Summary

New York Times Bestselling author Nalini Singh takes us into the dangerous, haunting world of archangels…and a love that is legend。

For thousands of years, the passion between Alexander, Archangel of Persia, and Zanaya, Queen of the Nile, burned furious and bright, seemingly without end。 But to be an archangel is to be bound to power violent and demanding。 Driven by its primal energy, Alexander and Zanaya fought as fiercely as they loved。 Locked in an endless cycle of devotion and heartbreak, it is only Zanaya’s decision to Sleep that ends their love story。

Eons later, it is the Cascade of Death that wakens them both。 The passion between them a flame that yet burns, Alexander and Zanaya stand together in one last battle against the ultimate darkness。 But even a warrior archangel cannot win every war。 Alexander’s scream shatters the world as Zanaya falls, broken and silent…only to rise again in a miracle that may be a devastating curse。 For is it truly the Queen of the Nile who has been resurrected?

Only one thing is clear: this is the last beat of their passionate, angry dance。 The final song for Alexander and his Zani…

I love diving back into the Guild Hunter world and this one was just another great addition to the series! I recommend this to readers of epic fantasy series that covers many characters, space, and time。 I’m excited to read more of Nalini Singh’s work in the future, too。 。。。more

super readI enjoyed learning more about Alexander and Zani。 The story of Alexander’s life and also more about what happened with his brother and his frustrations with how he felt about Raphaël were interesting and well。 This was a great addition to the series and I look forward to more。

I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a fabulous job。 I enjoyed the story and getting the backstory of Alexander and Zanaya。

Fantastic addition to the seriesThis is a great new addition however it is not a book to start the series with。 If you are interested in this book I strongly suggest you start further back as this one has a lot of flashbacks to earlier books。 But it is a series well worth reading。

This is another book in the series where I went in not necessarily uninterested, but certainly not clamoring for this story to be told, and left absolutely loving it。 I has similar feelings the first time Nalini Singh moved away from Raphael and Elena and decided to tell Dmitri's story。 I think it's that unassuming quality, going in with no expectations and then remembering why Nalini Singh is one of the best at what she does。Not often can an author take background characters who are very surfac This is another book in the series where I went in not necessarily uninterested, but certainly not clamoring for this story to be told, and left absolutely loving it。 I has similar feelings the first time Nalini Singh moved away from Raphael and Elena and decided to tell Dmitri's story。 I think it's that unassuming quality, going in with no expectations and then remembering why Nalini Singh is one of the best at what she does。Not often can an author take background characters who are very surface level and give them enough depth to carry their own story。 Not only carrying their own story, however, but actually opening up the created world even more by giving readers a bigger glimpse of the "then" of angelkind。 Alexander and Zanaya are Ancients。 Meaning, they've lived countless lifetimes。 I loved that to tell their story, Nalini Singh didn't just pick up from where things kind of left off after the battle with Lijuan, but went back to the beginning。 Because really how are you going to properly tell a long-lived being's story, or love story, without seeing where it all started? I liked getting some more context to events that have only been alluded to within the previous books and with that, I liked learning more about Alexander and Zanaya。 I'll admit there were times I wasn't sure how Nalini Singh would get their love to work, or if it even would work。 They are both characters who value their independence and will dig their heels in when they feel they're being challenged for their beliefs。 This often leads to toxicity within their relationship as well as decades of separation。 I think that both Alexander and Zanaya get caught up in their immortality。 While angels can die, it's not an easy occurrence。 I feel as though both believe that they have time everlasting。 They will always come together and break apart。 It's not until mortality confronts them on their own turf in various way that they begin to see what their relationship means。 There's no doubt that Alexander and Zanaya constantly fight - with each other and for one another - but it's whether they can get to a place where those differences don't impact their feelings for one another, that's a big draw in the story and I'll admit to going back and forth about how I envisioned their relationship progressing。 Nalini Singh is never one to let me down! All this takes place while the fallout from the war with Lijuan is still being felt throughout the world。 Although it comes in waves, there are far-reaching consequences that will be felt for quite a while。 I feel like this book more than many others in the series really showcases the depth of time and how certain events have have such long-lasting effects on people and places。 With that said, I think that this book is the closest to being a conclusion to the Cascade storyline。 If that is the case, I'm looking forward to seeing where Nalini Singh take the story next! 。。。more

AmazingZani and Alexander's story was really good。 I loved the use of foreshadowing throughout the story。 I really enjoyed how we got to see so much of their past, instead of focusing on their current love story。 What is the future without the past, after all。 A great continuation of the series。 I'm curious to see where we go from here? Who will be featured in the next book? Will one of the other sleepers waken? Can't wait to find out! A book I both enjoyed and feel somewhat conflicted about。 As always, I enjoyed the world that Nalini Singh creates, and it was good to be back in the Guild Hunter world after a while。 However, I think that this is one of the weaker installments in the series。 I still enjoyed it, but I felt like the story here could have almost been a novella。 What felt like half the book repeated older and already covered scenes (such as the battle for New York), and while it was interesting to get some of the h A book I both enjoyed and feel somewhat conflicted about。 As always, I enjoyed the world that Nalini Singh creates, and it was good to be back in the Guild Hunter world after a while。 However, I think that this is one of the weaker installments in the series。 I still enjoyed it, but I felt like the story here could have almost been a novella。 What felt like half the book repeated older and already covered scenes (such as the battle for New York), and while it was interesting to get some of the history of Alexander and Zanaya and to get some new perspectives, I'm not sure how much it added to the overall story of the world。 The remaining action felt small, and the stakes felt much lower, compared to prior books in the series, and to as much as I appreciated the decision that Alexander and Zanaya make regarding their future together (I really liked the sand-glass metaphor, and think it makes a ton of sense), this book for me had the feeling of a series finally winding down, perhaps a little after it should have (I also enjoyed Archangel's Light, but thought it was also one of the weaker entries in the series, for all that I appreciated some of the things it did)。 I can't help but think of what Singh has done with her Psy/Changling series, breaking it up into a second series with new characters。 For me, that brought with it a new influx of life and excitement into the series, with new characters, dangers, and reasons to care。 I would greatly enjoy something similar here with the Guild Hunter series, which has focused less and less on the Guild (or even hunters) with each passing book。 They've been good books, and I've enjoyed them, but I think we've reached the point where the focus has changed enough that it warrants a new series。 I believe I read on Singh's blog that we'll be getting at least one more book with Raphael and Elena as main POV characters, so maybe that would be the right time to make a split, with a fitting send-off。 Still, having followed this series for well over a decade, I'm starting to feel like some of the internal animating fire is dimming。 This is entirely natural for a series, and I don't want this one to overstay it's welcome because I've enjoyed it so much。 I hope to see new life in this world soon, either in this series or the next!3。5 stars, rounded up because it was still a fun read。 。。。more

anything else is kind of extraneous。 We start at the battle of New York and Zanaya's fall at Lijuan's hands, then go back in time to Alexander's childhood, so readers new to the series will probably be pretty lost and either need to accept that they'll have no idea what is going on for awhile and go with it, or put the book down and start with Book 1 in the series。This is a story of growth and learning, of two angels who are often too similar for their own good。 Both Alexander and Zanaya are strong and proud warriors, determined to be the best possible and hold onto their honor, something we have frequently seen lacking in other angels and it's nice to see others recognize this as well。 Unlike many previous characters and their equally strong mates however, Alexander and Zanaya don't seem able to compromise with each other and they clash as fiercely as they love。 Interestingly, when Zanaya meets Elena seems to be the first time she realizes that it is possible for two warriors to be equals as well as lovers without clashing apart becoming inevitable。 As much as we see Alexander and Zanaya grow into the people they will become across the millennia, it seems that they still have things they can learn from even the youngest of humans or angel kind。 This is one of the first books where we get to see the point of view of not one but two Ancients and we get a bit of a different take on how age and time change angels, even Archangels。 It makes you want to go back and reread the series through a different lens, something Nalini Singh is always good at doing at the most unexpected times。 I wasn't always in tune with Alexander and Zanaya in terms of their love relationship。 For me it worked best when one or both of them allowed themselves to be emotionally vulnerable and relaxed with the other, which didn't happen too often for the first half of the book。 I could see why they didn't always work。 I liked them both as individuals, but I didn't feel the all consuming chemistry/passion that was supposed to keep bringing them back together。 The second half/second chance part, both during the battle against Lijuan and then after Zanaya resurrects from her injuries ten years later, felt like a better romance to me。 Softer and more tentative in many ways, two people who know they've made mistakes and aren't sure how to keep from making them again。 For all of that, I felt like some things changed too easily the second time around。 They decided they weren't going to fight and were going to get along and that was what happened。 Of course, it wasn't entirely that easy, and there was a lot of growth that probably finally matured into the relationship, but in someways, it really did feel like it was that easy, which I didn't like。 After everything the end of the book was more of a 'and now things are fine' than 'we've worked really hard and will keep working at it but are now happy'。 Unusual for Singh, who usually torments her characters into the worst possible corners and then manages an out that works without a deus ex machina feel, but makes you feel like the characters (and you as the reader) worked really hard to reach a deserved happy ending。 In the end I was conflicted about this book (as this review probably shows!)。 It's a Nalini Singh book, so I want to love it。 I liked having backstory on Alexander filled in and seeing pieces from other people's eyes。 I loved the surprise scene where we discover Nassir's origins。 I liked Zanaya and (usually) Alexander as individuals。 I loved the emotional scenes where Alexander lets his guard down and shows his vulnerabilities to Zanaya- those were maybe some of the most romantic and well written in the book, in my opinion。 The world building, usually Singh's strongest suit, was an afterthought in this book, which was disappointing。 The up and down relationship wasn't as emotionally convincing or absorbing as Singh's books usually are。 I guess in a long series there will always be at least one book that doesn't resonate for someone, and this book just didn't fully do it for me。 I hope others feel differently。 I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review 。。。more

Archangel's Resurrection features Alexander, the archangel of Persia, and Zanaya, the archangel of the Nile。 These two have a storied past of deep love and deep anger。 Their story? So, I read this and I'm in love。 I adore the new format that Nalini Singh has taken with this, doing flashbacks before getting to the story。 It was necessary when telling this story, and I wouldn't mind more of such flashbacks if we're dealing with more longstanding couples in the future。That said, the story of Alexander and Zanaya was lovely。 I enjoyed the jagged edges as much as the grow-up love story, and it wraps up some plot points that took place in Archangel's War very well。 The Guild Hun So, I read this and I'm in love。 I adore the new format that Nalini Singh has taken with this, doing flashbacks before getting to the story。 It was necessary when telling this story, and I wouldn't mind more of such flashbacks if we're dealing with more longstanding couples in the future。That said, the story of Alexander and Zanaya was lovely。 I enjoyed the jagged edges as much as the grow-up love story, and it wraps up some plot points that took place in Archangel's War very well。 The Guild Hunter series is my favorite, and I loved the further glance into it this gave me - though I do hope we'll have a bit of a flashback next book so that we can have a story set during the vampiric rebellion that's so briefly mentioned in this one! Is it? Okay, okay, so first things first: I am new to this series, but I did my research before reading this advanced reader copy (ARC)—and by that I mean I read summaries for the other books and decided to be open to any plotlines I might have missed。 Basically, I got comfortable with not knowing。I would not call this a standalone novel by any means, but I do give it credit where credit is due: you don’t need much background story to understand and appreciate this story Nalini Singh has brought together。 It was a bit slow-paced for my liking, but I love the characters’ introspection, I feel like I got to know them so well (or perhaps old readers already knew them, but they were all new to me)。Based on what I saw from Nalini’s writing, I would highly recommend this book and this series。 I didn’t believe I would enjoy this book as much as I did, especially this being my first exposure to the series。 I don’t have time to grab this series right now but I am so tempted to tackle it on, page-count be damned。If you click here, you’ll be redirected to Goodreads, so you can add the book to your TBR list。Or you could click here, and be redirected to Amazon, so you can order the book。ARC provided by Berkley Publishing Group through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。I am part of this book’s blog tour, but this in no way affects this review。Publication Date: October 25, 2022“I love you, my Zani。 I will love you till the end of time, whether that is tomorrow or eons from now。” 。。。more

Thank you for Netgalley and Berkley Pub for this earcThis book is number 15 in this series and to be honest, I was bored for most of itI think the big part of it was the fact that the relationship between the main characters happened over the span of a thousand of years and because of it, I really didn’t feel the love。I didn’t think they were right for each other at all。 I get that sometimes you have two strong people in the relationship but every time they would get together, they would just hu Thank you for Netgalley and Berkley Pub for this earcThis book is number 15 in this series and to be honest, I was bored for most of itI think the big part of it was the fact that the relationship between the main characters happened over the span of a thousand of years and because of it, I really didn’t feel the love。I didn’t think they were right for each other at all。 I get that sometimes you have two strong people in the relationship but every time they would get together, they would just hurt each other more and that’s never healthy。 I felt like there was a lot of repetition, every time they had a conversation about how much they loved each other。 Like the first 70 percent of this book was just one scene written over and over again with “time gaps” in between。 We did get to see a little bit of what was happening with the rest of the world but it wasn’t enough to save this story。 I also very much couldn’t believe in the fact that after all the “on again。 Off again” this time around their relationship would work。 Just didn’t sit right with me 。。。more

Thank you to Penguin Random House/Berkly, Kristin Cipolia and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review and participation in this blog tour。 This does not change my opinion in anyway。 Guild Hunter is a long running series that started in 2009 that focuses on the world of the archangels in our world that started out with main character Elena, vampire hunter。 Archangel's Resurrection is already the 15th book set in this world。 And I have not read any other before this book。 I Thank you to Penguin Random House/Berkly, Kristin Cipolia and Netgalley for the review copy in exchange for an honest review and participation in this blog tour。 This does not change my opinion in anyway。 Guild Hunter is a long running series that started in 2009 that focuses on the world of the archangels in our world that started out with main character Elena, vampire hunter。 Archangel's Resurrection is already the 15th book set in this world。 And I have not read any other before this book。 I was reassured that I could read this without having read any of the others。 Archangel's Kiss is a standalone set in the world of the Guild Hunter that follows two side characters, Alexander and Zanaya。 Their romance spans over many eons and is the focus of this story。 While I did not care for their instant attraction, I did absolutely appreciated that Alexander realized that Zanaya was still much more in her teens when they met and that a relationship at that moment was very inappropiate。 He stayed away, and even she realized that at some point。 And when their romance does start it is not without a hickup。 They are not always good for each other, both strong willed, but they always gravitate towards each other。 I liked the realism of their relationship in that。 I also loved seeing Alexanders family and the other (arch)angels around them。 It was interesting to meet some characters and seeing the whole story of Alexander。 I feel like they haven't been a huge part of the story of Elena so far as we saw Elena only briefly in this story。 I was not as invested in the plot of defeating the big bad。 I feel like we only got such a little bit of that whole story as the story focused on the romance。 And I think that this story would work better for those that have read the whole series up until this point。 Regardless, as the plot was such a small bit of the whole story, I did enjoy reading this story for the realistic relationship and the fun side characters。 。。。more

I loved the Mortal Instruments series so I am all for a romance with angels fighting the bad monsters and I thought this book sounded right up my alley。 I was so very wrong。 The author just tells us what is going on without showing us。 Let me tell you the first third of the book so you can skip it。 And by the way it is over a span of thousands of years。 They can't be together yet because Zanaya is too young, now a thousand years has passed and they are together, falling out, back together, falli I loved the Mortal Instruments series so I am all for a romance with angels fighting the bad monsters and I thought this book sounded right up my alley。 I was so very wrong。 The author just tells us what is going on without showing us。 Let me tell you the first third of the book so you can skip it。 And by the way it is over a span of thousands of years。 They can't be together yet because Zanaya is too young, now a thousand years has passed and they are together, falling out, back together, falling out, back together, falling out, back together, falling out, back together, falling out, sleep, back together。 I'm not sure if this is considered a spoiler so I will mark it just in case (view spoiler)[ they both ascend (hide spoiler)] Where is the plot? And they think they grow as people each time but they don't。 This continues on throughout the book too。 On again, off again。 Not much of a romance book。 The book does not flow very well either。 I am reading and then the next sentence just says 200 years pass。 There are multiple parts of the book and it is like reading different stories or something。 The whole thing is just a toxic relationship that I didn't want to read about any more。 Things did start happening about halfway through but it is hard to care about a couple that just shouldn't be together。"。。。to protect those who were weaker lay at the heart of what it meant to have honor。""It seems I'm not built for a gentle and kind love。 I'm built for war。 So is he。 And that was why they were forever doomed。" 。。。more
