Like other Greene's books this is for the insecure man, generally American, or the closet narcissist to justify their actions。 Anyone who sees the world as it is depicted in this guy's books needs psychological intervention, not a self-help book on how to be an asshat。I am going to give some examples of people I've ran across who value Greene's books highly or practice their teachings otherwise:An insecure call-center manager whose job was to convince people to sell magazines to people with deme Like other Greene's books this is for the insecure man, generally American, or the closet narcissist to justify their actions。 Anyone who sees the world as it is depicted in this guy's books needs psychological intervention, not a self-help book on how to be an asshat。I am going to give some examples of people I've ran across who value Greene's books highly or practice their teachings otherwise:An insecure call-center manager whose job was to convince people to sell magazines to people with dementia with a deceitful hiring practice。An insecure player of a roleplaying game who would pay himself silly to amount to a competitive figure in the game。 Would take in game actions personally and pursue them as slights to his real person no matter who benign。 Would pursue any contrary view in an argument as an assault on his person。 Would just constantly lie to big himself up。 Tried to get to people who were mean to his pretend character via real life means。An insecure player of a roleplaying game who had it posted on the game's forums that he had a small dick by a lay。 Would relentlessly bully people who were mean to his pretend character。 Possibly had an ex-alcoholic get drunk cuz they were mean to his pretend character。An insecure ex-friend who after a break up and failing school decided that he should boost his fragile ego by hounding people with mental illnesses。An insecure former acquaintance high on both narcissisim and machievellanism who decided that he should act like a twat and manipulate the well meaning people around him。In summary, it is not a crowd one needs to find themselves in。 。。。more

Robert greene started to bore me after the 50th law。 His message is mostly the same in all of his books。 His style of writing doesn't change at all。 His stories are repetitive, talking about Napoleon too many times。 I enjoyed this book while I was reading it。 But it's time to stop reading Robert Greene。 Robert greene started to bore me after the 50th law。 His message is mostly the same in all of his books。 His style of writing doesn't change at all。 His stories are repetitive, talking about Napoleon too many times。 I enjoyed this book while I was reading it。 But it's time to stop reading Robert Greene。 。。。more

My fifth favourite of the five Robert Greene books I’ve read so far。 But that says less about the quality of this book and more about the quality of Power, Human Nature, Mastery and Seduction

Inspiring and motivating book on how to be more rational and strategic when it comes to conflict, channeling our aggresive impulses instead of denying or repressing them。 Too much, maybe, for your taste? I agree that this book, as with all by Robert Greene, is a treat to read。 He somehow achieves maximum levels of both entertainment and education at the same time。What also stands-out about this author's classics is the emphasis on production quality。 As the world seems to be putting a greater and greater premium on cheapness, Robert Greene's books are printed in the highest quality: design, font, color, paper quality。 I appreciate these things。 When you create something you care about, you want I agree that this book, as with all by Robert Greene, is a treat to read。 He somehow achieves maximum levels of both entertainment and education at the same time。What also stands-out about this author's classics is the emphasis on production quality。 As the world seems to be putting a greater and greater premium on cheapness, Robert Greene's books are printed in the highest quality: design, font, color, paper quality。 I appreciate these things。 When you create something you care about, you want the best for it。 If Greene is willing to invest this much in the printing, it indicates that he cares。 And when I read a book, more than anything else, I want an author who cares。。。 not about me, but about the book。 Then I know it will be a sincere read。 。。。more

Typical Green format - bunch of exciting stories, followed by feel good “interpretation”。 Read for the stories, the “principles” or strategies are generic (not bad, just not earth shaking)。

Činjenica da sam do kraja pročitao ovu bolesno dosadnu knjigu samo pokazuje moju istinsku želju za završavanjem stvari koje počnem raditi。

I really enjoy Robert Greene as a writer there is a lot of knowledge in this book。 I really enjoy history so I liked all of the different war story’s throughout。 It’s supposed to be a guide on how to use military principles in everyday life。 I really enjoyed the first section because it talks about yourself and how life is in your control and perspective is everything。 I also like the section on how to work for a master in a group。 Also I enjoyed all the history in defensive and offensive war st I really enjoy Robert Greene as a writer there is a lot of knowledge in this book。 I really enjoy history so I liked all of the different war story’s throughout。 It’s supposed to be a guide on how to use military principles in everyday life。 I really enjoyed the first section because it talks about yourself and how life is in your control and perspective is everything。 I also like the section on how to work for a master in a group。 Also I enjoyed all the history in defensive and offensive war strategies section。 Most wont like this book but i pulled a lot of great information out of this book some I might even try In real life。 。。。more

I have two words to describe this book: terrifyingly irresistible。 I was thoroughly engrossed。 Not only does it offer you a good glimpse of the human psyche as well as the monstrous evil that is out there but also insights on how you can prevent yourself from falling prey to it。 This is truly a book on the social game of everyday life。 Be it in the area of politics, business, or whatsoever。 Use it as a tool to protect yourself。

There's a lot of good material in this book。 However, there's also a lot superfluous fluff in it as well。I learned to skip all of the author's interpretations, for example。 They are redundant and, in my opinion, not worth the effort to read them。 There's a lot of good material in this book。 However, there's also a lot superfluous fluff in it as well。I learned to skip all of the author's interpretations, for example。 They are redundant and, in my opinion, not worth the effort to read them。 。。。more

Robert Greene’s analysis of war and the inevitable of conflict is brilliant。 His analogy of Greek mythology and the Gods of Olympus is a perfect synopsis for understanding the goal of handling conflict in his book(Praise Athena not Ares)。 Athena being the strategist that looked to skillfully avert direct conflict, while Ares reveled in the brutal and carnal aspect of war。War has played and essential roll in humanity to push social, economic, and political agendas, and is inevitable。 As society h Robert Greene’s analysis of war and the inevitable of conflict is brilliant。 His analogy of Greek mythology and the Gods of Olympus is a perfect synopsis for understanding the goal of handling conflict in his book(Praise Athena not Ares)。 Athena being the strategist that looked to skillfully avert direct conflict, while Ares reveled in the brutal and carnal aspect of war。War has played and essential roll in humanity to push social, economic, and political agendas, and is inevitable。 As society has grown more complex, the overt war has been somewhat suppressed, yet wars are fought constantly in everyday life。 Robert Greene’s analysis of war strategies are broken down, using strategies of great conquerors of history, and breaking down their utility for the everyday soldier so that they may become a more aware general in their campaign of life。 I would 10/10 recommend, especially for those looking to navigate business and political landscapes。Conflict is inevitable, you might as well arm yourself to better manage。 。。。more

The master of the dark artsRobert Greene is the only author that I hesitate to reveal too much in my review, due to the immense amount of tricks he teaches us in order to thrive in this rough world。 His lessons are so valuable and directly applicable it feels like I’ve been given the cheat code in the game of life, one that I’d rather put in a metaphorical safe box rather than give away for nothing。At many points in my life I can see his theses and examples from the many wars in history get anal The master of the dark artsRobert Greene is the only author that I hesitate to reveal too much in my review, due to the immense amount of tricks he teaches us in order to thrive in this rough world。 His lessons are so valuable and directly applicable it feels like I’ve been given the cheat code in the game of life, one that I’d rather put in a metaphorical safe box rather than give away for nothing。At many points in my life I can see his theses and examples from the many wars in history get analogically implemented by the most successful people and the best of the best around me, which prompted me to wonder whether they all read Greene’s books? Nah, some of them don’t even like to read books。 Or do they, secretly? Even if I don’t implement them all, the book gives me so much insights from all the tricks that may be used by others, and that’s really useful。Now, the fact of the matter is the majority of human existence are spent in wars。 And this book selected some of the best stories from wars, diplomacy and many other confrontational nature throughout history, to learn from their strategies, the implementations, and the philosophies behind them。 And in the world according to Robert Greene, there’s no time to be kind and be genuinely nice as it is a rough dog-eat-dog world out there, which as you can imagine have drawn many criticism from the “world peace” crowd。 But he’s a no-bullshit realist, whom approaches life as it is with no sugar coating or hope for an ideal circumstance。 Indeed, instead of thinking like a religion and preaching people how to live perfectly and be naive with our imperfect surroundings, Greene acknowledges the chaotic reality of daily lives and teaches us the tools to function well in it。 Some are subtle, some are even decent, but many are viciously effective。In this regard, he’s like the master of the dark arts to the other side of the coin: Greene’s own protege Ryan Holiday’s meditations on Stoicism that approaches the chaos of life from the calm and thoughtful side, one that provide us with inner strength。 Combine this with Greene’s array of strategies for our outer strength, and you’ll get one mighty set of survivor tools at your disposal in the journey of life。 Ok I should stop, I’ve said too much already。 。。。more

I’m too intimidated to write a real review, so I’ll just say this: I feel like I’ll return to Greene’s work over and over again, for my whole life。 Almost certainly one of the greatest living nonfiction writers。

After the first 1/3 or so of this book, I expected I would give it five stars and consider it one of my top three or so favorite books of all time。 I hadn't had much previous exposure to these kinds of military history stories。 I found them fascinating and the connections I saw to video games I've been playing even more interesting。 A few things changed between then and now:(1) The book became very repetitive。 Several chapters expressed the same general idea in slightly different terms, despite After the first 1/3 or so of this book, I expected I would give it five stars and consider it one of my top three or so favorite books of all time。 I hadn't had much previous exposure to these kinds of military history stories。 I found them fascinating and the connections I saw to video games I've been playing even more interesting。 A few things changed between then and now:(1) The book became very repetitive。 Several chapters expressed the same general idea in slightly different terms, despite purporting to present distinct strategies。 Maybe the author thought that it would be tiresome to hear so many examples of the same idea in a row so he wanted to break them up into different chapters, but I'd prefer those many examples all in a row and in the same chapter because it would make the organization more logical。(2) There's some content that's essentially taken right from his other books without much change。 I understand that the same idea might be a strategy of war, a law of power, a law of seduction, and a law of human nature all at the same time, but it did make the book less captivating and interesting when I was rushing through the content I had already seen before。(3) For me, the author doesn't do enough to reconcile facially inconsistent strategies/laws。 For example, one strategy of war is to concentrate your forces。 Another strategy is to segment your forces into different groups so they can operate on their own with greater speed and flexibility。 Another strategy is to flank or encircle the enemy from multiple sides, which inherently involves dividing your forces。 These clearly are facially inconsistent--should you concentrate your forces as one strong whole, or should you separate them for the speed and flanking benefits? I know the author thinks these facial inconsistencies makes sense, since these strategies/laws are not rigidly codifiable--a lot depends on circumstances。 And that's perfectly reasonable。 But I wish the author would do more of the work of reconciling them for the reader。 One possible way of reconciling this inconsistency is to say that you should either concentrate your forces or, if not, get some benefit out of dividing them (e。g。 the ability to flank or encircle), but you shouldn't allow them to be divided for no reason/benefit。 The author doesn't say anything like that but instead largely leaves the reader to recognize inconsistencies where the exist and then to reconcile them。 It's possible for the reader to do that, and I did that in some cases, but I wonder how many other inconsistencies I didn't even recognize let alone reconcile。 And I think the book's failure to do this matters more than it might seem: these kinds of reconciliations provide some of the most useful and practicable insights because they tell you in what situations a certain strategy would or wouldn't apply。In light of all of these issues, the fact that I still gave the book four stars shows how much I truly loved about the book。 The stories are great and there really are many fascinating and useful insights that apply not just to military battle。 I read Sun Tzu's Art of War before this, and as I expected, I find this a million times better。 。。。more

A good, thought provoking book that expands on Greene's other works。It is a long read though, and often quite repetitive。 But if you are interested in applying age old lessons of strategy into your own thinking it's worth ploughing through。 A good, thought provoking book that expands on Greene's other works。It is a long read though, and often quite repetitive。 But if you are interested in applying age old lessons of strategy into your own thinking it's worth ploughing through。 。。。more
