Summary

This is the story of a woman who dared to dig, explore, and discover。 This is the story of Dinosaur Lady。

Mary Anning loved scouring the beach near her home in England for shells and fossils。 She fearlessly climbed over crumbling cliffs and rocky peaks, searching for new specimens。 One day, something caught Mary's eye。

Bones。 Dinosaur Bones。

Mary's discoveries rocked the world of science and helped create a brand-new field of study: paleontology。 But many people believed women couldn't be scientists, so Mary wasn't given the credit she deserved。 Nevertheless, Mary kept looking and learning more, making discoveries that reshaped scientific beliefs about the natural world。

Dinosaur Lady is a beautiful and brilliant picture book that will enlighten children about the discovery of the dinosaurs and the importance of female scientists。 It also includes a timeline of Mary Anning's life and lots of fantastic fossil facts!

This picture-based biography about Mary Anning is the inspiring book all young girls need。 Living in an era where women’s only place is in the home with children, we are presented to Mary Anning, a young woman with a tenacious desire for learning and discovery that makes you feel proud of how far we have progressed。 Despite being doubted by the male dominated field of science, she kept to her passions and became one of the founding figures of paleontology。 This inspiring story is more than likel This picture-based biography about Mary Anning is the inspiring book all young girls need。 Living in an era where women’s only place is in the home with children, we are presented to Mary Anning, a young woman with a tenacious desire for learning and discovery that makes you feel proud of how far we have progressed。 Despite being doubted by the male dominated field of science, she kept to her passions and became one of the founding figures of paleontology。 This inspiring story is more than likely to inspire all young girls and boys alike as they see that being courageous and following your passions can pay off more than they can imagine。 。。。more

Seems this author doesn't understand Evolution。 I recommend Professor Richard Dawkin's Christmas Lectures at the Royal Institute: Begining Episode: https://www。youtube。com/watch?v=dw4w1。。。 。。。more

I love the "She sells seashells" tongue-twister and had no idea it was written about her。 I am so glad that these amazing and smart women such as Mary are finally getting books written about them so that today's children can learn the facts about what really happened a long time ago when women did not have rights or get credit for any of their own work。 Lovely pictures。 Amazing information。 I love the "She sells seashells" tongue-twister and had no idea it was written about her。 I am so glad that these amazing and smart women such as Mary are finally getting books written about them so that today's children can learn the facts about what really happened a long time ago when women did not have rights or get credit for any of their own work。 Lovely pictures。 Amazing information。 。。。more

So this was fascinating。 As a grown adult reading this, I couldn’t help but wonder why Ammonite bothered fictionalizing Mary Anning’s story at all when her actual life was so interesting。

I never heard of Mary Anning growing up and what a shame! I would've loved to know about her and her story and my (male) classmates who loved our science units on dinosaurs needed to know about her too。 I never heard of Mary Anning growing up and what a shame! I first learned about Mary Anning through Tracy Chevalier's novel Remarkable Creatures。 This picture book hits all the highlights。 We shared it with our 6 and 8 year old granddaughters who love fossils。 "Even though Mary could identify a species from one single bone and rebuild entire skeletons like a jigsaw puzzle, she couldn't join the Geological Society of London。 Women weren't allowed。 She couldn't attend lectures or teach university classes。 Or even take classes!" Educational and inspiring are two words that I would use to describe this beautiful picture book。 The entire way through the story we see the life of Mary Anning and the obstacles that she had to face in her field。 This story is inspiring to see that she went against the odds and made her future for herself。 It is inspiring for younger students to see that you can do anything even if people don't care。 Mary Anning is a fascinating individual and the story shows us all the ways that she is worth Educational and inspiring are two words that I would use to describe this beautiful picture book。 The entire way through the story we see the life of Mary Anning and the obstacles that she had to face in her field。 This story is inspiring to see that she went against the odds and made her future for herself。 It is inspiring for younger students to see that you can do anything even if people don't care。 Mary Anning is a fascinating individual and the story shows us all the ways that she is worth the praise。 。。。more

Loved this picture book highlighting one of my favorite historical figures - I’m glad to see Mary Anning is starting to get the representation she deserves! This one works well because the art is beautiful, but doesn’t distract from the text。 I hope the author/illustrator pair end up doing more children’s books。

Very good intro to Mary Anning, as well as an introduction to paleontology as a whole, as well as a discussion starter for things like sexism and mysogyny in education。

The biography of the first paleontologist Mary Anning, a trailblazer who independently opened a new scientific field。 Digging, chiseling, and sketching her beloved fossils, she made discoveries that shook the world。 Doors in academia were shut to women in her times, yet she never stopped fighting her way into scientific inquiry and exploration。

Although Mary Anning did not discover any dinosaurs while she was alive (the title is misleading since the prehistoric animals she discovered are NOT dinosaurs), this book still showcases her discoveries。 It is a cute and inspiring story with some adorable illustrations!

I liked this so much that I read it twice。 I knew a bit about Mary Anning, but this book educated me about more details of her life。 She was an amazing woman who just got on with searching for bones and making a life for herself, whether or not men recognized her achievements。 The back matter includes a timeline of her life, facts about bones and fossils, and an author's note。 Marta Álvarez Miguéns' illustrations are delightfully appealing。 I liked this so much that I read it twice。 I knew a bit about Mary Anning, but this book educated me about more details of her life。 She was an amazing woman who just got on with searching for bones and making a life for herself, whether or not men recognized her achievements。 The back matter includes a timeline of her life, facts about bones and fossils, and an author's note。 Marta Álvarez Miguéns' illustrations are delightfully appealing。 。。。more

I promise there aren't a lot of dinosaur names to stumble over however。 (I know I always dreaded reading the dino names aloud at story time and having the little ones need to correct me—as awesome as it was that some of them could correct me!)And I'm not just considering the daughters I want to grow up to be brilliant scientists, full of wonder about the natural world。 This is for the sons too, who will see that women can love dinosaurs just as much as they can, and in fact, that women have been studying dinosaurs for longer than men have! 。。。more
