thinking it ended perfectly。 Amazing! It all sounded so mouthwateringly (is that a word??) good!!❥ This wasn't a five star read for a couple of reasons:1) the plot felt like it repeated itself a bit。2) there was a lot of swearing, and while swearing doesn't bother me too much, it did in this book。 It just felt completely unnecessary。❥ Lila loves to bake。 She loves to feed people。 She loves when she can light up a room with her food。 She has her good moments and her bad moments, but this story is about growth, and Lila (and all the other characters) certainly does a lot of growing throughout。❥ If you like:☕ Tea🍰 Baking🥰 Cosy feels🇬🇧 England 💕 Cute romance🍦 Love and Gelato by Jenna Evans WelchThen definitely read this book!Crossing fingers the movie turns out good!❥ Content: frequent swearing (sh*t, b***h & possibly some words in Spanish), infrequent vulgarity, under-age drinking, lusty kissing (easily skipped) 。。。more

This is definitely a YA romance story。 It felt at times that the Cuban thing was just put in but that could be that I am an adult so was expecting something else。 I was thinking it would pull me in like the movie Chef but didn't。 I was looking for more of the Cuban family dynamic so that was probably the mistake I made going in。 The food parts did make me yearn for my mom's tamales。 This book was cute but definitely geared towards middle schoolers。 This is definitely a YA romance story。 It felt at times that the Cuban thing was just put in but that could be that I am an adult so was expecting something else。 I was thinking it would pull me in like the movie Chef but didn't。 I was looking for more of the Cuban family dynamic so that was probably the mistake I made going in。 The food parts did make me yearn for my mom's tamales。 This book was cute but definitely geared towards middle schoolers。 。。。more
