Although I enjoyed A Tale of Sorcery， it is definitely the weakest installment of the series。 In spite of the fact that it had far too many storylines， it still felt slow at times。 Everything surrounding Xanthous， from his sexuality to heritage， felt forced and contrived considering it’s never referenced or even hinted at in the Land of Stories。 That being said， this was still a hilarious， hopeful and fun read that I blew through in a matter of days。

I was in the mood for a middle grade book。 They tend to be fun。 Colfer books are fun and I hadn't read this one yet。。。well I have as of now but I hadn't before picking it up。 There maybe a few plot holes in this series if you think about it to hard。 Or the fairy godmother may have stretched the truth when taking to her grandchildren in the series this series is a prequel to。 It's been a while since I read the land of stories so who knows how much I even remember。 I do remember that I was convinc I was in the mood for a middle grade book。 They tend to be fun。 Colfer books are fun and I hadn't read this one yet。。。well I have as of now but I hadn't before picking it up。 There maybe a few plot holes in this series if you think about it to hard。 Or the fairy godmother may have stretched the truth when taking to her grandchildren in the series this series is a prequel to。 It's been a while since I read the land of stories so who knows how much I even remember。 I do remember that I was convinced grandma was a liar because some of what she said didn't add up in the original series。 Those could have just been inconsistencies but I choose to believe she lied。 But she can't lie someone back to life。 There is a spellbook for that。。。maybe。 i dont know。 Can you tell I babble when I'm tired？ But this book was fun。 Even though I mostly babbled on about nothing and the land of stories。 MILD SPOILER！！ Is this how i met your grandfather？ I don't know if the guy in the end is grandpa。 But as much how i met your mother had to do with meeting the mother this series has to do with meeting the grandfather。 Nothing。 Now I have to get back to my book club book that I'm half done but still avoiding 。。。more

SO GOOD！！！ This whole series is so so amazing！ they are filled with great social commentary， unique characters， and intriguing plots。 I loved learning more about this magical world Colfer has created and i hope i will get to read even more！ I was a little worried since i read the land of stories when i was little that i had romanticized it， i was worried this series wouldn’t live up to my memories of the land of stories， but my worries were proven wrong。 This series is just as magical for me now SO GOOD！！！ This whole series is so so amazing！ they are filled with great social commentary， unique characters， and intriguing plots。 I loved learning more about this magical world Colfer has created and i hope i will get to read even more！ I was a little worried since i read the land of stories when i was little that i had romanticized it， i was worried this series wouldn’t live up to my memories of the land of stories， but my worries were proven wrong。 This series is just as magical for me now as the land of stories was years ago！ I will have to re read that series soon fs！！ 。。。more

I finished this page-turner way too quickly， so I hope there will be more in this series！ While addressing the previous cliffhangers， it also delves into Xanthous' story （which is why I hope there are more in the series， so we can learn about the other members of the Fairy Council and witches）。 There are such good， unexpected twists， and characters/creatures are given more depth and nuance than at first glance/meeting。 I'm not sure how to go on without giving everything away。 Basically the world I finished this page-turner way too quickly， so I hope there will be more in this series！ While addressing the previous cliffhangers， it also delves into Xanthous' story （which is why I hope there are more in the series， so we can learn about the other members of the Fairy Council and witches）。 There are such good， unexpected twists， and characters/creatures are given more depth and nuance than at first glance/meeting。 I'm not sure how to go on without giving everything away。 Basically the world-building in this particular （prequel） series as well as nearly subtle connections to The Land of Stories are seamless and so well-done。 The connections to current-day issues and concerns are also spectacular。 Highly recommend （all of Colfer's books haha）。 。。。more
