Summary

Iris Cooper has been singing ever since she can remember, hitting the high notes like no one else。 When she is twelve, her father convinces the owner of a bar in Lake City, Texas, to let her perform, and she stuns the audience。 In the ensuing years, never staying anywhere for long, father and daughter move from one dusty town to the next, her passion for music growing every time she takes the mike in another roadhouse。

But it is not an easy life for Iris with her father in charge and using her income to pay for gambling, women, and booze。 When she starts to tour at age eighteen, she takes on a real manager。 Yet he exploits her too, and the singers and musicians she tours with are really the only family she has。 It is they who give Iris the courage to finally fly free, leave the tour, and follow her dreams。

After years of enduring the hardships of the road, exploitation, and abuse to do what she loves, Iris’s big chance comes as her talent soars。 But at the top at last, Iris still has to fight every step of the way。 In The High Notes, Danielle Steel delivers an inspiring story about finding the strength to stand up for yourself and your dreams, no matter what it takes。

Iris has an incredible voice。 Her Father uses her when he has her singing in bars from the age of 12。 He then signs her up for an abusive manager and keeps her money, spending it on booze。 This is a typical Steele。 Her books are predictable but at the same time provide an enjoyable escape from reality。 Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy。

The High Notes by Danielle Steel is another one of her wonderful standalone novels。 We meet Iris Cooper, who at 12 years old, lived with her drifter father, as they moved around a lot。 Iris loved to sing, and had an amazing voice for someone her age。 Her father, who also drank, took her to a bar to sing, and over the next number of years, he made money on her singing, until she reached 18 years old, when she decided to go on her own, as her father always spends her money for himself。Iris tours The High Notes by Danielle Steel is another one of her wonderful standalone novels。 We meet Iris Cooper, who at 12 years old, lived with her drifter father, as they moved around a lot。 Iris loved to sing, and had an amazing voice for someone her age。 Her father, who also drank, took her to a bar to sing, and over the next number of years, he made money on her singing, until she reached 18 years old, when she decided to go on her own, as her father always spends her money for himself。Iris tours for over nine years, as her manager also exploits her, but she makes friends with other musicians on her tours。 Her friends give her the courage to pack up and leave the tour and follow her dreams。 She goes into hiding in a small town, and meets Boy, a singer on a band, who becomes her friend (no romance), and together they make great music。 Iris convinces Boy to go with her to New York, to meet with a recommended manager。 She auditions with Clay Maddox, who is a very successful and likeable manager。 He loves Iris voice, and when she mentions to Clay about Boy, who she feels also has a very nice voice。 Clay hires both Iris and Boy, with Iris career soaring, with a tour and album。 Boy ends up being the opening act, and he too with eventually become famous。 Iris’s ex manager tries to force her to return, but Clay will stop him, proving the ex-manager was a bad man。Over a period of time, Iris and Clay (there is an age gap), will slowly begin to fall in love, and her life becomes filled with happiness。 Iris also wants to bring some old friends who stood by her into life。 The High Notes is a wonderful sweet story, filled with hope, tragedy, friendship, love, bad people, with a fantastic heroine。 I loved The High Notes, which was so very well written by Danielle Steel。 This is a story not to be missed。BarbThe Reading Cafe 。。。more

It was a bit of a frazzling day so being able to immerse myself in the world of Danielle Steel was just what I needed。Iris came from nothing but she has a voice that could bring down the house。 Exploited by her wayward father and bad managers, she did the tour circuit for years until she escaped。 And was on her way。Iris gets her happy ending and my day turned out well so the parallel was good。Thanks to Random House and NetGalley for the early read。

Danielle Steel never disappoints and this book was so enjoyable because of her character development。 Iris is just so lovable and reading about her being taken advantage of by her father and music agents was hard to read but made you realize what a strong person she is。 Reading about her hard work paying off was so gratifying。 Then reading about how things can change the course of your life/career and are completely out of your control。 The saying that you can only control your reaction to the t Danielle Steel never disappoints and this book was so enjoyable because of her character development。 Iris is just so lovable and reading about her being taken advantage of by her father and music agents was hard to read but made you realize what a strong person she is。 Reading about her hard work paying off was so gratifying。 Then reading about how things can change the course of your life/career and are completely out of your control。 The saying that you can only control your reaction to the things that happen to you, ia so true。 Beautiful story! The High Notes by Danielle Steel is about Iris Cooper who was gifted with a magical voice。 Her father decided to cash in on his daughter’s talent。 Iris was twelve when her father got her a job in a local bar。 He kept them moving all through Iris’s childhood with her spending her evenings and weekends singing for their supper。 When Iris was seventeen, father dearest signed her up with a slimy promotor to tour for five years。 It was a grueling five years。 Unable to find work after the tours, Iris The High Notes by Danielle Steel is about Iris Cooper who was gifted with a magical voice。 Her father decided to cash in on his daughter’s talent。 Iris was twelve when her father got her a job in a local bar。 He kept them moving all through Iris’s childhood with her spending her evenings and weekends singing for their supper。 When Iris was seventeen, father dearest signed her up with a slimy promotor to tour for five years。 It was a grueling five years。 Unable to find work after the tours, Iris signed up with a different promoter for another five years。 This man liked to surprise his singers at concerts and degrade them。 When the slime ball slapped a singer, Iris had enough。 Iris changed the color of her and disappeared。 She was fortunate to encounter a good band in Jackson’s Hole, Wyoming。 Boy, a member of the band, and Iris became friends。 When the band breaks up, Iris and Boy head to New York。 Iris had been given the phone number of an agent who could make her a star。 Clay signs Iris and Boy。 Their careers are soon on the rise。 A tragic event has Iris making a few changes to her life。 The High Notes is what I call a rags-to-riches story。 I like Danielle Steel’s writing style。 It is casual and friendly。 The story moved along at a steady pace。 I liked Iris Cooper。 She had a terrible childhood, but it never affected her outlook。 Iris is a kind person with a magnificent voice。 Iris had a rough road to hoe, and she deserved something good to happen to her。 There was plenty going on this book。 I found myself quickly drawn into the story。 It is a book that can be finished in a couple of hours。 It is the perfect book to read before a cozy fire or while lounging on the beach。 I just loved the description of Rosebud。 She is a cutie。 There is some foul language as well as some graphic violence。 Key backstory details are repeated frequently。 The High Notes has hope, disappointment, perseverance, friendship, and love。 The High Notes is a touching tale with barroom ballads, truck tunes, taxing tours, punishing promoters, a big break, an impressive impresario, a moving melody, and a special surprise。 。。。more

The High Notes by Danielle Steel is a stand-alone novel about one woman’s rise to fame in the country/pop music industry。 Story Recap: Iris Cooper was born to sing, it’s the only thing she knows and the only thing she wants to do in life。 With only a father to raise her, she was singing in bars before she was 12。 Father and daughter lived a nomadic life, traveling from town to town in Texas, Iris singing, and her father spending everything on drinking。 When Iris gets older, she eventually goes o The High Notes by Danielle Steel is a stand-alone novel about one woman’s rise to fame in the country/pop music industry。 Story Recap: Iris Cooper was born to sing, it’s the only thing she knows and the only thing she wants to do in life。 With only a father to raise her, she was singing in bars before she was 12。 Father and daughter lived a nomadic life, traveling from town to town in Texas, Iris singing, and her father spending everything on drinking。 When Iris gets older, she eventually goes on tour, but her father still spends all her earnings, and when she eventually finds a new manager, things are not much better for her。 This is a story of Iris and her climb to fame。 But, will she ever achieve her goals? My Thoughts: The High Notes is a quick read with a captivating story and a lot of emotion。 It’s not a new story, or anything different, but it’s very well told, and the characters, especially, Iris are very realistic and compelling。 The book does highlight some of the horrors of talent management and the rougher side of fame。 Lily really is the star of this book。 I just couldn’t help myself from rooting for her the entire way。 She’s such a sweet woman, who had a horrible upbringing。 She loves music and loves to sing, and that’s all she wants in life。 Iris eventually learns to stick up for herself and she finds her way。 Her journey from a young girl, dependent on her terrible father, to a self-assured pop star, is a lot of fun。Recommendation: I highly recommend The High Notes to anyone who enjoys stories of rising to fame。 I received a complimentary copy of this book。 The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

Danielle Steel is the most consistent story teller of our time。 I jumped at the chance to read The High Notes and it did not disappoint。 The story centers around Iris, growing up in a dysfunctional family with a father that extorted her talent for his own financial gain。 After parting ways with her father, she signed with abusive mangers that only held her back and took advantage of her。 Finally, she stopped the cycle of abuse。 Watching Iris grow as a person and as a performer was uplifting。 As Danielle Steel is the most consistent story teller of our time。 I jumped at the chance to read The High Notes and it did not disappoint。 The story centers around Iris, growing up in a dysfunctional family with a father that extorted her talent for his own financial gain。 After parting ways with her father, she signed with abusive mangers that only held her back and took advantage of her。 Finally, she stopped the cycle of abuse。 Watching Iris grow as a person and as a performer was uplifting。 As I read, I heard her lovely voice in my head。 After tragedy strikes, Iris uses her talent, connections and fame to support a young boy and create the family she never had。 A read-in-one-sitting story。 4 stars。 。。。more

Iris gets a meeting with the manager and decides to take this new friend with her。 When they leave, they both have a contact in hand and are on their way to making it big。 Iris never thought she would get this break, but now she is being taken care of like never before。 Her new manager is amazing and takes care of her like his own。 I don't want to give any of the other parts away because reading them for yourself makes it so worth it。 I loves this story and the characters。 A great feel good story of perseverance。 I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all opinions are my own。 Thanks to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for an advanced copy of this book。 。。。more
