Summary

For fans of Twisted Tales and Villains is a brand new YA series that retells the classic Disney stories you thought you knew from the Disney Princes' perspectives。

Before Prince Eric’s mother, the Queen of Vellona, went missing two years ago, she reminded him about the details of the deadly curse that has plagued his entire life。 The curse? If he were to kiss someone other than his true love, he would die。 With a neighboring kingdom looking for any excuse to invade their shores, and rumors of ghost pirates lurking the seas, Eric is desperate for any information that may help him break his enchantment and bring stability to Vellona。 The answers he has been searching for come to him in the form of a letter left from his mother that reveals Eric must find his true love, the one with a voice pure of heart,or kill the sea witch responsible for cursing him in the first place。

Now Eric is on a quest to find the Isle of Serein, the witch's legendary home。 But after he is rescued by a mysterious young woman with a mesmerizing singing voice, Eric’s heart becomes torn。 Does he enter a battle he is almost certain he cannot win or chase a love that might not even exist? And when a shipwrecked young woman with flaming red hair and a smile that could calm the seven seas enters his life, Eric may discover that true love isn’t something that can be decided by magic。

This has me hyped for a series of books from the princes' POV。This book followed the plot of the movie, and it was so fun to see things from Eric's perspective, like the dinner scene and the 'Kiss the Girl' scene。 The inclusion of a deeper backstory for Eric and additional scenes really fleshed out his character and developed the relationship with Ariel from insta-love to a gradual believable love。 Ursula was even made to be MORE evil and honestly? I'm loving it。 There's also casual additions of diversity and I didn't even realize that one character was a lesbian and another used they/them pronouns until almost the end! It was such a casual addition and honestly? We need more like it。 Ariel's part in the final battle is still a bit passive, but they're following the original movie so I guess I'll let it slide a bit。 We do get to see how intelligent and caring she is in this book, shedding some of that impulsive teen persona she has in the movie。 They also addressed why she couldn't write him notes! It's a quick read but adds so much to the Little Mermaid story。 I'm so happy they started with my favorite movie and I am excited for future installments。Thank you netgalley for access for the arc! 。。。more

What a great addition to the Little Mermaid。

Prince of Song & Sea (Princes, #1)by Linsey Miller A beautiful extension of the original story。 Not only from Eric's point of view, but so detailed and riddled with information and back ground。 Making the original story more dynamic, and beautiful。 I am glad to see that they honored the original story not changing things from the Hans Christian Andersen tale of a lonely mermaid。 The author had added to the story, with modern story telling but also details that made motivations clearer and hints Prince of Song & Sea (Princes, #1)by Linsey Miller A beautiful extension of the original story。 Not only from Eric's point of view, but so detailed and riddled with information and back ground。 Making the original story more dynamic, and beautiful。 I am glad to see that they honored the original story not changing things from the Hans Christian Andersen tale of a lonely mermaid。 The author had added to the story, with modern story telling but also details that made motivations clearer and hints at the magic that over laid the story。 Music and love gives us freedom from darkness, madness, and magic。 。。。more

Finally, we get a prince retelling。 As a big fan of the little mermaid, I loved this。 It didn't need the whole ghost thing but it was something different and it worked。 The battle with Ursula was everything I didn't know I needed。 This book had pirates, witches, sea gods and love。 What an adventure。 Can't wait for more in this series。 Finally, we get a prince retelling。 As a big fan of the little mermaid, I loved this。 It didn't need the whole ghost thing but it was something different and it worked。 The battle with Ursula was everything I didn't know I needed。 This book had pirates, witches, sea gods and love。 What an adventure。 Can't wait for more in this series。 。。。more

I loved this。 A fan of all things Disney but have always preferred the Villains and Princes to the Princesses 🤷🏻‍♀️This is a retelling from the Prince Eric’s POV and his own struggles and curses he faced。 Definitely read it if you like Disney and want to see more depth in the Prince characters。Thank you NetGalley for a chance to read and review this book!

This book was definitely hard to give a rating too。 On one hand I feel like this book hard a lack in world building and character descriptions。 If I had never seen the movie before I would have been very lost in picturing Prince Eric, his companions and the kingdom they live in。 I feel like to have a solid book you have to add a good bit of world building, no matter how well known a movie is。 There were also only mentions of some characters and I would have liked them to be represented more beca This book was definitely hard to give a rating too。 On one hand I feel like this book hard a lack in world building and character descriptions。 If I had never seen the movie before I would have been very lost in picturing Prince Eric, his companions and the kingdom they live in。 I feel like to have a solid book you have to add a good bit of world building, no matter how well known a movie is。 There were also only mentions of some characters and I would have liked them to be represented more because they were such a big part in helping Ariel in her journey。 However, I did really enjoy how well the book lined up with the movie at times。 I did thoroughly enjoy the mentions of Sebastian running across the table into Ariel's plate or Flounder helping with Vanessa。 I also loved how during the Kiss Me Girl scene Eric only hears the animals moving around him and not the song, because he is human after all。 There is a different plot to the movie, which I thought was not great but it was still good。 We did get some more in Ursula's powers and a little bit of backstory。 I thought that Ariel was really brave at points in this book, which lined up with the rest of her personality。 She did go to a different world by herself after all。 I did wish that Prince Eric was a little more heroic and did not just let things batter him around。 Overall, I just thought this book could have been better。 It was fine, I did enjoy better parts of it but I wish I enjoyed more of it。 。。。more

I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes。 I was really impressed with this retelling! I know a lot of people take issue with the Twisted Tales Disney series because it follows the movie too closely, so I was worried that this new Disney Prince series would be similar。 Fortunately, this book does add a lot more to the movie。 Prince Eric gets an entire backstory involving a curse which gives him so much more depth than he has in the movie。 There are also I received a copy of this book for free from the publisher for promotional purposes。 I was really impressed with this retelling! Jessica (a GREAT read)

I received this book from the publisher via Rockstar Book Tours in exchange for an honest and voluntary review。 I was in no way compensated for this review。Growing up on Disney movies, we've all lived the stories through the princesses' eyes, but what about the princes? This new Disney series is about to dive into that very side of the story and to begin the series we have Linsey Miller's Prince of Song & Sea。 This is the story of Prince Eric and what his life was like leading up to his "meeting I received this book from the publisher via Rockstar Book Tours in exchange for an honest and voluntary review。 I was in no way compensated for this review。Growing up on Disney movies, we've all lived the stories through the princesses' eyes, but what about the princes? This new Disney series is about to dive into that very side of the story and to begin the series we have Linsey Miller's Prince of Song & Sea。 This is the story of Prince Eric and what his life was like leading up to his "meeting" Ariel。 It's quite the story and I found it to be very enjoyable!Ever since he was young, Eric knew that he was cursed。 His mother, the queen, was cursed before him having helped a dying child that was meant for a sea goddess' sacrifice, and now it has passed onto Eric that if he were to kiss anyone who was not his one true love, he would die。 So it makes trying to find love a little harder than usual。Eric was out trying to find a way to end his curse when his ship is overtaken by pirates, but instead of a takeover, he makes a deal with them He'll help them solve the mystery of the Blood Tide, a ghost like entity that is making pirates/sailors alike drown。 But before Eric can get too far into his search, his ship is sunk in a storm and the last thing he remembers his getting his dog, Max, to safety before the water pulled him under。 Then he awakens to the most beautiful voice, but before he can fully wake up, she is gone。And thus the story we all know well and true begins! I honestly loved reading this book! It was so fun to be in Eric's point of view for the majority of the story we know from The Little Mermaid movie。 I mean, it gives new knowledge to why he never tried to kiss Ariel right away like most princes were set on doing back in those days! But it was just kind of cute seeing everything play out the same way, and every once in awhile Eric would wonder if he just saw a blue and yellow fish dart by!Things get back on their different course when Eric sets out to find a mysterious island where the so-called ghosts seem to be drawn to。 Unbeknownst to him, Ariel sneaked onboard the ship--and if you recall, she has no voice during this time--to help him with his quest, whatever it might be。 I really enjoyed watching Ariel and Eric grow closer in these moments that we didn't see in the movie。 It was endearing to see Eric help Ariel communicate without her voice and it just shows what a true prince he is!It's not long before Eric realizes a witch is behind his family's curse。。。a very familiar witch。 And then the story jumps back on course to the movie plot line and we see things continue to play out the way they did。 It was also very interesting to get Eric's insight when he was with Vanessa。 I mean we thought he was just hypnotized but he had some thoughts going through his head and Ursula was up to more than just trying to prevent Ariel from getting her true love's kiss! This is definitely another kind of series that is meant for the true Disney fan at heart! This book had it all! It gives new insight to a beloved movie, it has all the classic moments there to be seen, and there's some newness added to the mix as well。 I'm rather excited to see what other Princes will be getting their own books! This series is bound to take off for who doesn't love an added Disney tale to the mix。I love how this story gave more depth to Eric's character! If the rest of the series plans to do this, then all Disney fans are going to want to read this! I love seeing the princes as more complex as so many of the early ones were just there to rescue the princess and the end! This is going to be a fun series and I want to be here for all of it! This is a series Disney fans will want to grab at as soon as possible! It's new, it's familiar, it's magical。。。this is a read not to be missed!Overall Rating 5/5 stars 。。。more

Prince of Song & Sea by Linsey Miller is a fun adventure from Prince Eric’s perspective。 This story lines up with Disney's “The Little Mermaid”, but from Eric’s point of view。 This retelling is a fun spin on a classic story。 Eric was cursed at birth by a witch, and can't kiss anyone but his true love, or else he dies。 Eric lost his mother when he was young, and recently learned that she kept secrets and dedicated her life to finding the person who cursed Eric。 He takes on the hunt himself。 While Prince of Song & Sea by Linsey Miller is a fun adventure from Prince Eric’s perspective。 This story lines up with Disney's “The Little Mermaid”, but from Eric’s point of view。 This retelling is a fun spin on a classic story。 Eric was cursed at birth by a witch, and can't kiss anyone but his true love, or else he dies。 Eric lost his mother when he was young, and recently learned that she kept secrets and dedicated her life to finding the person who cursed Eric。 He takes on the hunt himself。 While trying to find answers he falls overboard and is saved by a mysterious singing lady。 Another lady washes up on the beach shortly after。 Despite all of that he is determined to find the witch that cursed him。 Even though the story of The Little Mermaid is familiar, this story is fresh and new。 I loved the writing of the characters in this story。 Even though you know Eric, you get to know him a little more。 There are new characters introduced that are the perfect addition to the story。 I loved seeing a different side of Eric and seeing his side of a beloved story。 This story kept the same feeling as the original story while adding twists to it。 It was also fun to learn more about Ursula and how she played into Eric’s story。 The world-building was done well and the story flew by。 The chapter titles were a fun addition to the story, they were song titles from the movie and the Broadway play。 There were a few parts in the story that felt rushed or something is done too quickly。 I would have liked more descriptions and actions in those parts。 I would give this book 4 stars, and is perfect for middle-grade or younger YA readers。 It is a fun retelling and great for any Disney fans!Thank you NetGalley and Disney for allowing me to copy this arc。 。。。more

AHHH, I AM SO TORN。 On the one hand, Prince of Song and Sea was a thoroughly refreshing take on a Disney movie retelling — especially after the disaster that almost all of the “Twisted Tales” retellings have been — but also…ghosts? I loved having the story told from Eric's point of view and to have friends help him along the way。 It gave the well known story a new life。 The additions of pirates, mysterious ghosts, and intrigue of different kingdoms kept it feeling fresh and new。 Eric is also a great character to read。 His love for his mother and the lengths that he would go to find her was what warmed me to him。 I also enjoyed reading his concern over how to find his "true love" and be himself at the same time。This was a great retelling that stuck pretty close to the original story, but also had a way of being something new at the same time。 I would definitely recommend this to people who enjoy The Little Mermaid, fairy tale retellings, and pirate adventures。 。。。more

Prince of Song and Sea follows Prince Eric's point of view of the story we all know and love。 This point of view adds so much more complexity, depth and emotion to the story。 The disapperance of his mother makes Eric next in line for the throne and his coronation is fast approaching。 To bring peace to the kingdom his advisors suggest he marries, but there is one major problem。 A CURSE! The curse helps lovers of the Little Mermaid understand more of the magic drawing Eric and Ariel together, while also trying to keep them apart。 I would recommend re-watching the movie either before or soon after reading that way you can pin the two point of views together! After re-watching after reading, I was able to notice some parallels between the two characters in their thought processes, their wants and interests and it was just so interesting to have that added layer!I will likely follow along with the rest of this series! Dan Bittner did an amazing job with his narrator of the story。 。。。more

The Little Mermaid, Retelling, Prince Eric, Curse, Pirates, YA,NA。 I loved this book so much, I think I smiled the entire time I listened to it。 It’s so much more than just a simple retelling of Disney’s classic “The Little Mermaid” from Prince Eric’s POV。 Miller did a wonderful job of expanding the story in a way that didn’t seem forced or over the top。 The world-building was complex and interesting, the supporting characters were fantastic, the plot was fun and intriguing, and there were pirat The Little Mermaid, Retelling, Prince Eric, Curse, Pirates, YA,NA。 I loved this book so much, I think I smiled the entire time I listened to it。 It’s so much more than just a simple retelling of Disney’s classic “The Little Mermaid” from Prince Eric’s POV。 Miller did a wonderful job of expanding the story in a way that didn’t seem forced or over the top。 The world-building was complex and interesting, the supporting characters were fantastic, the plot was fun and intriguing, and there were pirates! Also, this new world is sans sexism, racism and homophobia which is just fantastic。 Another bonus is how Miller fixed up a bit of the more questionable aspects of the movie, like abandoning your entire world and way of life for a guy you saw once and didn’t speak a word to。 I was really impressed with Miller’s ability to skillfully weave in the spirit and nostalgic aspects of the movie while telling a new story of a Prince trying to save his kingdom while coming to terms with his fate。 This was a fun and cozy ride that brought back so many childhood memories。 I just had a blast from start to finish。 I highly recommend it and I’m very excited for the next prince。 Shout out to Dan Bittner, you really captured Prince Eric and did a wonderful job。Special thank you to #NetGalley, #LinseyMiller and #DisneyAudiobooks for sharing this digital copy, these are my honest thoughts on #PrinceOfSongAndSea Also, a thank you to narrator #DanBittner 。。。more

The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and I was excited to see the story from Eric's perspective。 I'm so happy to say that I absolutely adored Linsey's take on the story。 She added so much to the story and to Eric's backstory but, for the most part, did not change the story beats from the original。 I enjoyed seeing the events from the movie, especially the scenes when Ariel was doing something that Eric didn't notice, like at their first dinner together with Ariel getting Sebastian o The Little Mermaid is my favorite Disney movie, and I was excited to see the story from Eric's perspective。 I'm so happy to say that I absolutely adored Linsey's take on the story。 She added so much to the story and to Eric's backstory but, for the most part, did not change the story beats from the original。 I enjoyed seeing the events from the movie, especially the scenes when Ariel was doing something that Eric didn't notice, like at their first dinner together with Ariel getting Sebastian out of Grimsby's food。 One of the aspects I loved the most was the addition of Eric's curse and how that plays into his story as a whole。 I love what Linsey did with his curse and how that went into his character。 Also, I love the dynamic between him, Grimsby, Carlotta, and his friends introduced in the book。My other favorite part of this book is the relationship between Ariel and Eric。 I'm glad we got to have more of them spending time together and their relationship。 It was wonderful seeing even more of Ariel's character, who will always be a favorite of mine。 I could not help but sing the music that went along with the scenes。I highly recommend this book to fans of the original story。 It was such a great book! I already preordered my own copy of the book。 *Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my ARC of the book。 All opinions are my own。* 。。。more
