Summary

Set in a chocolate-box village, a woman makes a surprising connection with a pen-pal that will change her life - and warm your heart - in the new novel from Sunday Times bestselling author Karen Swan。

It had been a make-or-break holiday for their marriage, but Natasha and Rob’s rekindled romance is short-lived when their daughter’s beloved soft toy disappears on the journey home。

As Natasha comforts the distraught child, she turns to social media for help。 Miraculously, the toy is found, but it has become the lucky mascot of a man named Duffy, who is thousands of miles away。

When Duffy promises to keep Natasha updated with pictures, the pair begin a correspondence that soon becomes more meaningful to both of them。 Sometimes, Natasha feels this stranger understands her more than the man lying next to her。

But as the weeks pass and Duffy heads deeper into the mountains, Natasha begins to notice a change in him。 Then one day, the messages stop。 Too late, Natasha wonders why he had ever needed a lucky mascot at all。

From the picture-perfect Cotswolds to the majesty of the Himalayan foothills, The Christmas Postcards is a novel about how the closest connections can be the furthest apart。

A breathtaking tale of two lovers who must face emotional and physical challenges- they must weather so much , however each does it alone。 Both Nats and Duffy, with the help of Moolah, the stuffed cow, aim to survive life。This is an engrossing and enthralling read that keeps the pages turning。 from the Himalayas to Gloucester。 A treasure to read。Such an enjoyable book。

I enjoyed the pace at the beginning of this book, and had high hopes for it。 We went back and forth between 2018 and 2022 with a couple of nice plot twists you may guess, however the pace slowed down and I found my attention wandering and my eyes skimming the pages。 Duffy and Natasha were likeable and I enjoyed the ending。 Fans of Debbie Macomber and Jenny Colgan will love this book。Despite the name, this book isn’t very Christmasy, so it can be read all year round。 3。5 stars rounded up。 Publication date: October 2022R。R。P: $34。99Thanks Macmillan Australia for my gifted copy。 。。。more

Addictive readingLoved the cover, I thought the title misleading as this isn't a traditional Christmas story。After a holiday in the Maldives, Rob and Natasha stopover in Vienna but oversleep the following morning and in a rush to catch their plane home they accidentally leave behind their daughter’s toy。 Three year old Mabel is inconsolable for days。 In desperation, Nat decides to use social media in an attempt to locate her daughter’s toy cow Moolah, she's shocked when her request goes viral。 D Addictive readingLoved the cover, I thought the title misleading as this isn't a traditional Christmas story。After a holiday in the Maldives, Rob and Natasha stopover in Vienna but oversleep the following morning and in a rush to catch their plane home they accidentally leave behind their daughter’s toy。 Three year old Mabel is inconsolable for days。 In desperation, Nat decides to use social media in an attempt to locate her daughter’s toy cow Moolah, she's shocked when her request goes viral。 Duffy replies that he found Moolah in the airbnb and has taken it with him to Nepal as a good luck mascot for his travels in the Himalayas。 Duffy suggests he sends Mabel photos of Moolah during the long trek in the mountains。With the clues the author provided I was frequently far ahead of the plot, not that this spoilt my enjoyment of an excellent book。Gripping and atmospheric。 The sections when Duffy was at Annapurna were breathtakingly dramatic, can't say more or I'll give away spoilers。 The Christmas Postcards was far better than I expected, this is a book to read more than once。A compelling read and thoroughly recommended Thank you Pan Macmillan and NetGalley for the ARC, this review is my personal, unbiased opinion。 。。。more

Karen Swan, you did it again!I thoroughly enjoyed this story of love and loss and hope through adversity。Natasha and Rob are back from a holiday that was kinda 'make or break' for them。 their little girl Mabel somehow ends up leaving her precious stuffed cow toy, Moolah, behind in an Air BnB, and all hell ensues as she is unable to sleep settle or live without it。An idea by one of Natasha's friends to post a Lost Toy search on social media attracts the attention they need, and soon there is a re Karen Swan, you did it again!I thoroughly enjoyed this story of love and loss and hope through adversity。Natasha and Rob are back from a holiday that was kinda 'make or break' for them。 their little girl Mabel somehow ends up leaving her precious stuffed cow toy, Moolah, behind in an Air BnB, and all hell ensues as she is unable to sleep settle or live without it。An idea by one of Natasha's friends to post a Lost Toy search on social media attracts the attention they need, and soon there is a reunion of sorts。Only Moolah the cow has her own adventures to enjoy before she can return, as the person who found her is on his own life-changing trip。The ensuing story filled with emails and pictures, or postcards as Natasha likes to call them, that wing their way to Natasha and Mabel, keeps you on your edge, especially as there is a past story thread running through the book which weaves its way into the present。There are a couple of far-fetched conclusions to the story, however, they didn't detract from the story,I read it in a day。Many thanks to NetGalley and Pan Macmillan for an ARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

What a brilliant read this was。 I couldn't put it down it was so good and when I did have to put it down, it was playing on my mind。 I loved the plot and even though it was easy to guess the outcomes, this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the unfolding dramas and there were a few twists I missed guessing。 The storyline is well developed and the narrative superb, I became very engrossed in the lives of the characters and was left holding my breath at times, when the subject focus shifted。The c What a brilliant read this was。 I couldn't put it down it was so good and when I did have to put it down, it was playing on my mind。 I loved the plot and even though it was easy to guess the outcomes, this didn't detract from my enjoyment of the unfolding dramas and there were a few twists I missed guessing。 The storyline is well developed and the narrative superb, I became very engrossed in the lives of the characters and was left holding my breath at times, when the subject focus shifted。The characters in this story were so good and I became very invested in their lives and dramas。 Natasha lives a quiet life with her husband and small daughter, Mabel, but never quite feels settled in that life。 I liked her determination and resilience to what life threw at her。 I wanted her to find peace too。 I adored Duffy, he had such clarity of character and sees things others miss。 Of course, there was Moolah too, Mabel's toy cow who also ends up having an adventure of her own, this was such a sweet thread to the story。Set in Frome, Somerset and the Himalayas this book, as with all Karen Swan's stories takes you around the globe。 Her books are always well-researched and detailed so that you feel you are there。 I loved the connections that occurred with the characters, the way small things made changes with big consequences,This is a fantastic story and I highly recommend it。 It is the type of story I will reread and still really enjoy every word。#TheChristmasPostcards #NetGalley 。。。more

A heart warming story full of depth and great characters。 It's an easy read, perfect for the time of year with log fires and hot chocolate and snow twirling outside。 The author leaves clues all through the book so that you have guessed what is going to happen before the characters do, so not exactly predictable but definitely no major surprises as you get to work them out first。 Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the e- advance review copy。 A heart warming story full of depth and great characters。 It's an easy read, perfect for the time of year with log fires and hot chocolate and snow twirling outside。 The author leaves clues all through the book so that you have guessed what is going to happen before the characters do, so not exactly predictable but definitely no major surprises as you get to work them out first。 Thank you to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for the e- advance review copy。 。。。more

I found Karen Swan's last two stand-alone novels, The Secret Path and Midnight in the Snow, somewhat disappointing, but she's back on form with The Christmas Postcards。 This sweet if unlikely read follows two characters whose lives are linked together by a series of coincidences。 Natasha is distraught when her small daughter's favourite soft toy cow goes missing。 It turns out they left it in a holiday apartment in Vienna - but by the time they discover this, the toy has been picked up by mountai I found Karen Swan's last two stand-alone novels, The Secret Path and Midnight in the Snow, somewhat disappointing, but she's back on form with The Christmas Postcards。 This sweet if unlikely read follows two characters whose lives are linked together by a series of coincidences。 Natasha is distraught when her small daughter's favourite soft toy cow goes missing。 It turns out they left it in a holiday apartment in Vienna - but by the time they discover this, the toy has been picked up by mountain climber Duffy, who's on his way to the Himalayas to trek to Annapurna。 Through the power of social media, Duffy finds out that Natasha is searching for the toy, and sends a series of photos - 'the Christmas postcards' - to her daughter so she can see that the cow is having fun on her travels。 But are there further connections between Natasha and Duffy that will draw them even closer together? There's minimal luxurious travel in this one - although I was chuffed to see it's set in Frome, a town I visited often when growing up in Wiltshire and which I've never seen feature in a novel before。 Sadly, the descriptions of Frome are not particularly evocative, and this could be set in any Cotswolds village or town。 However, I enjoyed the sequences set in the Himalayas, which brought the snowy peril that I thought was missing from Midnight in the Snow。 Thinking of Swan's back catalogue, this reminded me particularly of Together By Christmas and The Christmas Lights, so I'd especially recommend it to readers who enjoyed those two。 A cozy holiday read。I received a free proof copy of this novel from the publisher for review。 。。。more

What a beautiful story! Karen Swan never, ever disappoints and this is her best book yet, I simply couldn’t put it down。 Full of “what ifs” and “will they?”, twists and turns, a bit of a shock reveal and hopes for a happy ending…a cliff hanger in so, so many ways。 I really can’t recommend this book enough。Thank you to Netgalley the author and publishers for an ARC in exchange for an honest review

Is Duffy? Because too late, Natasha begins to wonder why Duffy had needed a lucky mascot in the first place。It is not Christmas (or summer) without a wonderful book from Karen Swan, Canadian novelist extraordinaire。。。and I hate Christmas (oh the stress of perfection is real) but I love her books!! The cover drew me in as it reminded me of the cottage in "The Holiday" with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet, and the premise was interesting as well。 I loved this book --- it is not just what hubby calls "fluff" or a "chick book": it had a wonderful story and you will be delighted at this book and is the message(s) of hope。 I hope or wish that I could afford a trip to the Maldives but that is doubtful 。。。 but I could afford to pre-order this book to add it to my groaning shelf of every book that Miss Swan has ever written! (I also thank goodness that the ubiquitous woman with her back to the reader on the cover was small enough to not make me crazy!。。compare Miss Swan's The Hidden Beach and Gill Paul The Secret Wifefor examples of what I am writing about。。。it basically the same cover! I know that readers find the back-books appealing as there are hundreds and thousands using this graphic design trick。。。I need some variety。。。。don't believe me? I have hundreds of these covers saved on my book review page's "Get Back to Reading"!)Highly recommended, this book will fly off the shelves and your patrons will thank you for recommending it to them (along with her other books), especially if they have never read her books before。 。。。more
